They did a good job. They totally redid it. It was well done and very quickly too.

The cost was competitive and the completed work was excellent. In fact, they did a better job than the last company I hired, because they cleared away the grass clippings that lined the sides of the driveways, rather than just going over them. Merit arrived on time and one of the crew members, a young woman, came to the door just prior to starting the job to check in and answer any questions I might have. I can highly recommend this company.

This is a follow up to a negative review I wrote. Within 24 hours of the time I posted my negative review on Angie's List, Merit Asphalt contacted my husband and scheduled this service. They honored the original quote even though apparently the price had gone up. I don't know anything about sealcoating a driveway, but my husband said they did an EXCELLENT job! Way better than whoever we had last time. We are very happy with the responsiveness of Merit and the care they took with our driveway. We definitely recommend Merit based on this experience.

I contacted Merit via Angies List, Aug 21, 2014, e-mail for a estimate on a resealing of my driveway. I was contacted via Angies message's by Merit, the same day, explaining that someone would contact me about and estimate. Two days later Merit called me and asked what I needed done. I explained, and was told that they would e-mail an estimate to me, that was OK. A week later I called Merit to find out what had happened to my estimate. It had not been done and at that time I was told an estimate takes seven to ten days to get an estimate. Merit explained that this was a busy time of the year for them.........I only wanted an estimate and don't live far from their office. Inexcusable customer service. If I was to use them at this time of year would I be put on hold, without notice in the same way because they are busy? I canceled my estimate and will look elsewhere for someone who will at least keep me informed!!

We bought an old home in Brookfield and the driveway was over 2000 square feet which was in pretty bad shape. I called them early May and they were able to schedule someone to inspect and provide a quote. He got there within a few days and I was able to meet with him and ask questions. He was very knowledgeable an took the time to explain things. He showed me why the old driveway was n't graded properly. He explained why he would have lower the foundation in a couple of spots. It was a good experience and felt we were in good hands. At that point, he said they would provide a quote within 10 days. That was done as expected. The weather didn't cooperate and it was mid July until we actually got the work done. They sent a team out on Saturday and removed the old driveway. They started right at 7am and completed by the afternoon. They had told us they couldn't get a paving crew out until the following Wednesday, but we knew that before they started. They kept us informed fairly well. The paving crew came as expected and in the end, the driveway looks great. I waited until we got some rain to do the review because I wanted to see the drainage. All was wonderful! They are more expensive than other quotes I received, but the quality was outstanding. I definitely would use them again.

I contacted Merit and they followed up with an estimate very quickly. Both the estimator and installation crew were professional and competent. We got three bids and Merit was in the middle. I needed to call a couple of times to get an installation date. We are very happy with the results and would recommend Merit to other customers. We would also use Merit again.

I worked with Mike Snapp from on, mid June with a quote that I wanted in two parts one on the existing drive and the other part expanding 326 sq.ft. and I didn't want the work started till Aug. I did make some changes to the total sq.ft. after the first quote and he had to make an other trip back , for 2nd quote. He said it wasn't a problem. And on Aug.1st they removed the old and next day was a Saturday they put down the new drive. With the size of the crew they had It went pretty fast. And it went smooth with no problems. I was very happy with everything.

They were on time. The price was good. They did a great job. We went from having a gravely type driveway because our asphalt was so bad and sunk in. Now it is actually really nice driveway. Our driveway is very long. The work was really done very well.

It was a no hassle, no pressure experience and he truly listened to our concerns and desires. While we will be delaying our project till next year, we were extremely satisfied with Merit's prompt response and professionalism with our estimate.

It went well. Their price was little higher than most, but I felt like I could trust them and the quality of their work.

Professional, competent, communicative, on time

Called Merit Mon morning for an estimate after another big asphalt company failed to call back. Had an estimator there within 4 hours at which time I signed contract. He pointed out a couple of other small patches that could be included for the minimum price, Said wit would be done within 3 weeks, was done within 8 days.

Our driveway has a 200 ft. inbound leg, a 100 ft. outbound leg and a 60 ft. leg out from the garage. Because our existing driveway was allowing water to pool at the intersection of the two outer legs, we had a small lake form in the winter, which froze and then became an ice rink. We decided to have it replaced and invited 3 firms to give us a quote. When Mike Snapp, the estimator/project engineer from Merit arrived to give us a quote, he noticed many things the other 2 firms either didn't notice or didn't share with me. Mike thought about all aspects of the project and what consequences raising and tilting the driveway for proper drainage would have on things like where the sidewalk met the driveway, water runoff and backing the edges of the new driveway, and even the effect of leaving some existing overgrown yews next to the driveway. He gave me a straight quote for all the work and materials to be used on the project and specified what each element would cost allowing me to pick and choose which options I wanted such as a regular or thicker layer of asphalt. Another contractor gave me a quote that had a slightly cheaper base price for 5600 sq. ft.(everyone else quoted 4600) but had a stipulation for up to $6000 for extra gravel if needed. All things considered, I believe you get what you pay for and overall Merit just did a much better job of pre-planning and they had good ratings on Angie's list so I went with them. I figured if they were that careful planning, then they would also do a good job of paving. I am very glad I did. A crew of around 8 men arrived on Saturday for the excavation phase and everything done was professional, efficiently done, and best of all they all seemed to really care about being careful not to damage overhanging trees, straightening existing grass lines, and everything involved with the removal of the old driveway. Both Mike and a foreman were present the entire time. Everyone was very friendly and answered any questions or concerns I had. The expertise of the skidloader driver was exceptional in both laying down the new gravel and spreading and feathering in the topsoil next to the driveway to about 8 feet out from the driveway. Everybody was a little leery about removing the yews because their root systems ran under the sidewalk. The operator using the backhoe did an excellent job of removing all four trees and their root balls without nicking, cracking, or uprooting the sidewalk, truly impressive. On Monday a different crew came to lay the asphalt. Again the crew was professional, efficient and all knew their jobs without the foreman having to give instructions. Again any questions I had were answered with a friendly reply. They even helped me make a slight modification to the sidewalk area and thought it would better match what I had done with retaining bricks on the other side. They cleaned up the area, feathered in the dirt up to the new level of the driveway and everything looked great when they left. Does Merit stand behind their product. I had a question about some pooling water in a small spot a few days later. Since Mike was going to be in the area, he stopped over to take a look at my concern. It turned out to not be an issue at all after we had the deluge of rain on the following Friday but the point is Merit did come out immediately to address my concern. Although Merit was not my cheapest bid, I believe spending the extra few hundred dollars was well worth it, I would definitely use them again if needed, and I would recommend them to anyone needing asphalt.

I called Merit Asphalt for an estimate for replacing a 2500 sq. ft. driveway two weeks ago. The woman who answered the phone was very curt in taking my information. After getting my name, address, email address and nature of the work she simply said "you'll get a bid in 7 to 10 days" and hung up. I didn't fully understand what she meant so I assumed someone would first contact me and arrange a time to come over. I was wrong. When I hadn't heard anything from them after 10 days, I again called. The same woman answered the phone and informed me they had my name and address and it takes 10 days to 2 weeks to even hear from Merit and when they did have an estimate, they would email it to me. She seemed irritated that I was calling again. It has now been two weeks since I first contacted them and have heard nothing. I feel that if it is this difficult to even get an estimate, they probably wouldn't have time to do the job in a timely manner. Furthermore, based on the office woman's attitude, should I have any questions or problems with the job, they would not be helpful at all. They may have a good past Angie's list rating, which is why I contacted them initially, but I wouldn't give them a good rating currently.

It was an excellent service. they gave us 3 different estimates for the approaches we could use. They were very timely and we were very impressed with the work .
