They came out right away. They were much more willing to make a minor repair rather than replacing it. The lady I spoke with on the phone diagnosed the issue correctly and got it fixed in the same day.
Description of Work: They made repairs (broken spring) on my garage door. My car was trapped.

They were professional and they seemed to know what they were doing. They were very neat and cleaned up. It was done right the first time and didn't need to be redone.
Description of Work: They installed a new garage door. It was a double overhead garage door. They removed the old one and disposed of it for me.

The small wheels in the tracks of one of our overhead garage doors were sticking when opening/closing, which resulted in it re-opening sometimes and the garage door then being left open Several of the wheels were found to be worn and thus not rolling properly, resulting in the jerky movement and sticking. I called Blando Door and someone got back to me right away, we set up an appointment, And they arrived when they said they would. Once the problem was diagnosed, the small wheels were replaced, all four of the tracks for both doors were lubricated, and any other adjustments were made to both doors, all on this one service call. The two garage door openers were also checked for proper operation. In addition, Mr. Blando welcomed two friendly Labradors who were very interested in meeting him. They both enjoyed the attention he paid them (especially his finding just the right spot behind their ears...). As a new Angie's List member a year or so ago, Blando Door installed the automatic garage door openers mentioned above. That, too, was an A-1 experience - both in terms of value, and efficiency and friendliness of performance. So I'm including that service call in this report, too. And I will call them again anytime I need related work done. Good people!

It took approximately 2 1/2 hours to replace all the parts. The service man was extremely nice, explained what he wanted to do and why. All parts were replaced, everything lubed and the door actually opens better than it has in the six years that I have owned the house. This was a good experience and an example of how Angie's List takes the guess work out of hiring someone. Thank you, Blando, for the great job at a fantastic price!
Description of Work: A torsion spring snapped after I got home from work and put my car into the garage. I couldn't get the door open manually so came to Angie's List to find out who deals with fixing garage doors. I found Blando and noticed the great ratings so gave them a call. They were one of few companies that list 24/7 service. Connie answered the phone, was very friendly and set up an appointment with me for early the next morning. The service man, sorry can't remember his name, arrived, took a look at the problems and informed me that he should do more than just replace the springs. Since the house is older, garage doors are no longer installed in the way mine was so wasn't comfortable doing the job improperly. He wanted to replace the springs, drums, cables...well, just about everything except for the track, door and door opener. He called Connie to get a price and I was more than pleasantly surprised to hear him give me a price of $245 for everything.

Price was a little higher than I expected BUT since I haven't done anything for awhile and probably won't have to for another several years and he was good and fast and very nice and it was fun talking to an adult. The price was actually worth it to me.
Description of Work: Since they replaced my original wooden garage door and opener four years ago, I called to make an appointment for a non-emergency servicing of my garage door. Been four years since a tune-up and the light wasn't working in the overhead --which has been going on for a year but just getting around to it now. Left message as no one was there but they called back the same day and made the appointment for three or four days later. The service technician arrived promptly when promised. He knew what the problem was with the light, actually I was kind of embarrassed that it was so simple. Fixed it, adjusted and lubed the door so that it runs seamlessly and less noisily. Took him about ten minutes; then we had a very nice chat about neighbors and such.

They were called during a busy time and weren't able to come out immediately. The first visit, the technician had difficulty getting the door open. Came back a few days later with help and opened the door. They were very thorough in making everything work. After installing everything, went through how to set up the openers and made sure that it ran smoothly. After the initial problems were resolved, the work went smoothly.
Description of Work: The garage door motor seized up as it was opening up the door. The first person who came out had trouble getting the door open. Came back in a few days with help and they were able to get the door open. Replaced the garage door opening unit and realigned the door guides and adjusted the springs.

Better than expected. This was an emergency for me and they didn't take advantage of the situation by charging me extra for the immediate service they provided. They are just nice, honest people. I had never used them before, but if I ever have any garage door needs, they'll be my first and only phone call.
Description of Work: A torsion spring snapped and I couldn't open my garage door. Both cars were inside the garage and I had to pick up my children in three hours. I called Blando and explained the situation to Connie. She quoted me a price (225) and said a technician would come within three hours. An hour and a half later, Kevin arrived, replaced both torsion springs, lubed the moving parts of my garage door, and all was well. Like Connie, he was warm, courteous, and took care of the situation. My bill was less than quoted (210) and I couldn't be happier with the way they handled me (and my torsion springs). Thanks, Blando!

Called Connie for a phone estimate on a Monday. Was told a non-insulated door, including installation/hardware, would be $675, and an "Angie's List special" insulated door would be $695. She offered to schedule a on-site estimate at my convenience. We agreed to that coming Wednesday between 5-7pm. Bill and son showed up promptly just before 5. They had already stopped by the garage in the alley to take needed measurements. He showed us some sample colors for us to choose and explained the need for additional 1x4s on the door frame so that the weather seal would work properly. He said I could do it or they could. When asked how much he said $40 for parts & labor. I signed the contract and he told me Connie would get back to me tomorrow to schedule a time for installation. She called just a few hours later and asked if we'd like the door installed tomorrow (Thursday). Gave us a window of 8:30-10:30 and told us we did not need to be home. New garage door the next day!
Description of Work: They removed the old door & hardware and hauled it away. They installed some 1x4s to the door frame to ensure the weather sealing worked properly. Installed a new insulated 1-sided steel door and reconnected the existing garage door opener.

It was difficult to contact the company at first, but they were quick to respond, did a great job, and were very reasonable. They replaced a garage door and opener on my old house, which is the main reason I used them again. After this experience, I will not use any other garage door company - I'm sticking with a sure thing.

Garage door problem started on a Sunday night (very cold). Thought I'd look at the problem on Monday (still very cold). Figured it wasn't worth my efforts, especially since I didn't know what I was doing and it was very cold. Placed a call Tuesday morning to Blando Door Co. and an appointment was set up for Thursday of that week. Connie Blando said they wanted to get someone out soon because of the weather, but they were booked. Settled for Thursday PM. Bill arrived to repair the door in short time, and it was still very cold. Will contact Blando when we decide to replace the door in the future.
Description of Work: Cable had come off one of the drums causing the garage door to fail closing. Bill from Blando Door Co. arrived within the promised time slot and quickly repaired the door mechanism. Beside the repairs, he reset the spring, leveled the door, lubricated all moving parts and tightened some loose nuts and bolts on the door sections that possibly may have caused the problem, all this in about one hour, in 10 degree (or less) weather.

It is the time of year of subzero weather. My garage door cable broke on Saturday, and I could not open my garage door. Prior to the snapping of the cable, I had purchased a new garage door opener, but my family member who was going to install it was injured and unable to do the work. Consequently, when the cable snapped, I needed help fast. I checked Angie's list and was pleased to note a company that had many positive reports and awards - Blando Door Company. I now know why - I called first thing on a Monday, and was pleasantly surprised that someone could come out within the early part of the week to fix the cable and install the opener. Connie was great to deal with, very understanding of my plight and worked hard to get me help as soon as possible. The 2 gentlemen who came to do the work were very efficient, competent, and extremely pleasant and easy to deal with. Overall, it is one of the most pleasant experiences I have had in dealing with a situation.

Excellent, even though the door spring broke on the weekend, Connie called me back and we arranged a time for the repairs. Repairs were completed quickly and completely. It couldn't have gone better. Because our house was built by a blind person, the garage floor was not level so only half of the door rested on the ground. Mr. Blando was able to come out right away to fix that problem with installation of a 6" bottom rubber.
Description of Work: Mr. Blando was able to come out right away for free estimate on replacing our old garage door. They were able to come out to install our new door as soon as it came in. They came right on schedule and were finished with installing our new two sided steel insulated garage door with commercial hardware, torsion springs, weatherstripping and cascade windows within an hours time.

These workmen were very nice (one of which was Blando himself) and very professional. I would never have anyone else work on my garage door. They are the best.
Description of Work: My garage door opener was sending my door up and down at random. I called on Tuesday and they came out that Thursday at 11am (had promised between 10am and 12 noon). He estimated the opener at being 15 years old and when he opened it up it read 1991 so he knows his garage door openers! The circuit board was fried and since it was so old it had to be replaced rather than fixed. He said for an extra $20 he put in a key-less pad for access from the outside. Quoted $299 for whole job which took about an hour. They cleaned up after themselves and everything works fine.

We called them, and they were $30 cheaper than the competition. They came the next day during the window they promised and the job was done in two hours. The garage door opener needed to be replaced as well. The technician gave us info on which opener we needed and an estimate on the opener plus installation. We opted to purchase and install it ourselves to save money. Given that it took most of our Labor Day to install it, we probably should have had them do it. The price they quoted for materials was comparable to what we paid at Sears. The installation would have only been $100 above that.

Excellent. Mr. Blando came out and gave me an estimate the same day I called. He was very honest by telling me I really didn't need a new garage-door "opener" and that my Genie was just fine, and my door size was not standard so there would be a 2 week wait. After about 10 days I received a call stating my door had arrived from the factory and that they'd be over on Monday as planned. I arrived home from work to a brand new garage door and an invoice on the back door handle of my house. I wish all home-improvement projects were this simple.
Description of Work: Blando removed old worn out garage door and installed new double-sided steel insulated door. It was a all-in-one project with new torsion spring, new hardware & rails. Also added new weather stripping around garage door opening.

I called Blando on Friday 8/24/07 for a new garage door opener. They had done tune-ups on the old opener in the past and had suggested it may be time for a new one. Well, Thursday night that decision was made for me; that's why I contacted them on Friday. The appointment was set for Monday 8/27 between 1 and 3 pm. On Friday evening about 4 pm I received a call asking if the job could be done that day (Friday) between 5 and 7 pm. Well, Bill and a helper showed up and did the complete job and off they went in time to watch the Brewer's game!
Description of Work: They installed a brand new 3/4 horsepower garage door opener with two remotes, one remote keyless entry, and a multi function opening switch with a motion detector to turn on the light as soon as I walk into the garage.

My initial problem, my garage door would only open a few inches and then stop when I tried to use my electric garage door opener. So I assumed that my garage door opener was in need of repair. The garage door opener technician came out on a Saturday afternoon and told me I had a broken spring on the actual door and that he could not help me. So I called Blando Door Comp. Saturday afternoon and they were able to come out the next day, Sunday, and do the repair for no extra charge. They give me an estimated time of arrival, which was about a two hour time frame. Well in advance on Sunday, they called to let me know they were running a little behind, and gave me another estimated time, which they met. The repair time took about 20-25 minutes.
