I am pleased with the face cord of firewood supplied by Green Thumb Farms. It's a good mix of oak, maple, birch, cherry, and a little bit of poplar. The poplar might be 15-20% of the load, which is otherwise good, heavy hard woods. I tested the load for moisture when it arrived, and 10-20% was the range. They had to drive through some rain on the way, so I am reported just the dry-looking ends I tested. The size of the load was in excess of a face cord, so they over-delivered. Their is a nice range of wood sizes, from medium cut pieces for when the fire is already started to plenty of smaller sized wood that we can use for kindling. WE might have enough kindling to get us a good way through the face cord itself. The folks running the business were really nice, and we chatted for a bit during drop off. Overall, well done, affordable, and nice experience.

Description of Work: Summary: We recently purchased 2 full cords of their kiln dried firewood. While there was a bit of a hiccup in delivery, the overall experience was positive and we would order again. Price: $300 per cord delivered Excellent price for the area. Wood dryness: While we haven't burned any yet, based on feel and weight it seems to be dry enough. Wood quality: Good quality. Size distribution is quite low (meaning its all similar size). No huge pieces. A good ratio of kindling to logs. Not a whole lot of knotty pieces. Split evenly. Smells nice. No rotting, no bugs, etc. Quantity: We're still stacking it so I can't address whether I got the full 2 cords. Based on what we've stacked so far I would say that yes, they delivered what was promised. Delivery: A few hiccups. Delivery was scheduled for Sunday morning, but at 11am I called them and they said that the kiln went down and asked whether they could come Monday morning (labor day). I give them props for delivery during times that most businesses would be closed but I would have appreciated a call on Sunday so I didn't have to waste my morning waiting for them. On Monday he delivered when he said he would.

The wood looks very good--the right size with no bugs, no rot! The only problem was the timing. This is a busy time, and they ended up delivering later in the month than I'd hoped. Better late than never, though!
Description of Work: We bought half of a full cord of firewood--delivered to our driveway.

We were interested in have a face cord of firewood delivered and found this listing with one good report. Their website listed prices, which were very reasonable, so we called. The man we spoke to said they were running about a week out, and he would call us by the following Friday to set a date and get an address and payment. We gave it TWO weeks, and then called back. When we called back, we were put on hold, and then our number was taken down, and we were told someone would call back within 10 minutes. No call. The next day we followed up again, to no avail. We finally decided to scrap it and called Firewood Delivery by Terry Benjamin (http://www.madisonfirewooddelivery.com/). We called him on a Tuesday and he apologized that the was shorthanded and wouldn't be able to have our wood to us until Thursday or Friday (that same week). We were thrilled with his service and I plan to go back (wish he had an Angielist listing to give him a GREAT rating).

Response from Green Thumb Farms
We are truly sorry that it didn't work out for you. We did respond and left a message but heard no response back so we just assumed that you found your wood elsewhere which you did. Sorry for the in convenience that we have caused you. We are glad that you did find wood and sure that Terry will provide you with a quality product as we would have also.

They delivered within a couple days of taking the order. There was a good mix of sizes of wood. They delivered to Madison with no extra delivery charge. We had been using a large local firewood provider for years. I found Green Thumb on Angies list. The service was great and their price is far better than anything I have found in Madison.

Went to Green Thumb to inspect their stock and confirm sizes of stone needed. There was no stock of either type (3/4" red granite, or 1 1/2" Baraboo washed), just dregs. Not wanting to have to make a return trip at a later date (after being told that they were about to receive a new shipment) with four children in tow and major road construction taking place on the highway from our home, I questioned what was present in the bin, requested to see the display case inside the main building and had a detailed discussion with Angie (an employee) about the size of the stone. I relayed to Angie that we had ordered the 1 ½” product a year ago, that what is in the bin is much smaller dregs, and that the rock we ordered last year was similar but larger than what is shown in the display case. It was at this time that I discussed our requirement for the larger stone and our experience with the rock we purchased last year. In essence, since we had experience with what we had purchased last year from Green Thumb, I spent time with Angie verifying that the product had not changed and confirmed this with her to the extent that we would be comfortable ordering the stone sight-unseen since it is difficult for us to make repeated trips to Green Thumb through road construction and with our children in tow. Angie emphatically assured me that the rock would be the right size when it came in, that what was in the bin was not representative of what the 1 ½” stone would be like and offered to communicate our concerns to Mr. Zeman and Deb (another employee). Since we had had good experiences with Green Thumb on many prior occasions we had no reason to suspect that we would not be satisfied. I felt comfortable ordering the rock via telephone the next day. It is important to note that when the order was phoned in, I made it clear that if Green Thumb had any difficulty in obtaining the large-sized rock that we should be contacted prior to delivery, reiterating that the size of the rock mattered for how we intended to use it. As soon as the Baraboo Washed stone was delivered, it was clear that what we received was a mixture of smaller sized rock with the vast majority falling below ¾” size. Within an hour of delivery we had contacted Green Thumb to inform them that the stone they delivered was much smaller than 1 ½” and was not acceptable. I e-mailed pictures and had detailed conversations with both Deb and Angie at Green Thumb. Rather than work with us to resolve the situation, Green Thumb’s response was to not accept any responsibility for providing rock that was clearly smaller than its marked size. Mr. Zeman offered to take back the rock if we would pay him a restocking fee. Since the error was on his part, I did not believe that we should be responsible for a restocking fee. Chad disagreed and we are at an impasse. Is has now been over 4 months and we still have the unwanted stone sitting on town property very near our home (allowed on a very temporary basis). Mr. Zeman expects us to return the stone to him but has threatened us with legal action if we ever set foot on his property. There is much more detail to share but long story short, this vendor delivered the wrong product and refuses to accept responsibility citing his "all sales are final" policy. This policy would apply if we had any control over what product was loaded and delivered by Green Thumb employees. In addition, Mr. Zeman is extremely unprofessional and used profanity in front of our small children upsetting them greatly (we frequented Green Thumb with the children especially for seasonal activities so they were accustomed to being there). The level of quality and customer service provided by Green Thumb Farms has obviously taken a radical turn for the worse and is unacceptable by even the lowest standards. We would no longer recommend this vendor to anyone!
Description of Work: Two types of landscaping stone were ordered - 3/4" red granite and 1 1/2-2" "Baraboo-washed" stone. Upon delivery it was immediately noted that the Baraboo-washed stone was substantially smaller than what was ordered - most of the stone was under 3/4" in size. The red granite was fine.
