A licensed electrican from Eand S did the above work on September 14, 2012 He started at 8 am and worked straight through to 3:30 pm to get everything done. He was professional in his work; asked questions when issues came up, explained what he had done, and cleaned up well afterwards. I helped where I could such as assisting with running the ground wire through the ceiling area. After he had completed most of the work, I noticed some lights that did not work in the laundry room. He re-openned the main electrical panel and found some wires that had been dislodged from breakers when he had added the grounding wire. He put them back into the breakers and checked the rest of the panel to be sure everything worked. It was helpful that I knew what I and the owner of the company had agreed to be done and where in the house each of the issues were. I could quickly point out to the electrican the specific outlets, switches or other items so he knew right where to start on each task. Being available to answer questions also speeded up the process. Overall I was quite satisfied with the work done.
Description of Work: I purchased a 33year old house for investment purposes in our neighborhood in June, 2012. During a general house inspection I had done during the purchasing process, several potential electrical issues were identified. I hired E&S Electric to do a specific electrial inspection through a $39 Angie's List special deal which the company president, Mike Eichorst did on 8/23/2012. Mike spent about two hours going through the house with me doing a dozen point check list review of electrical systems in the house which was the Angie's List deal. I could have requested a more in depth review of a 70 point safety inspection, but at a higher price. However, I felt that the more limited review was sufficient for the conditions found. Mike wrote up a proposal including 12 miscellaneous repairs/replacements plus a separate estimate for wiring/installing two ceiling fans on a cathederal ceiling where no wiring existed. I chose to only have the repairs/additions done. Mike met with me at the house a second time to go over each of the items and the work was scheduled for September 14, 2012. The actual work included replacing existing outlets in the garage, kitchen, laundry room, and for the water softner with GFI outlets; re-wiring the powder room GFI outlet to work properly; replacing two dimmer light swtiches; re-wiring two three way light switches to function correctly; installing extenders on a light switch and outlet to bring them flush with the wall; attaching an A/C disconnect to the house siding; electrically bonding a flexible gas line at the water heater to a water pipe; correcting rommex connectors at the elctrical panel; running a #4 ground wire from the electrical panel to the water service above a finshed basement ceiling; and replacing 2" PVC conduit at the meter socket where power lines feed the meter from the street service. The last item was dropped when the power company agreed to do all the work involved with that item, and I got a $100 credit back from E&S Electric from the original estimate.

I bought an Angiie's List Big Deal for a motion sensor light to be installed. The electrician arrived early for the appointment, installed the light and adjusted it with me to be sure I understood how to do this and that it started off the way I wanted it. The whole process went very smoothly and I'm very pleased with the result.

I did not have a good experience with this company. I had prepaid for two hours of work and that is the amount of time it took for the job. I was charged an additional 1.5 hours for travel time and around $20 for additional materials. The electrician's work was very good, but dealing with the office person to dispute the additional charge for travel time was very unpleasant. The next time I consider another Angie's List coupon deal I will think twice.
Description of Work: The electrician removed an old bathroom fan and installed a new bathroom fan. The fans were the same size.

He did a pretty basic walk-though of the house, checked the electrical outlets (inside and out), looked at the panel, tested the GFI outlets, and gave me a copy of the form he was filling out when he was done. The whole thing was done in about 20-30 minutes. All of this had also been done during my home inspection prior to purchasing the home (a couple of months before this visit). I guess I don't know what else I expected to be done, but given that this was billed as a $200+ value, I thought it would be more extensive that that. As it was, 20-30 minutes of an electrician's time seemed like a decent enough value for $40, but if I had had to pay $200 for the same service, I would have felt ripped off. I also asked about getting some estimates to replace some switches and install a whole house surge protector. It took at least several days to hear back about the switches (apparently I was looking for an unconventional switch option and it took time to research it to find out if that was available), and I don't remember hearing anything more about the surge protector. In all, I don't feel ripped off, but I wouldn't bother getting this service again.
Description of Work: This was an Angie's List Big Deal, a $200+ value electrical audit for $39.95, if I recall correctly. No actual electrical work was to be done, this was just an audit of all of the electricals in the house. Being a new first-time homeowner, I thought this would be a good opportunity to have the electrical system in the house thoroughly examined, and make sure there were no wiring issues we needed to deal with. I also asked him about some projects that we were interested in having done, to see about getting some estimates.

The work was expertly and professionally performed. John was professional and courteous. All resulting dirt and such was cleaned up - it was like he was never there apart from the new fan in the bedroom (and a working fan in the other bedroom). I have added Eand S to my favorites and hope they'll offer something I need again!

I noticed that this company was rated as a bit expensive on Angie's list when I purchased the coupon. I mentioned this to the owner. He said prices had come down some recently because of the economy being slow, but he had 8 electricians....I guess meaning that he had to earn enough to pay them all even if I only needed one or two (?) My other concern is that any company that does business (the same type of business-electrical) under two different names is suspect of something. Maybe for this company it is not an issue, but some companies use this technique to hide problems. I rated the professionalism low because he put out a coupon promising work that he had no intention of following through on. Fortunately, Angie's list refunded my money. So I am only out time and energy dealing with this company. I called the company today and told them that I was not accepting their bid (I told Mike I would let him know either way) and I was asking Angie's list for a refund.
Description of Work: I purchased a big deal coupon from Angie's list for this company, which by the way is the same company as Easy Electric. I thought when I bought the coupon, if it sounds to good to be true, it probably isn't. And it wasn't.The coupon was $299.00 which was supposed to include whole house electrical inspection, some kind of electrical repairs ( I don't recall the exact details, but it seemed kind of "unlimited" in this regard) and it also included about 5 two hour work periods of an electrician spaced at least one month apart. This last part is what I wanted to use.We are planning a kitchen remodel. Within that remodel are a number of smaller electrical projects that include installing can lights in the dinette, can lights in the kitchen, moving some electical outlets, installing some new electrical outlets, etc.I called Mike (the owner of Easy electric/E&S Electric) and discussed this with him.Right away he told me that he had no intentions of sending an electrician out to my home for 2 hours worth of work once a month to do projects involved in the kitchen remodel. He told me that I could not get my kitchen remodel done with the coupon. I told him that I knew that.He seemed defensive. Then he wanted to know if I would let him bid the job or if some other electrician would get that work. I told him I would accept a bid and if he wanted to incorporate the coupon into the bid in some fashion I would consider it.I received his bid and at first it seemed low, but when I looked more closely it did not include the lighting. I thought that was odd because I specified LED under cabinet lighting and on his Angie's list page it says he is "green" because he does LED lighting. So I could not compare it to my other bids.He did incorporate the coupon into the bid, but not in a realistic way from my perspective. A coupon is supposed to be a money saving device. It is supposed to get you somewhat more value than what you pay for. I don't recall exactly what the big deal said about the coupon but it was something like $899 value for $299. The way he incorporated the coupon into the bid did not acheive any savings. The coupon cost $299 and what he did with the bid was subtract $299 off of the $500 worth "finish work". Finish work being things like putting the covers on light switches and other things that one does not need a licensed electrician to do-- things many home owners could likely do on their own. I felt that $500 was too much for that work, but if he had said the coupon would cover the $500 maybe we would have had something to discuss about his bid and getting the job awarded to him.

Response from E & S Electric
The name of my company is E and S Electric. It was formed in 1974. In 2004 we created a residential division, to concentrate on, and market ourselves to residential customers. We named our new division Easy Electric. It can be a little confusing at first; We probably didn't need to create a separate name. The intention was to let people know that we have a staff dedicated to residential customers and that we can do more than commercial work. It was not formed to hide any type of problems. We are a very solid company and have served several hundred happy customers over the past 38 years. I admit I didn't communicate the details of the coupon very well to the customer. They intended to manage the remodel project themselves instead of hiring a contractor. I tried to give them suggestions on how things should be coordinated, but they had other intentions. I do admit I was a little short with them. I think it had more to do with the fact that our personalities differed and we just were not on the same page. The coupon is hard to understand and I tried to come up with a solution so that they could use it. My initial thought was that the five two hour trips would not work very well for a kitchen remodel. My experience with kitchen remodels is they take a lot of coordination. Homeowners want them completed as soon as possible because it is a major pain to be without a functioning kitchen. My bid included an estimated fifty hours of labor at $50.00 per hour. I offered to give them a $500.00 credit (10 hours @ $50.00/hour) to use for “finish” work. In retrospect, I probably didn't need to state what those 10 hours would be designated to. I thought a better solution would be to give the credit up front, and have us complete the 10 hours of work over a couple day period instead of completing two hours of work a month. I save on gas, and can be more efficient; The home owner gets to use the coupon in a manner we both understand, and the remodel is completed sooner. What I remember, is the home owner called and asked me to bid the kitchen remodel. When they mentioned they wanted to use the coupon for certain stages of the work, I wanted to know if it was their intention to use two electricians to complete the remodel. I believe it is better for one electrician to have the sole responsibility, and I believe it is in the home owners best interest as well. It is common practice for home owners to select and purchase their light fixtures. There are a million choices, different styles, different finishes, and different price levels. I admit it is easy for me to exclude them, but it is also impossible for me to pick something the owner would like. I do help homeowners pick out lighting, or I tell them where they can shop to find the best deal. I gave the home owner an honest bid and offered a $500.00 credit. They still would have received the 12 months of unlimited electrical repairs. To say I didn’t offer any savings is untrue. At a minimum they would have paid $299.00 for $500.00 of electrical work, if they never called me for an electrical repair. At $50.00 per hour, they are only paying for one electrician, not eight. When I don’t have work, the electricians don’t have work, and they file for unemployment compensation. I hope that clears up some of the misunderstanding.

I took advantage of an Angie's list coupon to have a little electrical work done. The electrician arrived rather outside the window we were given but other than that the experience was a wholly satisfactory one. The work was done to a high standard and the electrician went the extra mile by removing the fan from its dimmer setting (guaranteed to wreck the fan - who knew!) and putting it on its own circuit with switch. The company was in touch with me via email in a very efficient manner and was very pleasant to deal with. I will definitely use this company again for electrical work and will not hesitate to recommend them to others.

It went great. The electrician who did our job was John. John arrived on time and reviewed our job with us. He explained what we was going to do and answered all of our questions. I then got out of his way to let him work. We have blown insulation in the attic and the area where our bathroom is located did not leave a lot of room to work. So this made this job tough and nasty. But John was a professional about the whole thing. We had our roof done last fall and unknown to us, there was debris in the fan exhaust line. John cleaned that out and reattached the exhaust line to make sure it was venting to the outside properly. In addition, thankfully how our bathroom was wired John was able to have the light part of the fan connected to a vanity light in the bathroom so the fan could remain on a separate switch - which was the ideal set-up for us. John double-checked with us to make sure it was wired they way we wanted. The most important part for me was that John took his time and did high quality work. The actual bathroom fan that was part of the deal was a higher quality fan then we currently had, so it works really well and is much quieter. We are very happy! The only follow-up issue we have was that the fan/light fixture was suppose to have 2 included light bulbs (they are not your standard bulbs) but the box only had one light bulb so they will be dropping off or delivering the light bulb within the week. This was no-one's fault since the fan was suppose to come with two included light bulbs and it only came with one. I know that we will have some future electrical projects and I will not hesitate to call or use E and S Electric again. Sincerely, Mike Crawford
Description of Work: We took advantage of the Angie's List Big Deal of the replacement bathroom fan & installation. To summarize, they took out our old bathroom fan and replaced it with a better quality fan. We also upgraded to get a fan with a light.

Scheduling the service was easy and emails were promptly returned. Service person arrived on time and clearly explained the job. He was friendly and professional. After understanding that the bathroom I had originally chosen for the fan would require significantly enlarging the rough opening and possibly require drywall patching, I decided to have the fan replaced in a different bathroom. This was cheerfully accommodated. Work was done in 2 hours and fan performs great. Price of $179 seemed expensive at first, but after understanding all that was involved and 2 hours of labor, it was a good deal. I would not hesitate to use this contractor again.

I took advantage of an Angie's List coupon of $99 for 2 hours of electrical work. John came out to the house at the time that we set up, checked the switch that I thought was the problem and then discovered that the fixture my husband and I installed was hooked up to the continuous circuit (had electricity to it 24/7) and that's why we had to unscrew the bulbs to turn it off, etc. That took less than an hour, so he asked if there was something else he could do. My husband remembered that we bought a ceiling fan for the bedroom several years ago and we suggested that. John saw that we did not have an existing deiling fixture in the bedroom and then checked the attic crawl space for access (he's the first person to go up there in 19 years) and said that it would probably take about 2 hours to do - the other hour we had coming to us and the rest at $85/hr. He had another customer to work for that morning, but said he would get back to me about returning in the afternoon. He called back in an hour and said he would be back that day. John came in with a drop cloth to put on the bed and asked if it was okay for him to stand on the bed - otherwise we'd have to move it with some difficulty since the head is raised on cement blocks. He went up in the hot attic and drilled the hole for the fixture and when he came back down picked up all the pieces of insulation he could. He also installed a dimmer for the light and switch for the fan so we wouldn't have to access the chain pulls. It was altogether a very good experience. We haven't yet received a bill (it's only been 3 days), but from this experience would definitely use them again.

We purchased the Deal so I am not sure about their normal prices. I will say that they were very responsive via email and were able to get me into the schedule in about a week, which worked well for us as it was not an emergency. He was right on time for our appointment, which is extremely important to me. He first verified the work that was going to be performed. He installed the time and programmed it for me. He then asked if I would want him to remove the extra switch that would no longer be able to be used. He then inspected our outdoor lamp post as its been acting crazy. He cleaned the fixture, inspected the fixture along with the outlet on the post. He also inspected the junction box outside and the one in the garage to search for any obvious issues. He completed the work in about 1.5 hours and was really professional and friendly. If we ever need electrical work done again, I will call them.

They wanted to charge $47 just to give an estimate. Once I refused, they offered to have someone stop by when they were in the area next. That took a week. We were replacing paneling with wallboard and ran into some difficulties. We hired Easy only to ground some outlets and cap off outlets for our carpenter, but John Eichorst, the electrician, made many useful suggestions; for example, he suggested that we install canned lighting (which we love), and put in cable and phone lines while the walls were open. His work was excellent, he showed up when he said he would and was pleasant to work with. We would definitely use his service again.
Description of Work: Installed can lighting, door bell, GFI outlets, grounded all outlets, replaced some light fixtures, installed cable and phone hookups, etc.

This company does NOT give quotes over the phone and they charged me a $50 trip charge to come out to my house. The job was a 10 foot Box to AC HVAC and a few electrical rewires(no pulling). In my humble opinion it was a 2-3 hour job, and the quote was given from a chart of "fixed" prices. The quote was $600+. We were charged for the trip charge for no services rendered. I thought they were very professional, prompt, and had people to do the work in a timely manner. I would hire them again if I HAD TO HAVE a job done NOW, and price was no object.
