Self Storage on Wheels

We rented for 6 months and are being charged for damage to springs and axles from being overweight. According to the truck driver, this new owner has gone through all the trailers and is forwarding the charges to the clients for being overweight. According to him, “there are a bunch.” We don’t even know if there was damage because we don’t have proof and have requested a copy of our contract four times and haven’t gotten a response. Now we have to pay over $3k for damage that we don’t know is real or not just because they are holding our items hostage. He even tried saying we didn’t pay the last months rent and he is updating the invoice for that. We got charged the last month on autopay even though we gave this notice to vacate. I have an email stating that we have to pay the whole month anyways and are paid through the 13th of April. Well the owner didn’t seem to care and wants us to pay it anyway just to get our stuff back. At this point, bad business practice has won and we are paying because a lot of our kid’s stuff is on there and things like that are priceless. Please avoid doing business with them if you want to keep your sanity. They can respond how they want to this review but I have all of the emails and lack of as proof.

In this instance, we dealt with the Kenosha/Racine location. The $110 was the per month rate. The clean, virtually new, trailer was delivered promptly, and was well equipped for secure storage. While we used the trailer, its contents stayed safe and dry. All went well until the time came for the trailer to be picked up. The trailer was picked up promptly, and we paid for the final month of its use. Several days later, we were notified by Self Storage on Wheels that we owed an additional $130 fee because the trailer's pick up occurred on a day which was outside of their normal schedule. When we inquired further about this, we were told the provision had been in "the fine print" and the company's representative insisted we were advised of the fee when we arranged for the trailer's return-we were not. The representative was condescending and verbally abusive and answered further inquiries with "when do I get my money?", refusing to provide any more information. I strongly urge potential customers to avoid this provider.

Everything was as explained. They brought out the trailer, placed it on my driveway but made it so I could still park and get at my garage. They put these really heavy duty locks on it so it won't magically disappear one me in the middle of the night. I couldn't believe how inexpensive it was compared to PODS. Not only that, but you deal with one person, maybe two if Matt is off. He was great, by the way. He is very professional, and follows up right away. I highly recommend these guys for anyone moving or needing temporary storage.

Delivery and pick up was smooth. Trailer was in good condition. The owner and associates are friendly. My items and trailer is stored at their facility, so I will update my review periodically.

The drop off of the trailer went well. We priced out different onsite storage options and Storage on Wheels seemed to offer the best price and we liked that it was a trailer because of where we wanted to tuck it into the back of our yard (other companies weren't going to be able to accommodate the location we wanted the storage unit and would have needed to take a giant truck onto our neighbors driveway). The trailer was in excellent condition and it was very easy to access the items we stored in it. We were happy with the company for 8 mos. The problems started when we needed to cancel the contract and have the trailer picked-up. We called the company and they directed us to an online form to complete to end the rental. After the form was faxed in we assumed that someone would contact us to schedule the pick up just as they had done for the drop off. Instead, a rude message was left on our answering machine saying that they were there (on our property in the middle of the afternoon) but couldn't pick up the trailer because we still had the lock on it. We live in the city and had left the lock on so that no one would take up residence in an empty trailer. Again, we thought that some one would call us to schedule the pick-up. After the voice mail, we called to schedule the pick-up, but did not get a call back. We did get another rude voice mail that they STILL couldn't get the trailer because they couldn't access the hitch to push it out of the area where we (along with the delivery person) had stored the trailer. We weren't able to move the trailer ourselves because they put a boot on it when they dropped it off. If they had scheduled a pick-up, we would have been there to move the trailer so they could have just taken it. They finally retrieved the trailer after a third attempt. We then were charged not only the pick-up fee but for another month's rent. When we called to have the extra charge removed, the manager at the location argued and provided the worst customer service I have experienced in a while. Both my husband and I talked to the manager separately. The manager said that he would not return the extra month's rent because they had to come out to our house three times and the only way we'd get the money back was if we disputed the charge to our credit card company...which we did. If they had only called to schedule a pick-up. If we or anyone we know need to have an onsite storage trailer/box, I would not recommend Storage on Wheels. The way we were treated at the end of our contract was horrible.

It really,really made our move a lot easier. It meant we only had to load and unload our furnishings once instead of taking them to a storage shed, unloading and reloading again to move to the new house. Actually we rented 5 of these trailers ( we have way too much stuff). I found the personnel very, helpful, friendly and professional. They (especially the manager Matt) went out of their way to get me trailers the same day or the next so I could continue packing without wasted time waiting days for another trailer. We did order one pod and it did not compare to the self storage on wheels at all. It is a lot less expensive to go with self storage on wheels too. The price is by month and depends on the size of the trailer. Each time you move it there is a fee. See their website for prices or call them at 800-962-2500. They were very prompt. Our trailer that was dropped off was absolutely spotless. Their price was excellent. They had the best price compared to other company. They have an online website for billing and other stuff. They were very responsive to phone calls.
