The overall experience was good. We were surprised at how fast Dave worked and how professional he was. It was soooo nice to have someone do work who cleans up everyday before they leave. As most of us know, sometimes timelines set don't work out and a subcontractor doesn't show up when scheduled. It sure helps if you aren't left in a mess while you're waiting! That was never a problem with this contractor. From start to finish, Dave understood what we were trying to accomplish and helped us make it happen.
Description of Work: Dave came out to our home last June and gave us an estimate to re-do our large bathroom. We already had the floor completed, a new toilet and vanity installed at that time. We had peeling wallpaper in the shower area and mold damage to the walls in that area.. The tub was also a problem because the finish was worn off the bottom. The tub/shower fixtures were in tough shape, we wanted the old medicine cabinet removed, and weren't sure what to do about ceramic tile vs. fiberglass in the tub area. Dave was extremely patient answering our questions and making suggestions. He explained things thoroughly and we had a quote within a few days. We felt the quote was fair and were comfortable with having Dave do the work. However, several personal situations arose over the course of the next few months which made it impossible for us to do anything. When things got squared away, we contacted Dave again and he sent us a new estimate after another visit and this time we got going. As a result, we have a beautiful bathroom with beautiful ceramic tile in the shower area over a refinished tub (looks great!). Dave did a great job of matching the floor moulding to the wood on the new vanity! He removed the old medicine cabinet and patched, resurfaced and painted the walls so they look terrific. He was here on time and was very efficient. The clean-up everyday was terrific! Dave did most of the work himself and arranged for any other work as needed. We are really pleased with the end result and would not hesitate to use him again.

He did an excellent job. The price was extremely reasonable. It is really beautiful. He used expensive wood. I would highly recommend him. He was efficient, timely and very easy to work with. He made suggestions and listened to what I wanted. If he thought something wouldn't work he would tell me. He was really good and he was a nice man. I would absolutely use him again.

Dave came out and was on time and very friendly. Unfortunate or maybe not when we tried to get the faucet to leak it never dripped. I had done some repairs the day before myself and that must of done something. Dave was very nice he didn't charge me for coming out and gave me his card if I needed further assistance. I would differently use him again.

We selected Labonte Construction after interviewing a total of 4 potential contractors. We chose Dave Labonte because we felt most comfortable with his proposal. Dave's proposal was not the least expensive, nor was it the most expensive, but he was extremely thorough in his explanation of what the price would cover and what he could not estimate at the time of proposal delivery. We already knew what the floor plan of the kitchen should be and had a good idea of the materials to be used. Dave's task was to take our drawings and wish lists and turn them into reality. His initial estimate was for the work to take 6-8 weeks and cost about $65,000 with any additional plumbing and structural costs to be determined once the walls were opened up. His design incorporated all my requirements and was true to the Arts and Crafts period of the house. When we saw the gutted kitchen after the first day of demolition, we were a little scared of the mess of plumbing, electrical, and structural problems exposed and how much more it might cost to fix. The total for the extra plumbing and structural work was estimated to be about $5,000 which wasn't as bad as we feared. Dave subcontracted the plumbing work to Budiac plumbing and the electrical work to Brighter Connections. Both subs did amazing work. In fact, we hired both to do additional tasks that needed to be done in the house during the period they were contracted to work on the kitchen. I can't begin to say enough good words about the work of Dave and his co-worker, Leno. They arrived every day on time to meet with us in the morning to review the previous day's work and let us know the plan for the current day. Dave called me during the day if any potential problems arose and addressed all of my concerns quickly and thoroughly. The worksite was always cleaned and all materials put away at the end of each day. Even though dust is inevitable, Dave and Leno did a great job of keeping it to a minimum. Dave is a master carpenter and his skill showed in all the work he did. He perfectly matched and recreated the existing moldings and trim paint in the house, and the china cabinets he built into the walls are stunning! He worked carefully with the plumbers to ensure the rerouted plumbing allowed him to raise and level out the high ceiling in the kitchen and added a recessed area to highlight the main fixture in the kitchen. Leno did the tile work in the bathrooms and most of the kitchen walls and is a true artist with outstanding attention to detail. Working with Labonte construction was a great experience from beginning to end. I was extremely concerned about losing the one room in the house where I spend most of my time. Dave's team ensured that all work progressed according to schedule and stayed within his original cost estimates. He built temporary plywood countertops and temporarily mounted/connected the kitchen sink so that we could prepare the Thanksgiving dinner for all the family members who came in town to visit with us. Dave turned our dream kitchen into a reality and made the whole process as quick and painless as possible. We have received complements on how amazing the kitchen now looks and will call Dave first with any additional work to be done on our house. We give Labonte Construction our highest recommendation to any other homeowners considering a kitchen remodel.
Description of Work: The kitchen was built in 1914 and was approximately 20'x10'. It had to be completely gutted to the studs and subfloor. The all the existing plumbing and the gas line for the stove had to be relocated and in most cases replaced. A non-load bearing column in the center of the kitchen was removed and all the plumbing and electrical conduits it concealed were relocated within the ceiling and walls. The existing doorway between the kitchen and dining room was walled up and a new, more centrally located and wider doorway with French doors was created. The flooring in the dining room in front of the new doorway also needed to be repaired. The ceiling was at three different heights which concealed plumbing repairs done on the 2nd floor main bath and a very early expansion to the kitchen and needed to be leveled and hopefully raised. All the existing electrical circuits (some knob and tube) had to be replaced and brought up to code. Damaged studs in the northeast corner had to be repaired/replace. The subfloor had to be leveled. The overall layout of the kitchen cabinets was to remain just about the same. New cabinets of natural cherry were to be installed with quartz/granite counter tops and a quartz/granite under mount sink. A new Duraceramic tile floor was to be installed. Two built in china cabinets were custom made to fit into specified areas in the kitchen for additional storage. Speakers were to be installed in the ceiling to extend the stereo from the living room and a coaxial cable connection was to be installed so a television could be installed later. Since the plumbing from the 2nd floor bathroom was affected by the work on the kitchen, we decided to have the damaged tile floors in both bathrooms repaired/replaced.

We are closing in on the finish line and it went amazingly well. Dave is professional, responsive, and does excellent work. His attention to detail is amazing and he is sensitive to quality and price when advising on the project. Dave coordinated the work of plumbers, electricians, cabinet makers, etc. all while working side by side to get our kitchen remodel completed. Although we had the kitchen design in hand when we discovered Dave, if we had to do it over again we would have had him do the design and installation. He cares about aesthetics and functionality so the end product is a wonderful balance of both. Dave is an excellent communicator and kept us updated on a daily basis as to project progression, next steps, deliveries, etc. Because we were engaged in a complete house update, he also let in other professionals, accepted deliveries, etc. which allowed me to go to work without a concern. You can trust that Dave will work hard whether or not you are there and will call if he has any questions that you might want influence over. He is a busy guy -- but you can be assured your project will get his full attention in terms of getting it completed on time and on budget. All in all my husband and I love his work, his workmanship, and his easy going but particular nature. We would hire him in a heartbeat for further projects without question.
Description of Work: Dave, Leno and company completely gutted and remodeled our kitchen, updated a 1/2 bath, re-tiled bathroom and foyer floors, built in a bedroom closet/cabinet, built radiator covers, updated a fireplace mantel, built and installed living room cabinet doors, installed exterior doors (including doggie doors) and a few other miscellaneous projects related to the house interior. Essentially Dave was the "go to guy" for an entire household update on a 1928 Tudor/Provincial.

Dave began the remodel on Monday July 12th with the expectation it would take 3 to 4 weeks to complete. His end of the work was essentially done in just slightly over 2 weeks. There was a small delay in the last of the plumbing due to a torrential downpour that Milwaukee received on July 22nd (approx 7.5" in about 3 hours!...the plumbers were kept a little busy the next few days!) Everything was finished on Aug 2nd. Because this was the only bathroom in the house, Dave reset the toilet at the end of each day and installed a temporary shower in my basement. When I got home the first day I could not believe the amount of work that was done (the bathroom was completely gutted) or how neat and clean the bathroom and rest of the house were! The work was done so quickly, it seems they had just started and they were done. My bathroom looks fantastic now and I will definitely recommend Dave and his team to anyone who needs this kind of work done!
Description of Work: I hired Dave to completely gut and remodel my bathroom. Angie's list called me for a report after I had received Dave's bid but before any work was done. I indicated I was extremely please with Dave through the bidding process, but the real test would be in the work! The work is now done and I am just as thrilled!

We got 3 different quotes for this project. Not only was Dave's lowest, but we just felt best about the quality of work he would do--and we were totally right! He was fabulous. He did the work quickly, it was exactly what we wanted, and the price was great. We will definitely use his services again--we will need to overhaul our kitchen in a few years, and we plan to go with this company.

Dave was great to have on the job. You can leave him alone and dont have to think twice. He starts at seven every day and does quality work. I would use him in my own home as he is a true craftsman. If attention to detail is what you are looking for, Dave is the guy. He spent a lot of time making sure it was right and not just a rental quality job. The only negative is that it takes some time to get him in. He is often booked very far out (He does really good work). He always finds a way to get the job done by the deadline so this is not a problem for me.

He was very responsive, but he called me on the phone with an estimate, and I prefer something written. He gave me a lot of figures too fast. It was too much hassle, and I didn't like the way it was presented, so I called a different company. Based on his response when I asked him to break down the price, I felt that he was not interested in doing my job.

Response from LABONTE CONSTRUCTION
Upon completing my measurements and meeting with her, I asked her what the best way to get the estimate to her would be (by e-mail, phone or send it in the mail). She stated that phone would be fine. A few days later I received a phone call from her asking me if I had the estimate yet. I said I did and proceeded to tell her the cost. She then asked me for the cost breakdown, but I did not have my notes with me due to being on a jobsite, so I told her I would call her as soon as I returned to the office. That very same afternoon when I returned, I called her and gave the cost breakdown to her. She ended the conversation by saying thank you very much. I took that as the verbal estimate was fine and if I was to be considered for the job she would have asked for it in writing. I am interested in every job I look at and am sorry that I came across that way. I think all who use Angie’s List can see that our company always provides the highest rate of workmanship and customer service out there and that will not change. I apologize to her for the misunderstanding and in hindsight should have sent the written estimate after our conversation. At the end of the day I hope she will forgive my error and re-consider the hire again category for future work. Sincerely, Dave LaBonte, Owner

We happened upon La Bonte Construction through Angie's List and through the electrician (Brighter Connection) that we used from Angie's List. We couldn't be more positive about the boys and they're work. They are efficient, great craftsmen and very knowledgeable. Dave even researched our hot tub as well as maintenance and care of it. He was very flexible with the many changes and listened patiently to all of our ideas. We did most jobs on a time and material basis. Dave gave me quote for materials before starting any of the jobs and an hourly and daily rate so I had an idea of what cost to expect. They aren't inexpensive but worth every penny for their expertise and efficiency. The boys are neat and very easy to have in the home. We would recommend them highly. Our only frustration is not knowing about them sooner.
Description of Work: The main job that Dave an Leno performed was to rework our deck for a hot tub. But over the last couple of months they've done everything from installing a new closet, garage door, decorative moldings throughout the house, reworking an antique dresser in to a vanity cabinet and even feeding my cats!

I called Dave and he said he just happened to have a job in the area. He said he would call back after he finished that job which he estimated to be an hour. In 45 minutes he called and said he was on the way and was at my house within the next two minutes. He studied the situation, solved the problem and fixed it. He even took the time to explain to me what to do in the future. The entire process took just 30 minutes.

This was a truly excellent experience. Dave and his helpers were all easy to deal with and a pleasure to have in the house. They were careful to contain all the dust etc., cleaned up every day and protected our floors. They showed up when scheduled and completed the job in a reasonably short period. We are very, very happy with their work. The bath looks great: painting, floor, fixtures, moldings and all; the new areas of kitchen wall exactly match the old parts. The cost was exactly as estimated, with additional $ as agreed for extra moldings that we requested. The estimate was about 1/2 what we heard from other contractors. AND THERE WAS NO DRAMA from beginning to end!! There was no punch list that I remember and Dave cheerfully came back a few days later to install cabinets we ordered that did not come in on time. We would contact Dave again in a heartbeat for any kind of work he would do; kitchen, deck, whatever.
Description of Work: Dave LaBonte/LaBonte Construction installed a 1/2 bathroom in our former coat closet. He arranged for all the subcontractors and helpers (plumbing, carpentry, electric, HVAC), supervised all their work, arranged all inspections. He provided a couple of the fixtures. Dave was really awesome on this job. I had little time to focus on the project but had a clear vision of what I needed/wanted. Dave was always punctual, very clear about what he was doing and when, and did all the legwork for me. He also was creative about solving problems that arose as we demolished the existing space and saw what previous owners had done to cut corners. I would always recommend him as a general contractor. He not only was experienced because he does the work himself, he pays attention to detail, problem solves pro-actively, is totally honest and reliable, reasonably priced and creates an outstanding finished product. We also asked him to install a craft area in our basement - which he designed and built entirely without my direction - as well as storage cabinets. We have done LOTS of renovation projects in our time (3 houses and an apartment) and he is truly one of the best we have ever worked with.
