He has a very good knowledge of trees. He was patient and took the time to answer all my questions. We jointly decided to remove one tree and trim several others plus trim some shrubs. On the day of the service, they arrived punctually. Mike was there to supervise his crew for a while and then left. No worries, the fellow who did the major trimming was knowledgeable in his own right, and I felt confident of his abilities. The work was done quickly and completely cleaned up. All of the crew were hard working and courteous. At the end, they even dumped the huge pile of wood chips so close to where I would need them that I didn't need to use a wheel barrow to transport them. Oh, and Mike returned before the job was finished to supervise and help. Even though my locust needed a severe pruning, it still looked graceful afterwards.

I just bought a house and I wanted to trim the trees around my house for health (I have a cherry tree that produces) and for appeal of the yard. The trees include several river birch, I believe a few maples, a few weeping fur trees, and an old apple tree. I didn't need all of them trimmed but they did a great job on the ones that needed it. Though I thought the price was originally quite high, the quality was absolutely on target. I also would have liked a bit more notice as to when they would get to my project, but overall I cannot let that downgrade the professional nature of their salesman, and the skill of their climbers. The service was excellent. Michael was prompt in calling us back. He gave us a quote for the service the same day he came out to talk with us. I had three other quotes from other providers and I had to wait a couple of days to get their quotes. Michael had the best quote out of the four we received. Michael and his crew were very professional, efficient and very caring about how we wanted the work to be done. The crew did an excellent job of cleanup once the trimming was done. Micheal is very knowledgeable. I would definitely hire him again and would not hesitate to recommend him to our neighbors and friends.

Excellent. They were efficient and of high quality. What I liked best was their communications. They listened well and asked questions. They also cleaned up very well afterwards. First class all the way.

We were very impressed with the services provided by Mike and his team. They obviously know how to handle very large trees in tight spots and did a fantastic job. The trees were removed in a timely fashion and the clean up was excellent. The tree in the backyard was difficult due to very limited access from the front of the house; however, they handled it very well by using an alternate route to dispose of the tree. We would definitely hire them again.

Not good at all. I contacted the provider to come give us an estimate on having the trees in our yard trimmed. He called me back right away the first time which was great. We set up an appointment for Friday, August 9th at 5pm. I got a message at 4pm saying he couldn't make it b/c something came up that he had to tend to. Stuff happens, I completely understand. So I called him right away and made an appointment for Monday, August 12th at 5pm. I rushed home from work on Monday and then waited and waited. Tried calling him just before 5:30pm to see what was going on and if he still planned on stopping by that evening. It's been almost a month and I have not heard back from him at all. Completely unprofessional and incredibly disappointing. We are obviously moving on.

I left two separate voicemails on two different days and never received a call back. Not happy.

I have been using JR's services to not only deliver but to also spread the mulch. They do a great job, are very processional, and leave the work site very clean. I will definitely use them again.

I had to call twice to at least discuss what I was looking for. He said he would stop by and check it out and let me what was going on and would provide an estimate. To my knowledge, he never stopped. I believe my first contact with him was well over a month ago. I have heard nothing, no phone call no estimate. I'm very disappointed as I don't want to lose my tree. If he is too busy, he should say so instead of wasting my time. Definitely a thumbs down on this one. I write fair reviews based on my experience; I did not receive a call back from the company. I would have liked a written estimate in my mailbox or put on my front door so that I would know that someone had been to the house. I would agree that this was a communication issue on the company's part.

Excellent! They were prompt in getting an estimate. They did all the work in one day and completely cleaned up the mess. Crew was courteous. Just nothing that wasn't the way it should be.

Michael was very kind and courteous. He took the time to explain everything his team did to make our trees look great. We have two enormous Locust trees that were towering over our roof, and he left about 10-15' of clearance. We also had two medium/large sized ash trees that he pruned, too, one that was hitting our chimney. He said we should be good for at least 5-6 years before another pruning was needed - I have a feeling our trees weren't pruned for many years before we bought our house (which was 4 years ago). I wasn't home when the work was being completed, but my neighbors remarked how much work Michael's team did in one day and how much of our trees really came down, which is remarkable since they don't looked hacked to death - they just look healthy and well-shaped. Well done!

Amazingly well. Three hours for a large job. Everything looked exactly as expected afterwards. I didn't need to be there or do any prep or cleanup. Based on my experience with several local tree companies, the wise move is to call a few places and see which is able to get back to you first. Every time and place the owner/manager told us he's call or be, he was, but the initial response to inquiries seemed slow or inconsistent from all the places I contacted.

It was a positive experience from start to finish. Mike returned our call almost immediately and we set up an appointment to meet with him. We told him what we wanted done and he explained very clearly what he was going to do. We've never used a tree service before so did not know what to expect. Mike set us at ease by explaining everything. The day before he was scheduled to do the job, he called. He called again the next morning to let us know he was on his way. When he arrived, he and his crew went to work immediately. They did an awesome job! They did exactly what was asked, and then some. I had not asked them to remove some additional stray growths but they said 'no problem". They took care of it and did not charge me anything. The job was very well done and reasonably done. They were professional and friendly. What more can you ask for? I recommend them highly!

I found Michael's promptness and really thoughtful attentiveness during the quote process quite striking -- he clearly has a concern for tree health and aesthetics, as well as safety for people and property, and balances all of those well. He listens well, and is not at all pushy about ways to proceed (in our case, we talked through removing the big hickory tree or trimming it back to reduce weight from some side branches; he did not pressure us in our decision either way, just walked through the various issues/considerations on each side). His pricing was very reasonable, and we were able to line him up quickly. Come tree care day, he and his folks were right here when they said they'd be, got everything done exactly as agreed, and cleaned every last bit of mess up impeccably (it seriously looks better than before they came). In addition, they were kind enough to cut some "wafers" off the trunk for my kids, who are sad to see the big front tree go. This is a skilled, hard working, and nice group of folks. I TRULY recommend using this business!

I called Johnson Tree Service because of the excellent reviews I found on Angie's List. The man at Johnson Tree Care sounded eager to work with me, and said he would be out to the property, possibly even that day. I wasn't sure that he came, so the following week I called back to check in with him. I got the answering machine and, I got no call back. I was very surprised by their lack of follow through. It has now been two weeks. A call back to tell me they were too busy to take my business would have been fine, but I got nothing.

Mike Johnson met me at the property for an estimate. He was going to be late, so he called to let me know. I really appreciated that. He answered all my questions. I felt confident that I was speaking to knowledgeable arborist. He gave me a proposal before we parted company. I requested his certificate of insurance, but have not yet received it. The work was done during the course of one day, and when I inspected the work, it met my understanding of what we had agreed to.

Big snow storm hit Madison with 16 inches of snow and downed a tree next to the house blocking the driveway. My tenants were blocked in & needed to get to work so I called Johnson Tree Service. They came fast and did a great job. I will use them again and would reccomend them to anyone who wants excellent quality work. These guys are professionals and do a professional job. Easy to work with and are reliable.

I had used them in 2008 so called again about some hanging branches on my largest tree (an ash). Mr Johnson was busy over Thanksgiving and took a while to call back, but then was able to survey the property and do the job the next day (as he happened to have a crew working on another property in the vicinity). He inspected all my trees and gave advice about what needed to be done for three of them, which I gladly accepted. I didn't go price-shopping or even use the Angie's List coupon as I thought that the price sounded perfectly reasonable. I'm happy I had the work done before the blizzard of Dec 20!

Mike did some work for us last fall and we were very happy with his service then--they were vey thorough and cleaned up our yard after removing a large number of weed trees in the pouring rain. They even got some tree branches that had grown between our fence, a very hard thing to do because I tried it. After the blizzard of Dec. 20, our Arbor Vitae's branch fell on our roof. Mike came out to look at it the day we called him. He advised us to have it taken down, and we agreed. He came today, and took it down quickly and cleaned it up right away. I think they are very efficient, professional and I will definitely use them again!

Everything went very well. No problems. The owner arrived with his equipment and a two man crew on time. The owner was very skilled. He did all the cutting. I was very pleased with his work.

Mike was ver accomodating and knowledgeable about the trees on our property. This being the first house my wife and I have owned, we had no idea how to properly care for the trees or even whether some were in dangerous states of needing to be trimmed or not. Mike explained everything in a simple way and made suggestions without being pushy. That was the best part of the entire experience, Mark gave us options and explained the pros and cons (and cost) of each, but ultimately let us decide what we wanted to do with the yard, whether that meant removing trees, just trimming, or even an advanced cabling system to help long term health of the trees. Once my wife and I decided we just wanted to have each tree trimmed, I called Mike back up and we were able to negotiate final costs and work timing with relative ease. It only took their crew one day to completely trim all 6 of the trees we wanted, and they look absolutely incredible. I was skeptical about tree trimming in general because I wasn't sure how much could actually be done while maintaining the good looks and shade of the trees. I was blown away. They will be my go-to choice for any yard service I need in the future.

Mike was right on time for the estimate and the estimate was fair for the work. He and the crew were on time on the day scheduled for the work. Crew and equipment seemed more than adequate for the work to be done. The work went well, the clean-up was fine. They arrived at 8AM and were gone by 2:30PM. We were very satisfied with the whole experience.
