 + -1 moreFlat Rate said since there was no access to the drains, they needed to remedy that by cutting an access point in a drain by the bathroom. They cleaned the roots and showed how much came out of the pipes. A few monthss later, we had the same issue and called them back. We were charged for another cleaning. A couple of days later, the basement was back-uped again. This time the owner came and said that we needed to have all our pipes replaced. He wanted us to agree to ripping up the entire basement floor and replacing all the pipes on the spot for $5,000+. It took over 30 minutes to get him out of the house after we told him we weren't doing it and wanted another opinion. We called Roto Rooter because they will run a camera through the pipes and see if there are any obstructions or damaged pipes. It turned out that Flat Rate never went all the way throught the pipes. Roto Rooter finished the job and only charged $175. It was a costly lesson.
Description of Work: I called Flat Rate Plumbing when my basement was backed up because of tree roots. It was later in the day and I couldn't get ahold of any other plumbers.

 + -1 moreI would never use them again. It was a Friday in the late evening. We had an issue with putting a new faucet in. The tile was going in the next day. We had to call someone to come right away. We couldn't get any of the regular local plumbers or it would have cost a crazy amount of money. We called this place. I could not remember the name of the man that came. The office was nice and said they would be right out. The plumber had been drinking. He did a good job, I will say that, but it was obvious that he had been drinking. I stayed in the bathroom and he admitted that he was an alcoholic and told his wife that he wasn't drinking anymore. He made a point of mentioning that I was going to pay to much for his work and he would have to charge me for every tiny little piece. He did actually do a good job. He was patient and never got grumpy because it was a Friday and he wanted to go home. It's not a good thing to rip apart your employer while you are working.
Description of Work: We have used Flat Rate Plumbing/Flat Rate Heating & Air Conditioning. We were remodeling our bathroom and came into an issue with the plumbing.

 + 0 moreThey are way over priced. They charge you so much knowing you will not call them back. They are very dishonest and I do not trust them. They put stickers up all over my home advertising their company. They charged me just under $400.00 to clean out a drain.

 + 0 moreMy 2-1/2 year old water heater from Home Depot sprung a leak. My husband was going out of town, and I needed a plumber quickly.To make a long story short, I called Flat Rate Plumbing. They quoted me $3200 for a 40-gallon, gravity-flow hot water heater. This would include taking out my old one and venting it through the basement wall. If I didn't agree to this price, they would charge me a "trip charge" and $500 to remove my old water heater which was still leaking. I was between a rock and a hard place, so I agreed. I found out later that Home Depot should have referred me to their installer when I called. They could have switched out my hot water heater for free. I WOULD NEVER THINK OF USING FLAT RATE PLUMBING FOR ANYTHING and I hope no one else does either. They take full advantage of a woman alone. As a follow up, Home Depot has been wonderful. They gave me almost $2,000 for my trouble.

 + -1 moreTerrible - employee was unprofessional. Work was not done correctly and charges were at least four times what other plumbers would charge for the job.
Description of Work: I was getting a new gas stove delivered and needed a gas shut off valve on my kitchen gas pipe and a connector for the stove (which I supplied) attached. The phone estimate was their "flat rate" plus about $75. The worker was very unprofessional and tried to engage me in a very heated conversation about his political beliefs. He billed me for over $500 and I was afraid to challenge him at the time, partly because of his previous ranting about social issues. The connection he put on was the wrong size. I talked many times to the office to get a fairer price for the work, and ended up going through my credit card company's dispute process.

Description of Work: What a rip off , 2 guys came late , just to estimate and tear a hole in the ceiling . They told me it would take all day to fix, but it only took 1 guy 1 1/2 hours . They charged me for the 2 guys estimating, the drain cleaning( 600.00 ). these guys tried to sell me furnace repair, and drywall . They wanted me to pay 1500.00 to repair the 2" hole they made. They were totally unprofessional , and talked to me as if I didn't understand anything. They exaggerated the work they had to do . Were they like this because myself and the tenants there were women? Watch out !

 + -1 moreIt went excellent. Noticed sewer back up and call another plumbing company. They came out spent 4 hours and still did not resolve the problem, once they left I had to find some one else to complete the project. I filled out a appointment form on their web page, and with in 2 mins I have not 1 but 2 calls, getting the details and scheduling a time for the repair. Their service was excellent especially seeing I sent the e-mail at 11:00 PM. They comitted they would send someone out first thing in the morning. At 8;30 he arrived and was completely finished by 10. They are an excellenct service provider, I will use them again, and suggest them to other. They deliver excellent customer service.
Description of Work: Sewer back up / drain cleaning. We had a backed up sewer drain in the basement that needed to be cleaned to release the blockages to stop the sewer back up

Description of Work: This was a complete rip off !!!!!!!!! I made an appointment to repair a jammed garbage disposal, the leaking trap in a bathroom and replace a washer at the kitchen sink faucet. Poor listening skills resulting in the appointment beginning with three extra phone calls and an additional 25 minutes. When they arrived, came into the house without protective footgear, immediately began to try and sell me a new garbage disposal before even looking at the existing one... out came a price book- one guy trying to convince me to spend $450.+ for a garbage disposal while the other one wanted me to find him a bucket , then newspaper, then helped himself to my paper towel. For $115.00 called "diagnostics", he took the garbage disposal out, laid it on it's side and the then doubled teamed me trying to get me to buy a new one.. all the used car salesmen phrases- it wa really awful. I just kept saying no- had them put it back in. Upstairs, only the pop up on the sink needed replacement as it had a 'crack'- these parts cost $25.00 to the upscale Kohler brushed nickel of $65.00. They charged me over $300.00 !!! I was so upset, just wanted them out of my house- didn't re-mention the washer- and so I went downstairs to write the check when I heard the toilet flush- one of them had 'helped himself to my bathroom and then insult to injury- the other one went back upstairs and did too- disgustingly leaving the toilet seat up and leaving the house with my money in his hot little hand without even a good bye. It was a horrible experience - a total and complete rip off !!!! NEVER AGAIN !

 + -1 moreThe installers were fine, but the furnace itself was very junky looking. It was put together with duct tape and this was my second furnace with this company. I had one previously put in around 1995. The furnace didn't work very well. I had them out last Spring and I wanted to ask about the problem it was having starting. It would make weird noises and even vibrate rooms on the next floor up sometimes. The guy claimed nothing was wrong with it, but claimed he would look around for some new parts. It really seemed like this particular service guy was trying to sell me a lot of different things. I didn't really appreciate that. One of them was an air cleaner, which I told him I didn't want installed, but found it as a large price on the bill when it came in.
Description of Work: My basement flooded and they installed a new furnace for me.

 + -1 moreYou know? I can understand every plumber on this night, their phone's were ringing off the hook. However, one thing I can not understand is that you call, tell them your problem and the response is this. "We'll be there shortly". There version of "shortly" means several hours as we had findly found out after being strung along. What schmucks and idiots. Doing business this way to me is unforgivable, rude and a crock of crap. I hate liars and people who deceive. I'd personally stay away from people like this. I can't recommend them, even given the circumstances. The ONLY thing that they did right was answer their phone and NOT hide behind it like the rest would do. Now if they'd just be more forthright. Wow. What's this country coming to?
Description of Work: We phoned in the midst of the torrential rains we had in the entire Milwaukee area. No one will forget this date. 8" in two hours. We needed serious help. We just wanted a higher powered jet pump to evacuate this water filling our sump pit that our 3/4 hp Wayne pump was barely keeping up with. No chance of getting one at any tool rental place after 9 pm. That's for sure. We bailed out water using 5 gals. buckets to aid it. It worked until the water in flow decreased.

 + 0 moreThey are very quick to respond initially, there was a large delay leading to getting the parts on site then the real sting came with the bill. I called other companies in the area who stated that they would do the same job for nearly $1000 less which really stings.
Description of Work: I have a mound septic system in my front yard and the pump for this system had stopped running causing the tanks to fill. I called FlatRate because their number was on top of the system. They sent someone over at first to trouble shoot the problem and determined the pump had stopped running. Through several delays they finally replaced the pump at a much higher cost than other local companies that do the same work. To top it off, one year later the same problem happened again but this time I figured out that the pump in deed had not failed it was the limit switch on the septic system that was causing the problem. It makes me wonder if I spent $2200 to have a pump replaced that was still good because of their recommendation. Needless to say I have removed all FlatRate stickers with their phone number from my property. I do not want anyone making this mistake again.

 + -1 moreAbsolutely HORRIBLE experience!! First, they were late. I was told they would be there between 8 and 10 and they arrived at 11:30 and didn't even call to tell us they were running behind. We just needed a simple repair to hook-up a new washer and they started with a quote that was over $2,000!! They said they needed to replace everything and bring it all up to Code (all we needed was to replace the hoses from the washer to the stationary tub, that is it!) The individual was rude and was calling others saying we had "water drama" going on as my husband and I were trying to discuss the quote. We said thanks for the quote, but we weren't interested and then the price started dropping! In the end, he cam down to $1,800, but we would have to do our own haul away. Again, we said thanks, but no thanks. We paid the trip fee and then joined Angie's list! We had someone else come out and fix the problem the same day for less than $100!! My advice, shop around!

 + -1 moreThe estimate was 1481.65; that was 500 dollars more than the company I chose. They are trying to charge me hundreds of dollars for two twenty dollar valves. I could go to a hardware store and get the same valve for ten to twenty dollars and then the permit is suppose to be twenty dollars and they tried to charge me 67.65 for the same permit.

 + -1 moreThey do good work, but they are extremely expensive. They did all of the work before telling us what it would cost. I've talked to another plumber who said it should have cost half as much. I think that they try to oversell.
Description of Work: They replaced an in-sink-erator garbage disposal, put new faucets and handles on the kitchen sink, and put a new drain mechanism in hot tub along with some handles and faucets. They also replaced some handles on bathroom sinks.

 + -1 moreFlat rate came out the same day I called (a Sunday)and diagnosed the problem. They replaced the furnace the next day (Monday). The repair work required new duct work, new thermostat, and new circuit. All was fixed the same day, but the duct work which was finished 4 days later, but it was temporarily usable.
Description of Work: Replaced old gas furnace with 2-stage high (90%) efficiency furnace, repaired duct work and put in venting, sheet metal work, gas pipe, electronic air filter, new thermostat, and new and separate electrical circuit for the furnace. All old parts and pieces were removed and the area fully cleaned.

 + -1 moreAn absolute nightmare. I called them as a backup plan to the plumber I originally called. I gave the guy at Flat Rate my info and he said it would be 39.00 to do a service call and the plumber would give me an estimate. I said I would call them back after I got to work. I got a call at work from my wife and she said Flat Rate called to say they were on their way. By the time I got home they were completed with the job. I asked the guy what he did and he told me and proceeded to give me a bill for 952.44 for an hours work. After they left I found out that my wife did not get an estimate from them, and did not say it was o.k to go ahead with the work. I talked to the owner 3 times (same guy who did the work) and he finally brought the bill down to 639.00. I had no choice but to accept. The work done was o.k. but I feel we were TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF AND GROSSLY OVERCHARGED. I WILL NEVER USE THIS COMPANY AGAIN.
Description of Work: I had the sewer in my basement back up. From the work order: ''clear under floor drain thru pvc 4'' stack at laundry to front'' ''clean sewer thru front c.o to city connection '' 1 house pack of bio clean''.

 + -1 moreI called them thinking that the "flat rate" would save me money. Was I wrong!! It cost me nearly 400 hundred dollars to unclog a sink, the work took him 15 minutes. Would never use them again. The sink was unclogged but the price was extreme.

 + -1 moreI was not happy with the pressure that they put on us. They were going to dig up the whole front lawn, without really evaluating the problem. After that we got a second opinion through Heiden Plumbing (GREAT company, by the way!). They put a camera in and evaluated the situation and didn't have to dig as much. They did what needed to be done and were honest and very efficient. They were out the next day digging and the problem was settled. Oh yeah and it was $12,000 less than the quote from Flat Rate. I am glad I did not use them.
Description of Work: Our drain clogged on a Saturday. We called them and they were able to come out. However, they charged us $500 to try to snake it, which took less than an hour. He said that they would need to dig up the lawn from the house to the road. Then, told us it would be a minimum of $20,000. The plumber tried to pressure us into setting them up to dig on Monday. He said they were the only ones that could do this. He then proceeded to tell us other things in our basement that were out of code (supposedly), which we now found out were not.
