Description of Work: An estimate on laptop repair was given to us by owner of $50 unless it had a virus,then $85.said he would call the next day with findings and he never called. We called him 3 times in the next two weeks. He told us finally he had to wipe out the hard drive and it would now cost $125.We gave him an ok on the work. We told him we were leaving out of town and of course he called us while we were gone. He said the key #on the bottom of the laptop was partially worn off and he needed it to upload windows back onto our computer and that we should call Microsoft to buy a new # for $75. If he knew he needed it to put our computer back together, why didn't he check that the number was clear in advance? We called to say we were coming in to get our computer in ten minutes and as we drove into the driveway, he drove out and left his young assistant to answer our questions. The assistant didn't work on our computer and apologized he didn't know what all was done so he couldn't help us. We previously had a Geek Squad quote of $200 for our repair but with his lower quote and being a locally owned shop we went with him. It ended up the same price and not a good experience.

Description of Work: Excellent experience. Only problem was length of time it took (four days although one was a Sunday)I thought it could have been done a day sooner. Would/will use them again in a heartbeat though. They also fix flat screen TV's which might come in handy in the future.

Description of Work: removed a stubborn virus from desktop computer

Description of Work: My computer hard drives crashed and I hadn't backed up my files in (too long!). I took the computer to Best Buy (Geek Squad), and was told that any data recovery "attempt" would be at least $250.00 per drive. They also said it was doubtful they could recover anything at all because both drives were so badly damaged. I found Computer Magic on Angie's list and figured I'd give it a try when I realized it was only a few minutes from my office. Kurt had me come in right away and took a look at the broken drives. He plugged them into his data recovery command center, and within 5 minutes said there was a good chance he could recover almost everything. He asked me if saving any possible data on the drives was worth $50.00 to me (um...yes!!), and said he'd give me a call when he was done. Less than 2 hours later, he called me back and asked if it was OK for him to run a more in-depth scan that would take overnight (for no charge). I picked up my things the next day. He had recovered almost everything from the drives, and gave me some good advice about how to keep it from happening again.
