During the process of preparing my old home for sale and purchasing a new home that needed extensive updating I learned that contractors themselves know best who the best tradesmen in the area are. Dave La Bonte has assembled an "all star" cast of specialists that provide top QUALITY workmanship including electrician Rob of Brighter Connections, Paul of Budiac Plumbing, cabinet maker Skip of Country Craftsman, the very personable carpenter Leno and Jake of Infinity Roofing. They work together efficiently to get the job done faster and with greater quality than expected. All this at a very reasonable price that may not be an outright bargain but is certainly a good value. I needed a complete kitchen and bathroom remodel including demolition, porcelain tile floors, new custom cabinets with granite countertops, exterior trim repair, bedroom closets, a new shower and electrical and plumbing updating. When confronted with unexpected problems like water damage from a leaking skylight, Dave recommended installing a sliding door rather than replacing a window and it turned a bad situation into a better kitchen design. Dave and his team are young and strong enough to vigorously handle the job but experienced enough to bring judgment and innovation to the design. Dave and Leno were a pleasure to work with and always maintained a clean job site. Dave is busy and in demand so expect to wait a while before he can begin a major project. Take the time upfront to work with him on his detailed contract as he can be trusted to live up to his end of the deal. Expect about a two week wait from the time the cabinets are installed until the granite countertops are available from the granite vender (Summit Granite in this case). I am currently in this two week waiting period but expect to supply some "before and after pictures" shortly.
Description of Work: I needed a complete kitchen and bathroom remodel including demolition, porcelain tile floors, new custom cabinets with granite countertops, exterior trim repair, bedroom closets, a new shower and electrical and plumbing updating.

We initially had a hard time syncing schedules, but after we did, Dave came out with his cabinet maker and spent a lot of time with us looking at the space and making sure they knew what we wanted. A couple of weeks later (right when Dave said he would), Dave e-mailed us a bid for the job along with the measured drawings of the kitchen. We look forward to hopefully using him for our eventual remodel.

We broke ground on time on June 10, 2012 and although the architect of record made an error that changed part of the design and delayed the project for three weeks and during the delay it rained 15 of the 21 days filling the un-roofed shell with inches and inches of water dripping into our basement, our addition was finished on time. That alone was quite a feat! Once the project was back on track, things moved quickly. Each subcontractor was timely, skilled and considerate of our property and home when working at or in our house. If, because of the delay, there was a scheduling conflict, Leno and Dave, himself, would pick up the slack and fill in where they could. The quality of the work was great and the people coming in and out of my home for almost three months were very personable. The addition includes a 20 x 24 family room with a fireplace and a 10 X 7 ( 3 - piece) bathroom. It also includes a breakfast nook. The room opens from the kitchen which now creates the open concept feel between the two rooms. In less than three months our home went from an early 1950's cape cod to a fresh bright and modern cozy cottage. My favorite part of the addition is the fireplace. Dave custom built the fireplace and the breakfast nook for me. Dave and Leno also put in the hardwood floor in the family room. It is gorgeous. Dave has a real knack for assisting the homeowner choose amenities that are striking and tasteful. LaBonte Construction is the company to call when you are ready to put some updates, repairs or remodel or add an addition to your home. We plan on calling him again next year.
Description of Work: Dave LaBonte was the General Contractor who worked with us when we decided to build an addition onto our home. He had done work on our home previously so we knew his work ethic and that of his crew. And we trusted him to give us a fair price, be honest with us throughout the project (things always happen) and have the capacity to come up with solutions to issues and keep the project going. This was a big project. Our addition makes the whole house feel brand new.

LaBonte Construction, LLC removed our old built-in bookshelves and cabinets (approximately 8 feet high by 12 feet wide), and replaced them with new #2 cherry cabinets, bookshelves, and a TV cabinet. They subcontracted The Country Craftsman to build the new built-in cabinets and bookshelves. Dave Labonte from LaBonte Construction and Skip Brady a cabinetmaker/designer from The Country Craftsman came to our home to take measurements. Country Craftsman built and stained the bookshelves and cabinets at their cabinet-shop. Skip stained them to match our kitchen cabinetry. When they finished building them, Dave LaBonte and Leno, a LaBonte Construction employee, came to our home, and removed our old cabinets and bookshelves. This took about half a day to do. Then, the next day, Skip and several other Country Craftsman employees delivered the pre-built cabinets and bookshelves to our home. Next Dave and Leno installed them. This took a long whole day (about 11 hours).

My kitchen badly needed a make over and I wanted a former bathroom brought back as a bathroom so I checked out Angie's list and read about LaBonte Construction.. I contacted Dave around November and we met to discuss the project. I received a detailed quote from him not long after our meeting. The quote reflected what I felt at the earlier meeting that is Dave understood what we wanted done to the house . Dave also had some good suggestions as well he is a professional and is aware of the materials and trends that are available. Plus his quote was aline with our budget So on 2/8 the project started! The house is over 100 years old and Dave estimated a 8 to 10 week period. Both the kitchen and bathroom had to be completely gutted. Dave and Leno did this in 2 days! This was a dirty messing job and Dave managed to keep the dirt/dust to a minimum. And and the end of the day Dave made sure that things were clean. As things moved along, the electrician, plumber and heating people all arrived at the appropriate time so that the project was moving along and in fact the work was completed earlier than estimated. During the project we also had another contractor come in and install some Central Air. Dave was great in coordinating the work so that neither group got in each others way. Along the way our questions and concerns were quicky responded to. Everything turned out wonderful! You can see the quality workmanship in everything that Dave and his team did. Someone else had mentioned that they were impressed with Dave's painting and the quality of the cabinet work. We will second that! If you want the kitche or bath of your dreams, talk to Dave. You will be really pleased as what he can do!

Dave Labonte, Leno, and his team of subcontractors did an absolutely amazing job. Dave is a very honest, and hardworking contractor, and made the entire process easy on my wife and I. The initial bid was reasonable, and he stayed within that scope during the construction. He also completed the job within the timeframe that he initially set. It was a lot of work to demolish our outdated bath and completely rebuild it, and I can't stress enough how happy we are with the results. Dave takes the time to do things the right way, as does the subcontractors he uses, yet he also works very efficiently. They all were very respectful of the rest of our home, always making the effort to prevent messes, and cleaning up after themselves after each work day. We feel a bit lucky to have found Dave, and are already planning to use him again in the near future for other projects. We highly recommend Labonte Construction.
Description of Work: We had our master bathroom (circa 1958) completely gutted and remodeled. The original wall tile, floor tile, vanity, all fixtures, toilet, shower stall, etc, were all completely removed. Dave also removed and patched a very awkward window that completely obstructed the mirror. He masterfully built us a new bathroom that we are proud of. Custom double vanity, subway tile on the bathroom and shower walls, marble countertop, slate floor, travertine tile on shower floor, new outlets, fixtures, new exhaust fan/vent, installed new fixtures and hardware, fresh paint, etc.

Before the Holidays, I wanted to have a new entryway door and four interior doors replaced in my home as well as some other carpentry work done. I called Dave and he came to my home, gave me a solid estimate and the job was scheduled based on delivery dates of the materials. The job was a bit tricky because the doors and other carpentry work had to match existing moulding stain. But as Dave and his company did with our previous project, they did an excellent job of making everything come together perfectly. My husband and I are so happy, we definitely will work with Dave again on other future construction projects for our home.

Bathroom remodel that included: tear down and reconstruction of walls in alcove tub/shower area, new plumbing and shower/tub fixtures, new shower door, tub reglazing, removal of all old wall tile and replacement with new ceramic tile, new custom painted vanity, granite counter top, sink, sink fixtures, plumbing, installation of and venting for exhaust fan, preservation of original 1930's baseboard tiles and installation of new sconces. In choosing Dave for the bath remodel we were impressed with the original bid which included not only the exact name of the items and price but also the part numbers so we could look them up on the web. A very thorough contract from what we found out to be a very organized, detail-oriented perfectionist. Dave always checked with us on any decisions no matter how minor. We kept the original toilet but Dave replaced the old bad fitting bolt caps. The original floor was kept along with us wanting to try and save the original baseboard tiles. Dave took the time to carefully remove them, cleaned them up and reinstalled them. They look perfect. The custom vanity was painted and I can?t see a roller or drip mark on it. I wish Dave had been able to paint our walls which were done by a ?painter? and look awful in comparison. Dave and Leno were here promptly every day and worked continuously. They were immaculate in cleaning up and vacuuming every day. I did not see them take breaks even for lunch. One of them was always working in the house. Ferguson delivered a sink in the wrong color and Dave had a new one delivered the same day. It is rare to see someone with the work ethic these days exhibited by LaBonte Construction. They were meticulous in their work and they did the bathroom remodel as if it were their own.

Expertly completed!! Beautifully and faithfully reproduced to the 1914 Arts & Crafts time period. We love his work and attention to detail. The project was completed in the time frame and amount agreed upon. He even was able to save our old fixtures surrounded by a poor tiling job done previously. He takes his time and has great attention to detail work. We will never use any one else for our home reconstruction.
Description of Work: We were planning to totally redo our main floor powder room and since Dave LaBonte and his crew did such an excellent job on our total kitchen remodeling, it was easy to call on him for a the project at hand. As per his usual expertise., the project was executed in the time period promised with excellent skills in wall reconstruction and tiling as well as carefully saving our period sink and toilet in the reconstruction process. At our recent party the guests commented on how beautifully and faithful was the reconstruction to our 1914 style Arts & Crafts home. He also recreated an "arched " entry way with pillars, to the back of our home that our neighbors remark as looking it was "original" to the home. Dave and his crew are true craftsman to the highest degree. They communicate all facets of the project expertly and stay on the time line given. The thing that we highly admire is his punctuality, tidiness and immediate communication of any problems or changes that might be needed. After having had six projects ranging from small to major, we will never need to find another contractor for our home reconstruction needs. Our home is beautifully reconstructed to the 1914 period it was built due Dave and his crews excellent skills. We can't thank him enough. Bravo!! Dave and crew.

LaBonte Construction did some carpentry work for me in advance of house painting done last summer. We discussed looked at the shower/tub repair work at that time but we opted to hold on that work while we got the house painted. This year, I followed up with Dave in September for additional repairs to windows discussed above. All aspects of this work were handled promptly and in accordance with Dave's proposal. I asked for an estimate to go forward with the bathroom remodeling we had discussed a year and a half ago with the objective of completing the work by October 31. . He promptly provided he proposal. and when we reached agreement laid out the work for completon by 10.22, ahead of the goal for completion. We particularly appreciated the dialogue we had with Dave on the various options that could also be done while getting the basic tile work done. No pressure, instead a very evenhanded laying out of the options advantages and disadvantages of each. For example, one option he laid out was that of refinishing the tub. We had not heard of this approach before and ultimately decided not to go with it because it could not be done in the timeline we needed to complete this job. Ultimately, we likely will follow through and have the tub refinished. Dave and his staff were prompt, courteous and knowledgeable. Dave laid out a proposed work schedule, adjusted it to meet our needs and then followed through on it to the letter.. Dave and his staff did a nice job of getting set up, completing the work and cleaning up afterwards. ( The "bagster " was picked up within 45 minutes of the completion of the job !) Dave makes good use of phone, smartphone and internet to keep us informed and to confirm that the job was on track according to our expectations. Very professional. Very efficient. Dave and his team had to contend with our large (130lb) who didn't quite know what to make of what was being done in his house and they won him over ! I retired earlier this year. So, I was present for all of the work done on our home. Based upon all three of the jobs Labonte Construction has done for us, I recommend Dave and his team without reservation.
Description of Work: Two jobs: 1. September 21. Repair of rotted portions of moldings on picture window and three other windows including one storm window, as well as priming repairs. 2. Replacement of tile and plumbing in bathtub/shower. Removed existing tile and substrate down to studs. Removed and replaced existing shower/tub valve . Installed new tile backer board and waterproofed. Installed new ceramic tile. Cauked and sealed. Supplied "bagster" style dumpster for refuse from job.

From start to finish, the job was done right.
Description of Work: I had work done in my kitchen and breakfast nook to give them an updated and fresh appearance. I interviewed three other contractors and choose Labonte because of the straight forward honest approach Dave Labonte had when I met with him initially. He immediately picked up on my ideas and offered practical and helpful suggestions. His bid was not the lowest but I was certain his company would be the best for our home. I was correct. Dave and his crew were great to have working in my home. Each member was respectful of me and my home. I was very impressed with this. If there was a question about anything, I was consulted. The work was completed on time. And on budget. The work is wonderful. It is better than I invisioned and has made me want to update the rest of my house. Dave crafted a beautiful built-in breakfast nook which, because of his design idea, makes this area look twice as large. My husband and I are already looking at another project with Dave.

I needed a new baseboard to cover up where a door was taken out and the wall (textured plaster) was repaired. It was next to a radiator with a cover...and Labonte Construction suggested the easiest thing to do would be to make a radiator cover to cover over part of the baseboard, then replace the remaining baseboard. It turned out great... I was very satisfied.

We contacted Dave LaBonte after getting an Angie's List coupon for kitchen planning. He and Rick Heuer of Country Craftsman [cabinets] drew up a plan with estimates for each aspect of the job. My husband and I had a lot of questions, which Dave, Leno, Rick or their associates always answered promptly. We were very pleased with the end result, but also with the patience and professionalism with which Dave and the others treated all members of our family, even the dogs! There were no 'surprises' in the final cost due to the detailed estimates with various contingencies listed. Some items cost less, others a higher price, but we always got the credit [or charge] for the options chosen. We would certainly hire them for our next big project.

We got them through the Angieslist Big Deal to come and give us an estimate. It seemed to be that they were looking at high end. The plan that they had for us was like $35000. We paid like $92000 for the house. So for us $35000 for a kitchen remodel was way over the top. It was not even in the ballpark. They knew that because when they came back with the plan, it was just basically a sketch. We had got other ones that we didn’t pay for and they were much more detailed than what they provided. So it was kind of odd. Everything else seemed fine. Their responsiveness wasn’t really that good. They were on time. They never asked for our budget. They would have understood looking at the house at that point but they gave us an estimate that was way out of line.

Response from LABONTE CONSTRUCTION
I apologize for not asking for the budget right away. This is something I always do and apparently I neglected to do this for this person. I do not understand the responsiveness comment in the review. I returned messages and/or emails promptly and was always on time. I listened to everything they said regarding the scope of the project, and based the kitchen layout on their wishes. My cabinet maker who has been designing kitchens for over 30 years supplied a large scaled design shown from the top view. We don't present 3-D renderings unless they are requested. At no point in our final budget proposal meeting was I told to scale back the design or that the proposed budget was out of line. We are always happy to make any changes needed to accommodate the customer. This is why we have a design/budget proposal meeting. I do not know what people pay for their homes. I design and price projects based on what the potential customer asks for. We have always found that our prices are extremely competitive and, as Angie's list members can see, customers that hire us are very happy with our work.

Dave and his group of workers and subs did an outstanding job. It was obvious he knew them all very well and worked with them many times before. We feared this project would be very taxing, but Dave kept us informed of every step and accommodated every request. They were prompt, conscientious, professional and thorough. I can?t imagine it going any smoother than it did. We are very happy with the results! Also, the cabinets are outstanding!

The cabinets were made by Country Craftsman in North Prairie, WI. The job started 9/4/2011 and ended 11/4/2011. We were able to use the kitchen approximately 6-weeks after start.

All done on a timely basis reasonable price. good job and I would use them again. I particularly appreciated their willingness to take on an additional project at the last minute on top of what we had discussed as part of the estimate.
Description of Work: We had multiple outside carpentry projects that needed repair in advance of house painting. . We also had several interior projects to be worked at a later date. Dave spent a good deal of time discussing what we had in mind. He walked us through what was required and did a fine job taking care of the outside carpentry work we needed done in advance of painting the house.
