The installers arrived on time and were professional in every way. Nothing stumped them from building a new configuration of air ducts to having to work on top of an ant hill outside to solder the AC connections. They worked all day and left the basement clean and took all old parts. We are enjoying the comforts of the new air conditioning as the weather warms. Tony and Jake were great they knew exactly how to install the units.

Rick gave me a call when he was on the way, and arrived on time. I asked a lot of questions regarding the condition of my AC unit, clarification about the services he performed, and specific advice should I choose to replace this approx 40 year AC unit in the coming year. He was professional, patient, and when I requested, he wrote down some notes that I can reference in the future.
Description of Work: Used coupon for the seasonal AC tune up: "checking outside condenser coil, interior compressor, and thermostat; ensuring that your system shuts down properly; preventing future issues." Washed out condenser coil. Additional charge to add approx 3 lbs of refrigerant.

Burghardt was the most knowledgeable and trustworthy in the bid process and we were not disappointed. The work was completed quickly and on time. Jake was the leader for the installation and was extremely knowledgeable and professional. He was the star of the show!! He clearly explained how the system worked and how to maintain it. The tubing was installed neatly and great effort was made to not use any more of the closet space than needed since the flexible ductwork needs to pass from the attic where the air handler is located to therest ofthe house.

The businesses owner, Mr. Doug Erdmann had come to our home to present to us his Bryant products that would suit our needs. We had arrived at the decision to replace our 18 yrs. old Trane XV80 furnace as well as our 20+ yrs. Heil 5000 central air unit. We had already shopped 3 contractors including here, and we had just decided that with Burkhardt's reputation, fair competitive prices, and consecutive annual awards many years running serving their customers well was in line with what we had wanted. I can tell you that these guys seemed the most NO non-sense approach here. We scheduled the installation right away and they were in within one week's time. There are out of some out there with the undesirable high pressure selling tactics and the arm twisting, "sign now", crap. Not so here. What we got was a very clean, timely, professional looking and courteous job from their crew of 3 or so. Everything removed of the old was hauled away and they cleaned up afterwards pretty well. We also were able to take advantage of some manufacturer rebate offered which is at least a couple times a year through Bryant. Added also, the W.E. Energies Focus On Energy program. This amounted to about $875.00 total, of the instant rebates. By the way, another leading competitor on the list here wanted over $3,000.00 more for the same units same job. I'm looking forward to some good savings on my utility costs, quieter units, increased heating and cooling comfort and also good follow on servicing by them. I highly recommend Burkhardt here. No joking. UPDATE (11/5/14): I guess you don't always really know the follow on service you're going to get AFTER rge contractor already has your hard earned money. To the tune of thousands of $. Holy cow, did this business owner Doug Erdmann let me have it by yelling at me on a recent phone call. We had a couple of issues that were relatively minor, really. All we had wanted was to have these checked out, but NOT having been charged a service call of $69.95 with a $10 discount coupon. 1) a smell coming from our 4 mo. old brand new furnace installed in the summer and NOT used until the heating season of LATE September forward. 2) existing ducting noises due to expansion and contraction we were never told that we might expect at the time of installation. From a high efficiency forced air furnace. 3) the possibility of our whole house humidifier NOT working properly. The issue was them charging us the $69.95 for the service call when we had these put in over the summer, and just now had noticed these problems. As we are more into the heating season with regular usage of these components. We reached a resolution, however I'm not pleased with the disrespect and hostility I was treated with from the OWNER, Doug Erdmann! UPDATE II (10/2015): By the way, we had to hire another HVAC contractor with whom we had paid an additional $300.00 to re-locate and reroute the PVC venting 1 1/4" pipes that were wedged in between out supply heating ducting in the basement. The initial installation had caused these excessive noises. I called Burkhardt up about my dissatisfaction on this matter. They issued two certificates for a furnace clean & tune up and an A/C tune up. Valued at $169.00 each on Angie's List Big Deal.
Description of Work: We had a new Bryant Evolution 98m (top of the line - model 987M) gas forced air furnace, and a Bryant (model187B) two-stage 3 ton central a/c installed.

The initial installation itself went well. Unfortunately, the new boiler was NOT installed in the original location, but instead, had been moved approximately a foot to the left, too close to the existing HVAC unit. This blocked service to the existing water heater. The smallest new water heater was 19.5 inches in diameter. The clearance between the boiler/electric and the HVAC was approximately 17.25 inches. Although I had chosen to upgrade from a 40 to 50 gallon, the old unit could not be removed, and no new unit could be installed. Unfortunately, this issue wasn't noticed until the water heater failed. Last night (04/29/14), the water heater failed. This morning, (04/30/14) I called Burkhardt to ask if they would like to replace the water heater. I was rudely told that they are an HVAC company, and were NOT licensed for plumbing. They did provide the name of a plumber, whom I contacted. Unfortunately, the reviews were not positive and so I called around, ultimately selecting a plumber who had positive reviews and had done previous unrelated work. Later that day, the plumbing company came out. Unfortunately, the plumber determined that it was impossible to remove the old unit or install the new, because neither unit would fit through the newly diminished gap (between the boiler and the HVAC). I called Burkhardt, and spoke to a receptionist. The receptionist asked to speak to the plumber, who relayed the same information. The receptionist then asked to speak with me. She informed me that the owner said the cost to "remediate" the problem would be an additional $1200.00. (though the owner was not aware of what needed to be done, or what the completed installation looked like.) I explained that this was not right; that the boiler was not installed correctly in the original location to allow for service. She went back and forth putting me on hold. She apologized for being in the middle. She told me that the owner said "everything was to code" - so there was really "nothing wrong", and there was nothing they would do without $1200.00, up front. I countered that I could call the city and have the installation inspected; I was sure that any reasonable inspector would say "no - that's not a correct placement", but I was sure Burkhardt would rather me not do so. More back and forth on hold, at which point, I asked to speak directly to the owner, rather than continue to use her as a mediator. The owner, Doug Erdman, (the same person who had readily and happily accepted the boiler replacement contract) came on the phone and immediately became belligerent, so loud that others in the room (including the plumber) could hear his insults through the phone. He claimed that "nothing was wrong with the installation, and everything was to code". I explained that "code" was not the issue; that the boiler was moved - too close to the air handler, and now, the water heater could not be removed. The belligerence escalated. He yelled, swore, called the plumber and me both incompetent, and insisted that "if it was wrong, the inspector wouldn't have approved it". He then threatened to call the city and check to see if the plumber pulled a permit. He also gave the impression that he had his installation tech in his office, and began taunting him, saying "Hey - this guy and this incompetent plumber say you SCREWED him, that you did your job WRONG - what do you think of THAT?". At this point, I told Mr. Erdman not to yell at me, and that I would be contacting the BBB, Angie's list, the city, and an attorney. This infuriated Mr. Erdman. The swearing and insults became more intense. He continued to speak to the installer as if he were in the room, saying "Hey - now this ###### thinks he's gonna sue us, and sue you for this being wrong, and he's gonna get the city to look at your work". He then threatened to claim that the plumber was incompetent, and that he would need to send anything from MY attorney to HIS attorney who was in CHICAGO, and that I, my wife, 18 month old daughter and newborn would be without hot water "for a long long time" while HE tied this up in court and NOTHING got resolved, and that he would humiliate me and the plumber on any complaint. "I want $1200 up front, cash, or I'm not even gonna TOUCH it". He continued to say that any "competent" plumber would be able to "cut the old heater out". I reminded him that even if the old unit could be cut out, the new one could not be "cut in". At this point, having been threatened and verbally abused, I told him that my other option was to have another HVAC company evaluate the installation, make the required changes, and then collect those damages through litigation. The belligerence and insults further escalated, at which point, I offered to email pictures of the installation, because clearly, this person was unaware of the installation issues. The pictures showed that the water heater could not be exchanged. I received a reply - telling me that there was "room at the top of the boiler" to lift out the water heater. I replied that there was not. After cc'ing my attorney and the city inspector, I received another Burkhardt e-mail from "Scott", indicating he would be calling me shortly. In his call, he offered me two blunt options (1) Send HIM the plumber's quote for the install, and Burkhardt would do it for $50 less, or (B) allow them to come out and remove and replace the HVAC unit, but if the plumber "thought that he was just gonna wheel this thing out and in that wasn't gonna happen". I explained that (1) I called BURKHARDT FIRST and was rudely told that they were NOT plumbers, so how could they possibly install the water heater? Why were they now offering to do something they previously claimed they could not? I declined that option and said they would never again install or service equipment in my home. (2) They installed all the EXTRA plumbing, gas, electric to move the boiler in the first place - for no known good reason. (3) I was here and was able to help the plumber, so it wasn't a matter of not being able to "lift" the units back and forth - that there was physically not the space to move the units in or out. I also asked what I would do the NEXT time I needed to replace/service the water heater, to which he replied "how many times do you service a water heater? you don't service 'em, you just replace 'em". I replied "exactly - and I will not be able to replace the unit without additional work to the HVAC (again)". I asked why the boiler could not be moved back to its original location, he said he could not comment on the phone, that those were my options - I just needed to let him know what I wanted to do. I agreed to let them remove the air handler, but insisted this was a temporary solution to allow my family to have hot water. On the morning of 05/01/2014, I called the city and found that although a permit was pulled for the boiler, it had never been inspected. The slew of people in and out during the boiler's replacement - not one was an inspector. I was also told that $1200 was ridiculous and that any HVAC company could EASILY move the boiler back to its original location, but in the interest of time, the easiest temporary fix would be to move the HVAC out of the way. The technician from Burkhardt arrived; considerably better mannered and professional than the company owner. The technician removed TWO sections of the air handler, because after removing the main section, space was still lacking . The plumber installed the new water heater. The Burkhardt technician then replaced both components of the air handler. Although I now have hot water, I still have an equipment serviceability issue. Update to contractor's response. Mr. Erdman was not present at the service. His second hand summaries are inaccurate, and his false assumptions are plentiful. There were no issues prior to the boiler being moved. The boiler now blocks TWO chimney clean outs, this is not an acceptable explanation and I did not accept it at the time of service. If photos could be uploaded, I would do so. Reading other reviews on this site, this is not the first time Mr. Erdman has moved immediately towards threats, yelling, swearing, and disparaging remarks. Fortunately, I was not alone when these actions occurred. I stand by my account of the incident and have witnesses should the need arise. The fact that the new water heater was larger is irrelevant, since the old water heater could not have been removed either. No amount of lifting or angling would have allowed it, the Burkhardt tech needed to remove multiple sections of the air conditioner in order to free the old water heater. The boiler was moved 8 inches to the left of its original position, blocking in the old water heater. Regardless of whether I used Mr. Erdman's "guy" or any other plumber, the fact remains that the installation would have required disassembly of the HVAC unit, or the boiler moved. The plumber was not incompetent; he did what he was licensed to do. Mr. Erdman's behavior and his continuous disparaging remarks about others should be a warning to other consumers. Update 5/14/2014 Adding insult to injury, after being assured by Mr. Erdman's associate Scott that there would be no charge for a technician to remove and reattach the HVAC unit, I received in the mail yesterday a new invoice from Mr. Erdman for $360, for the work to remove and reinstall the air-conditioner components. This would bring the charges to remediate a botched installation to almost $1600 - for a boiler that originally only cost $4000 installed. I have had other HVAC companies quote returning the boiler to its original location, and been told that there are further issues with the installation, including unsupported runs of 2 inch copper pipe over 15 foot spans and lack of accessibility to neighboring equipment. Update 2/12/2015. I have filed suit against this company.
Description of Work: Update 2/12/15 I have filed suit against this contractor. More lies were posted in his response and this situation has still not been remediated. Replaced a boiler unit, but installed it nearly a foot to the left of its original location, blocking service to the existing water heater. At the time of the sale, the owner of the company made a personal visit; fast talking, offering financing and expounding of his company's solid service record and history, complete with brochures and sales materials. However, later, when an issue arose, the owner's attitude QUICKLY changed. He provided a ridiculousy expensive "remediation" estimate, then yelled, swore, ridiculed, threatened, and verbally abused me and the licensed plumber that I hired.

Burkhardt sent over three installers, and thus the job was able to be finished within a day. They did sheet-metal work onsite, and thus obviated any delays associated with any re-fabrication. Two additional outside air lines had to be installed (previous furnaces used an "internal" air draw. The installers removed the mess of piping associated with the previous humidifiers and hooked the new ones to a warm water feed (it was previously cold water). I was given a comprehensive walk-through of the new system, including the use of the Connex controllers. The work area was thoroughly cleaned up and all waste material was removed by Burkhardt. It was an almost entirely pain-free process (writing the checks is never without pain), with the installers projecting a professional, personable demeanor.
Description of Work: We had two Bryant high-efficency, fully-modulating furnaces installed (987MA42080V17), two active fan humidifiers (HUMXXLFP1518A), and two Connex controls installed. I solicited quotes from a total of 5 Angie's List A-rated heating contractors, and this contractor provided the best price for an "apples-to-apples" comparison of equipment and installation (the price paid included the small manufactures rebates, but NOT the $450 from the Wisconsin Energy Alliance).

The salesperson was thorough and honest, indicating the balance of features and cost. There were a few questions designed to understand our need, but no high pressure and he answered every question he could and admitted when he did not know the answer. As an engineer, I was disappointed that he did not have technical specifications for all the furnaces we discussed, but the information he provided was sufficient to make a decision. The installation crew was quick and accommodating. They even arranged to install the new furnace one day earlier than scheduled when the old furnace died sooner than hoped. I am pleased with the installation and the price quoted.

We called Burkhart to repair a furnace whose pilot kept going out. The service provider arrived promptly, calling when on his way as we requested. We really appreciated that because we do not live there and wanted to be there during the repair. He got to work immediately, locating the faulty part, the thermocouple. He showed me the thermocouple and explained how it was supposed to look instead of how it looked. During his diagnostic check he also located some crusty wire ready to break and replaced it. He was pleasant and efficient. Plan to use them tomorrow, as we got a call tonight on another furnace needing a repair.

It was great. Very polite and capable technician came and gave the furnace the once-over, looked and looked and finally found a small gas leak in one of the furnace parts. Replaced the part, and also reset the part of the furnace that determines when the pump goes on (we have hot-water heat), to make it more efficient (something no other technician had ever noticed to do). The replacement of the broken/leaking part was obviously an extra charge, but it was a very reasonable one. No gouging. I would definitely call this company again. I only wish I'd gotten the name of the specific technician, so I could refer him specifically (and ask for him next time).

They came and they looked at the furnace. I thought that the $69 was a little bit high for just replacing the oil and a bearing. They were quick and efficient.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on our work. Glad we could look everything over quickly and efficiently. Sorry if you feel that $69.95 for the service call is too expensive. Recommend calling around and check what others charge before thinking we charged too much. If one thinks the service call is too high, why would they make the purchase in the first place?

He determined that it would be a waste of my money for him to come out on a Sunday night (higher weekend service charge)only to have to wait to pick up the needed part (transfer moter?) on Monday. He assured me that the temperature inside would not drop to dangerous levels (and it didn't). On Monday morning I received a call at 7:30 am that someone would be out between 11 am and 1 pm. Surprisingly, Kurt called just before 9am to say he was on his way! Kurt also performed my ac & furnace tune-up back in August and was early on that visit as well. Time Warner techs take note! |I was happy I didn't have to waste my whole day (and lose hrs at work) waiting for service. |Upon arrival, Kurt checked out the furnace & walked me through what he had found. He confirmed what he had diagnosed the night before. He ran out to get the new motor and came back to install it all in a matter of 1 1/2 hrs. |I sincerely appreciated the way Kurt answered all of my (new home owner) questions and either explained in detail or showed me what I wanted to know. |I will definately call Burkhardt again for my future HVAC needs.
Description of Work: I called Burkhardt's 24 Hr Emergency number on a Sunday night in January (outside temp about 25 below zero). Kurt, the service tech, called me back within 3 minutes. I explained that my furnace had not been working for several hours and he walked me through step by step trouble shooting.

Smelled gas in basement on a cold Friday evening in January. WE Energies sent someone out who found several leaks and looked at our aging boiler and pointed out several things that needed fixing soon. He turned off our gas overnight but said we could turn it on in the morning to get some heat and hot water. Called Burkhardt Saturday morning; Terry came out and got us to where we could have heat for the next few days. Doug, the owner of Burkhardt, came on Monday, looked everything over and gave us an estimate for replacing the boiler and replacing old leaking gas pipes in the same job. We scheduled the job for Thursday and Friday of that week. Ken, Trevor and Rick came out promptly on Thursday morning; worked hard all day, with some assists from an electrician. By Thursday evening we had our new boiler installed and working and heat in a room that had always been cold. On Friday Ken and Trevor finished the job of installing new pipes and removing old ones. They worked very quietly and efficiently with minimal disruption to us, finished early on Friday, and cleaned up nicely after themselves. Everything works well now. We are very pleased with the work done and with how well we were treated.
Description of Work: Installed new gas boiler; replaced old leaky gas pipes; removed and capped exposed gas pipes no longer being used. Installed a new valve on an old radiator that had never worked.

Great service. Great price win. Win
Description of Work: We have an old boiler system with hydronic heat in the floor. Very nice since it has been this cold however a serious problem when it breaks down. Responded in 2 hours to our call! The problem was a solenoid he replaced and told us we needed a cleaning. Since we are a Auto Body shop we are perfectly capable of this. Performed the procedure (very messy). Now the system wouldn't even turn on. The repairman returned to find the insulation had deteriorated on a ground wire. Repaired, unit is running all for less than $500.00.
