Terrible business!!!, the plumber Austin is a scammer. Don't go with this company. He tried to get more money on an install that the city did not approve to get to fix it. They don't do boiler/water heater installations up to code. The city inspector did not approve their installation because they failed to properly secure the boiler, it was bobbly among other things. The guy came after a month , but refused to fix their own install mistakes unless we paid him $140 for 10 minutes, scammers!!!

Disposal, the tech got it going but provide no root cause information. Was in and out with little feedback or interaction. Leaking pipe issue, snaked the pipe and again provide very little feedback. Feel like this firm sends out under qualified individuals for some of the lesser tasks. Will for sure not hire them again for any jobs.

Way too expensive! $120 per hour plus $55 travel fee. Too expensive to snake out clog sink plus $1o for use of snake. Unacceptable that they charge out the nose for simple procedure. I will find another local plumber. And receptionist was not very friendly. Tech was friendly.

Outstanding. Chris was the plumber Carl's sent. The repair job went very well, no issues that Chris couldn't handle. Job was completed in under an hour. I've been using Carl's for over 10 years. Great service, highly professional, good price. I will continue to use them for all of my plumbing needs.

The service tech on site was fine. He was professional and gave his assessment within a few minutes of arriving, however, the interaction with the person on the phone dispatch was difficult and cumbersome to manage. It sounded as if he wished he was doing anything but answering the phone to assist people with issues related to plumbing. It's not my bag either but I'm also not being paid to interact with people who needs plumbing contracting services. Friendly advice to the dispatcher if he's reading this review... find a new career path - you were transparently pained during multiple telephone conversations with a fellow human being. The on site interaction and laborious dealings with a dispatcher aside, the whole process was strained by a 3rd party, HSA Warranty, that complicated the pricing, transparency of replacement unit, and logistics for executing such a replacement. It's probably a decent rule of thumb to avoid most contractors that work with that sort of 3rd party insurance provider, anyhow. 3P insurers' business models are predicated on limiting consumer choice (ie work with a single contractor in a specific area), obstructing efficient project planning (have to work through 3P Insurer to coordinate with their approved contractor), and offering no product or service pricing transparency (no one at their contractor or at the 3P can answer questions regarding specific pricing of the unit or even the make and model... there is extensive upcharging for extra work beyond removal and direct installation of a unit). A 3P Insurer of home appliances will hide behind vague contractual language that are poorly explicated in the terms. If you seek a cash settlement, a 3P Insurer will not validate a cash payment until a separate, licensed contractor is shown to have completed the work due to supposed 'liability' that the unit is not replaced or fixed properly. As if someone would really live without a water heater... It is a long, cumbersome process that sucks up our most precious resource, time. I'd advise to avoid working with 3P Insurers of appliances and possibly contractors that are enlisted in their service.
Description of Work: The water heater was rusting out at the bottom of the unit and needed to be replaced.

I admit that seeing many bad reviews of this company made me nervous. I had to go with them because of our home warranty as well. However, Carl arrived only 15 minutes into the my given window time so I was happy with the quick arrival time. He immediately went to work and got the leaky toilet started on a new ring and then attempted to snake out the clogged toilet. At first he thought something foreign was plugging it because the snake wasn't clearing it out (he asked if I had kids). He mentioned that he could take off the toilet to try to get further but that cost would be on us since pulling a toilet for a clog isn't covered under the home warranty. I was hesitant because I was sure there was nothing unusual in my toilet. My kids aren't that young. He then noticed that our toilets drain through PVC pipes in the yard and offered to look at those. He found the clog in an outside pipe and then called the warranty company to ask if clearing out those are covered under our policy. They said it was so he then promptly unclogged it. My cost to have both issues fixed was just the $75 service charge. I do not know what the charge would have been if the insurance didn't cover the issues, hence my N/A answer on the price.

The plumbers were very thorough and courteous. The only reason why I gave it an overall B rating was because they knocked over a paint sample container carrying the water heater to the basement (which got on the white walls, but I easily cleaned it up) and they left some pipe savings on the drain cover.

Carl's Plumbing called on Monday in response to our week-end request for non-emergency service through AHS and arranged a Tuesday repair appt. The service technician arrived promptly at the Tuesday appt. time, evaluated the situation, and replaced the disposal unit. The standard $75 service call fee was all we had to pay --- the AHS warranty covered all additional charges.

Initially scheduled appointment to have above services competed same day. We found out that we purchased a water heater with power vent. Paul explained the benefits and difficulties of installing the power vent and helped us make the informed decision to return the power vent and get the passive version. Installed gas line for stove quickly and easily and waived extra charge for the return trip of installing the new water heater 10 days later. Very happy with service.

Bottom line- anyone rating Carl's Plumbing greater than an F- probably works for the company. DO NOT USE THEM UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. Like many, I was referred to Carl's by my home warranty company, American Home Shield. They did set up an appointment in 1 business day as promised, but that's about the best I can say about their customer service. My girlfriend and I are both physicians and because we work from 6 am to 6 pm, we had a family member drive two hours up to stay at our home and ensure someone was there for the appointment (scheduled from 11am-1pm.) She sat around all morning and afternoon without a phone call. I got ahold of the technician, Pat, around 4 pm and it became obvious that the main office had provided him with incorrect details. The service window he had been given by the main office was 2 hours later than the one they had quoted us and the contact number he had been given to call was not the same as the one we provided upon scheduling (which was likely just a transcription error.) So Pat showed up 15 minutes late, called the wrong contact number, inevitably received no response and then left. To his credit, Pat himself was incredibly helpful, pleasant and apologetic. Unfortunately he does not run the company, schedule service or do billing- that is all left to the rude, slack-jawed inbreds who comprise their office staff. After several unreturned calls to Carl's office (and a few that were met with apathy and outright hostility,) I placed one to American Home Shield, who said they would reach out to Carl's and have them reschedule. But when Carl's called us back it was not to apologize for their error and reschedule service, but to insist we owed them $75 for the missed appointment. They called my girlfriend a liar and a 'piece of ****,' when she explained the situation and said none of it was their problem. Calling back the next day to speak to a manager was only met with more swearing, accusations and demands for a check to be mailed to their office. Really wish I had looked up the online reviews of Carl's before accepting them as a contractor. Update: After speaking with a rep from American Home Shield, it has become apparent that throughout this ordeal the management of Carl's has been in violation of their contractor agreement- and likely has been with countless previous customers as well. With the home warranty referral, payments are to be collected at the time of service, or else only routed through AHS to ensure documentation. (For you other AHS customers, their billing department reiterated that ANY ATTEMPT BY A CONTRACTOR TO COLLECT MONEY AFTER THE TIME OF SERVICE SHOULD BE REFUSED!) Carl's repeated phone attempts to extort money from my girlfriend were an effort to fraudulently make them money off the books. Little wonder the scumbags swore up a storm at her when she said she wouldn't send them a check. To make matters worse, a few days after their no-show they filed the job as completed with AHS despite never having set foot in our building, let alone looked at our plumbing. After becoming aware of the balance on our account I got in touch with AHS, explained the situation and was easily able to have it removed. Now begins the process of formal letters to the AHS contractor complaint/review department (which I suggest to other AHS customers here) as well as the Better Business Bureau.

This is not a professional plumbing company. They did some work through my home warranty company. They had to come back to repair leaks a second time because they don't have the proper equipment. Using soap and water to find leaks is old technology. If you need any kind of paperwork good luck. I've been trying for a month to get a receipt.

- Scheduling an appointment was easy. I called on Thur, the appointment was scheduled for Monday - Appointment was scheduled between 9a-11a, but Carl didn't show up til 11:20a. He did call informing me he was running a little late, which was nice. - the piping for the outdoor spigot ran vertically in the wall, which made the repair difficult. - the work was completed in about an hour. - contractor was polite, conversational, clean, and did the work correctly. I would definitely use Carl's again.

Carl's Plumbing was to replace a coupling on a leaking gas pipe. Before starting the work their plumber said he needed to charge us their "standard" permit fee of $110 because the City of Milwaukee requires a permit for working on gas pipe. We paid it so they could complete the warranty work but we have been waiting 2 weeks for them to pull the permit so an inspector can confirm the work was done correctly. After a week of waiting we called to ask them to pull the permit, still nothing. They basically have stolen $110 from us.

Paul arrived on time as scheduled, was very friendly and respectful of our house. In the end our hot water heater is still functioning properly, but due to the amount of iron in the city water we need to flush our hot water heater every three months. Paul flushed the tank and showed me the recommended way to flush and also talked me through what we might be able to do to minimize the iron issues going forward.

I've had really good experiences with them. I had an experience where they thought they had called me to set-up an appointment and they actually hadn't. In fact, I'm still in a debate with them about it because the house is in Florida and they called me at my tenant's house saying we had an animal and we didn't have one. I even called the home warranty company and said, tell them what happened. I even printed out my phone record so they could absolutely see that I haven't gotten a call for them to set up an appointment. I haven't got the call until the day that they sent the appointment. I've sued them several times. The plumber was great but when I tried to contact the office to let them know that there was a mistake, they absolutely would not listen and would not believe they made the mistake. They were sure that it had to be my mistake. I knew that I hadn't gotten the call, on the phone number that they would've called, I never got the call.

In dealing with them they wanted to charge a fee for a permit to install of $110. Our municipality only charges $43 for that permit. When we questioned them on that they stated that it too much work to figure out what each permit costs so they just charge a flat fee. Not only that, but they were also extremely rude throughout the entire situation. Contractor was also prepared to install a different water heater requiring extra fitting charges without a permit and obtain the permit after the fact. The argument regarding the cost of the permit is irrelevant as they should be obtaining the permit before doing work at which point they would know the exact amount. The only way their argument holds is if they are doing the work and getting the permit later. My understanding is most municipalities require the permit prior to any work starting which they apparently don't follow. It's also not right to gouge due to laziness then tell the customer "we don't need your work and don't care whether or not you want to do work with us or not".

Response from Carl's Plumbing Services Inc
This work was done through a home warranty service, as we do hundreds of water heaters per year and service around 50 municipalities (which many change their permit fees multiple times per year); it would not be realistic to contact the municipality each time we are doing a water heater (sometimes 5-6 per day). We did offer to this customer (and all others) that if their municipality allowed it they could pull the permit and their would be no charge. The other concern with this "review" is that the customer has paid us nothing (other than their required service fee) and we have done nothing so I'm not sure how Angies List is allowing a review for services not rendered. The customer has not paid us for a permit nor have we pulled a permit for them so I'm not sure how this is a legit "review". It would kind of be like saying a grocery store over-charged me even though I never bought groceries there. This customer has the choice whether to have Car's Plumbing do the work or find another contractor. We were very upfront on our pricing and it is up to the customer whether they want to pay that or not but it's not right for them to post poor reviews when they haven't even used our services.

It was great, they could have easily tried to get me to replace the old valve and pipe but instead he added some plumbers tape and it was fixed easily. The blockage was due to roots and he snaked it which brought up a giant clump of roots. The whole job took 1.5 hours and he worked fast. He also showed up early which was very helpful. This is the second time we have used Carl's and will definitely use them again.

Eternal Tankless Water Heater GU195S I bought this system April 2013. I paid over $4,000.00 for it. It failed within 2 years. Problem first started happening when the hot water lasted about 5 minutes. After 1 month, the hot water never got hot anymore. You would get luke warm then cold freezing water after about 2 minutes. This was in January in Wisconsin. I have a home owners warranty with HSA on my house so I called them. It should have been covered under warranty with the manufacturer or my home owners warranty. They sent out the same company Carl's Plumbing that installed it. They looked at the unit and stated the thermostat was bad and had to replace the entire unit. They also stated that the manufacturer wanted a water sample to see if my water was hard. This would void the warranty. I was never told this when it was installed. I had to pay $345.00 for a permit, extra parts, the $75.00 to HSA and the water test. They installed in on January 28, 2015. Three weeks later the new water heater is doing the same thing now. Ugh. On February 18th, I call it in again and Carl?s Plumbing came out to look at it on February 20th. Another day off of work. They worked with you (Eternal) and found that a mixing valve was faulty. I had to wait until the following week which was February 27th to have them come back and install it. Next think they tell me is that it isn?t that part but from the picture Carl?s Plumbing sent them it was a dented tank. It is now March 5th and I still have no hot water. Carl?s plumbing stated today that they are waiting on a call from Eternal as to what to do next. In total I have had to take 6 days off of work which I can?t afford right now. I have not had true hot water since before Christmas. Well its now March 10th. As of yesterday, Carls Plumbing stated they cannot install a standard water heater because there is no room in utility room for one without being out of code. They could remove my water tub and install a drain but would not quote me a price. The $2500.00 would only cover the unit and placement of unit without any modifications. They would not bend one bit and neither would Eternal on my refund. I asked for my 2500.00 to be mailed to me and am waiting for a check which will take 30 days.

Not quite sure why this review is on for Carl's Plumbing. We did not provide this unit - all we did was work with the mfg. to get the customer a replacement unit. The customer did not have any room in the house to put a new water heater which is what the customer is upset at. None of this has anything to do with Carl's Plumbing - we would request it be removed. This customer is upset with Eternal and their home warranty company though they really don't have a right to be upset at either.

We had a very significant plumbing issue which caused us to rip down an entire wall in our home. We could have just gone with the small fix which would have been to replace a section of pipe, but figured the pipes were old enough and everything was exposed, so we called around asking for quotes. Carl's was extremely responsive and we ended up hiring them to do the job. They replaced all of the plumbing our home with PEX tubing and PVC, including a portion of our stack. They completed the job in about two days, which was great because we had no water during this time. They did an excellent job and were sure to clean up after themselves. They answered questions we had and explained what they were doing. We have recommended them several times to other friends and family. I would not hesitate to call them again, they were great.
