I have screen material over the tops of all gutters here (not a fancy gutter covering "system," just screened over, professionally), so the gutters were NOT full of junk, anyway. I found them to be professional, punctual, pleasant, and trustworthy, so high marks given, all around.
Description of Work: I purchased the "gutter cleaning/roof inspection" offer from Angie's List. But I called first, to be sure they were familiar with tiled roofs, vs. traditional asphalt shingles. They were, so I went ahead and bought into the promotional deal.

 + 3 moreIt has been over a month. They are getting the window from someplace in Indiana and the plant was shut down over Thanksgiving. It isn't that big of a deal to me so when they get it in, that will be great. They have done a good job on the work they have done. I was happy with the work they did. They could have given me a little more warning about the timing on the current job. They have also bid a new roof for us but we didn't use them because they were about $5,000 more. Our neighbor highly recommended them. Their price may have been a little high but it wasn't like the roof was. They did quality work on the windows and gutters. I asked him if he could do this new window by the end of the year because of the tax credit. He was supposed to do it on December 29. I called him on December 28 and he said that the window still wasn’t in but he is going to give me the tax credit.
Description of Work: We ordered a window and Frey Construction and Home Improvement is going to put it in. They also are putting some column wraps on our house. They started the job and couldn't finish because it was too cold and the adhesive wouldn't bind. They will have to wait until spring. I used them two years ago to put in a sliding glass door and two kitchen windows. They also did new gutters.

 + 1 moreOur home sustained substantial hail damage in an early fall hailstorm. Our Frey salesperson, Mark Alexander, was more professional and knowledgeable than any of the competing contractors we received bids from (Waunakee Remodeling, Leon's Roofing, Ganser)...and was willing to match their competitors prices to boot. Mark and Scott Frey (the owner of Frey Construction) went to bat for us with our insurance company (MetLife) and got full coverage for replacing our hail damaged Leaf Protection System and increased our insurance payment by $2,000-$3,000. The work began and was completed on schedule, and the crews were equally as professional. They did (for the most part) quality work and were a pleasure to work with. We received all the warranty information right after the work was completed AND responses to all requests for additional information needed to complete the insurance process. The only real dissapointment was that one of the roof-jacks used by the siders ended up damaging a small portion of our newly installed roof (tore a shingle). Rather than replacing the shingle, Frey Construction's fix was to seal it using copious amounts of roofing sealer...this was not my preferred approach, rather it was the quick-and-easy fix for Frey. Overall we were pleased with our experience with Frey and have recommended / will continue to recommend them to our friends.

 + -1 moreI was up on the roof cleaning my gutters and noticed that racoons had torn off shingling around vents, almost exposing the wood underneath. Rain was in the forecast, so I called a number of roofers, including Frey. I forgot who I spoke with, but explained my situation, hoping to get someone out here that day to replace the shingling. I also mentioned that it should be a quick job, possibly 15-30 minutes. The gentleman contacted his team and got back to me almost immediately, and told me that he'd have someone out within the hour. He quoted me $75 for the work. 3 other companies couldn't come out that day, and the other company who could come out that day quoted me FOUR TIMES what Frey quoted me! To replace a few shingles?!?!? <head shake> When the roofer arrived (his name was Aaron) and assessed the damage, I could tell by the look on his face that it was going to be a longer job than I originally anticipated and quoted them. Sure enough, the job took him 1.5 hours to complete. I felt bad and told them not to hesitate to bill me for the time it took. 2 weeks later, we received a bill for exactly what was quoted, which surprised me, and I really appreciated. Aaron was really professional as well, did great work, and cleaned up his mess!! Nothing worse than shingle pieces and nails in your yard after roofing work. Thanks Aaron!  + 1 moreI thought Paul was very professional when he came out to do my hail damage inspection and extremely knowledgeable on many aspects of the damage to the property. Paul also climbed up on the roof to inspect (what a concept) and told me there was enough roof hail damage to warrant a roof replacement. He did tell me they were busy and it would take a few weeks to get documentation on the inspection/estimate. He did tell me he did not think they could match the siding so it would probably have to be replaced. It is now Sept and I still have not received anything from this company. Due to their slow response I am not sure that I would hire them for the job now.

He immediately climbed the roof to assess the damage and was back to me promptly with an appointment time for a bid. He is a very good salesman, but we chose to go with a company that was able to come in several thousand less for the identical materials and labor.

That Monday I took off of work to be home; no call, no show. I thought about calling the rep to see where he was or if he was coming or not, but decided I really wasn't up for this if this is how the company works with its customers.

 + 0 moreWe were concerned with water infiltration from ice dams on the roof so we decided to have a new roof installed. Mark Alexander, a Frey salesman, came and gave us an estimate for a roof but advised that in his opinion the problem was with leaf-clogged rain gutters, rather than the condition of the roof. We eventually had Frey install the leaf guards over the gutters and enlarge the down spouts (to solve another problem). In December we noticed that icicles had formed on the rain gutters. We called Mark about the problem. He was in the area and stopped by in about five minutes, went on the roof to inspect leaf guards and said that he did not think that there was a problem with the gutter guard installation. Said to call him back if the icicles returned. Even though icicles were hanging from the gutters, there did not seem to be ice dams behind the gutter guards. Couldn't be happier with Frey or Mark Alexander.
Description of Work: Frey installed leaf guards on the rain gutters and enlarged the downspouts on the house.

I got a couple of other bids, but they had the best value for the money and for the service they provided. My interaction with them was fine. They cleaned up well. The product was good. We did have an issue with one of the windows and they resolved it very quickly. They did everything well. They were little over priced. We got a new roof installed this fall and we got an estimate from them. We didn?t go with them because they were considerably more expensive than the company I ended up going with, but I know that they would have done a good job if we had hired them.
Description of Work: We had new gutters and windows installed by Frey Construction & Home Improvements in the summer of 2009.

 + 0 moreFollowing a hail storm in our area, Frey advertisted they would come out and do inspections for damage to roofing and siding, and quotes if needed. I called three separate times (over the course of about 3 1/2 weeks) and each time was assured someone would be out to inspect within the next couple days. (The third time assured they would come out the next day). Upon calling a fouth time (after about 1 month total had passed) I found out no one had yet been out to inspect. I find this completely unacceptable. If they were too busy, they should just say no (and not advertise on something they are incapable of delivering).

We received an estimate for the total repair job (again, I will discuss that once we move forward with that job), and Mark quickly broke out the portion that needed to be done immediately. I gave a deposit on the spot. They called to schedule just over a week later. I was not available when the work was done, but they gave me enough advanced notice that I could have been if necessary. The work was not very extensive, but was done quickly. The repair matches perfectly. There was no damage to landscaping or anything else. My experience was positive and I would certainly use them again.
Description of Work: Our house received major damage in a hail storm. This report only deals with the small repair that has been completed already. An area of fascia and some soffit needed immediate replacement and this has been done.

He adjusted the work crew's schedule to catch warmer weather for the installation of the rubber roof. The crew was friendly, efficient and worked hard. They were adaptable when car problems blocked their access to the driveway. When some of the underlying boards were found to be rotten, they discussed the problem with me and drew up a change order. Everything was well cleaned up.
Description of Work: Tore off and replaced a shingle roof over the family room and tore off and replace a rubber roof over the upstairs flat roof area. Replaced gutter covers with Leafproof gutter guards.

The owner of the company ended up compensating us with trim work. He also offered to change out the windows, but now it's a better fit. He worked with us and was really great about it. We referred him to our neighbors. They were great to work with.
Description of Work: They installed all the windows on the first floor, which was about ten to twelve windows. They did this over two years.

They asked questions and described possible problems as we moved throughout the process. Made sure they only did work that I had approved. The work area was cleaned and returned to a condition that was better than before work started. Only problem was that the workers had recored their time wrong but the office was courteous and corrected the issue promptly.

 + -1 moreIt was a very good experience. I got an estimate for services in early april. It took longer than I expected but seemed very thorough and complete. They looked in the attic got up on the roof and inspected it current condition. Asked a lot of questions about my expectations and desires. They explained the roofing options. They showed me samples of some of the options and explained how they were installed. I had already done research and had some idea of the style I was interested in and the salesman was able to explain how the style I was mostly interested in would be installed and the added costs for that style and why there were additional costs for the style. The salesman also provided information on possible tax and insurance benefits of the steel roof. The whole visit was approximately 2 hours. In the end I was left with a folder of sales brochures and the estimate. I checked into financing the cost and then told Frey that I wanted to proceed and which options I was interested in. The salesman took that information and came up with the price and I paid the initial 10% of the cost. Frey ordered the roofing material and scheduled the installation. There was a slight communication in the scheduling with me. I thought they were coming to start the installation a week before they actually were. But after that was resolved they started on time and the first day they removed the old roofing and started to install the new materials. I met the crew leader the first day and found him very personable and helpful. He and the crew kept the debris from the construction to a minimum and cleaned up each day. They also covered the roof every night so that there was never any risk of leaking while the roof was being installed. I was never impacted due to the construction or the equipment they used. Part of the agreement with Frey was to reinstall my satellite dish and they went above and beyond to get this done. They worked with the satellite company, not an easy job, and after a few tries got the dish reinstalled and working. The crew leader even ended up helping the satellite installers after his normal hours get the installation complete. He left and came back after work to get it done and stayed the whole time they were here and made sure I was satisfied before he left. They had to repair the power wires into the house as well. The only other issue with the rood installation was that the number of steel shingles initially ordered did not turn out to be enough. This was identified as the installation was going on and they were ordered at that time. It turned out that there were actually 2 additional orders. In part due to shingles damaged during shipping and the need to cut more than expected due to my installation needs. The shingles were installed the next week and everything worked out well. I'm very satisfied.
