Moving today from an apartment to a house. Hired a company called Hungry Man Movers to move us all . They showed up and and walked out in less than 5 minutes refusing to do the job. Leaving us in a lurch because we had to be out of here by today. They are frauds !!! Don't hire them they left us in a mess and lied to us about everything!!!!

This summer family moved after living in our previous house for four years. We hired the same movers we had used before, Hungry Man Moving owned by Vern Snyder. There were no issues the first time, but that was not the case this time. Leading up to the move I gave him the best estimate I could. We also had help moving boxes ahead of the move date on our own into the new house’s garage. I asked if him and his team could move them into the right rooms from there, he agreed to it and it all seemed good. The first issue was when they arrived for the move they had maybe an 18’ moving van. The first time they moved me they had a 26’ truck that was at least a foot taller (when moving a house, that matters). It took one extra trip, which was an additional hour in cost for me. During the move Vern was ornery and rude, making comments about things that were unprofessional. He was especially upset when I brought up the boxes in our new garage saying that wasn’t part of the deal, even though we had exchanged messages about it. On the last load I was late getting to the new house (my wife was there). When I got the house I found out about the first damage to one of my reclining sofas and a wall. My wife has already paid him and signed an invoice saying everything was good (they hadn’t finished the move yet). We’ll get more to that later. After they left my wife and I began to find more damage including; additional damage to the one sofa, damage to the other reclining sofa, damage to our bedroom dresser, damage to my daughter’s dresser, and damage to the top bunk of a bunk bed. There was multiple issues with each sofa. We didn’t all of the damage the first night and when I messaged him with what we had found he was polite and asked how he could make it right. After I messaged him about the additional damage, his tone changed. He said we were being “ticky tack” and said he would give us $150 or we could take him to small claims. I never responded to that message. Before we had moved, I had hired a in home furniture repair company to come in and fix several issues with the sofas. So I called them up and they came in and gave us a quote for the damages. The “ticky tack” damages were over $1,200! Luckily for me the repair company was able to give me a sworn affidavit saying there was no damage to the sofas prior to the move. With the help of some people I began the process of getting everything together to file a small claim lawsuit. Doing my research I found out Hungry Man Moving was legally dissolved by the state in 2017. With that, it meant not only had Vern been operating the business ILLEGALLY, he was doing so without insurance!!! Other fun discoveries included both of his business addresses he listed were no longer rented by him. We had to use CCAP to find an address for him to get served the lawsuit. I offered him a settlement amount and he agreed to it without argument. We met at the courthouse to settle things and have me dismiss the suit. After doing this he sent me a message trying to guilt trip me for going after a small “mom and pop” shop and getting our move for free. The move was most definitely not free. We already had several things repaired and will be repairing what we can soon. I put at least 20 hours of my own time learning the process and filing the claim. Moving is stressful enough without all of this. The point of the post is to get the word out there: DO NOT HIRE HUNGRY MAN MOVING. Tell your friends, family, and anyone who will listen; avoid that “company” at all cost. We’re lucky that they didn’t get in a wreck transporting our possessions, otherwise we would be out of luck.

Highly recommend. Ordered a very heavy treadmill and needed it moved from garage to upstairs bedroom. Scheduled for the next morning after I called. They did job in less then 15 minutes and only charged me for the fraction of the hour. Will use again.

Hungry Man is very gung-ho on their desire to satisfy the customer, unfortunately, their follow-through does not match their intention. Just not equipped with the right: manpower, equipment, knowledge. Problems: yes, they "wrapped" furniture, but truck was so poorly packed that many pieces (both wood & metal) experienced scarring/scratching/rub-off of surfaces. They do NOT have reliable contacts (hired hands) outside the MKE area to unload out of state & ended up hiring 2 of MY family to unload. They pay pretty low so no surprise they don't have good help or reliable contacts for their moves. Also committed to moving a very heavy, but not large, piece of equipment & that's where most of the problem lay. We didn't want it disassembled, but they did it anyway, then couldn't unload & place it properly upon delivery. See reference to manpower & equipment & knowledge above. He (Vern) hurt himself seriously by using the wrong equipment to move the piece. They ended up leaving to do a differnt move, then returned a week later with equipment that couldn't do the job. Then they just left it to us to figure it out & get someone else to finish the job. They assured us that they would re-pay us for that "someone else", and they did, but it took several weeks to get them to pay up AFTER if took us a couple of weeks to find someone to do the job. Overall, their intentions are good, but good intentions don't make a good company. They are probably okay for simple local moves, but they really need more knowledge themselves, and to be able to hire a knowledgable crew not just muscle. Amanda was really good with communication until it came time to re-pay us. We even allowed them to store some trucks on our property for other moves they were doing, but that didn't seem to help their commitment to doing our move correctly. Cheaping out & insufficient knowledge seem to be their biggest challenges - a desire to satisfy the customer seems to be their biggest asset (though their limited ability really makes them bite off more than they can chew). They COULD BE a really good and really successful business IF they would work on their weaknesses. I hope they do.

This provider advised us of exact details regarding our move from Mequon, WI to Southaven, MS. After packing all of the furniture the owner advised us of the next steps which including getting some rest for a few hours prior to traveling towards our destination. When the men arrived in Southaven, MS Vernon called to advise us that they were in town and that they were checking into a hotel to get a few hours of sleep prior to coming to the destination to unload the furniture. After a few hours of rest the men showed up to unload the furniture. All of the movers including the owner were very professional, courteous and cooperative during every step of the process. We had some heavy furniture including a juke box, exercise equipment, dining room table, etc., and they moved all of them without incident or any problems. They placed the furniture into the rooms that we designated without incidence. This team of men did an exceptional job and we would definitely hire them again and absolutely recommend them to anyone that needs to move. What we liked the most was that they quote moves based on a flat rate. Once we were given a flat rate they never changed or attempted to change the price. We are very happy that we hired Hungry Man Moving Company!

I felt they were very unprofessional. They completed the move but just dropped off large items in the living room, including a deep freezer and two power scooter chairs. We had agreed before the move that the freezer and chairs would be moved to the basement rather than the living room. I spoke with the owner during the move because he refused to move the freezer and scooters to the basement, basically saying they were too heavy. In the end the owner yelled at me saying he was the owner of the moving company and can do whatever he wants to do. I want others to know of my experience and I do not recommend Hungry Man Moving to others.
Description of Work: They were hired to move a patient from one assisted living facility to our facility.
