On October 17th 2009 my wife and I went to see Gene Tomaszewski owner of CWC TEKCOM at his store. We were looking to have a new antenna system installed on the tower that we have. The antenna we had was good but 20+ years old and the rotor was bad. I wanted 2 fixed antenna 1 for Lacrosse and 1 for Eau Claire and Wausau along with a new mast. Gene recommended the new antenna because they were a lot smaller and better then the old larger type and that I also needed a booster the total price was $733.43 installed. I asked if the new antenna would be big enough and I was told ?THEY WILL GET EVERTHING YOU WANT AND I WOULDN?T BE SURPRIZED IF YOU GET A FEW EXTRA?. Gene asked about the tower and said he did like the ones with the straight cross bars I said I didn?t think we had that kind. When we got home I saw we had the one he didn?t like so I called him and told him I would understand if he didn?t want to do it, he said no he would get done. Gene called me a week later and set up a time for the following Saturday and that someone else would be coming out to do the install. We waited all day, but no one showed . Then on Sunday morning Taran Welchlin called and said he was coming to do the install, that there must have been a misunderstanding on the day. Taran comes in a compact car and pulls the 2 small 3foot antennas out of the back. I ask if they were mine he said yes. I said ?your joking?. The answer was no, this what I paid $190.00 each. I said you know the old one is 16 feet long. He said they will do the job. Taran started to remove the old antenna but didn?t have all the tools he need so I gave him some of mine to use. The old one came down and the new started to go up. The mast went up with the first antenna on it, he had some problems getting it up the tower and the back element kept getting bent back and forth. This is why the element blew off 3 months after it was up. After the mast was locked in, he ran the wire down the tower and into the basement hooking it up to the system. Taran then went back up the tower and started to aim it at Wausau the strongest signal we could get was between 75 and 80%. Then he started on the second antenna installing it and aiming it but could not get 2 of the LaCrosse channels. Taran said he had a larger antenna that Gene had given him claiming it was left over from another job and that he would just change them out and not say anything to Gene . I told him I didn?t want any problems with Gene. He said no it was his antenna. I said we would change it out after work on Monday. Taran came on Monday and had an antenna about 5 feet long. He took the short one down and the wind came up I told him to call me when he could come to finish and he left the antenna in my garage. Two weeks went by . I called Taran on Saturday morning and got his machine so I left a message. About a half hour later I got a call from Gene asking if I?m happy with the system and looking to get paid . I told him the job wasn?t done and he told me that Taran had told him it was finished and had gotten paid for the job. Gene said he had talked to Taran and thought that the wiring was wrong , that he was going by Taran?s house to get the other antenna and come right out. When Gene arrived he said he went by Taran?s house he could hear people but they would not answer the door. Gene installed the larger antenna (which he said was his, not Taran?s), corrected the wiring connections, set it for Lacrosse and tried to reset the Wausau antenna also but the signal was still low . I told him at that time I would try it and see what happens. On the way down off the tower Gene hung from his belt , rocked back and forth and said this tower is in good shape . At that time Gene added $30.00 for the larger antenna and I paid him $765.00. I called Gene in January and talked to his son about the problems with the Wausau antenna signal going out completely and asked him to have Gene call me when he could. I never heard from him. Again in the spring I called and talked to Gene. He said he was having some health problems but would see about getting someone else to look at it when he could. After 2 months I sent Gene a letter listing the problems and stating I would extend him another 30 days to fix it after that his system was coming down and being returned for a full refund. He sent me a letter back stating the problems with the system were my fault, he was out 4 times to try and satisfy me, and I would not get any refund. So I am left with 2 damaged antenna ( from bending back and forth and the wind took them all the way off) and the 1 is to small and doesn?t work anyway. From what I can tell that size antenna is only good up to 40 miles I don?t know what brand it is and I could not find it on-line.
