Kitchen Cabinets-The contract stated ?Replace base & wall cabinets with counter top in kitchen. Match existing location.? They did not do this. When I tried discussing it with them to rectify the situation they insisted that they fulfilled their end of the deal and that they would prorate the additional cost for me to add the additional cabinets (that were there before). I tried to get them to fulfill their agreement to do what they said which was to match the existing location but in the end I was cheated out of at least $500 worth of labor/kitchen cabinets. They were paid $4,150 for this work and they only completed ? of the task. If they weren't going to 'replace existing/match location' then they should not have indicated so on the contract. I was under the impression that 'replace existing/match location' meant that they were going to 'replace existing/match location.' Service Walk-Again, they deviated from the contract and it cost me an additional $150 due to their lack of diligence and accuracy. The contract stated ?Remove/replace concrete service walk from the back gate to the front of the house.? They ended up removing a curved section that was not agreed upon to be removed. When doing measurements I specifically pointed to where the concrete was to be removed/replaced & watched them measure. Then later when doing the work they removed a curved section that I specifically indicated that I did not want removed/replaced. Because they overlooked this a large curved section that was not supposed to be removed, was. Thank goodness that I caught this mistake before they laid the concrete because not only did they remove something that wasn't supposed to be removed, they were going to replace it incorrectly--without the natural curve that it originally had. After much discussion and many attempts to get them to realize that this was their mistake and as such should be fixed at no additional cost, I grew tired of their relentless arguing and just agreed paid them an extra $150, despite the fact that I knew it was unethical and unprofessional on their end. Electrical Work in Basement-There was to be no electrical work done in the basement. However when they remodeled my 1st floor bathroom, which required an electrical permit and inspection, they got shady once again. When the electrical inspector came to inspect the bathroom, they took it upon themselves to show the electrical inspector to the basement (which is a space he was never supposed to enter) to point out any and all electrical violations present (again mind you in a space the inspector was not supposed to be 'inspecting.') Anyhow, an unplanned $1,000 later, my basement electrical violations had to be corrected as ordered by the inspector. But not before these scheisters submitted a bid to me to fix it without me even asking them for one. Obviously I got someone else to do it. There were many other issues and unprofessional behavior going on. For starters, when working out the contract they were extremely difficult both to reach and reason with. I'll provide an example of each. If they were to send me an email or leave me a voice mail they would demand that I get back to them asap. However, if I sent them correspondence, my emails and phone messages went UN-returned for days, sometimes weeks. There were several times when they left town without any notice and no one at their office could tell me when they'd be back. There were several times they got extremely rude and confrontational over discussing change orders. The bathroom remodel that they did was done very sloppy. The ceramic tile installation is crooked, with jagged edges, and they didn't even bother to clean up the grout off of the tile when they were done. There is primer from the drywall that splattered in several places causing unsightly blotches, as well as stains on the shower surround. For the amount that I paid for this particular job, $6,000, I would say that they did about a $3,000 job, especially considering that the plumbing that they installed in the sink was leaking and had to be fixed several times. And of course their response was, ?This has nothing to do with us.? Really? Because I wasn't even living in the house or using the plumbing, so whose fault was it? They subcontracted a company to install a baseboard radiator in the bathroom which ended up leaking so bad it caused damage to the brand new vanity, and soaked clear through the floor boards dripping into the basement resulting in standing water. Not to mention, that baseboard radiator doesn't even work now?only 5 months later. They refinished the hardwood flooring and did a frightening job. The coats of polyurethane were done extremely sloppily. It basically looks like they splashed buckets of polyurethane around in every room. There are numerous spots where the polyurethane looks like puddles of water even now after it has dried, because of their lackadaisical method of application and attention to detail. Even more evidence of this is the fact that when they removed the doors to refinish the floors, they placed the doors in the basement. The leak that the bathroom radiator caused in the basement sparked a mold outgrowth. The doors that the contractors placed in the basement had meanwhile grown a tremendous amount of mold on them which was visible standing 5 feet away. The contractors brought the moldy doors back into the main living areas of the house without cleaning them or notifying me that they were moldy. I was not living at the house and didn't have the ability to be there on a daily basis so one would think that the contractors would have had enough common sense to either wipe down the moldy doors before bringing them back into the house, or since they were obviously too lazy to do that, have the courtesy to notify me about the mold so that I could have cleaned the doors before they were brought back into the house. Luckily I caught the problem before the mold spread throughout the rest of the house and main living areas. They continued to smoke in the house after repeatedly being told not to?even tossing the cigarette butts on the ground both outside in the yard and yes, even found several on the floor in the house and basement. My favorite was when I got a call from neighbors at 11:00 one night, letting me know that the front door had been left wide open. The contractors not only forgot to lock and secure the house but they didn't even bother to close the door. And finally, when I requested my keys back once I was moved into the house, they told me that they couldn't give me my keys back until they were done. (They had been working on the house since February--it was now July & they still weren't done.) Overall, Energy Savings Plus Home Improvement Inc provided horrible customer service, were rude and unprofessional, had poor workmanship, practiced poor ethics, and produced a very low quality & disappointing end product.
