In late 2011 my basement flooded due to a broken water pipe. I was devastated because i had just refinished the basement. I ended up contracting Service Master to do the clean up and repairs from the water damage. I was assured that the basement and my personal property would soon be brought back to their original condition prior to the flood. In early 2012 my insurance company issued 2 checks. 1 payable to both myself and Service Master for over $22,000, which I signed and promptly gave to Service Master for ?payment in full?. The other check for over $6,000 was issued solely to me to replace carpeting, painting and a dropped ceiling which I believed not be in Service Master?s realm of expertise. It turns out that there were quite a few things not in Service Master?s ?realm of expertise?. A new door that needed to be replaced looked as if it were cut to fit with a chain saw. All doors were never cut to accommodate the new carpet The base molding (where completed) needed to be taken off and re-affixed properly. The door casing(s) (where completed) needed to be corrected as well. The staining for the moldings and casings were billed for and paid for but never done. The cleaning crew seemed to be on a schedule that only they knew. The cleaners would show up unannounced and start cleaning when other contractors would be in the middle of a task or before a task was to begin, having to return and clean the same areas. This happened numerous times. Each time the cleaners showed up I was billed for their time and materials. The dry cleaner contracted by Service Master to clean all the clothes that were in the basement was never paid in full by Service Master. I am still receiving calls from the dry cleaner asking where his money is, and threatening me with legal action. I ended up contracting an outside carpenter to finish and fix all of the work that was either unfinished or needed repair. This expense was approximately $3,000 and came out of my pocket. 2 years later I got slapped with a law suit from Service Master stating that I owed $4,000 for above services. I contacted Service Master?s Corporate Headquarters and they told me that each Service Master is a franchise and Corporate does not get involved with legal matters. These are just a few of the mishaps I recall from contracting with Service Master. For the above and foregoing facts and record Service Master is a company that preys off insurance companies by doing extra unnecessary cleaning in order to raise bills. They Hire inadequate contractors and line their pockets by dragging people to court in order to get money that was not intended for them in the first place.
