The biggest issue with this company is their incompetent, if not immoral accounting practices. The demeanor of the builder changed completely when we started to question some of the bogus charges on our account. He sent rude and harassing emails and text messages to us over and over trying to intimidate us into signing statements that were incorrect. Months later bills are still unsettled and we heard from several of the subcontractors that funds were not being given to them correctly. We are still unclear how they can be in business with how inept they are keeping records and accurately determining and communicating to the home owner what is owed and to whom. Also, he lost interest in our home build project very quickly and move on to the next sale. We still have numerous items undone and not completed correctly that the builder has been unwilling to complete. Furthermore, do not trust ‘CFH labor’ as a source for items completed if you want them done neatly and correctly. Work is very sloppy, unprofessional and in many cases done incorrectly. Getting them to fix it will prove impossible. Overall it has been a very disappointing, stressful, and highly combative experience and we wish we would have never used Custom Family Homes as our builder. Do not be misled by his pleasant initial attitude, we know several other customers who have had similar experiences. We felt we did our due diligence up front and our dream home build was in good hands, but in spite of checking out the builder ahead of time and spending lots of upfront time with him prior to the build, it was an awful experience I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy.
Description of Work: We had a home built by Custom Family Homes in mid 2016. To say we were disappointed with the process would be a huge understatement. Although the builder, Mike Van Hoof, starts out friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable, our dream soon turned into a disaster. Luckily the subcontractors he works with, for the most part, are good and we are overall happy with the end product.
