I first got involved with Honey-Do by submitting a search request through the Service Magic website (before I signed up for Angie's). That website requires a phone and email address which I was reluctant to do but wasn't yet sure how to find quality handymen. I indicated my preferred method of contact was email. My search request was submitted on a Sunday morning around 8 am. By 9 am, I had gotten a phone call from Honey-Do. Honey-Do (Martin and his wife) proceeded to call to call me and send me emails every day for about a week until I accidentally answered one of their calls, gave in and setup an estimate. Martin was on-time for the estimate. I provided an overview of what I needed which included installing 14 prehung interior doors and 3 exterior prehung doors, all of which I had already purchased. I don't think he was listening to me since he next went on to explain to me about what a prehung door was. I had to walk him to a door I had already purchased to show him that I already knew ... I asked Martin what would be done with the old door frames & trim - if he could dispose of them and he avoided answering the question. The quote was sent after only a couple days. It was much higher than expected. Even after Honey-Do applied a 10% discount, it was about double what another company from Angie's list quoted for the same job. And for half the cost, the other company offered to cut open the frames, adjust the width to match the width of the doorways, and reapply the door stop. Martin did not even mention or offer to apply a door jam to fill in the difference. He barely looked around at the details. I received a follow-up call from Martin's wife on Christmas Eve to inquire if I was interested in hiring Honey-Do. I did not appreciate being bothered over the holiday. Aside from being prompt, I found the experience with Honey-Do to be a negative one. I was badgered by phone and email to setup the estimate. I found Martin to be very condescending and paid little attention to details. And the quote was overpriced for the service that was offered.

When he started the job, he had to cut out the templates out of paper which he said would cost me extra. That raised a flag for me because why would you need a template if you are experienced? He always wanted to come to the job first and THEN go get the supplies instead of the other way around! He also wanted me to give him a blank check to go the store! I fired him upon all of these reasons. There were a few times that he didn't show up when he was supposed to. Really no work was done except for getting those templates ready.
Description of Work: Hired him for vinyl flooring.

MARTIN IS AN EXCELLENT CARPENTER. HE'S VERY CREATIVE, AND KNOWS WHAT HE'S DOING. THIS WAS A FAIRLY GOOD EXPERIENCE, OVERALL. THERE WERE A FEW DAYS HE DIDN'T SHOW UP, THOUGH, AND DIDN'T CALL. I'D HAVE TO CALL HIM. HE DID WANT TO BE PAID IN FULL BEFORE HE WAS ENTIRELY DONE, WHICH I AM UNCOMFORTABLE WITH. THE SCREEN HOUSE TURNED OUT VERY NICELY, SO I GAVE HIM $100.00 TIP. THE NEXT DAY I NOTICED 4 OF THE 6 SCREENS WEREN'T TIGHT ENOUGH, AND PUCKERED EITHER AT THE TOP OR THE BOTTOM. I CALLED MARTIN TO COME OUT AT HIS CONVENIENCE AND TIGHTEN THEM. HE WAS RATHER RUDE AND SAID HE DIDN'T NOTICE THAT, BUT SAID HE'D COME OUT. THAT WAS THE LAST WEEK IN SEPT. HE NEVER SHOWED UP. HE ALSO DOESN'T CLEAN UP AFTER HIMSELF AND LEFT ALL WOOD, SIDING, SUPPLY WRAPPERS, FAST FOOD WRAPPERS, SODA CUPS, BROKEN CEMENT AND PATIO BRICKS LAYING THERE. I HAD TO HIRE SOMEONE TO HAUL THE CEMENT AWAY. I WOULDN'T HIRE HIM AGAIN BECAUSE OF HIM NOT COMING OUT TO TIGHTEN THE SCREENS.
Description of Work: BUILT A LITTLE SCREEN HOUSE OFF THE BACK OF THE HOUSE.

MARTIN IMMEDIATELY ANSWERED THE PHONE. I TOLD HIM MY PROBLEM AND HE SAID HE COULD COME IN 1 HOUR. HE WAS VERY PUNCTUAL, AND CAME PREPARED TO WORK. HE HAD TO BLOW TORCH MANY OF THE TILES OFF. IT TOOK 5 HOURS. HE BUNDLED UP ALL THE TILES AND THREW THEM IN THE TRASH. HE SWEPT UP THE ROOM AFTERWARDS. HE IS VERY NICE. I ASKED HIM ABOUT DOING SEVERAL OTHER THINGS AROUND THE HOUSE, AND HE WOULD HONESTLY TELL ME IF HE DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO DO IT. HE'S A HARD WORKER. NO MUSIC PLAYING. I WILL DEFINITELY CALL HIM AGAIN.
Description of Work: MARTIN REMOVED ALL THE TILES ON THE FLOOR OF MY 12X17 ROOM. THE TILES WERE THE SMALLER 12X12 ONES AND VERY STUCK TO THE CEMENT FLOOR. AFTER TRYING TO UNSTICK SEVERAL MYSELF, I DECIDED TO CALL MARTIN.
