gutter repair, replacement windows

This was, and still is, a horrible experience. I signed a contract with Jason on April 12, 2012 and gave him a $1,900 deposit. The contract stated that work would begin on April 16th. Jason was made aware that I had painters scheduled to paint my house right after the 4th of July. He cashed the check the following day, April 13th. Jason never showed. We had an ongoing voice and text conversation where he always promised to come tomorrow. Finally, after the painters had finished, I found the 4 screen/storm windows that he ordered propped up against my garage. I had to find someone else to fit and paint them. Additionally, I've had to hire someone else to do my gutters. Yesterday, I filed a small claims action against Rienzi Building and Restoration, as all I've gotten for my $1900 is 4 windows and a lot of excuses. Do NOT hire this contractor!
Description of Work: Jason was supposed to replace 4 screen/storm combination windows, epoxy some other windows and replace the gutters on my house. All he did was leave the 4 new windows propped up against my garbage.

Rienzi did not want to get a permit from the Village stating that it was unnecessary. That was not true because I checked myself. Rienzi was suppose to work from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. -- this seldom happened. Mainly, he worked 2-3 hours a day. (He had to take his kids to school and coach a soccer team -- which he did not tell us.) He was suppose to have a crew of three but usually it was two (inc. him). He was suppose to be on site every day which he did not. He would leave for lunch and not return or not show at all. Although demolition of the paneling was ok, the installation of the wallboard/greenboard created a lot of debris. Debris and garbage (empty soda and drink containers) were not removed each day. When I pointed this out to him, he didn't understand the problem -- he said it's a basement. I explained that I must use the laundry room and we are tracking this stuff into the house. He left wood, (some with nails), his equipment, etc. any place including blocking doorways. His price kept climbing due to extra wood, extra greenboard, electrician, plumber. Finally, the wallboard was painted but the paint barely covered the wallboard and some areas that should have been painted were not. My hunch is that he was trying to stretch the paint out. He (or his helper) applied rubber wallboard that was apparently not glued & started falling off. The floor (tiles) was "cleaned" with no cleaner -- just pushing dirty water around. He was constantly going to Home Depot due to his poor estimate of materials needed. In reality, we got him out of the house by paying for grossly inferior work. (I knew it was a strange situation since he deposited my checks almost before the ink dried!) Since Rienzi left, I have mopped the floor four times (with cleaner and an electric mop). I have had to scrape dried paint and paste off the floor. I swept up a 5 oz. cup of screws and nails that were on the floor. Rienzi had left exposed nails in a cabinet that brushed my hand but didn't break the skin. While clearing off stuff that he left on top of the refrigerator -- an expanding nail just missed my head. My husband went around the basement to remove and/or hammer in exposed nails. My husband is repainting and/or touching up the paint and regluing the rubber molding. The white trim that Rienzi used was apparently old. It was dirty, scraped etc. My husband is repainting some of the trim. This project started in August and ended in October 2010. It will take us 2 months to correct Rienzi's messes. I could go on but suffice it to say that Rienzi's work is inferior, sloppy, unprofessional, and incompetent.
Description of Work: Our basement rec room was flooded in July. All of the paneling, cupboards etc. had to be removed & walls built with wallboard. The job included painting, etc. My husband selected Rienzi because he is a small contractor (wants to give them a break) and his estimate ($4200) was the lowest. We have had many contractors (kitchen and bathroom remodeling, window installation, landscaping, roofing, etc.) but never have we had an experience like this. And, the low estimate was not the actual outcome.
