I had water coming in around my chimney after a heavy rain. Hickey said that they would come out to repair but would charge a service fee. I had two other companies come out and they suggested that they thought that it was a tuckpointing issue. Hickey came out and said that he was sure that it was not tuckpointing, but that the roof which was at least 5 years old and never had a problem before was installed incorrectly and he told me all the things that were done incorrectly in his opinion. He was there less than 20 minutes, because he did not bring anyone else along that could help him assess the problem by running water onto the roof and said he would need to come back with someone else to do that. I had the chimney tuckpointed by a different company and that actually did solve the problem, contrary to what I was told by Hickey. A few weeks later, I got a bill from Hickey for $120 for a service call. He was at the house for less than 20 minutes. When I sent the bill back saying that I would not pay it. I got a phone call from him, where again he said that the other roofers did not know what they were talking about. I said you don't even know who was here given me opinions. He said "I know all the roofers in Oshkosh". So in other words he was bad mouthing every other roofer in Oshkosh. Next I said that he was charging $120 for not doing any work. He said he had to drive here and compared himself to an attorney. He admitted that he was here for less than 20 minutes, so I said that means your fee is $360/hour? I can find attorneys for a lot less than that. I am paying his bill, but made him aware that I would be giving him a poor review.

Bill called me a few days after I left a message, and despite initial reservations about climbing up on our 12/12 roof, he agreed to do a visual inspection from the ground. What a pleasant surprise when Bill arrived with a ladder and actually climbed on the roof. The rear, northwest section of the main house box had suffered shingle damage. Upon further close inspection, Bill noticed that we had two layers of shingles but no felt, ice barrier or OSB beneath those layers of shingles. He also inspected the rest of the roof and noticed a few more tanks had blown off on the southwest quarter of the roof. Overall, though, the roof was sound, and he said it had years of wear leftnon it. The storm had caused many small projects like ours as well are larger projects due to the severity of the sustained winds.Bill kept us apprised of where we were in the priority list, and before we knew it, materials arrived on our front lawn. When I called Bill to ask if he wanted me to move the materials off the main road he said no and even commiserated with me when he learned that the insurance company had found a loophole to avail paying a dime of our claim. When the crew showed up, they worked quickly and professionally. In a single day, the bulk of the work was complete. Even though the crew turned down an offer of water, they expressed appreciation. When the work was done, they cleaned up completely. We noticed some damage to the gutter they had to remove and a few shingles still missing from the southwest quarter of the roof. A single call had someone from Hickey out at our house repairing the gutter and replacing the missing tabs. They even cleaned up a bit of waste from the roof that we could not see from the ground. I have always hesitated to use contractors, even reshingling my own garage roof despite no experience to avoid paying a professional. Bill's professionalism, honesty, and quality of work has changed my opinion of contractors. If the remaining quarters of the roof need repair, Bill will be my first call.

Hickey Roofing did an excellent job re-decking and roofing our home. They have been voted and quot;The Best of Winnebago Countyand quot; for several years. They were very professional with the quotes, installation, cleanup, billing, phone calls, questions and concerns. We’re very happy with our new roof, which looks great. They went above and beyond what would be expected of a roofing company. They also helped us when our insurance company was being difficult by taking photos and writing them a letter. When we had a question or concern during the installation the owner or his son came over to make sure everything was done properly. The installing team was polite, hard working and they did a very good job. The job site supervisor was easy to work with and answered our questions. Their prices were good. Yes, there are lower priced companies, but we know you get what you pay for. Our last roofer talked a good story, was cheaper and did a poor job.
