We need a new roof and contacted several contractors based on on-line reviews as well as neighbor references. Doug was the last roofer we contacted and was very responsive. He did a great job of explaining our options, his roofing products and process. His pricing was competitive. We have a 1600 sq ft ranch house with a 2.5 car attached garage, hip roof. Yesterday the team arrive early and they finished the job by mid afternoon. What an awesome crew. I would highly recommend that you talk to Doug if you need a new roof or siding.

We are happy you are pleased with the final outcome. We think your home now looks stunning. Admittedly, correcting long standing problems in your gutter/Roof interface was a challenge but the outcome should be an extra benefit for years. We apologize that the mess was a problem early on. We did use a dumpster but did want to recycle the aluminum. We did provide a new glass block window for your bathroom without charge, I had hoped that would be a nice gesture. I apologize you feel we let you down. But again, I think your house is amazing.

We signed a winter contract on 12/9/16 with work to be completed by 3/15/17. The weather cooperated so the job was started on 12/28/16 and totally completed by 12/29/16. The crew was extremely diligent and efficient. As the roofing crew completed their part, the gutter installers were right behind them. Both crews cleaned up the debris making sure they found every bit of waste. We would not hesitate to hire Evansen again and would certainly recommend them highly to anyone. Thank you, Doug, for such great service. It is most refreshing to find someone who truly cares about his customers.

Most houses on our road had to replace roofs this summer and fall due to hail damage. We admired the job this company did for a neighbor. Did an excellent job. Excellent quality materials used . The crew works efficiently and they put in a long day. They finish promply. They discovered a soft spot in our roof , tore it out and replaced. I was grateful we were working with a local, quality company that didn't just cover it up, as we were unaware of any problems. Our roof looks so great our neighbors are getting an estimate from this company too. Very good clean up.

We decided to go with Evansen Builders because of the knowledge of both the Owner (Doug) and that of his Crew supervisor Tom. When Tom came over to do the initial inspection of the roof not only did he get up on the roof, checked the crawl space attic for leakage and mold but pulled pieces of our soufa off. We found that whoever installed the soufa never cut ventilation holes in the the wood to ventilate the attic. he took me outside and showed me. Upon examining the crawl space attic, it was also shown to me that the four roof vents where not really cut through!. We had had two other contractors that did not even get up on the roof and none game inside to check for leaks and mold! Two days after Tom's inspection, Doug came over and told me additional things about roofing, lifespan and staining caused by overhanging trees. I showed him the leaking gutter also and he had a plan to correct it (which worked!) He also suggested removing the very ugly 4 aluminium box vents and going with a roof length vent. We also installed zinc strips to help with any roof staining. We were undecided on shingle color and Doug dropped up two samples of actual shingle so we could decided between them. About a week before our roof was to be installed, Tom came out and cut the ventilation holes. The complete install including tear off only took a day and a half. His crew was very nice, answered questions and cleaned up everything when they were through. Tom came a few days later to install the zine strips and check the workmanship. Doug followed up promptly with an itemized bill and temporary warranty paperwork . Full Owen Corning Warranty being mailed. I highly recommend Evansen Builder for you roofing and gutter needs. They did everything correctly. they answered all questions promptly and they were a pleasure to work with. I got up on the roof to see for myself and everything look great, the roof, flashing, vent all neatly installed, even using the matching color chalk for sealing the flashing. Our roof looks great and we have had people pass by to comment on how nice it looks!

In the living room we had a leak. and Evansen Builders finally got it to stop. They were good. They were here when they said they were going to be. It was just because it was cold weather and they couldn't do the Atlanta stone part until it got warm enough so they came and waited, they had already told us it was going to be awhile because it needed to be 40 degrees or something before they can do it. They were nice and the owner was pretty good, he did what he said he was going to do.

I called Evansen Builders just before the 4th of July. I was anxious to get an estimate because I noticed some water damage on an inside wall. Doug Evansen came out the same day. I had already obtained a few estimates, but his was very competitive and significantly lower than the two highest bids. I was also impressed by Doug's thoroughness. For instance, he was the only contractor who said he would put a sealer on the irregular stone chimney. He thought the chimney might be the cause of my water damage, so he took extra care to make sure the chimney and flashing was watertight. I wanted to eliminate the mushroom vents and install the roof vent, but we didn't have any soffit vents that we would need to ensure adequate air flow. Doug was willing to install the soffit vents when most of the other contractors advised me to just keep the mushroom vents. Doug's team did the soffit work first (before the roofing work), and when the color we picked for the soffits, gutters and downspouts didn't match the existing soffits well, he called and asked if we wanted to make a different choice. We did, and he arranged to have the soffits painted to match. Wayne and the rest of the roofing crew came on time. They were professional, courteous, and efficient. They tore off two layers of roof, replaced some plywood, did needed chimney work, and installed the new roof and vents in a day and a half. The crew put all of the old roofing directly into the dumpster--not on the ground, so none of the plants surrounding the house were damaged. They ?swept? the area with a magnet for any stray nails and did not leave any debris. The next day, a different crew came to replace all the gutters and downspouts. They were also very professional, courteous, and neat. They did a beautiful job in just a few hours. Doug was very good about returning my calls when I had any questions. I would (and already have) highly recommend Evensen Builders to anyone who needs a new roof.
Description of Work: Evansen Builders tore off two layers of shingles, replaced some plywood decking, installed new soffit vents, replaced roof with high dimensional shingles, tuck pointed some joints and applied a sealer on the chimney, replaced the chimney flashing, connected a bathroom fan to duct work and installed roof vent for it, and replaced all the gutters and downspouts.

When Doug came to give the proposal it went OK. He was the lowest bid out of 5 companies we got proposals from. He was surprised we knew about and asked for the roof to be done in accordance with the GAF Golden Pledge Warranty. Before the job he was responsive both by phone and email. On the day of the job he never called us. Some woman was the one we were in contact with. Most of the roof was completed the first day but the woman said they'd be back the next day with a few more shingles and to repair a little trim on the porch roof that was messed up. The flashing was not completed that day. Next day the shingles were done, trim was not repaired. We were not told when the flashing would be done. Had to call to find out. Some other guy did the flashing but that took over a week. He worked for 2 days then left his equipment in our backyard and I had to call to find out when he'd finish. The communication once the job started was horrible. There was no check in the day of and Doug did not answer calls. The gutters were done the day after the roof and those went fine. The roof looks fine. The repair on the porch the woman told us they messed up was never taken care of. Overall, yes, our roof was cheaper but the communication and professionalism left something to be desired.
Description of Work: Evansen performed a complete tear-off of 2 layers of shingles plus the original cedar-shake. They re-decked and put down a new roof. We also had our gutters replaced. We requested the Golden Pledge Warranty from GAF and the work was to be done in accordance to those specifications.

The GAF Golden Pledge warranty is the best, most comprehensive, most thorough warranty that a consumer can purchase re a roofing installation. It even involves the Factory sending an inspector to inspect the roof when it is finished. GAF will warranty the WORKMANSHIP for 25 years so they inspect thoroughly. (50 years also labor and material) Only about a dozen or so roofers in southern WI are qualified to issue one. We are one of them. When the GAF inspector came out to the rate our installation on Dec 6, 2012, he gave the installation the highest score possible, a perfect 10.0. ( ten point 0) This means that he found nothing wrong, nothing needed to be adjusted or changed; the nothing was short of 100% in a 40 point inspection. The job was perfect by the manufacturer's standards. Clearly our crews perform. It has been our nearly 20 year proven way of doing business that installations go best with a foreman or crew leader being the primary contact person if the homeowner has any questions. This only makes sense. People at the job site are in direct contact with what is happening can speak to what is happening, where the office is remote. The person to whom was referred to as "some woman" was actually Heather, one of our forewoman. She was the crew leader. Heather and her crew have done over 750 projects for us over the last 5 years. She is a highly experienced person to talk to about one's roofing project. As all our foreman are. These communication channels work for us, normally. I can't recall a complaint like this one. RE the flashing work. This was extra work NOT on our contract with the member and NOT required for the Golden Pledge warranty! It is not listed on the original scope of work we agreed to. When the roof was being done we observed that the gap between the siding and roof was going to be significant and the condition of it at that juncture was rough and full of old caulk and rippled. As the older roofs were peeled away, even our new step flashing inserted into this gap, though functional and watertight, would not give the good appearance that we would want on our own home. (yes this is the golden rule) This extra covering we installed on all these areas, including the front porch area, the dormer side walls, over the rear door hood, and any other places that needed it. We even put it over the sills of the bank of windows on the south side because they were so rusty looking. We also re-tacked and refastened loose aluminum fascia. This unsightly condition was very apparent at the front porch/siding interface and I believe this is when Heather made the decision to cover these areas. We procured Tom from other work in progress as he is skilled with a metal brake; but because he did have to come and go a little it did take a week or so. But we never thought this was going to become an objection as it was actually "charitable" work. Tom's metal work was "mint" that he did on the house. He also responded to a request the member's husband made to Douglas by telephone. The member's husband wanted us to check the soffits, because even though they had a number of perforated panels, he was not sure if the wood behind them was actually opened. Tom checked and they were not opened, so we opened them, This took time and effort and should of been paid for. Since this was the first contact we had with the husband in this entire project, and he was not at the contract interviews to give any input, we were never able to hear any of his concerns like this soffit issue until late in the project, so of course it was not built into the contract price. But we did it cheerfully anyway. But speaking of Mr. we found no problem with communication. He was reachable at his office for several calls and he met me promptly at the house for payment. He did not speak of any unfinished work when I met him at the job for final payment, even though we looked at the insulation in the attic and talked of the job. If there was this undone "mess" still needed at the porch, why was I never informed of it by anyone? And why was not Tom when he was there for a few days told of it, or even better, shown it? I know the member was home and spoke to him one word at least once. And why did not the inspector notice it? If it was part of the roof the inspector would have. And if it was a blemish in the aluminum fascia, Tom would of been more than happy to replace it IF he would of been asked. (so he would know of it) Because that is what he was doing, fixing aluminum! We aim to please. This is not difficult. I am not sure whose communication was at fault, mine or the member's. Bottom line I feel the inspection PROVES the work was an A. I feel our price being the lowest of 5 including re-decking with plywood (which I called GAF on the homeowners behalf to receive guidance in her situation as none of the others were doing it and I thought it should) was an A. I think our attitude in voluntarily going above and beyond was an A. The member received a sterling result with a sterling warranty with good service at a discounted price.
Evansen builders did my roof and gutters back in 1996. I had quoted at least 10 companies and after meeting again with the top 3 contenders, Evansen was chosen. I felt that Evansen was the most knowledgeable and explained exactly what I needed and why. I was fully convinced that they were the correct one to do the job. The price was very competitive as well. Their crew was here when promised and worked quickly. They only tore off what they could replace the same day so the roof was never left left unprotected. They came on the second day and completed the job. They did a very good job cleaning up as well. Last year I decided to have windows put in and the chimney needed rebuilt. I again quoted a number of contractors including Evansen. Evansen was extremely competitive and in fact they made a recommendation to a change to the chimney that saved me additional dollars. They were awarded the windows and chimney. Again they arrived to rebuild the chimney when promised, worked quickly and did a good job of cleaning up when done. I could not be more pleased the results. The windows Evansen recommended were rated as the top window by a national independant testing company. They were installed and trimmed out beautifully. We have enjoyed them for almost a year and they have made a huge difference in our comfort and energy efficiency. We were amazed at how quiet the rooms are as well with the new windows. I highly recommend Evansen.

Evansen Builders also provided services to help us file an insurance claim because the prior shingles on the roof prematurely failed. Our pastor and his wife were pleased since the place was immaculate after they left. My pastors wife commented that they even picked up nails that the previous roofer failed to remove. The roof and gutters went exceptionally well. There was an issue where the provider of the dumpster for the roofing waste left a huge gouge in our black top driveway. Very frustrating. Representative that measured, provided quotation and managed and inspected the overall job was responsive, knowledgeable, punctual. He was great in helping me apply for the warranty from the previous roofing material manufacturer. Quotation was the best I received (out of four). The choice of materials / manufacturer, warranty and timing of installation were all very acceptable to me. Dumpster and crew arrived on time and the work was almost completely finished in one day. Clean-up was good and I even saw workers on their hands and knees looking for scraps and nails. New roof looks great and the representative inspected it promptly and even returned to discuss one minor question I had. I have had three good experiences now with this provider. I will use them in the future if I need additional outside work.
Description of Work: They quoted on a new roof with complete tear-off of previous two roofs. Last roof failed after only about 12 years (partially covered under manufacturers warranty. I have used Evansen before for gutters, facia, sofits and also for the last roof. Failure of the last roof was due to manufacturers defect, not Evansen workmanship).

This was a great experience from start to finish. We had four estimates on replacing the roof on our house and attached garage. While the other companies seemed competent not one of them other than Earl at Evansen mentioned to us that our shingles were defective and the subject of a class action suit. Earl went out of his way to help us get the claim information and then assisted us in preparing the form. He took the required pictures of our roof and pulled two shingles for us to submit with the claim as samples. He did all of this without knowing he was going to get the job. So, we went with Evansen not only because of the help with the claim but because they had the best price. Earl quoted the job three months before we signed. When he came to get the contract signed we had found a coupon for $250 off in the Angie's monthly magazine. Earl applied it without blinking. That really made the price great. We signed the contract on 9/9/2011, the shingles were delivered on 9/14/2011 and the crew showed up on 9/15/2011 to do the work. It was amazing, the guys worked like crazy. They started at 7 a.m. and were finished by 5 p.m. Everything left nice and clean. The only complaint we had was that they threw a perfectly good piece of plywood in the dumpster which they should have asked me if I wanted. I hate waste. Earl came the next day to inspect the job and answered all of our questions regarding the claim and the new roof. Don't believe that "F" report. This guy is nice, helpful and honest. I would highly recommend Evansen Builders. When we have our siding replaced they will be the first one we call.

I had Earl from Evansen Builders come out for an estimate on a new roof and gutters. After he examined the house and explained his services, he scribbled a "rough estimate" (a couple of prices) on a blank contract. When I informed him that I was an Angies List member and expected the discount they had advertised, his face turned white. After hemming and hawing, he told me he'd honor the discount. I called repeatedly to get an actual contract to sign. When he finally provided a real printed document detailing the work, it omitted the new gutters and had an incorrect price. Repeated attempts to contact him by phone and email were unsuccessful. Now that most contractors are aware of Angies List, I usually wait for them to produce a written estimate before asking them for whatever Angies List deal they claim to be offering. That way, they cannot simply increase their base price to factor in the discount, and then make a big production about the deal they're supposedly giving you. Apparently, I caught Evansen by surprise, and they really didn't want my business at the price they would have to do it for. So much for their Angies List discount.

Response from Evansen Builders LLC
We make customer service our first priority at Evansen Builders. As you can see from our other reports from Angie’s List members, we are successful at providing quality workmanship and a positive experience for our customers. With that said, we regret we did not meet this customer’s expectations. There seems to have been some confusion regarding the coupon we are offering on Angie’s List. This customer requested that we honor a 10% off coupon offer. Since Evansen does not offer a 10% coupon on Angie’s List, we were, as the member states, caught off guard. Even though the 10% discount was not an offer we had ever published, we agreed we would honor it in this instance. We regret that this customer’s recollection of his encounter with Evansen Builders was not overwhelmingly positive. We appreciate this feedback and are using it as an opportunity to grow and get better. As with any great company, we constantly strive to grow and improve at what we do. While we were not given the opportunity to perform work on this member’s home, we still welcome the opportunity to provide this member with the same overwhelmingly positive experience all of our other Angie’s List customers have received. Please see all of our other great Angie’s List reports for additional feedback regarding our quality of work and commitment to quality customer service.

I was extremely pleased with the roof and gutter work that was done. I had 5 estimates and picked Evansen because of their attitude and price. They were happy to answer all the many questions that I had. They came when they said they would, did excellent work and cleaned up beautifully. The workers were pleasant and professional. I did have a problem with the gutters at first because I felt they were not installed properly. I called Doug Evansen the next morning and 45 MINUTES LATER, a different gutter crew appeared. Then about 1/2 HOUR LATER, Doug Evansen showed up and told the new workers to fix the problem and not to leave until I was completely satisfied. How's that for service! The problem was corrected and I am very happy. The other thing is that I have prized raspberry bushes along side of my house and asked that they be protected. Instead of tarps, they used pieces of plywood that they leaned against the house. This completely protected the raspberries and not one was harmed. I would recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: I had a complete roof tear-off and replacement of my house and free standing garage. I also had all of the gutters replaced.
