 + -1 moreThe price quoted included new sheet metal venting but the purifier was installed by bending the existing metal to fit. When I asked for an adjustment in the price, since not all all of the work was done, it took several calls to get and quot;I'll have to take a look at it.and quot; No one has and quot;taken a look at itand quot;. It's frustrating, but the lesson learned is not to count on the lowest bid because sometimes you only get what you pay for. In June 2011, after learning of this report, the company returned to do the work that I paid for.

 + -1 moreThe burners and pump of my boiler were ruined in the July 22 flood. New Berlin refused to quote repair. They quoted replacement only. They said that manufacturers were not standing behind equipment damaged by flooding. That is a reasonable stance if it were a forced air furnace, but I have a boiler. (I ultimately had the parts replaced by another firm and the boiler works just fine. I also saved $3000 v. replacement). What is prompting this report is the utter B.S. the quoter gave me. He said that the casement that holds the water that gets heated got wet from the flood. Therefore, it might rust through and I would have a major problem. WHAT? The thing holds water and it will for the next 40 years. I almost told him to leave immediately. He also talked about how the integrity of the unit was compromised by the flood. I didn't buy that either. It's a pretty solid piece of equipment. As noted above, all that was necessary was to replace the damaged parts. If the guy simply stated that the manufacturers were putting contractors in a bind and that they couldn't risk the liability, I would have accepted that. (Apparently, he was wrong because Weil McClain worked with the firm that repaired my boiler.) Instead, he chose to feed me a bunch of B.S.

We can give them a call and the girl at the office schedules and we usually get a two-hour window. They also give us a call to make sure that we are here. They had educated us on the current standards on heating and air conditioning. If our furnace were to die they would recommend us something new instead of trying to repair it. They have a discounted rate for Angie’s List members.

I'm guessing it only took him 20 to 30 minutes to finish his work. Since I've been using the firm between 15 and 20 years I was given a 10% discount.

 + -1 moreOur furnance stopped working on a Thursday for an unknown reason. I contacted New Berlin Heating and arranged for an appt on the following Saturday (during their regular business hours - which is hard to find in a service industry) The employee arrived within the timeframe scheduled and quickly diagnosed the problem and had the replacement part in his truck. He was able to diagnose the problem and repair it within 30 minutes. He was very curtious and knowledgeable.
Description of Work: Repair of furnance (a malfunction of the circuit board was identified and the board replaced).

 + -1 moreWe called and set up an appt. The first available was in a week. They showed up at the appointed time and diagnosed the problem. The part needed was expensive so we opted to order a new Aprilaire ourselves and New Berlin H and AC will come again to install it. The service man was courteous and competent.
Description of Work: We have an Aprilaire Humidifier that wasn't working. The technician diagnosed the problem without much trouble and suggested a solution. Since the unit we have is over 16 years old, we asked if we could order a new Aprilaire and have them install it instead of getting this old one fixed. He said sure and we have ordered a new one from another source and when we get it New Berlin H & AC will install it.

 + -1 moreWe've used them a couple of times. They provide good service and reasonable prices. They are pretty quick. They seemed to be in and out and the air conditioner works. I called them late one afternoon and they were out the next morning and it was really hot then. They came several hours earlier than they were supposed to. They called and said if someone didn't come, they would have to reschedule. They were several hours too early. The air conditioner is 15 years old. They said it wouldn't last more than a year or two longer.

 + -1 moreVery poorly.. please read above. My biggest regret is I did not upfront tell the company that I was a member of Angies List. I usually tell both the person I set the appointment with and then again with the technician. This time I didn't do either and it cost me $74.00. I think the economoy was hurting them in late January and business was slow. Because of this they wanted to sell me a furnace immediately? Maybe Mike is on commission? I don't know but I'm glad I never have to call them again.
Description of Work: Update 9/2010 Original furnace still running great... A scam artist named Mike Motil who is a technician from New Berlin Heating and Air Conditioning in New Berlin diagnosed the problem with my furnace from six feet away without even looking at it. I called the company because I wanted someone to service my Aprilaire humidifier that is installed on my furnace. When he got to my house I went downstairs with him and before even examining it he said he couldn't work on my Apirlaire because I needed a new furnace. He came up with this diagnosis by looking at my furnace. He said that he was familiar with my neighborhood (all the homes are just about 20 years old) and that he could tell my furnace was original. When I looked at him and said, "What.. you can tell I need a new furnace before even examining it or looking at it? Although Mike seemed irritated with my inquiry he turned the unit off and the furnace made a real low clicking sound (that it's made for the last 9 years that I've lived here) He said, "See, do you hear that? That sound tells me your furnace as a defective heat exchanger. Without question, my furnace is 20 years old and I am sure at the end of it's life span but there is no technician that can diagnose a problem standing next to me five feet away from the furnace. Mike said the noise we were were hearing was because I had a crack in the heat exchanger. Keep in mind that he hadn't even pulled off the hood of the furnace before coming up with this diagnosis. I got a second opinion who said, "you can't even see the heat exchanger and that the furnace seemed to be working fine." I was very surprised that Mike was very adamant about the fact that I needed a new furnace. I was very surprised that he said that at any time my family (if you can imagine) could die of carbon monoxide poisoning which prompted me to run over to Home depot to pick up $120.00 of carbon monoxide testers that I have plugged into outlets throughout my house. Remember: I didn't ask for a tune up of my furnace... All I wanted is for him and his company to service my Aprilaire because they had their sticker on it. It was very upsetting at the end of our meeting when he turned my furnace off and said, "Sir, I cannot work on your furnace at all at this time or your Aprilaire because your furnace is not running/working properly." He said something about the State requires that he turn the unit off before leaving and that I can turn it on at my own risk after he leaves. I was very upset with the way I was treated by Mike and New Berlin Heating and Air Conditioning. It is my opinion that his tactics probably work on a regular basis when he put's fear into your mind. I was very close to caving in but decided to cut my losses, cut him his $74.00 five minute service call and then get him the heck out of my house. I would never, ever, ever, ever use this business. It's unfortuanate, because I've had them over before to service my furnace and Aprilaire and have never had a problem before this.

 + -1 moreI had scheduled an appointment to have a service technician arrive Thursday, November 6th, between 10 AM and noon. I had to reschedule that appointment because my dog had a painful ear and the only time I could get in to the vet was 10 AM that day. Kelly was very understanding and said she could reschedule my appointment to 1 PM that same day. The tech arrived on time and immediately began working. She noticed that the drain hose from my high efficient furnace was beginning to clog with sitting water and algae. She pointed out that if the hose became blocked and water backed up into the furnace, it would shut off and I would not have any heat. All I have to do is pour bleach water in the hose once or twice a year and that will keep everything flowing. She said everything was working fine and that I do not need servicing every year until the furnace is about 10 years old. Every other year is fine, as long as I change the filter as required. Monica was professional and very pleasant to talk with. Later this evening my neighbor called to ask why the red truck had been in front of my house. He is looking for a company to clean his two furnaces, and I highly recommended New Berlin Heating and Air Conditioning.

 + -1 moreAfter interviewing four potential contractors, we recognized that only New Berlin had a real grasp on how the new equipment could relate to our current furnace, and while they were not necessarily the lowest price, they definitely displayed more expertise than the others. From the day we signed the contract with Dave Vigout, they stuck to the agreed upon schedule, showed up on time, worked with us on the placement of the new unit (much bigger than the old one!) and completed the job the same day. Clean up and removal were excellent. Plus, there were three rebates we were eligible for and their office staff completed and submitted all the forms for us. Just great service!
Description of Work: New Berlin replaced our old air conditioning compressor with a state of the art Carrier Infinity Heat Pump/Compressor, new thermostat and air filtering system.

 + -1 moreKenny came out, verified it was blower, picked up new one and replaced it. This took less than 2 hours. Temp was still 41 degrees F; Tried to tell him that thermostat was not reading the correct function, that when it was not holding the "set" temp that the furnace would not stay running. He felt it was okay and said to call if problems, and left. Half hour later furnace would not stay running, called office and Mike came out. Mike tried to tell me that it was the thermostat. Advised him that sometimes if I "burp" the condensate line I can get it to run. Mike looked over line, re-adjusted line (shortened it which prevented water sitting in line and backing up) and the furnace RAN!!!!! By the way....it takes a day and a half to get a house with 1800 sq feet to raise from 41 F to a more livable temp of 70!!! Never replaced thermostat and Mike was just here for fall check up. Things look good.
Description of Work: In February furnace quit, of course during a cold snap. Came home from work and my kids were complaining no heat. Called many services but many would not service as emergency because not previous customer. Neighbor recommended NB heating and called. Agreed with on call tech that would make more sense to get thru night (brrrr) and have them out in AM when parts were available, as it seemed to be blower that went out.

 + -1 moreExcellent. Justin arrived on time and listened to my complaint. He heard noise coming from one heating vent and told me the flapper was vibrating. He opened the vent slightly and the noise went away. He also checked all other ducts and adjusted each one as necessary to remove all vibrating noise. Justin was very professional, yet friendly. He actively listened to my concerns and did not stop until HE was satisfied that everything was just the way I needed it to be. This company had installed my furnace and central air conditioning unit in December, 2005 and both units have worked beautifully and effectively. When I called for an appointment, I did not ask the cost of a service call. I do, however, feel the cost was well worth it.
