Jordan, our technician, was very professional and did an excellent job. He kept our home very clean and protected while providing our service. He used shoe covers, floor protectors and a vacuum to collect any debris from the cleaning. Our home was spotless when he left. He was very courteous, knowledgeable and professional throughout the service visit. We had heard many good things about this company and we were not disappointed with our service. Royal Chimney Service does an excellent job.

It went very well, the service was explained to us as they went along with their work, we were impressed on their knowledge of their work and the smooth way they went about repairs and measurement of board replacement. The service repair men all worked very well together. I liked the timely manner it took them for the repair. Royal Chimney Service did an outstanding job for us. We requested them to look at our dryer vent after the work on our chimney and they cleaned a very thick clog of lint out our vent. They let our home spotless.
Description of Work: We had our chimney inspected both inside and outside, Royal Chimney Service spoke with us and gave an outstanding assessment of every thing that needed to be done, we could see most of it from the outside of our home due to boards that needed that needed to be replaced, primed and painted and measured to fit properly. Their description was very professional and easy to understand .

I called the office using the number off their business card, that they left when doing repairs at my dad's place. The woman who answered at the office was very pleasant and accommodating. She explained that they were entering their busy season and may take longer then normal to get someone out. I was actually surprised it only took about a week and a half to get someone out. I was able to meet Carter from Royal at my in-laws place. He gave me a call, when he was on his way. I was able to swing over to the house from work. He looked at the chimney top to bottom. He even provided me photos and explained what was causing the chimney to crumble. I was provided with a typed out estimate of the work that needed to be done. I put a down payment down, that day before discussing the project with the in-laws. Well let's just say I didn't end up in divorce court. The work far exceeded my expectations. We were also left with the piece of mind that we have warrantied work.
Description of Work: I recently hired the Royal Chimney Service to perform work on my elderly in-laws home. They have a masonry chimney for their furnace and water heater. I had noticed on a visit over the summer to their home that the chimney needed a little TLC. I could see pieces of the crown laying on the roof. The flue tile was also missing a corner. So I contacted Royal to come take a look, as I had them out several years ago for repairs at my dad's place.

I had a very good experience with Royal Chimney. This was in the middle of February when I notice water around the base of my Chimney downstairs. I called Royal and they came out to do an inspection of my chimney and found out that I needed a liner, because mine was deteriorating. He should me pictures that he took and explained everything to me. The tech was very professional and so was the masonry crew that came out to do the work.

Dave showed up at the beginning of the assigned time frame. After introducing himself and checking to see exactly what we wanted he got right to work. He found our chimney is good shape and ready to use. He did make some suggestions of work we should do down the road but did not pressure us to do anything. He left our house as clean as it was when he arrived. I would easily recommend them to my friends. When it comes time to do the things her did suggest I will call Royal again.

It went excellent. The work was exceptional, great technicians. The cleanup was great. I was worried about the exterior of my home as I had some landscaping done, but they did not touch it, which I very much appreciated.

Wonderful. The company was fair priced and the work was beyond expectations. They were able to dye match the bricks to the original 38 year old bricks that were out of production. The techs were very polite and their work area was kept clean at all times. We were concerned about our landscaping around the chimney but the techs were very careful about falling bricks. The chimney had to be replaced from the roof up, and I could not be more pleased with Royal Chimney Sweep, and the finished project.

I think this homeowner has us confused with another company. We did not do work for this homeowner. We were called out a couple years ago to confirm another report that his fireplace was not built properly. We confirmed it was a hazard and gave him an estimate to remove it and roof it over.

They are swindlers. They were twice the price for exactly the same job. I called them about it, and I had a quote from them from 10 years prior, and it was the same quote but it was $11,000 higher. They were rude. I called them, they sent someone out, the estimate was not typed out like the one in 2014, I could hardly read it, and it was verbatim. I said it was $9000 more, and I had two other companies that come out and they said it was crazy. One guy said they started out well, and now they are charging people astronomically. I called them and spoke to the wife and she said that they will send someone out and the husband called and he was short and snarky. I warn people to approach them with great caution.
Description of Work: I got an estimate from Royal Chimney Sweep. The quote was for tuck pointing, and relining in stainless steel, and cleaning.

This couple threatened us two separate times if we did not do repairs proposed over 10 years ago for the same price they would go on social media and trash our company. Their chimney had deteriorated beyond the proposed repair from 10 years ago and we would not recommend that option for the current chimney condition. We told them we do NOT do business by blackmail and they were advised to get someone else to repair their chimney. We have serviced this massive 3 story chimney 6 times over the past 24 years up until our last free estimate in August of 2014. The homeowner was alerted the chimney had multiple vertical cracks to the exterior brickwork and the flue liner was cracked trapping moisture as well. She was advised starting in 1996 over 20 years ago, the chimney needed some repairs before it turned into a large repair. The homeowner was given 3 options for repair ranging in price starting at $4,500. When she contacted us two years ago we informed her the chimney had developed extensive vertical cracking and advised a more substantial repair to be done. She insisted on having the repairs done for the same price option as 10 years ago and we explained why just tuckpointing was not a good option to consider any longer. The homeowners fireplace flue liner that protects the brickwork has cracks and voids that needed to be relined along with the exterior masonry work. The homeowner was encouraged to get other estimates and call us with any questions. Our estimates were all free with no obligation. After servicing thousands of chimneys in Milwaukee over the past 36 years it was our opinion this chimney deteriorated to the point it needed service beyond just tuckpointing. We sincerely hope the homeowner is happy with the repairs someone else has done and the work is backed up with a lifetime no leak warranty. That is the level of service repairs our customers expect. Unfortunately all too often we are called on because a temporary quick fix was done and the contractor has gone out of business. When a chimney defect is improperly diagnosed and has to be repaired over again it becomes the worst investment choice by the homeowner We encourage all homeowners to get other quotes. We are not always the cheapest but we do quality work at a fair price. We also gave the home owner our credentials. Certified by the Chimney safety Institute of America, NARI Member, Licensed, Bonded, Insured, actual Office location not a PO Box, over 35-Years in business , A+BBB rating, A rating Angies List & more. We have had no contact with the home owner for 2-years and hope their repairs went well. We only wish them the best.

When the guy finished his job he left me with three estimates. The highest was $4202.00. I contacted the largest contacted in Ozaukee County, Wi., and they were shocked. The highest estimate I have received was $700.00 versus the $,4,202.00. They said on top of my fireplace exit I needed a new cap because birds might fly in the current cap. There estimate $500 plus a bit for a cap wih protective from the birds. you can buy one a Fleet Farm for much less, about $60 at most. The Chimney cleaning was fine, but they use it to scare folks into contracting for much more pricey services, even if not needed. Of course their response will be more of the same. They are good at selling pitches.

I gave the homeowner three options to repair from $582.00 to $4,202; it’s in pretty bad shape. This chimney has MISSING metal flashing, mortar joints popped out, bricks cracked, crown cracked, clay flue liner rotted out. It’s been tuckpointed twice before and mortar popping out again. The screen for his prefab fireplace cap has rotted off and needs an OEM cap per the manufacturer, one from Fleet Farm violates code for a pre-fab. We try to give the customer options and explain what to expect from proposed options. Customer said he had a retired friend that can repair cheaper. I did a follow up call with the customer this morning to explain my findings and mail him the chimney pictures. Was nice & took my time to discuss repair options with him.

Review of the internal Chim-Scan inspection of this fireplace chimney showed cracks and voids to more than the flue liner. The homeowner received an estimate from another company proposing a less expensive repair against state and local codes. We explained this to the homeowner referencing the code and how it applies to their fireplace chimney. The homeowner was advised to get other estimates from Certified chimney professionals, NFI Certified fireplace shops and contact the City of Shorewood building inspector to avoid a potentially hazardous situation to be installed.

I purchases a new home last year (2013) and were told the chimney was rebuilt a few years prior. After our first winter we noticed some flaking of the bricks and by spring we noticed our chimney was falling apart fast. Also our furnace went and would bang the liner which caused it to crack. We replaced the furnace but needed the liner to be fixed. When I called the company they came out the next Monday to do an estimate. The liner needed to be replaced, the chimney was falling apart in the tech's hand, ect. Well we got the estimate and a couple months later we had the repair done. Josh and Jordan were the tech's to come out and do the repair. They were here for 2 days and did a great job. The chimney no longer looks like if a slight wind blew it would fall. They came on time and went right to work. After the job was finished they cleaned up and it looked as if no work had been done, beside the great chimney rebuild!!

Meet the $ 9000 man.... We used the company a few years ago. At that time, two people came out. One went on the roof, one down at the fireplace. They swept the whole chimney and tuckpointed the chimney. This time a technician came out by himself. He layed out some cloth in front of the fire place and set up a vacuum cleaner. After a (noisy) while, he called me over to look at a display showing images of a camera that he had ran up the chimney. He pointed out some cracks in the mortar. He then asked to see the basement and noticed that the heater is evacuating in the second chimney channel. He pulled out the tube and shone a flash light in the whole. He then cleaned up and set that he would do the paperwork. At no point did he go up the roof. When he came he handed me the report, stating that a "Level One Sweeping" was performed and noting that we may want to think about addressing the cracks. As i was busy, had used the company before, I sign the invoice, paid and he left. Later that day, I opened the cover with the report and was in for quite a surprise. The title of the report was "Is your Chimney Safe?". Of course, it was not. He recommended: - Rebuilding the top of the chimney: $ 9000 - Lining the chimney for the fireplace: $ 9000 - Lining the chimney for heater: $ 9000 The top part of the chimney indeed needed extra attention and a second company quoted a rebuild for $ 2000. The 3rd company agreed tuckpoint the chimney for $ 200. We hired them and they did a great job. They also inspected the chimney, noticed the cracks but to them they were not an area of concern yet. As one put it "All houses in this (80 years) neighbourhood will have cracks." What matters is whether gasses would likely be able to enter the house or not.
Description of Work: We requested sweeping the chimney and tuckpointing of the top of the chimney as needed.

Response from Royal Chimney Service
The sweeping and Inspection of a chimney is a one man service. Sweeping and repairing the chimney a few years ago usually requires a two man repair crew, we show no records that we tuckpointed this chimney in the past. During the course of sweeping the chimney our sweep noted the roof was very worn and shingles buckling. To avoid damage to the roof a reverse sweeping was done and zoom in pictures were taken of the chimney exterior. Our technician noted that 80% of the chimney mortar joints were tuckpointed in the past and the flashing was also tarred over. Some of these areas were cracking and starting to separate again. Wanting to get to the root of the problem why this chimney needed tuckpointing every few years the technician Inspected the inside chimney flues using a Chim -Scan camera. There were numerous vertical cracks and the mortar joints between the clay flue tiles had eroded over the years leaving ½ inch voids between the clay flue tile liners. The customer was given pictures of these voids and chose to ignore addressing the root cause responsible for the continual repair to the chimney exterior. The liners have failed to perform their intended purpose of containing the by products of combustion such as excessive heat, condensate, creosote, and acidic gases. The National Fire Protection Standard 211 states “ when a flue liner can no longer contain these combustion by-products it shall be repaired or replaced” to provide proper draft and protect the chimney chase (brick & mortar) from deterioration. This is the national standard of care for ALL chimneys accross the country regardless of when the chimney was built. The homeowner was given a breakdown of four different procedures for consideration to address the chimney issues. The Chim-Scan clearly revealed numerous ½ inch wide gaps in the liners horizontal joints and different options were given to address the two 40 foot runs of flue liner on a steep Gambrel style roof ranging from $9,972 to $1,030. Two of the options were well below $9,000 dollars. The homeowner chose to ignore the interior flue liner conditions and went with a much less substantial repair that will need to be addressed every couple of years as condensate will continue to be trapped between the flue liner and interior brickwork attacking this chimney from the inside out. The trapped condensation from the gas boiler and water heater exhaust is attacking this chimney from the inside out causing freeze thaw heaving of mortar joints and micro fracturing the bricks from the inside out. The lowest cost option many times proves to be the highest cost with continual maintenance and even more damage occurring. When a house is sold many times we are called on to do an Inspection to protect the buyer from an ongoing problem that was misdiagnosed. Over the last 34 years of servicing chimneys in southeastern Wisconsin we have found our customers appreciate our thoroughness of chimney Inspections so they can make an informed decision about chimney repair work and getting it done right the first time. All of our technicians are Certified with the Chimney Safety Institute of America and use Chim -Scan cameras to help verify the integrity of flue liners.

We had Royal Chimney come out to give us a free estimate. The estimator showed us pictures of the damage and left us with a written estimate. After some discussion and several estimates from other chimney repair company's, we decided to use Royal Chimney. Once our down payment was received, Royal Chimney contacted us to schedule an appointment to begin the work. The repairmen that came to my father's home did and excellent job. They also did not track any mess into his home. We would use Royal Chimney in the future.
Description of Work: The chimney was leaking water into the basement over winter. They examined my father's chimney and found a defective liner. They replaced the liner with a stainless steel liner. This appears to have done the trick.
