The staff member was professional, the work well done and he completed the work in a timely manner. He also provide an estimate for other electrical work. Even with the Angie's list Big Deal this fan installation was significantly higher in price than a fan we had installed two years earlier by another well rated Angie's list electrical company.
Description of Work: Ceiling fan and electric box for fan were installed. This work was an Angie's big deal service for electrical work.

I called reporting loss of power to an upstairs bedroom. in explaining the situation I mentioned it wasn't a fuse or breaker and that we have been experiencing a smell in the room. They originally scheduled a few days out but called me back within an hour trying to reschedule that day because the office staff had talked to an electrician and determined there might be a fire concern. They went to great lengths to get ahold of me and to free up an electrician. They sent an electrician within hours and it was someone who had done work at our house several years ago. He knew what work had been done before - it had nothing to do with our current problem. I thought his knowledge of past work by the company at our house was impressive. The electrician is very professional, personable and technically skilled. He checked on everything and diagnosed the problem immediately, showing me arcing in the outlet's aged wiring. He fixed the wiring and replaced the receptacle within minutes. As a precaution he replaced others in the room.
Description of Work: Loose connection in one receptacle. Replaced and repaired damaged wiring. Replaced two additional receptacles.

CURRENT ELECTRIC CO. was very good. Our expereince went very well. I did feel like they were not as knowledgeable as another company we used for major electric work. They were very friendly and professional though. I did not feel like it was necessary to charge me to come out for an estimate, but other than those two bad things, they did a very good job.

I called them the week before on Thursday, and they came out the next week to do the cleanup work
Description of Work: Deric was EXCELLENT! He went above and beyond in cleaning up some wiring issues we had when getting ready to sell our home. He repaired some outlets that were not working and cleaned up work done by another electrician that had done sloppy work. Outstanding company!

They came on time and explained what they were doing. The only thing I didn't ask for and they do advertise is their upfront pricing. I was a little surprised at the amount they charged in relation to what I had done. The electrician explained what he was doing and why he was doing it. He left the old parts with me; which I really didn't need. I will use them again in the future.

From all the people that I have worked with the experience with Current ranks right at the bottom. I think it will stay like that for many years. The ordeal: I have a general contractor (GC) doing the house remodel. He calls in Current for an estimate. The "estimator" from Current shows up ... and spends 2 / 3 hours in my house. I am still to understand what he did for so long. The GC said he was busy doing something else so did not care about the "estimator". Besides, I don't get an estimate since it is too hard to estimate and will bill by the hour (but confirm it is a small job). The GC mentioned he has worked with Current before and they should be OK. I go along. They did give me some advice about upgrading the service, changing out panels totaling to about $3000 (which I found out later was absolutely worthless). 2 people from Current show up (one guy does all the work). The other guy is for occasional pulling of wire etc. 2 hours into this I begin to get a little worried since there are phone calls being answered, relaxed nature of work and so I ask the Current person.. how much is this going to cost. He says between $1200 - $1500 This is where my jaw drops to the floor !! I ask him to pack up and leave immediately ... cant afford to have him around any more. Current was billing me $106 per person per hour from the time they left their building AND for the 3 hours he spent "estimating". This is the most unprofessional conduct I have ever witnessed. I get a bill for $800 or so for services already rendered and $600 more to finish up. Needless to say this is as close as you can get to daylight robbery. Talk to the owner and Vice president and finally the owner visits me at home to "settle". He came with paperwork that was outright false .. he had materials listed on it that was not purchased from or through Current. The material (switches, fixtures etc.) I had bought from Crescent Electric Supply and Home Depot. The material that was used from Current (wires etc), the quantity on the bill was 2 times the length of the house !! I politely pointed that he should probably go verify the list with his staff. This is where the owner begins to insinuate that I am lying. A couple of more patient attempts to clarify follow on my part after which I ask the owner to leave the house too.. (since I don't see any means of settlement) After a few threats, he leaves. Later in the day he calls to apologize (probably realizing that I was telling the truth all the time). I call back and offer to pay him what I think is fair. No response for months and a few weeks ago I get a bill in the mail. Made a payment and call it done. Good riddance ! Had another electric company do all the work for $400 and they fix at least 3 things Current did not do right. They whole heartedly agree that what happened was not right and should not have been this way. Reason for the long review is that if you do decide to go with Current, make sure you get written estimates, keep a close eye on the material and time spent and billed. In my opinion, almost anyone else is going to be better than Current. July 19 2011 response - The project scope never changed - Current was the first company to work in the house and the project lasted for 2 hours - All work was done under permit and inspection from city inspectors and is and always been to code Most reviewers had good experiences and truthfully I wish I did too .. but I did not, so just doing my due to the list and reporting my own experience.

Response from Current Electric Co
On May 11, 2010, Current Electric received a request from a General Contractor to do electrical upgrades in two bathrooms for the member. Our technician met the General Contractor at the home and went through the job in detail. Upon thorough inspection, it was noted that much of the work that had previously been done was not completed correctly. In addition to the work Current Electric was originally hired to do, extensive re-wiring and circuitry relocating was necessary to bring the project up to code. As the project progressed, the member became concerned with the costs. Current Electric always strives to meet our customer's needs, keeping their safety and code issues as the utmost of importance. Current Electric regrets that the goodwill gestures extended to the member were not accepted. Current Electric is a highly respected Angie's List provider and has been a Super Service Award Winner every year since 2001. We pride ourselves on the outstanding customer service we provide to many Angie's List members. Current Electric has had happy customers as our #1 goal since 1983. Current Electric performed 11.5 hours of labor, bought $60 in material and paid for an electrical permit for which we received $250 from the member. We are very disappointed with this report, a year after the fact, and feel we made every attempt to be reasonable and fair with this customer. Thank you to the many Angie's List members who have used our service in the past, have commented favorably on our services, and continue to know Current Electric as the company who provides outstanding skills and service to its customers. We'd like to encourage all the members to look at the many positive reviews Current Electric has received as testimonials that we truly are focused on superhero customer service.

We placed an emergency call after smelling smoke coming from a bathroom switch. The technician came out promptly, replaced the fixture and then started a full home inspection. While he was there he happily took care of some problems that we had been letting go, waiting until we really needed an electrician to get done. When he couldn't finish everything I had asked for by closing time, he made an appointment to come back and finish the work and did not charge me an additional service call fee. We were very happy with what he did and very surprised at how not up to code this house is. He told us about hazards that we didn't realize were hazards, and told us what we could do to fix some of the little things ourselves like making sure covers were on all our outlets (we hadn't replaced some after painting). He did a marvelous job, and when we need an electrician again, we will definitely call him back.
Description of Work: Fixed switches that were hanging loose. Replaced dimmer switch in bathroom Full home inspection Changed out a light fixture in the bathroom Problem solved 2 outlets, 1 ballast, and overloaded circuit.

Very professional, knowledgable and friendly. In the process of updating a parents' home for resale, they made some excellent suggestions for the work required to meet electrical requirements. It was a major job to a home with no electrical updates since 1955. Two men finished the job in a day and company returned a month later to hook up newly delivered appliances. Current responded within an hour to an emergency situation caused by the owner's spouse while working on the house. Will use them again in updating our own home. This report is for a home built in the 1950's - not for a home built in the 1970's as is shown on the report. This is because I have been updating a parents' home for resale versus our home, which is listed in my profile as being constructed in the 1970's.
Description of Work: Installed duplex grounded receptacles thoughout the house, GFI protected receptables in kitchen, bathroom, laundry area and outdoors, removed and installed a new light, changed home to 100 amp full service and installed new electrical panel and breakers. Replaced roof electrical connection in coordination with the utility company. Corrected some owner installed electrical work. Installed new outlets for garbage disposal, new installation of a dishwasher and an outlet in the island.

It went very smoothly. The electrician showed up on time; gave me a fixed dollar estimate and completed the work in about 4 hours. He had to spend time in the attic and he cleaned up well. He carted off the boxes and did a fabulous job.
Description of Work: They replaced a ceiling fan and installed a ceiling fan in 2 bedrooms. They replaced a bathroom fan and discovered that the previously installed vent pipe (not by them) was not attached. They replaced a bad light fixture and installed a new GFI outlet.

I got everything done. He really listened to me and got everything done beautiflly. $280.00
Description of Work: He selected with my help over the phone, a new globe for the the kicthen overhead light that is above the sink and windows. the old one had a corroded hinge and I couldn't get at the bulbs or clean it. The new one is beautifully fitted. I gave him the emasurements and he selected one that was beautiful riveted frost glass, it fits perfectly and is very accessible for changing bulbs. it make kitchen look 200% better. It's beautiful and manageable. He brought along a bulb for overhead garage light and ladder.. The light was burnt out and replace it. He found a way to have an outdoor outlet so I could do garden work in a remote area farther away from the entrerances. He found a cap that was accesible and put in a brand new outlet with a special cover to protect against the weather. when the fall comes and I have to clear the leaves, I won't have to use extension cords, it will be a lot easier. he helped me tremendously. I woudn't call any other company. He gave a me a discount as well.

Went very well. I had previously checked out Current Electric on Angie's List. I received and email with a special to get $100 of electrical work for $50 through Current. I believe the price was reasonable. My only issue is that when I made the appointment I was not told of the $45.00 service truck fee. I however understand with the price of gas changing every day the need for this fee and Bob apologized for me not being told. Bob was great to work with and I would use Current again.

After reviewing many glowing reports about this service contractor, I phoned for an estimate for extensive electrical work on a remodeling project. After having spent at least an hour reviewing the entire project with me at my home, the electrician did not follow though with providing an estimate. When I phoned the company the following week, I was informed he was in the field working on bids. He contacted me soon thereafter and stated he would be at my home 2 days later at a designated time. He did not show up on that date. I again phoned the company. The electrician was contacted while I waited on the phone. I was then informed that the electrician stated he was "sorry", but was still at another jobsite and that he would meet with me 4 days later! Very frustrating experience and I would not recommend this company.

As a company policy we never guarantee an appointment time other than first thing in the morning. Once our electrician arrives at your door, they are there for as long as you need them. Our electrician put a lot of time and effort putting together different sample fixtures and dimmers for your project. Until he knew exactly what you wanted, there was no way he could put together a quote. We apologize that we did not call you sooner to let you know he was running late. He was so involved in his current project that he lost track of time. We will use this lesson to improve our service.

If someone wont give an estimate over the phone, and are pushy -- I've learnt not to bother.
Description of Work: Got this location as a promotion from Angie's list 2-3 days after I signed up. I needed 2 ceiling fans installed. Talked to the scheduling lady & they wanted to setup a time. They said that they have a NO-CHARGE estimate. I kept asking for ANY kind or pricing, or range, but they pushed for the onsite. Would not share any info on the phone. In the end, I agreed to showing up. They said it would be $680 for 2 fan installations. They have a very grand process for installing fans. One of the fans already had a rough-in. So don't have any idea why that was the case. In the end of the NO-CHARGE estimate, The technician wanted to charge me $20 for the TRUCK SERVICE FEE. Lots of tough companies out there. So hard to learn of these from Angies list. Especially a company that Angie's list promotes.

Our company offers up-front pricing. What that means is that we send a fully qualified electrician, with a stocked van, to your home. He will evaluate your needs and give you a price for the work you want performed. Upon your approval they are prepared to do the work for you. We do charge a $45 service truck fee, which we discount to $20 for Angie's List members. This is our normal company policy and we have never heard one of our employee's say we have a "NO-CHARGE estimate". This small service truck fee hardly begins to cover the cost of sending a fully trained electrician, stocked van, gas, insurance, etc. to someone's home. We pride ourselves on our "super hero" service and regret that you were not "wowed" by our service.

They have come out here several times. We have an old house and some of our electrical were not up to code and safe. Nathan is the one who always comes out. We usually request for him. He is prompt and friendly. He always does his work well and cleans up well. I used to look for estimates from other companies earlier. Nowadays I don't do that. I just call Current Electric Co. whenever I need something done. They are fairly priced. We have had a good experience with the company.
Description of Work: We used Current Electric Co. for some rewiring of outlets and extending our electrical service. I spent $900 on that job. My experience with them was good. They thought they could get it done in a day, but when the electrician came, he realized that it would not get done so he called in a comrade to finish it in a day and I really appreciated that. The work done was fine. They go out of the way to get things done. They have always been an A. Their price has been pretty comparable. In the past, I had some sump work that needed to be done, and he called me and told me that he had a few circuit breakers and asked me if I wanted them. He told me he would come out for free and get that work done. The charged me only for the extras.

I had selected both Current and another Angie's List highly rated electrician to call an get info to determine who to select to do the work. I actually selected the other electrician. At the very last minute the other electrician cancelled. Current was able to provide an electrician very quickly. The office staff was very accomodating. Bob was the electrician who completed the work. The company provides a quote upon arrival. They do charge a trip charge. I had not had an electrician before with this scope of work, was quite surprised at the estimate but went ahead and had the work done since the work was contingent upon having the garbage disposal installed the next day bu the plumber. Bob was very professional, gave in-depth information about the work to be done. He was very friendly and did an exception job of cleaning up after the work. He resolved the switch and outlet issues. He worked very efficiently. I just think the charge of $232 to install two bathroom light fixtures seemed excessive.

We were very happy with our initial call to the Current office and especially our technician Bob. The office staff was welcoming and patient, ready to listen to what I had to say. Bob was very friendly and ready to help where he could. We initially wanted to replace a walk light that had been damaged and add an electrical receptacle in our garage. He came for the estimate and needed to order the walk light for us. I commented on some dimmer switches that needed fixing plus the garage switch that was giving me some concern. He was able to fix those items along with installing the new electric receptable in the garage on that day. We also asked for an estimate on installing another light on our back patio. He was able to come in with a great price and, after we purchased the fixture that we wanted, he came back to install that as well. The walk light took a bit of time to locate the exact match to what we already had in the yard but that was finished early on a Monday morning without even waking us. I would highly recommend Bob and Current. They are people you can trust!
