The technician was over an hour late for starters. While in the house performing the requested services he was polite and courteous. The trouble came following the service. We had been told the carpets would dry within in twelve hours and were given special plastic booties to wear should we need to walk on them. The furniture was not to be placed back into the rooms until the carpet had fully dried. We followed these instructions to the letter as we did not want to re-soil the carpet or damage the carpet or furniture. It took three days for the carpets to fully dry and there were many areas where spots remained or the carpet had not come clean. We called ServiceMASTER to inquire about having the spots remedied. Upon calling the owner, Vicki, she had informed us that they had been discussing our home and carpets. She told us there was excessive wear and tear of the carpets and there was no way they could get the spots out. They further went on to say that the excessive amount of cat urine damaged the carpets further, added extra cleaning time and that we had added so many extra rooms we had caused their technician to run far behind the rest of the day. She implied that they were talking about us behind our backs, so to speak, and that our house was filthy and full of cat pee. This angered me and when I attempted to refute this fact she stated, and I quote, "my son-in-law was the one who did the service and I am going to believe his word over yours". I do NOT believe this is the way to run a business. Doing a poor job then accusing your clients of being filthy and liars. The carpets downstairs are only a year old and the ones upstairs are only five years old. Only three people live in this house and they are all adults. We employ a cleaning service who comes in twice a month to clean, dust and vacuum and in between that we maintain it doing the very same things the cleaning people do. This cleaning crew has be employed by us for 20 years now. Explain to me how there is excessive wear and tear on the carpets, that the house is filthy and that there is excessive cat urine ever where. The simple answer is it is not true and ServiceMASTER simply did not want to own up to or correct their mistake. This is not a business I will do business with again or recommend to anyone dead or alive. What happened to the customer is always right?
Description of Work: We had originally requested only the lower level Family room and Bedroom carpets be clean but a misunderstanding in price lead us to have the upstairs Living Room, Hallway and just inside two bedroom doors also be cleaned. That was a total of 917 sq feet at 0.31 per sq feet. We also had the stairs cleaned at 2.25 per stair. The technician did in fact clean the carpets in all areas requested including special care to two small areas where my moms cat had urinated.

Response from ServiceMaster Clean
The customer made an appointment for carpet cleaning to have a family room done. Our technician was running a little late that day but they were called and informed of this before the appointment time. When he arrived, they added 5 for areas and a set of steps on. The next day they called to complain about some spots in the living room only that did not come out. I discussed with (Member) that spot removal can not be guaranteed and pointed out the area on the invoice that states this. This invoice was signed by (Member)’s mother, the customer, that she had read and understands it. (Member) then tried to tell me that our technician did not clean all the areas that he charged for. We know this not to be true. We did not in any way call these people filthy or talk about them behind there back. We simply had discussed this job when the technician had finished at the end of the day because the added on rooms made him run further behind and we needed to know about that. There are areas to check on the invoice if there are pet spots or excess wear or soiling for this very reason. These areas were check, that is how I knew of these issues, not because we had be talking about the customer or calling them filthy. I had simply pointed out to (Member) that is was likely that the spots were cat urine that they may not have been aware of. If there are urine spots that we are not aware of they sometimes will show up after the carpet is cleaned, but there isn’t anything we can do about that. As far as the misunderstanding of the price, they thought they would get 3000 sq ft of carpet cleaned for our minimum charge of $96.00 and it is 300 sq ft. They never mentioned the carpets not being dry within 12 hours, and we always tell our customers 24 hours, not 12.
