Burkhardt Heating & Air Conditioning

I have never written an online review for any product or service, until today. The potential to save other homeowners or general contractors from the compromised ethics and discriminatory practices of Burkhardt Heating & Air Conditioning make it worth this becoming my first review. We contacted Burkhardt to diagnose an issue with our furnace in the home we recently purchased. They nearly completely disassembled the unit before ultimately identifying a part that they felt needed to be replaced. We informed them that the home we purchased came with a home warranty, for which we would like to file a claim for any needed repairs. They recommended trying the recommended part and proceeding from there, which we agreed to. The part ultimately did not correct the problem, nor did the warranty company cover Burkhardt as a service provider. They refused to attempt to return the part and left the furnace in pieces. We nevertheless signed the final invoice, provided our credit card number, and agreed to move on. To our surprise, we were then actually charged more than the amount on the signed invoice and also charged 28% sales tax. When calling to dispute the excess charges, we received no explanation from the person we spoke to (Terry), but overheard his conversation with Kelly through the phone line. Kelly, who we assume is the supervisor, resolved our dispute by telling Terry that we “lived in a million-dollar house and could afford to pay the extra amount”. Further appeals to the owner (Doug) did nothing to resolve the issue so we disputed the additional charges with our credit card company. In response to the dispute, Doug submitted the invoice that we had signed, which had been clearly marked up with new numbers after the fact. There is no other explanation for the side by side comparison of the original invoice and the “doctored one”. He also submitted a new invoice (321 invoice numbers later in the sequence) for work that was not approved or completed and was never presented or signed. The discriminatory over-billing based on our address and the forgery and fabrication of documents is shocking. There are many reputable HVAC providers in the area – Burkhardt should not be on anybody’s list. They were prompt in an urgent situation to diagnose the problem. Kelly, the technician was very professional and considerate of the situation. I will definitely use them again in the future for all of my heating and air conditioning needs.

They are who I bought the furnace from. The repair was free. I have a ten year warranty for most of the furnace, but for the secondary heat exchange which was broken, the warranty with it was effectively 20 years for parts and labor. The only cost was the initial service charge. I would absolutely use them again in the future.

We made the appointment to be proactive before the temperatures became too hot. They scheduled the appointment, but then called the day of to cancel "because it wasn't hot enough." I can only guess they wanted to be paid at the higher rate. Never mind the fact we had to rearrange our third shift work schedule to accommodate them.

I took some kind of thing where they just paid by the year and anything they do, or whatever, they don't charge you. It is a maintenance agreement. When my furnace went out on the coldest day last year they were there. It was, like, a Friday night and they called all the guys in to try to get that furnace in so I would not freeze for that weekend. I like them so much I am going to ask them to come and give me a new air conditioner.

The sales visit was pleasant and low pressure. I had used this company before to go over the heating and a/c right after I purchased the house about a year ago. That visit went well so I knew I wanted to talk to them again when I was ready to do the replacement. They presented the options available and the pros and cons of each, explained all the credits for high efficiency systems, answered all my questions. I made my decision and we signed the contract. The crew that returned to do the work (removing the old system, installing the new) was efficient and friendly. All the old equipment was taken away and the new installation was well done. The outside a/c unit was well positioned. They called me in early May to set up an appointment to come out and check everything out and make sure the switch over to a/c goes well. That was also handled in a friendly and professional manner. Honestly, this company does things so well and competively that you really don't need to run around getting multiple bids. Just call them and they'll do a good job for you.

Excellent service! Both technicians were professional and friendly. They worked efficiently but still took time to answer questions and to explain what they were doing. They even made sure to walk through one last time to make sure everything was picked up and back in place.

Customers Beware! Terrible service. Dean and Troy, from Burkhardt, came, on April 26, 2017, to clean my air ducts. Before they left, I noticed quite a bit of large, dark, dust balls and grit on the upstairs, bathroom floor. I showed the mess to Troy who picked up two of the dust balls and said it was fine. After they left, I went back up to get rid of the extra dust they left behind in my bathroom, and discovered that the entire second floor was covered with large, dark, dust balls and grime, kicked up from their work. After I called to complain about the mess they left behind. Dean and Troy returned to my house and upon leaving asked me to call the owner of the company, Doug. These young men made a mistake, a fixable one, in leaving my home a mess. It wasn't the end of the world, but it was an inconvenience to my time, energy, and health. So I thought Doug and I would work out a suitable agreement where we could both feel like we could continue to do business together. The company installed my furnace in the past, and I trusted them. On the phone, Doug called me a liar without ever asking me any details about my experience. He began a long, rage-filled rant about how his company was the best rated on Angie's List, and how he was sick of customers wanting money back, and he told me that I could tell everyone that he was mean to me and that he yelled at me because he does not give money back, but he will give me a certificate for a free furnace tune up. His rant went on for so long that I eventually put him on speaker phone so that people in my office could hear what I was being exposed to. At one point I felt concerned for him and offered that we take a break an try again. To which he told me that he does not give back money and would still only offer me a certificate for a free tune up, (why would I ever, at this point let his company back in my house?) then he started back to yelling at me, and as he said, "all his other customers who want to bankrupt him." If Doug will treat his customers this way, I wonder how he treats his employees.

It went terribly. First, despite me specifically asking the tech to leave a receipt detailing the work completed for the $122 I paid to Angieslist for the furnace tuneup, the tech did not leave an invoice or any paperwork detailing his work. I subsequently emailed the company through AngiesList. No response was received. On top of that, to fix an issue with replacing a condensation drain that was causing the clog (as alleged by the tech), he wanted $184 for a $20 part! I will not use this company again and I want a refund from AngiestList

I call them because they are good. They came out the same day. Just a first class experience. The workers are fine. I thought they were very professional. They had to do diagnosis, and could have charged me more, but they didn't. They could have said it was a board, but the growth tube was the cheaper option.

We bought a super old home that desperately needed a new boiler and water heater. Burkhardt's crew out super fast to give us a quote, and completed. The project on time. Very happy with the work and my new system.

Very punctual and friendly. Worked clean and kept me updated. Provided a lot of very helpful information about the zones in our house, as well as the condition and lifespan of our existing boiler. Technician knew about their Angie's List coupon, and remembered to include it during billing. We look forward to using them again (hopefully for many more tuneups before we have to replace it!)

They came the next day and found the hanging wires, connected the capacitor and cleaned the furnace. It appears that Roman Heating had done nothing but take my money. Burkhardt did a great job but I felt pressured to buy a new furnace because mine is about 15 yrs old. My furnace has worked fine all of these years and I will continue to get annual cleanings until a new one is needed.

Burkhardt was professional and efficient at replacing the hot surface ignitor that had gone bad in our furnace. Technician called ahead, arrived promptly, and worked quickly. Would definitely recommend!
