I did a total house renovation and an addition on a 1960's ranch that had about 500 sq ft of just unused space and a kitchen the size of a closet. My taste was open concept and functional use of all space in a minimalist shaker style all natural wood style. The design was outstanding and perfect and exceeded my expectations. The tradesmen were great. All issues that came up and they always will regardless of who you use were handled, fixed and the resolutions met expectations.

This was the second time having Sj Janis to our home for a relatively large home design and remodel. After setting up a time a representative named Casey came to our home. We don’t know if he was having a bad day or just disinterested in our project, however, he looked befuddled and upset. He certainly did not make our project feel important. After showing us a few other projects that we had no interest in he wanted to know more specifics about our project. After walking around 10 minutes he then said that the cost of the project, off the top of his head, would be approximately $150,000. He told us that the plans for the job would be $6000. He then asked, after 15 minutes of talking, if we were ready to move forward. Casey’s entire sales speech had lots of pressure. He was really thinking that 15 minutes of talking about our project was going to make me want to hand him over $6000 on the spot? Then when I started to ask a few questions Casey told me that , “ We should book right away because their Spring schedule will book up just like that.” I did convince Casey to run a few more numbers for us so we could be more precise on things before committing. He agreed to do that. He did call back at the appropriate time, however, with a new bill $20,000 higher. And then he wanted to know why we balked at just giving him $6000? Casey never did call us back like he told us he would after we started to show concern with the budget. I am giving this review an F not to be rude. We were quite surprised about what happened having been referred to this company. But Casey’s disinterest in our project from the start, the “buying a car pressure game” that Casey pursued with us followed by not following up when he said he would really left us feeling with a sour taste in our mouth.

Description of Work: Requested that a designer schedule an appointment regarding a laundry room remodel. The laundry room is large for a laundry room. The request was made in writing at the Nari home improvement show. It was either in late January or early February. I was told that someone would be calling me. It is now mid April and I've received no such call. Apparently they don't need any more business. My suggestion to others that want remodeling done to not bother contacting them since they won't response.

I'm really disappointed that I need to write a negative review for a company that typically comes so highly regarded. Perhaps our experience was an anomaly, but I think it's important to make others aware. I spoke with Nathan, Director of Sales, about adding a substantial addition to our home. He indicated the next step would be an in-person consultation in our home, which would take approximately 2 hours. We agreed upon April 5 at 4:00 PM, after having discussed that both my husband and I would have to leave work early, and would appreciate taking a minimal amount of time off work. Fast forward to today, my husband and I head home from our respective jobs early, arrange babysitter coverage to accommodate our appointment with S.J. Janis, and as of 4:10 PM, no sign of Nathan. I called to inquire whether he was en route and he vacillated between having no recollection of the appointment and apologizing for having it in his 5-part filing system, but being in the middle of a meeting and unable to make it. No offer to hustle over--despite being located about 20 blocks away. It really left a very negative impression on us--our leaving work early to only be stood up was one thing, but the dismal service recovery efforts were another.

I was looking for a contractor to do a kitchen remodel. When I approached the group at the home improvement show I was directed to their "Sales Manager". When we discussed my budget I indicated I planned to spend around $25,000. I was then told about a number of companies that we doing local remodeling jobs for around $45,000 who are now out of business. I was then told I should budget about $70,000 for the job. When I indicated our house was only worth about $150,000 I was told I needed to consider this a quality of life issue and perhaps I should consider doing this as a do it yourself project. I am not sure who will do my kitchen remodel but I know who it won't.

They were very good, professional, prompt, and the quality of there work was very good. We have not had any problems. They were quite expensive, but I felt that I got my moneys worth.

In 2005 I decided to add a 2nd story to my home. I was very slow in making my decisions. I was unable to add the 2nd story due to money issues (too expensive for the neighborhood). They were very good at helping me revisit my dreams to get the project to a more reasonable level. I like the current plan better than the 1st one. All of the contractors were very helpful at the walk through - discussing both low and high price options and pointing our where I can save money by buying things myself. We started working on the plans and will have a start date in May. I am very happy with my experience with their company.
Description of Work: Created 2 different sets of plans for my remodeling project. In 2005 I wanted to add a second story to my current home. When that plan proved too expensive, they did a design to enlarge the family room and master bedroom on the first floor.

THEY HAD TO START FROM SCRATCH PUTTING EVERYTHING IN AS WELL AS DO SOME PLUMBING AND ELECTRICAL WORK. THEY SUBCONTRACTED THEIR OWN DRY WALLERS WHICH I FOUND TO BE PRETTY LOUSY. MAIN DESIGNER KELLY WAS VERY PLEASANT AND PROFESSIONAL, BUT THE CARPENTER ANDY HAD A BAD ATTITUDE AT TIMES. SOME OF THE SUB CONTRACTORS WERE NOT VERY PROFESSIONAL.
Description of Work: THE WHOLE AREA WHERE THE HALF BATH WAS HAD TO BE TOTALLY GUTTED OUT AND HAVE A WALL PUT IN.
