I was ready to move forward, and out of the blue, Bob got touchy about a few questions I passed along that my girlfriend found on a web site about questions to ask any contractor (and questions she had passed along when working for her boss as an executive assistant for him for 30 years.) He took personal offense at me asking for their certificate of insurance - when it says right on one of their PDF's feel free to ask about that. She was simply trying to be helpful to me - and I had no idea that asking questions could be construed as "offensive." When he inexplicably decided not to do the job - I sent him a few e-mails asking him why he was so sensitive to questions - and apologized if I had someone offended him somehow through the questions. These were the "offensive questions" (she had not read their intro PDF about their warranty or insurance yet) Can they provide you with Certificate of Insurance (liability?workers comp?) Also, contract should stipulate start date(s) and completion date. Do they warranty their work? Can they provide a Certificate of Insurance - and name you and your address as "additional insured"? Also, ask that you receive the "release of lien" from Greenscape and any subs they may use at the completion of work and final payment. Will they have to pull permits?? (I told her no - no permit required) Bob sends me an Email Rick, I missed the other request of a lien release. My apologies but I am going to pass on the job. We are a professional firm that does outstanding work. Your requests for release of lien, additional insured and other unusual requests as if you are a general contractor are not something we or the owner desire getting involved in. As you can see by the contract there are no subs in the first place. I?m not sure if you have somehow been taken advantage of by a contractor, but our awards and customer service speak for themselves and I?m not interested in getting so litigious before a contract even starts. We have far too much work to bother with a relationship that starts with asking for freebies, special requirements, and special payment terms. There are just too many red flags here. I started my career on handshakes, completing excellent work for great people and continue to do so without the use of lawyers. As a professional design build firm we also do not ?throw in? services, we are a business that is paid for the work we do. I wish you luck on your project but we are going to have to pass on working with you. Thanks, Bob I responded back: Bob - I was simply passing along q's that my girlfriend found online about questions you should ask any contractor... otherwise - I certainly wouldn't have asked... (other than maybe start and completion date) I apologize if the questions hit a nerve... I'm a handshake kind of guy myself w/my rental cabin in northern WI. I am certainly willing to pay for you to take out the shrubs out front. I had just wondered if the equipment was there if they could be yanked at same time at no cost. I apologize if that was somehow offensive. I was impressed with your customer service / responsiveness and ideas and professionalism - so that response comes as a bit of a shock. I hope we can move forward together. Please let me know - otherwise I have to start looking elsewhere due to my short time fuse - and I really don't want to look elsewhere. Thanks Then I E-mailed him By the way - I didn't even read the fine print in your contract at all as I'm a handshake kind of guy.... so didn't see that there weren't any subs or anything else in it.... I'd be the last person in the world to ever litigate anything...and I've never litigated w/anyone in my life... I told her you told me the other day that you went back to fix whatever voluntarily & that is the type of guy you are so I don't think I need to pass along those Q's but I will anyway (since she had read online that they should be asked of any contractor)... I left a VM for Bob - asking why he was bombing out on me. I was simply asked a few questions. He called back stated that because I had sent him a number of e-mails apologizing if I had somehow offended him with the questions - and left one apology (though I really didn't need to) voice mail - he was going to opt to not work for me because I had sent too many e-mails. Really? I was trying to clarify that is wasn't even me that had proposed the questions - just my girlfriend trying to be helpful - and the reasons she thought the questions would be good to ask. After the fact - my friend sent me this http://www.angieslist.com/articles/remodeling-know-what-insurance-you-need-protect-yourself.htm Bob Davenport, president of highly rated Humble & Davenport Insurance Brokers in Renton, Wash., advises homeowners to always get themselves added in writing as an additional insured on a contractor?s general liability policy. This can usually be done for no cost or a nominal fee. ?This verifies the insurance is active, as it?s dated and comes from the insurance agent,? he says. ?And if he misses a payment and the insurance is canceled, they have to send you notice.? after she read Bob's e-mail that stated that he had never been asked that question in 27 years - and took personal offense to me asking if I could be added as an additional insured. From his response - apparently they do not want to issue a lien release if you pay in full. He found that request offensive. Finally - he called me stating that since I had sent "7 e-mails" of apology - that was another reason he was quitting. This is grounds to just ditch me after I was counting on them to do the work? Since I am on a short timeline to get the work done - this is really going to leave me in the lurch. I was counting on them to do the work - and I had been pleased with the experience up to that bizarre response of "I am not going to do your project." He said "we have plenty of business - we don't need your business" Such a nice thing to say to a potential client...... Beware that this company will take offense at any question you may ask about insurance or their contract or if you ask about if anything can be thrown in. Apparently - one of the "Seven e-mails" (beware of sending too many e-mails) was my ok - sounds good to go... even after he sent this No residential work is listed as additional insured (extremely unusual request ? a first for me in 27 years). That is for commercial work. To my knowledge they won?t even do it for a residence as you are not a general contractor/business, in any case the minimum charge commercially is $500 for an AI if you want me to check. I e-mailed - Ok sounds good - I could make a partial deposit payment today via card if that would help move things up a day :-) Will see if I can find a pic of the front for you. (vis a vis for a quote for shrub removal) I talked to owner a day later who promised to call me back the next day after talking with Bob and he never did. On the phone - as a sidenote - he said "Bob thinks you might have been a micro-manager if he had taken the project." Really? I only defined the basic parameters with Bob such as the materials to be used - and gave him carte blanche to do whatever he thought would be best for everything. As a musician on the side - I'm all about making sure others have creative freedom. That is pretty laughable. I informed him via VM that without a lien waver after full payment has been made "not saying his company would" -- if a company didn't pay one of their suppliers and a consumer didn't know about it - the supplier could lien the house. Thus - that was the purpose of asking if a lien waiver would be made after full payment has been made. I'd think any reputable company would do so with no problem - and certainly not have a spazz attack over someone asking questions "that you should ask any contractor" per the web. Regarding "handshake" comment by Bob - their contract does have many stipulations - so it is hardly a handshake contract. Don't waste your time with this company. If they can't even be professional about questions you ask - or you send too many e-mails for their taste (none of them were responded to at the end by the way - when I was trying to figure out why they would just bomb out over a few questions that were asked) - or you ask them if they can throw in a minor thing - you risk them bombing out with you - which begs the question - if they are that way in the proposal phase......
Description of Work: I was ready to move forward with the contractor and liked what he had proposed. But then at the last second (after I spent a number of hours meeting with them and defining final plan) Bob stated that he can't work with me because he was "offended" that I asked if they could pull out the shrubs in front at the same time, and that (even though I made it clear it was from my girlfriend) I had asked questions about insurance, warranty, start and stop date etc.

Bob and his crew arrived when they said they would and worked until the water feature and landscaping were complete. The work was done in a professional manner and all 6 workers were polite and courteous. Debris clean up was complete and well done. Bob said it would look natural which was what we wanted and it is. We are thrilled with our new water feature and have already spent many hours enjoying it. Neighbors and friends are also very impressed. Thank you Bob and crew.

We couldn't be more pleased with our new patio and stairs or with the whole process. The owner Bob Wombach met me promptly at every scheduled meeting, responded to calls/emails almost immediately and his proposals arrived earlier than promised. Co-creating the design with him was smooth, easy, and delightful. The work took place exactly when it was scheduled, which was important as I had to close my home business during the construction. The crew were friendly perfectionists and creative problem solvers, and seemed to really be having a good time with each other and with the work they were doing. There were a couple of times when we got concerned that a detail was being overlooked, and both times they were already several steps ahead of us on creating the right solution. This team seemed totally dedicated to designing/creating our project to be at least if not more beautiful than we could have imagined. We would hire them again for our next project without any hesitation whatsoever. I contacted Greenscapes based on the Angie's List reviews I read and the reviews were spot on!

Right from the start, this was a positive experience. After contacting Greenscapes through Angie's List, we immediately heard back from Landscaping Designer Bob Wambach. He met with us several days later and walked our entire 2.5 acre property with us, patiently viewing all our current landscaping and listening to our ideas on what we liked and what we wanted to change. He made suggestions based on our future plans for our property and made sure to note the types of plants and colors we were interested in. He incorporated plants which attract birds and butterflies for us. He took detailed notes and pictures. Several days later we received an itemized estimate of how much our project would cost. He sent picture links to every type of plant he suggested. Once our deposit was received (50%), Greenscapes immediately scheduled our project. The morning our landscaping began, Jeff was here bright and early with a crew of two and all were very professional and knowledgeable. They worked diligently for two days pruning EVERY bush and tree that needed it, removing dead plants, planting new plants, mulching, and did an awesome job cleaning up the entire property when they were finished. They removed all dead and pruned plant material. Jeff walked the whole property with me to give me his ideas on pruning and removing some overgrown plants before he removed anything. He and his crew did a wonderful job and we are so happy with our landscaping. We will be asking Greenscapes back in the spring to spray the weeds, and to prune in the fall. We will also use them for ALL of our future landscaping projects.
Description of Work: Consulted with us about our plans for the property. Designed a landscape plan based on our needs/wants and sizes and colors of plantings we preferred. Sent us a detailed estimate for our project, including pruning, removal of dead plants, planting of new trees and bushes along with color photos of all suggested plants, cost of mulching and labor. Completed project in a timely and professional manner. Removed all plant waste and left property very neat and clean. Consulted with us during the job on ideas they had to make the landscaping look better.

The service is going excellent. They are very professional. They are on time. Everything was an upfront cost. They worked with us on pricing too. So, if we wanted to switch something around, they were excellent. The guy that owns it actually has his whole factory of systems so you actually know what you are paying for and you can adjust your prices if you want to go up or down. He was just great with that. We are using them again next year for another project.

Bob the estimator was very knowledgeable and gave very useful suggestions in planning the work. The team did a fine job --the yard looks great. The guys were well organized and easy to work with. They also made an effort not to trample the flowers and cleaned up the yard nicely. Two items, however, were mistakenly left off the work order. The team took care of one without question and then, after my checking with Bob, returned promptly to complete the job. Everyone was courteous and agreeable and a pleasure to do business with.

They were very expensive. I had to only do that part. They quoted me $7000 to do my front yard. They were quick. I was supposed to have the work done a week later than what they did. They had an opening so they squeezed me in and that was nice. The grass is growing so they did their job.

I was very pleased with the work done by Greenscapes. Bob Wambach came out to the house and we walked the yard together. He listened to our needs for the yard, made thoughtful suggestions, and was very approachable yet professional. I received prompt answers ( always within the day) for any questions I had. The employees who installed the landscape were prompt and careful. They even voluntarily replaced a few of my existing plants to other areas in my yard. We were very happy with the work and quality we received from Greenscapes and would highly recommend them to anyone with landscaping needs.
Description of Work: Greenscapes removed the overgrown and dead bushes from our yard. They worked with with me to design a landscape that was attractive and maintenance friendly for our lifestyle. Two trellises were built to add screening to our deck while allowing a view to the rest of the backyard.

I contacted four different companies to get quotes for this project. Greenscapes had the quickest response time, provided excellent design ideas, had the best rough draft, and was the cheapest. I came home to find the basin not at ground level but set at least 2 inches too high. A gap of 2 to 3 inches was between the basin and the hole. I looked outside today and saw that the hole had filled with water and the basin was floating (in spite of having several gallons of water and bricks inside it). Bob sent 2 young men to fix it. They seemed nice but were clueless as why this had happened and exactly how to fix it so it did not happen again. They used buckets to remove the 8-9 gallons of water and planned to move the mud around to reposition the fountain basin. I called Bob who kept talking about how the job (which he himself had bid) had already cost him twice as much as he had charged. He became patronizing and talked the price of my inexpensive basin. He also went on about the "physics" of it perhaps thinking that as a woman the very word physics should strike fear in my heart - not being aware that some of us not only took physics in high school but also at the university level. They claim to do very expensive and therefore more important fountains but for crying out loud, all they had to do was deepen a hole, position a plastic basin and fill in soil around it properly and completely.
Description of Work: I had a very, very simple job for Greenscapes. A small fountain in the backyard had lifted up from the ground and was tilted. It needed to be removed, a deeper hole dug, gravel put in, and soil filled in around the basin.

We tried to do [Member name removed] a favor discounted at our cost as she lives fairly close to our location. Unfortunately it did not work out as we could not convince [Member name removed] that a small aquatic plant container made out of plastic can not be the lowest point of the bed as it will continue to float up after heavy rains. It either needed to be raised or clear stone would have to be installed under it. We leveled the container and raised it up 2" so the rain water would no longer cause the container to heave from the ground. [Member name removed] then requested the container be lowered again and that a liner be placed under it. We returned as requested and lowered the container again and, as expected, after the first rain it heaved out of the ground. She requested a liner be installed under it to which we replied a liner will cause the container to float even faster as the run off would then fill between the liner and the container and you do not need both a liner and a container. This was taken as a "physics lesson." We decided not to charge [Member name removed] for any services provided and go our separate ways.

The owner of Greenscapes promised to place snow makers on our property before the first snowfall; he did not. Thus, some walk ways could not be located by the snow removal crews. The owner of Greenscapes promised that services (sidewalk snow removal) would be handled by one crew; they were not. The owner of Geenscapes promised to consult our property manager before salt was applied to the property. Salt was applied by Greenscapes without consulting the property manager.

With respect to the comments of this member, we as well as the city and other snow removal companies were not ready for the 2 inches of snow that fell Nov. 25th. The forecast stated less than a 1/2 inch of snow which turned into a winter storm. We were in the process of installing plow markers which we always do the last 2 weeks of November but of course the snow didnt allow for them to be installed on time. In response to the members complaint about not the same crews coming to the property, again, we had our routes in the process of scheduling before the storm arrived. Thus, our responsibility is to make sure the property is safe and passable for homeowners and visitors. I have inspected the property and did send a crew again the next morning at 500 am to address any icy areas and I didn't notice any areas that were missed but I will send a crew over to inspect again this morning. In the future, for better response to any issues, I would directly call my office or our managers so that we can alleviate any issues at that time. If we dont hear anything from our customers, how are we suppose to know there is a problem? We will be installing plow markers at the property next Monday morning as we were going to install the 25th but again, could not. As stated, we will have the same crews at the property this year since we do have our schedules completed now as well as all our equipment out of storage and repairs.

These guys were absolutely great! They did a wonderful job and provided a perfect service. The only reason i have to down grade them is because the guy who performed the work graded my neighbor's yard in the process. They were not too happy with that and I wound up being the bad neighbor for a bit. It was resolved eventually, buti think a bit more due diligence inmaking sure they get the right guy would go a long way, especially in areas where the property lines are close to houses. Other than that, A+.

Thank you for the review [Member name removed]. While the employee mentioned has over 6 years of experience, he did make an error in grading which we quickly remedied. It actually worked out for the best as your neighbor was also having water issues in her basement and was about to put the house up for sale. The mistake turned out to benefit both properties allowing us to remedy her water issues at no charge to her. In end, this makes you the Good Neighbor!

Came out for the bid and I was looking for some suggestions of low maintenance shrubs. Came up with the knockout roses, which I love. I had some hydrangeas planted on the side of the garage that were not doing well because it was a very intense sun. Bob said they would do much better on the side where we were landscaping, so they moved them and alternated with the roses. Then they plated the potentillas where the hydrangeas where because he said they can handle the intense heat there. It was a rough spring and so of course it rained heavy the next day or two which washed away all the grass seed. I called expecting to have to pay to have the part re-seeded again but they took care of it no problem. Nice job!

From beginning to end, Bob and his crew were utmost professionals. Bob spent almost an hour with me identifying the plants that I already had in my new yard. He was very honest about what they did and didn't do and what we could do as homeowners, versus paying someone. I received the estimate quickly and it was very reasonable. He ended up having the work completed a week earlier than was scheduled, which was wonderful. His crew probably spent over 8 hrs at my house and were friendly and helpful.
Description of Work: Ground two tree stumps and removed three huge yew bushes and prepped/seeded the ground, cleared away (years' worth of) debris, removed old (woody) ivy roots, picked up a large amount of rotting black walnuts and graded the yard away from the house.

Overall, it went great. Bob was very good at getting back to me with the estimate, and any questions I had about the work. The work ended up getting delayed a couple days due to weather, and it took them about a day and a half longer than they originally anticipated due to some unforseen issues with my old patio, and some problems with how the phone company sprayed their lines. I had one issue when the work first started where I came home while they were sawing and breaking pieces of the concrete step to remove it. While doing this they were not protecting my windows, patio door, or siding, so I heard some peices of concrete hit the house and got a little worried. So, I called Bob and he told me they were supposed to be using large boards to cover the house and he called his workers and they fixed the situation. Luckily no major damage was done to the house. Otherwise, the quality of the work was very good. The grading they did really helped with the water coming into our basement, although, unfortunately it was not able to stop it completely. The patio looks great! They even put our cat fence back up for us! They also did a wonderful job of cleaning up and fixing the areas of the yard that were dug up through the process of the work. Although the price was more than I wanted to spend, as it was supposed to be the cheaper fix to our water problem, they quailty of work and customer service was wonderful, and I fully recommend them to anyone looking for landscaping, putting down pavers, or any work really.
Description of Work: Greenscapes came in to remove our old patio, grade the patio area, and replace the patio with pavers.

We opted to go with another Angies list company to do our scaled back project due to budget. We would not hesitate to recommend Greenscapes only based on their friendly professionalism and communication, since they did not perform any landscaping. Our budget was just too tight to accept the proposal.
Description of Work: Bob is a complete landscape professional. He had great ideas for our yard. He had his proposal back promptly, When it was over our budget, he scaled back and had a new proposal back to us almost immediately. Still too high for us.

I live on 4 acres so have a longer than normal driveway. Greenscapes was the only company I contacted that actually came out and inspected my property. He staked the driveway before the first storm so he knew where the driveway was on the property. He was out there on a timely bases after each storm. Work was high quality. He came back in the spring and repaired blade marks. I am very pleased and will use them again next year.
Description of Work: Plowed my driveway this winter.
