I am happy with the work that Tim did for me. The ceiling over the tub was starting to come down because the drywall had been put up in pieces instead of one solid piece, and the steam from the shower was causing it to loosen. He also had to remove the old tub and install a new one. He took care of everything (choosing a new tub although I could have chosen one on my own if I wanted) picking it up and installing. The tile around the tub could not be saved so Tim had to look for similar tile. It is not an exact match but what he chose works. It is a great improvement. Tim knows what he is doing. Tim was dependable, pleasant, customer oriented and professional. I would definitely work with Tim again. Everything went very smoothly.
Description of Work: Tim repaired the ceiling above my shower, repainted the area that he repaired, put in new recessed lighting and removed my old tub and installed a new one.

Tim sent me an estimate after stopping by the house. He was very friendly and prompt. His estimate was fine, however I decided to go a different route and have my vanities custom made.
I would give Tim?s work an A+ if I could and I consider myself to be very picky and demanding. If you are interested in getting work done, get your estimate and scheduled everything promptly. Tim was book solid so I had to wait about 6-weeks for him to come out. I made a choice to wait because I much prefer quality over speediness and the other vendors from Angie?s list did not compare. I think Tim faced a particularity challenging job because I was at work and he had to use his own judgment. We spent quite a bit of time on the initial estimate and I had a detailed list done of what needed to be completed. Still, I was not present when he was doing the work.
Description of Work: I am putting my house up for sale so I had a variety of odd jobs. Tim put new knobs on my kitchen cabinets (had to be drilled); put up a ceiling fan, fixed a poorly done drapery rod, installed closet organizers, and finished my bathroom. In the bathroom, I had to have drywall work done, new lighting fixtures, wainscoting installed, and the entire room painted.
We inherited my fathers duplex. The upper had not had any work since the 70's. Space was not set up the best since it was such an old home. We gave our ideas and he made suggestions. The work took longer than expected. Tim the owner estimated 30 days and it took 60 days. But he always kept us informed of the delay's and the reasons. He tried to match the woodwork in the kitchen to the new windows. It does not quite match but it does not look bad at all. The whole flat looks wonderful. When we sell the house I hope to use him to do some updates on my own home.
Description of Work: We needed to update the kitchen and bathroom. He drywalled, tore down walls, did electrical, put up cabinets, tiled a shower and put down a floor.

I already reviewed 2nd Life at the time they did the work, a couple of years ago. I spoke to someone at Angie's List at the time, I remember her asking me if I wanted to nominate 2nd Life for a service award as I had given them a good review. I have nothing to add. Please take me off your followup list.

Tim did an awesome job! He offered different board options, but in the end we decided to go with the cedar treated boards. The decking slab works wonderfully, covering flashing that I think was there to repair our concrete slab. Anyway we tried different solutions but Tim came up with this idea of a decking slab. He's advise to go with the cedar boards was right on! It's very cooling on hot summer days. I love going out on to our balcony to enjoy my summer days/evenings. There was a bit of time lag in hearing back from the time I initially called but since I wasn't in a hurry, I didn't mind. I received a return call about a week to two weeks later but once the appointment was set, Tim showed up and everything went smoothly. This is the second time I have used his service. The first time we had Tim install an 18" dishwasher that involved cutting away a bit of cabinetry as well as performing some wiring and plumbing for hookup. I also had him build pullout cabinet drawers. We are very pleased with his carpentry skills. After I painted and filled in the hardware holes, the dishwasher fits perfectly in our small kitchen. Additionally for this job, he was responsive to return my call in a reasonable amount of time. Of three other contractors I called, Tim was the only one that returned my call. For both jobs, Tim cleaned up the work area very well, as to not even be able to tell that work had been done. He prices his projects fairly. I definitely will be using Tim again and again.
Description of Work: Tim built a decking base for our balcony to cover flashing that covered our concrete balcony slab. He used cedar treated lumber and gold premium exterior deck screws.

I called 2nd Life on 5/23 to clean gutters and fix several projects. They never responded. I had to call them back 6 days later and told them I was going to comment on Angies List about their not returning my call. They called back a few hours later and said they would not be able to get to my project because they were busy.
Description of Work: They did not respond to my call.

I am surprised that [member name removed] had this response as I called her back because of the first phone call and did not even see the second call until hours after we ([member name removed] and I) had already talked. Due to work schedule, I did state I could come out for an estimate, but would not be able to perform any services until August. (2+ months in the future, if the estimate was agreeable for work to be performed). [member name removed] chose not to have an estimate done and we parted on good terms. She even thanked me for my time.

Overall the experience was a very good one. I explained the story from start to finish in the "services performed" section above.
Description of Work: Our dryer vent was held together by a type of tape that was supposed to hold the parts of the dryer vent in place. However, eventually the dryer vent came apart. We contacted 2nd LIFE. They were prompt in their response. The repairman said that he would connect the pieces of the dryer vent with screws to make the vent more secure. I was very pleased that he was knowledgable about the best way to handle the situation. He was friendly and did the work in a timely manner.

If I had to do this over again I would definitely use 2nd life Home Repair and remodeling. Tim told me it would take at least 3 days possibly another 1/2 day and he was right on the money. Even though he ran into some problem areas in the process and had to obtain additional supplies to do the job right he did not charge me extra and the quote he supplied was exactly what he charged, nothing more. I even asked Tim for some more of his business cards as I have some co-workers that need some work done and I will definitely be recommending him.
Description of Work: I contacted 2nd Life for an estimate to install a drop ceiling in my basement. Tim the owner responded promptly and had a quote emailed to me within a week. I went with Tim because his quote was detailed line by line breaking down the cost of the labor as well as the cost of the material to be used. He also sent me a sample of the ceiling tile he wanted to use but stated if I did not like this particular style he would provide others. In the end we ended up using the sample he provided.
He was very responsive to the initial call, and provided a good estimate. His work was successful and complete and he left things clean and neat, We will continue to utilize this individual for future work. He did follow-up with me and installed the ceiling fan on February 8.
Description of Work: Tim repaired and replaced some plumbing fixtures in our kitchen, and removed a ceiling fan in the bathroom to help me identify the replacement part to order. He will be repairing that next week.

Overall an excellent experience and I would definitely call on Tim again. Starting at the beginning...I received a quick response from my e-mail inquiry. Tim arrived at the scheduled time and gave me an estimate to fix the doorknob/lock. He then came back the next day with his tools to make the repair. After he left...I found that in one position the doorknob/lock still wasn't working quite right. I called Tim and he was out the next morning to take care of it. Tim is a very professional and clearly dedicated craftsman.
Description of Work: The doorknob and deadbolt on our 100 year old door was not working properly. Tim took apart the hardware, figured out the problem and fixed it.

Tim provided initial estimate and worked with me to finalize the details as we worked out the sequence and timing of the work. He was very open and honest regarding costs and timing. Tim worked well with the electrical and plumbing subcontractors. Tim arrived on time daily and cleaned up the job site before leaving. Workmanship was excellent. Tiling and painting is high quality and we have received complements on his work from the electrician and plumbing contractors when they returned to compete their portions of the job. I would not hesitate using Tim on future jobs at my residence.
Description of Work: Remodeled 6ft x 6ft 1st floor bathroom in 1921 bungelow. Replaced tub with whirlpool, replaced existing double hung original window with new energy efficient unit, replaced vanity with pedestal sink and replaced toilet. Replace tongue-and-groove floor with ceramic tile and replaced lath and plaster with drywall and wainscot of subway tile. Homeowner performed demolition and sub contracted rough electrical and rough plumbing. Job included all installation and finishing including new window, door, and linen closet trim and painting. Tim was able to reuse the existing entry and closers doors and did a good job of refinishing them to match the remodel.

PROBLEMS: 1. Fence / gate loosely installed, allowed dogs to squeeze through & out onto the street even though gates were padlocked. I had emphasized requirement for the fence to be dog proof and had expressed concern to Tim the fence had spots that were not dog proof this was not corrected. After the escape, my neighbor who is not a handyman made the corrections in approx 1 hour. I received 3 dog at large tickets $400! I live in an urban neighborhood & am lucky the dogs were not hit by cars. Also, neighbors did not appreciate my dogs running around loose in the streets! I paid approx $2500 to prevent this exact scenario! 2. Security light half way installed then work stopped with out explanation for approx 6 weeks. 3. Many ignored messages i.e. fence permit, when work would be completed, problems with work performed, request for price confirmation prior to work being done. 4.Window replacement - new window I had on site didn't fit. I wasn't called about the problem, instead, an old storm window (probably 50+ yr old window) installed instead, window is dirty inside & out, screwed into the house instead of installed properly. I still charged original quoted price for this work, even though instead of having a new window installed, there is a 50 year old storm window that needs to be completely replaced. I paid full price for a job that needs to be redone. There were other small issues but my point in writing this is you cant be sure if the job will be done well or not, if the job will be completed in a timely manner, if there are problems will you be consulted, will they be corrected? For $50 to $75 an hour labor I expect more. I renewed my subscription to Angies List in order to post this as the only way Angies List is of value is if the ratings reflect both good & bad work performed.
Description of Work: Variety of jobs completed over a 12 months such as washer dryer hookup, fence & gate installation, security light install, roof repair, window replacement, total cost about $4000.

I called several places two weeks before Memorial Day hoping to get my glass tile backsplash done before the holiday weekend. Tim from 2nd Life did an on-site estimate and made the project happen. I'm very happy with the results and still get positive comments from friends and family. I really appreciated the attention to detail including recommendations about the type of light switches to choose. Though it was a smaller tiling project, he took great care. I've used his services again for a replacement storm door and new locks/doorknobs on the front and back doors. I'd definitely use their services again.
Description of Work: Added a glass tile backsplash in the kitchen. 2nd Life did the prep, tiling, sealing and replaced the light switches.

Tim contacted me by Sunday. I was impressed by this since none of the other contractors have yet contacted me and it is now Monday. He laid out his schedule so that I knew ahead of time when he was available. Unfortunately, he was not available until December and I am hoping to get my porch done before then. He still offered to do an estimate. He was very professional. I will keep him in mind if I can not find anyone to do it sooner.
Description of Work: Emailed to get a new front porch put on. I emailed on a Friday.

Estimate was given right away upon request and then did the work in a good time frame and the quality was good. Very happy with the service and work.
Description of Work: Replaced rotten wood around windows and topped with aluminum and painted. Nice job done on time and very near his estimate. Will have him do further work.
The project went great. Tim was very professional - I would use Tim in other projects in a hear beat.
Description of Work: Remodeled a shower in basement put in a ceramic tile wall & floor and a spa type shower - put in a fan vent - just a beautiful job.
Everything went on schedule for the most part. We enjoyed working with Tim. If there is a problem , he will fix it. Looking for my next project for him to do!

Response from 2nd Life Home Remodeling
In February 2012 I was requested to write an estimate for a fence and to repair the back of a garage. I did provide an estimate and appropriate responses, but the work couldn't be preformed until April, and since the customer did not indicate he wanted me to perform the services, I assumed the customer went with another contractor. I believe he has me confused with some other contractor since most reports are written soon after I do work for customers. This is being written 4 months later.

Overall it went extrmely well, the tools and the lumber necessary were always out of the way, with minimal mess, the crew was competant and polite, and Tim is very knowledgable. We have used Tim's services before, and we have found that we can rely on him. He is very meticulous and proud of his work. He is a true "craftsman." We'll use him again, when the need comes up. I highly recommend him.
Description of Work: A heavy stone stoop was remove prior to constructing a wooden porch. Tim felt that the removal of the stoop vs. 2 guys breaking it up with an air hammer would speed things up and be less disruptive. My wife and I agreed with him. We're glad he advised us to go that way. It cut construction time down. The total time it took was three days, excluding a day it rained and the week-end. My wife and I were very pleased with the time it took.

Tim was very responsive and easy to work with. He returned phone calls and emails and conducted himself professionally. He showed up the day the job was to start and completed the job one day after the estimated end date and did a good job on everything I asked him to do. I thought the price was reasonable. I'd recommend Tim.
Description of Work: I had a partially remodeled bathroom that needed finishing (flooring installed, bathtub, vanity and toilet installed, tile put up in bath area), some electrical work (new outlets), a bit of dry walling and a bit of plumbing to be done.
