The man that came to explain the system and give us a quote was informative, and showed us we didn't need to spend more money to achieve our heating and cooling needs. He showed us that the right system for the issues we had would do everything we needed. He was right. They also came on time, did a professional job, explained the new system thoroughly, and did the job in a timely manner. I already have recommended them to friends. Great job!

We are probably going to be using them to install a new boiler. They will be used again. They are pretty pricey. One guy really annoyed me, but they were great. When you buy new stuff, you get rebates. They do have a service plan that is available for $100 a year. They would come out twice, at least in the spring and fall to check your furnace and AC. If you ever have to call them out, you don't have to pay a service charge.

We didn't compare a lot of prices because it was kind of an emergency but I think it was a fair price. I don't know how to judge the quality of the furnace because I don't know how it works. It has not been long enough that there have been any problems yet. The furnaces are good, they work fine. Two people came to complete the service. They made the appointment, showed up when they said they would, got done faster than they thought they would and cleaned everything up. I am good with it. They left the area cleaner than they found it. I use them all the time.

The issue revolved around something that could have been much more professionally handled and that was they didn't apply for the permit until after they've done the job. The sales guy told me that everything was fine because the criteria is that it was an air conditioning unit that I was turning into a full season room. What he said is that you don't need a permit because it was a back side of the house and the station is more than 10 yards between the two houses then you're fine. So, three days after they installed it I get a phone call from where I live and they said they had just put in a permit request for a heating and air conditioning unit and I said they had already installed it. I was upset because they lied to me and so it was not professional. They did an okay job in terms of installing it and it's working fine but I was very upset with that situation and the salesperson never came back to my house again. The other thing that upset me was the sales guy said to me the fact of having it remote controlled and we actually got to the people that installed the unit they came to the house and they were very confused about whether there was going to be a remote control in that. They were also trying to get the blame on me for the permit or trying to take the blame away from themselves. My overall experience with the company was pretty negative.

Response from WEST ALLIS HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING
We generally apply for the required permits for residential equipment installation on the day of the job. This is our practice for two reasons: 1. if a job cancels, most municipalities will not refund permit fees; 2. most municipalities require a sketch of where the outdoor air conditioning unit will be placed; so we feel it is a good practice to offer that choice to the consumer the day of the job so they can get a true visualization of the units appearance in the desired location. There was a miscommunication on that job as far as a municipal ordinance which was changed approximately one month prior to the units installation; our comfort advisor was aware of this change and our installer was not. There was about one extra hour of time involved on the day of the job getting clarification on this change. The customer was not billed extra for this time and the job was still completed in one day as promised. I apologize for the miscommunication but ultimately the unit was installed in the originally agreed upon place. We always try to give the customer the best possible experience with our company, I'm sorry this customer does not feel he had a good experience with us.

having a new patio poured needed a/c unit disconnected and reconnect when patio was done. When I asked the tech what the total cost would be he told me 1200.00 dollars! Because I had to have the A/C disconnected at least,I said how much for just the disconnect, they said 500.00. Went and talked to manager at office and he said he would have to talk to the service tech and see what he actually did and would get back to me.He did call me back and said I was overcharged. They sent me a check for 250 dollars for overpayment.

It was 4:00 on a Saturday evening when my husband starting calling for repair of our furnace that had been out since the early morning hours. By 4:30 p.m., West Allis Heating and Air conditioning had a service professional at our home. Repair required parts that weren't easily accessible for the complete fix, but WAH&AC was able to replace the ignition switch, thus restoring heat to our home. The remainder of the repair was completed the following week easily in less than 45 minutes. The service was fast, thorough, professional and extremely helpful regarding the future care of our furnace. It could have been a huge cost for emergency service over a weekend, yet the price was incredibly reasonable. Thank you!

The unit in the condo is a self contained combination furnace and air conditioner, Due to a very noisy induction motor, I decided to replace the entire unit rather than just replace the motor. The unit is located in a clothes closet in the bedroom, and has very little room to work on the unit. Jason and Zach arrived on time, were very professional and knowledgeable. They took extra care to protect my hardwood floors. Everything was cleaned up afterwards. Jason explained thoroughly the operation of the system, and routine maintenance required,

This is the one that's kind of hard to do, because I used to use a different vendor who is no longer in business. I have seen these advertisements in the mail and also noticed they were on Angie's, and have been getting fairly good, A ratings, but I wouldn't have given that basically. And they had 4 trucks at one time here, because there were two units, so I just assumed they needed a bunch of guys. But to be honest with you, they had 5-6 guys working on the units, and when we went downstairs after they were installed, it was like a fan was blowing on us. That's how much air was leaking out of the units in the basement and I was like, I am not paying to air condition our basement, it's already cool anyways. So we took one of these lighters for the grills that you can just press. I put them all the way around the units and it blew out the flame every time, the whole time. So it was leaking a lot. They also told me that if we put the heat on the heat is going to come out too cause it's all connected, and I went Holy Cows, and we had it before and never did that. I mean we had a comparison. So I went into the guys labs and then I called and asked to speak to the owner, of course they didn't put him on, it was somebody else on. But they were very accommodating to my needs and I was very nice to them. I said, I just really want somebody, the management to come around here and take a look at what I've got here because I want you to tell me if this is what you would want in your home. You know I just wanted them to come out and take a look. I don't want to cause a lot of, but they were very nice guys. They cleaned up after themselves and just did the job really fast and maybe that's what the problem was. This guy came back the next day and I went downstairs, and showed him that and said so, I need your opinion, is this expected? Is this the kind of work that we should expect? I said, is it supposed to leak air that much? No he said, it's a tad much. That's his exact words. He said that's a tad much, means that's a lot. Well, I had toyed with doing a review and also posting a picture because all of my two units look like now have silver duct tape surrounding all the units, both units. so it looks like a patched up job, you know? It's really holding the air, these little strips of metal tape. So, I really wasn't impressed.

It went well as far as getting the furnace AND central a/c back up and running. There seemed to be some wiring issues and a short circuit at the control/circuit board at the furnace causing a couple issues on both units. Anyway, we discussed the troubleshooting and the tech/sales guy Mario insisted there was also an a/c leak near the coil at the furnace. I asked, and quot; How do you know this?and quot;. He said, and quot; You do, because after hooking up to and checking the freon level shows lower readings.and quot; Ooo-kay... He had said we normally have to use an electronic and quot;snifferand quot;, but I'd have to charge you another $100.00 for that. Ooo-kay... Briefly, we did express an interest in quotes to replace both units for Lennox higher efficiency ones. He knew it. And, he had gone into a and quot;hard, high pressure sales modeand quot;. This was really a huge turn off for me. I hate someone who tries to use high pressure tactics on people, like holding a gun to your head. He stated that IF you don't sign on today, before their 6 pm closing time that we wouldn't get on and quot;the scheduling boardand quot;. The June 13th rebates cutoff date for Lennox's deal. I won't succumb to that kind of pressure. When I had asked him how he's going to determine the proper sized NEW gas furnace, he just estimated I need a 90,000 BTU. In other words, NO manual J load calculation was going to be done to determine proper sizing and so on. I also understand many contractors won't do this either which is a recognized industry gold standard. I think that many want to get in and get out. Selling it to you quickly. We did use them before on a service call with no heat last fall on a very cold day. They did take care of us quickly though. I have mixed feelings now about this company. We've decided NOT to buy new a furnace and a central a/c from them.
Description of Work: We were have a problem with our nearly 21 yrs. old Heil central a/c unit. It wouldn't start up. And, neither would our 18 yrs. old Trane XV80 we just had West Allis repair from last November '13 on a different issue involving a bad circuit board.

Response from WEST ALLIS HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING
I appreciate your kind words about the service you received in fall and apologize for any discomfort you felt during this recent visit. There is no excuse for use of any tactics that may result in a customer feeling pressured. Our technicians are not trained in sales and therefore may not be as tactful in their presentation as a salesperson would be. They will give a diagnosis of any immediate, or potential future problems that may arise, so that you can make an educated decision as to whether replacement is the best option for you. They will also detail what your options are and give their professional opinion on the best course of action. Unfortunately rebates have deadlines...they just do. Our technician had the impression that rebates were very important to this customer. In order for us to get those rebates the installation had to be scheduled by June 13. That is the manufacturer's deadline, not ours. When approaching a rebate deadline we get a large amount of customers wanting to schedule their installation during the qualifying period for the rebates. With June being one of our busiest months of the year, there is often limited space on our schedule for installations during the rebate period. We are often in a difficult position because most EVERYONE wants to let the weather decide when they should replace their heating and cooling equipment. It is impossible for any contractor to accommodate everyone all at once on those extremely hot or cold days. So we try to encourage people to do preventative maintenance and to replace equipment before an emergency breakdown. Sometimes it makes sense to do this right away because of the current rebates being offered. We have built our reputation on reliability, honesty, professionalism and technical ability. Your service in fall was clearly a better representation of this. Again, I truly thank you for your positive feedback about that experience. I appreciate your past business and ask that you don't hesitate to contact us if we can be of service to you in the future. Sincerely, Daniel Eaton, President West Allis Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc.

They answered the phone, and they called me back. We had a little bit of a problem with the quote, the guy who came out was nice about it, but I didn't understand what I was getting, and I cancelled. The owner called me, and he explained what I was getting. I told him that I didn't understand what I was getting, and he explained that I didn't understand what I was getting. He explained that I was getting the top of the line, and the guy giving the quote told me that, but he didn't tell me exactly what I was getting so that I could research further, and that was the only problem. I get that a lot from these bidding processes, they give you a very generic quote, and after they leave is when you wonder what they were getting. They were very prompt, they were very clean, they were very professional, and very nice.Their price was within everybody else, they weren't the lowest. They gave me 3 quotes, and I picked the highest. Everything looked great with their work, and they have been very responsive. That was one of the reason that I picked them, the last people who had worked here were not responsive. West Allis were here when they were supposed to be here, and they were very professional.

They got us in within 4 days considering the holiday which was great. They did call my husband to let him know when they were on the way so that was also a plus. I didn't like that when I called to see if they gave a discount for Angie's list members and the girl Jessica actually chuckled at me and said "that's the price" which I was a little put off about her attitude. Other than that, it was a good experience.

Called West Allis Heating and Cooling at 5am on Monday morning for an emergency service call. The tech called back at 7:30am and asked if West Allis Heating and Cooling had ever serviced our furnace in the past and when I told him I didn't think so but the the furnace was here when we bought the home so I wasn't sure if they had been here for service with the previous home owner and that's when I was told that if they hadn't been here for a service call in the past that he wouldn't be able make a service call until later in the week. The outside temperature was 24 degrees at the time.

Response from WEST ALLIS HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING
The member called us to put in a repair request at 5 am Monday morning. She was called back at 730 am when the office opened by an office person, not a technician. When it was determined that we had never serviced the equipment before (she has owned the home for 9 years) she was made aware that our soonest availability was Wednesday for a nonregular customer. This was due to the fact that our schedule for Monday and Tuesday was full; with not only regular customers, but also nonregular customers that had been waiting for service through the weekend. We always give our exisiting customers same day service no matter what the circumstances are. That weekend was the first cold snap of the year (it was also opening weekend of deer hunting). Hundreds of our regular customers were serviced that weekend; many relationships were also formed with new customers who were willing to wait a day or two (most of them couldn't get a hold of their "regular guy"). Those new customers knew that by waiting they would then join the family of existing customers that are entitled to the prompt, efficient, same day service our regular accounts have grown accustomed to. I am confused that this person would find it so hard to fathom that we have to take care of regular accounts before taking new business on. Our regular customers are the reason we've been here 54 years; open all year round. The office person was not rude to her; just very matter of fact. I wonder if she wrote a negative response like this about her "regular heating guy". I wonder if she could get a hold of him. I know that many reputable firms were in the same situation we were in; I personally fielded calls from people who referred to us by competitors to see if we could " squeeze them in" because they couldn't. We are all human beings and we "squeezed in" as many people as we could. I guess the lesson learned here is to establish a relationship with a reputable heating company so when emergencies arise you can get the service you need in what you perceive as a timely fashion. In conclusion, we will always prioritize our existing customers; I dont believe that is poor service; I believe that is excellent service. Dan Eaton President West Allis Heating

As our luck would have it, a blustery COLDER November day with forecasted temps to steadily fall even further within the next 48 hours. And, no HEAT in our home. Just a furnace blower motor spinning throwing cold air out. This company came on a short order, did a very quick accurate diagnosis, got the parts very quickly and came back and voila! A satisfactorily completed repair with normal heat again! What a life saver. We had called one other company we had used before for furnace services. And, they had said that they couldn't get out to help us the same day. I think we may have found a far better, newer service oriented company for our furnace needs in the future. We were quite pleased on the responsiveness in such a dire situation.
