Description of Work: We had three bathrooms remodeled at the same time, Tim and his team did a great job and we are very pleased with the results and the very reasonable cost. I would definitely use Tim again. He did almost everything--built interior walls, drywall, electrical, tiling floors and walls...he did bring a plumber in for some tricky plumbing work. One thing we appreciated about Tim was his willingness to work with new materials. We had selected some unusual floor tiles and he did the appropriate research and outreach to experts. On the constructive feedback side, we would have liked if they had sealed off the work areas better--we had dust throughout the house. Also, Tim understands he needs to handle estimating jobs and scheduling a bit better. His partner had estimated a certain amount of time, but the work took a week or two longer than had been planned. This was not a problem for us as we had been wanting to do this for over 25 years, so a few more weeks didn't matter. Costs were also more than originally estimated, but this was due to us choosing different materials than had been estimated, so we were fine with that, too. So, we would advise you tell Tim up front if you have particular materials or fixtures so he can estimate and schedule appropriately. One of the most important things to us was that Tim focused on our job instead of flitting from one job to another as has been our experience with other contractors. Tim and his crew were always polite and prompt. He was always there when he said he would be, and would let us know if his schedule changed (which was infrequent). Great job, Tim!

+ -1 moreLet me begin by saying that there is no other way to describe Tim Marek's work than METICULOUS. He's a one-man band in all the best ways....meaning he really seems to be able to do it all, and he doesn't hire a bunch a strangers to come in to do the work after he's set it up. I didn't hear from him until I had already receive five other estimates. He was having some difficulties with his e-mail, which is how I sent the inquiry. However, once we got in touch, he was quick to come out and prepare and estimate and when I accepted his quote, he began about ten days later. He finished in a little over two days. Some of the quotes were THREE TIMES what Tim said it would cost to do the job. He listened to what I wanted; unlike others who insisted it would look better if I did "this" or "that". He was respectful and kind about the fact that I have two cats and seemed charmed rather than annoyed when they were curious about what he was doing. I felt like he treated the job like one he was doing in his own home. He was prompt, honest, pleasant and concerned that I was pleased with the finished product. My only hesitation in giving him such a glowing recommendation is the fear that he'll be all "booked up" when we need him for something else!!
Description of Work: We asked Tim to cut and finish a small hole (16" X 48") in a load bearing wall between our kitchen and living room. We also asked him to repair a crack in our ceiling from that wall to the fireplace opposite.

+ -1 more2nd Life Home Repair & Remodeling did a top notch job on the bathroom and kitchen. He also had to do some plumbing and electrical work. He put a porch light on the back porch and instead of putting through the wall he just put the electrical wiring up through a pipe and I was not impressed with that. He let me know that I was able to buy little things that I would need to save money and he would install them for me. I am glad that I found him but I wish that some of the work was done a little better. He was good at being flexible with our schedule.

+ -1 moreI had wanted to remodel my 80-year-old kitchen for years. I finally decided to do it this summer. With each new estimate I got, I became more and more overwhelmed by the choices and possibilities. In the end, I was paralyzed and unable to proceed. Tim was the only contractor that ever called back to follow up on his estimate. He had always been in the running because I was impressed with his knowledge and his willingness to make my ideas work (instead of forcing his ideas) and his price was the best. We met a second time and he helped me wade through all of the choices and settle on some final decisions. He was completely responsive to what I wanted. He did an outstanding job. The finished project is beautiful and I can hardly remember my old kitchen.
Description of Work: A complete remodel of my outdated kitchen: installation of new cabinets (stained to match the existing wood), removal and replacement of old countertop and sink, installation of a dishwasher, new flooring, construction of an island, painting, shelving installed...the works.

+ 4 moreTim was the third person from Angie's list to come out and give me a quote. I emailed him through Angie's list and he called within 48 hours. He came out within 3 days and was very prompt. He was extremely detailed in his description of work needing to be done, potential worst-case-scenarios, and what could be done to make the space more usable. I was very happy with his detailed quote, especially that he put it in writing (which the other 2 would not). When I called a few days later to let him know that we wanted to put a deposit down to hire him...I never heard from him again. It's disappointing because I think he would have been great to work with, and I think he would have done a great job. I must add: he did not talk down to me as a female (which others did do) which was VERY much appreciated.
Description of Work: Rip out and replace a bathtub and acrylic surround ($2250 plus my cost for tub and surround); possibly replace vanity, sink, hardware, and toilet; lay tile on floor, and install recessed light over shower/bathtub.

We own an older home and appreciated his flexibility and willingness to offer up suggestions. The work was done on-schedule and exactly at the price quoted. We would definitely recommend Tim to anyone.

We had one small issue at the end when Tim thought the project was on a time & materials basis, & we thought it was on fixed fee. We paid the fixed fee & although Tim presented his case, he was very professional & did not make a big issue out of it. I would encourage people to use Tim & would recommend him to others.
Description of Work: General remodeling of a family room, including updating electrical, running speaker wire through the walls, 2 new outlets, putting up a ceiling fan, & new trim, including crown molding & baseboard.

+ -1 moreTim was a great find! He answered his phone, kept his appointments and sent out an estimate after saying he would do so. Getting in touch with him was never a problem. Tim was able to adapt when many problems, including the tiling (as mentioned above) came up. Throughout the process, Tim was very cost conscious, finding the sensible solutions to fit our needs. Where others would try to get you to pay for their expertise, Tim was always willing to give us suggestions for the smaller jobs we could handle ourselves. Between Tim's work and the work we did (based on Tim's suggestions), our bathroom turned out very nicely at an affordable price. Two minor problems came up after Tim had finished, and Tim was more than willing to come out and resolve the issues. He seemed eager to ensure we were happy with the end result. Tim's a hard worker and an honest guy. Very highly recommend.
Description of Work: Tear out & replace medicine cabinet, replace shower/tub valve control, replace bathroom window, replace tub surround. (The tub surround actually turned into a tiling job since, when the old surround was taken off, a majority of good tiles were found underneath. Tim replaced the missing and damaged tiles and re-grouted the entire shower).
