Johnson's Tree Care won the bid. They quoted a reasonable price with detail of the work they would perform. They also made recommendations on care and maintenance of other trees and shrubs on our property. Mike and his crew are professional, experienced service providers and performed as such. We were able to schedule without problems, and they arrived and completed the work on time. They were respectful of our concerns and needs, and performed all work exactly as quoted. I would not hesitate to recommended Johnson's Tree Care to our friends and neighbors.

We contacted numerous tree care companies to come out and provide a quote. Johnson Tree Care came out quicker than anyone else, and worked up a quote to remove a large Siberian Elm from our front yard. The price was right, so I called them to approve of the quote. Finally, three calls and over a week later, I got a hold of someone to tell them that I wanted to go with the quote. The guy asked if it would be OK if they stopped out "in a couple of weeks". 6 weeks later, and the tree is still there. I've followed up with them 3-4 times, and have yet to receive a call back, or speak to any one other than their answering machine. Finally, today, I had enough and called to tell them that I've hired another company to do the work. Here's the kicker, though. All of the companies that I've had quote the work since Johnson's failure to perform it (all with ISA certified arborists) have told me that I would be crazy to take the tree down, and that it just needed some good trimming and a pesticide application. ALL OF THEM said this except Johnson Tree Care.I can't speak for what kind of work they do, but their customer service was truly awful. Judging from the many positive reviews out there, I'd like to think that I'm the exception to the rule.In the end, I ended up saving a lot of money and my tree by going elsewhere.

Last fall we bought an older home with a quite overgrown lot in Madison and got several bids for tree removal and pruning. We settled on Johnson Tree Care, and are very very pleased. The work was fairly extensive, including removal of a huge, half-dead siberian elm (trunk easily 3 feet across), 4 overgrown arborvitae clumps (+/- 20' tall), a spruce and several huge old shrubs, as well as very extensive pruning on 6 mature and rather neglected trees, including maples, catalpa and poplar. Mike was great to work with: clear, responsive, flexible and quick. The crew was skilled and efficient, left us a bunch of wood chips (as we requested) and also a lot of cord wood. The removals were done carefully and completely, and the pruning looks good and should really help the trees to thrive. I'd work with them again in a heartbeat.

It was good service for the price that was paid. We dealt with the owner, who we have dealt with before. He is professional and honest. He kept an eye on a specific tree over the summer and really tried to save the tree the best he could, but we eventually had to remove it.

This went just perfectly. They were able to do the job before they initially said they would. The position of the tree was such it was easier to trim from the neighbors yard. They checked with them. The tree looks terrific and there was no sign they had been in either yard. I would definitely use them again.

They responded promptly, gave an accurate estimate and did an excellent job of removing a tree that was too difficult for several other companies. He worked. with us on the price and honored the Angie's List coupon. He did some additional work at the site at a reasonable price, and did a great job on clean up.

While we didn't choose to go with Johnson, I would highly recommend him and consider contracting with them in the future.

This particular tree had four huge trunks (14-18 inches diameter) and two of them have been gradually leaning as if to fall (and it's diseased). One trunk was resting on my neighbor's fence, and most of that trunk was hanging over their yard. So it wasn't an emergency/urgency, just wanted to get it done before it fell and destroyed the fence or power lines, etc. I contacted a few tree services in mid-November. Johnson's was the lowest bid and they seemed the most interested as they apparently had another job in the neighborhood. After we agreed to a price, they scheduled the take-down, which occurred about a month after I started the process. When I got home from work that day the tree was gone. It was located in a back corner inaccessible to trucks so they had to do it all by climbing with ropes (sadly, I didn't get to watch any of it). They spoke with the neighbor before entering their yard. They left the area perfectly clean, hardly any evidence of their having been there, which was quite impressive considering the amount of detritus they had to have moved. The person who contacted me seemed knowledgeable and did not try to sell other (maybe unnecessary) tree work.

I thought they were honest to admit someone else could do the work better.

Went very well. We had to wait for the right time of year to do the work, but the results were excellent. Work was done quickly and everything was cleaned up afterwards.

After some initial communication problems (Michael Johnson did not keep his first appointment with us for an estimate and did not call to let us know he wouldn't be coming), in the end, we hired him, mainly because of his price. His crew turned out to be outstanding, they did a great job, and we're happy we hired him. We'd hire him again.

They were very professional. They knew what they were doing. They were easy to talk to. It was very positive. It was difficult to get hold of them. I would use them in the future.

He was enthusiastic. and he cleaned up well after the job was completed. He worked very efficiently, and I was very happy with the service.

He’s very nice. It’s an arborist tree service. He’s very professional. He does not try and over sell you anything. He appears to be very honest. When the time comes we will use him to get that tree down. The price is well worth it. It’s just one of those monsters we planted ourselves and that was in 1994. It’s awfully large and it’s taken over the yard. It wasn’t so bad at that time. It has now developed a disease and I had to have something done. We planted all the trees ourselves at that time. We had somebody come out and look at it and give us some suggestions. We purchased the materials and planted ourselves. It’s been quite large for a long time. We hate to get rid of it because it gives us good shade but we don’t want it to fall on our house either. The tree must be forty feet high now. It’s huge and its branches are spread out like crazy. They said they would grind the stump down totally and we wouldn’t even know that there was a tree there. I thought the guy Michael who came out was very professional and forth right. He answered our questions and we plan on using him in the near future. We would use their services again in the future.

They did a very good job. They cleaned up after themselves and performed the job quickly. The time between the estimate and the actual service was delayed due to the extensive rain we have had, but as soon as we had a semi-dry day, they got to my trees. I had a special request to trim a tree back but not get close to my cranky neighbor's yard. They followed my request exactly.

Michael was very professional to work with. He gave me a time estimate to get the work done and then called me a day or two before they were going to be here to let me know when exactly they were going to do the work. The work was done to our satisfaction. We would use them again.

I contacted Johnson Tree Care because they had good ratings on Angie's list. They gave us a quote that was reasonable. I agreed to the quote. Then they scheduled a time to come out. Then they didn't show up. I called them, they didn't answer, so I left a message. They never returned the call. I called again the next day and the day after. They never answered and never replied to my message. I ended up using Accurate Tree Service instead and they were excellent!

Michael Johnson quickly arrived to look at the job, and provided a very competitive estimate on the spot. Based on his reputation for excellence and fair pricing, I committed to having him do the job. It took a while to schedule the tree removal, as recent heavy storms had knocked down a lot of trees in our area. When he and his crew arrived, I was immediately impressed by the sheer scale of the operation; they clearly had brought enough equipment and manpower to do the job properly. I was home the entire time the removal took place, and watching the operation was absolutely fascinating, you could sell tickets to this stuff! The tree was huge, with three trunks, and the logistics of it getting down without damaging any adjacent property were daunting. Given the location of the tree, it was impossible to use a cherry-picker, so a remarkably skilled climber did all of the cutting. The crew on the ground immediately cut up the fallen trunk segments and hauled off the wood. The skill with which the huge branches were made to fall just so was remarkable. In less than a day the tree was down, and the cleanup was so thorough you would never have known a tree removal had taken place. Amazing! There was only very slight damage to the lawn, and the grass grew back very quickly. The stump was ground in a separate visit, and that too went off without a hitch. Overall, this was an extremely positive experience. All of the crew acted with great professionalism and took care to respect our property. I cannot recommend Johnson Tree Care enough! (I've already contacted them to another job in the near future.)

One of the removed trees was bigger than the "cherry picker" could reach and they removed it with a climber (who started up higher than a two-story house) and ropes. Clean up was meticulous and ongoing throughout the job. As soon as a branch hit the ground someone ground it up. Also ended by "blowing" all sawdust/twigs from paths, sidewalks, driveway, etc. Even climbed on my garage roof and blew it clean. Very impressive. All work completed in four hours!

They came out when they said they would, had a nice work crew, cleaned up afterward. There was one large branch that I was pretty sure was dead, but they weren't so sure. They said that they would come back in the fall and take that branch down if it was dead. I wondered how hard it might be to get them to return when it turned out that the branch was dead come summer. They were very responsive, came to take down the branch in the fall with no hassle, no additional fees.

Yes, they had the best estimate so we got a good deal there. But the crew smashed up a small retaining wall we had underneath the tree which we felt could've been avoided. Mike (the owner) went and bought us new stones for the wall but since the wall is very curvy my husband had to spend a full day re-cutting the stones to fit the angles. Not to mention our once completely level wall now sinks lower than the adjacent pieces where large log pieces smashed down on it. And Mike is very hard to get ahold of and I found out when trying to work through some problems we had with our bill of services.

Mike was a hard to get a hold of at first. After a few rounds of phone tag, he came at the appointed time to give an estimate. He made a great impression. He seemed very knowledgeable and is very friendly and easy to talk to. I gave the OK for the work. Three weeks later he called with the day and time. He and his crew showed up on time and completed the work from start to finish in about two hours. Clean-up was spotless.
