John Freiburger was excellent! This is my first home purchase, and I had a lot of questions and concerns about buying an older home. John was helpful and responsive from the very first phone call. He was able to schedule the inspection quickly and was thorough and meticulous. He examined the house carefully, not only looking for issues or problems, but also pointing out features that were above average or exceptional in the successive renovations to the home. He was familiar with the various brands and qualities of water heaters, water softeners, furnaces, appliances, etc. and was able to give estimates of how long they were likely to last and which companies around town could service older models. He pointed out anything that was not currently "up to Code" and also knew what had been required in the previous decades of renovation. He helped me to understand which problems were an easy fix and which would be more complicated (or costly). He also answered my questions about renovation possibilities. There were issues with the older roof and insulation, and he sketched alternatives for interim solutions on venting and insulation before the whole roof would need replacement. He did not provide photos, but I took pictures myself. His report was thorough and prompt, and the sellers lowered the price in response, even though there were multiple offers on the home.

John Freiburger of Freiburger Construction Consulting, Inc. was recommended to us by a good friend when we were in the market for a home inspector when we put a bid on a house. (We did not want to go with any of the 3 home inspectors that the seller's real estate agent recommended to us, as we could not be guaranteed that they'd inspect and report honestly.) So we got a hold of John and he did the inspection on 5/4/2000. I remember John being quite excited when he saw our 100-year old Sears catalog home. John did the inspection as any good home inspector would do, but he went above and beyond by explaining in great detail things that we needed to understand (to name a few = cisterns, knob-and-tube wiring, the 65-year old gas furnace, the crumbling sand and rock basement walls, etc.) and the why/how they did the things they did when building a home in 1900. I took copious notes as he taught us alot about our future century old home that we never would have learned on our own as first-time home buyers. The most incredible thing that John did for us was find open/exposed asbestos in a living room heating duct that at least three prior home inspectors had missed over the years. John's home inspection was a valuable educational experience, and his detailed report gave us everything we needed to successfully negotiate the purchase price of our house which we still call home (10 years later).
