Dave was great to deal with - very responsive and punctual. He was able to set up an appointment soon after my initial phone call to come out and do a quote and perform the task within a few days (my schedule was the problem and he happily worked around me). His team member showed up on time, cleaned up after himself and provided an invoice that fell within the agreed budget. I'd work with these guys again for sure.

Extremely responsive and easy to work with. Came and gave both an estimate and ideas on the best way to handle a slightly tricky job of separating the dryer vent from the bathroom fan vent. Adam arrived on time, was easy to be in the same house with, did excellent work, and cleaned up beautifully. I have rarely been as thrilled with a workman and will be using him again in the future.
Description of Work: Changed six door locks, put a metal vent on the dryer (with a new vent cover), separated the vent on the dryer from the vent on the bathroom fan, installed two bathroom fans, planed down a door, and fixed an interior door latch.

He is excellent. We had some windows that weren't working and he knew how to fix it without him having to take the whole window apart, replaced the ropes. He had come out and bring these little gadgets that he can set in the window that took the place of the ropes. He just had a lot of knowledge on how to fix things that I don't. I was very pleased that he had addressed all the problems that I was having.
Description of Work: Big Dave's Services did our new medicine cabinet counter. We also had a microwave put in and we had him do the fan going outside.

Dave and his employees did an excellent job. I gave Dave the color choices I picked and they built my vanity tops. I wanted laminate., he also gave me suggestions and types that work well. I purchased my sinks and faucets. They installed everything and it looks great. There was one minor leak. They were back in no time to fix it. My plumbing is old and from what I was told when new plumbing is attached to older plumbing this might happen. All went well. I would recommend them to anyone.

He was going to renovate our bedroom into a bath and walk in closet. He was nice and seem to know a lot but was way too busy with other things. He would not return my calls and never got the job done. I had to hire a contracter instead.

I’m very sorry you feel that way, [member name removed]. As we discussed months ago, we were not able to meet your time requirements due to work that we had previously scheduled, we withdrew from consideration on your projects and declined to offer you an estimate or proposal for the work you had in mind. It seems a little unfair that now months later you are now writing to express your opinions when we never had agreed to take on your project nor had we ever prepared an estimate or proposal for you. There are any number of reasons why a particular project, contractor and owner may not be a good fit. One is timing of the project. When a contractor has previously committed time, resources and expertise to a certain owner for a project at a certain location, it simply isn’t ethical to commit to another owner for the same time frame with the same resources. That is precisely what you wanted us to do, and we declined to participate. A second reason why there may not be a match between a contractor, owner and project is for an owner to provide the scope of the project itself. When you first invited us to provide an estimate for you, a kitchen renovation was what we discussed, along with opening up the wall between the kitchen and living room. As time progressed, the scope of the project meandered from a kitchen renovation to a flooring replacement in the living room and hall way to a bedroom floor replacement to a renovation/conversion of a bedroom and to a walk in closet and master bathroom with a few other detours along the way. We provided industry and supplier resources for you to help narrow the project scope so you could provide timely information necessary for a specific estimate on a specific project scope. In over two months of working with you, you were never able to provide a specific project scope with a specific set of all the materials you wanted included. It’s been our experience that similar projects are fully specified within 2-4 weeks. Lack of timely decisions was eating into time we had committed to others, so we declined to further participate and notified you of our decision. We moved on to our other projects, wishing you success in your project while knowing you would likely need to find someone else to do the work for you. Long and short, not every project is right for every contractor, nor is the timing of a project always right for both the owner and contractor, nor does every owner and every contractor always make a good fit for the project at hand. For a variety of reasons, we didn’t have a good fit. Again, I’m sorry you feel the way you do. I hope you were able to find a contractor who was able to serve your needs for your project.

He was prompt when I first called him, he was there quickly and the estimate that he gave me was about what it came in as and is very clear on what needs to be done and he let me pick out the fixtures and he did the work rather quickly but again it wasn't a very big project.

I called Dave yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon and he called me back, but I didn't talk with him until 8:30 last night. He was going to come on Thursday, but when I told him the faucet hot/cold adjustment lever had broken off, he came right away today (Wednesday.) He tried to remove the broken faucet, but, as the plumber had said, it was too corroded. Dave discovered that the HVAC duct would have had to be cut if an access panel was opened up in the other room, so he was determined to remove the old faucet and install the new faucet from inside the bathroom through the hole that was already there and he did just that! His price was $200 less than what the plumber quoted me. Dave will be my go to guy from now on!
Description of Work: This is the second time I have used Dave's service. He remodeled my half bath about a year ago which included demo and install of a new vanity, faucet, mirror and light. He also had to replace a broken drain pipe in the wall from the upstairs bath which included dry wall and plaster. I was extremely pleased with the person Dave sent to do this job and the price was very reasonable. So, when I needed to replace the faucet in my bathtub, a job that a plumber told me would require cutting an access panel in the wall in the adjacent bedroom, I called Dave rather than having the plumber do it.

Dave is very enjoyable to work with. He's friendly, professional and enthusiastic. We hired him to do a couple things and once he started coming, we found more and more things that he could help us with (those projects that we never would have gotten around to ourselves!) The work was done over a few partial days, but it wasn't an issue because we weren't in a big rush. Everything he did was thorough and top notch.

My first call to Dave was great. He responded very quickly and went over to my property and did a 5 minute job at no charge. Next I met up with him with a list of about 15-20 items that needed to be done. Dave and I discussed which were most important and to be done first. Dave was going to email me with estimates. He told the tenant and I that he'd be there by within a week and would contact her before coming. That was the end of Dave.He never did anything on the list. He never gave me any estimates. He never contacted me again or the tenant.I called him twice more and he responded to my 2nd call and said he was busy but he'd get over there asap.I emailed him once more with the list and asked for estimates and a time frame. He did NOT respond thru email or phone ever again. Its been at least 2-3 months that i first spoke with dave.

I hired Big Dave at the last minute to take out a door moulding (it had my kids' heights marked on it over the years) in connection with the sale of my home. It was an unusual molding that required special milling and staining. Dave kindly came out over the holiday weekend twice to give me an estimate and carefully remove the old moulding so we could keep it. He milled and got the new moulding installed before the closing. He was responsive and kind to everyone in my house during a very stressful few days. Thanks, Dave, for such excellent service!

Recommended by a co-worker..I felt he over charged me but I also blame myself because I should have asked upfront what the charges would be...he did not offer an estimate of the bill upfront...had I known, I would not have used him. Dave, I stand by what I wrote....do you really think if you had told me that the fan I was installing was the incorrect size I would have gone ahead?? BTW, you did not come back the same day & it was only after I called you & told you that the cartridge faucet had been installed incorrectly did you come back...of course at no additional charge, YOU INSTALLED IT INCORRECTLY!! If you were really interested in making things right, perhaps the time would have been when I gave you your check & told you I would never use your services again. I'm glad your Angies's List people are satisfied, but I was not...people beware.
Description of Work: Installed a ceiling fan, adjusted a window & fixed a leaky Moen kitchen faucet.....(changed cartridge)...faucet was done incorrectly (hot was cold, cold was hot) & his helper left black fingerprints on ceiling fan blades. The ceiling fan had an unpainted ring around on the ceiling which was not addressed & the fan itself made a clicking noise which Dave claimed was due to being a defective fan..... .I had to call Dave the next day to tell him about the faucet & he did come back that same afternoon to fix it as well as clean the ceiling fan blades....

Response from BIG DAVE'S SERVICES
I had to do a little research on this particular job, as it was performed almost 3 years prior to this report being filed. I'm sorry you feel the way you do. Had I known of your dissatisfaction before now, perhaps more could have been done much sooner. It is our practice to provide an estimate of charges prior to beginning work and to gain the client's assent to begin the work based on that estimate. Our charges are based on time plus materials, and it appears the money involved in this job were within local industry averages as well as average time and materials for our company. Our internal job notes indicate the fan furnished by the client to be installed was an inexpensive imported unit, and the technician noted there was motor noise once the fan was installed. He further noted the unit was not properly sized for the application. We recommended to uninstall the unit so it could be returned to the place of purchase and replaced by the owner with a properly sized, better model, along with reinstallation of the old light fixture, but she declined. It is often the case in fitting modern light fixtures and fans in older homes that proper sizing in critical to conceal "ceiling rings" left by larger, older light fixtures. While there are any number of products and solutions available to address "ceiling rings", our job notes do not indicate there was a discussion or issue noted at the time of installation, other than that the fan unit was not properly sized for the application. It's unfortunate you feel the way you do after so much time has passed. It appears from your report the work we did was not defective, but the product you provided for us to install was defective. In fact, we returned the same day we were notified there was a problem with the work performed and made the necessary adjustments without additional charges. There is little I or anyone else can do when defective, improperly sized products are furnished by an owner for installation and then there is a complaint about the product, not the work. I'd urge you and anyone else reading this to consult with a trusted, reliable installation professional before purchasing and furnishing materials for job installations. Had that been done in this case, or had I been asked to furnish a properly sized ceiling fan, this entire issue could have been avoided. Any reputable installation professional would have replaced any defective materials furnished by the installer (including defective, improperly sized ceiling fans) at their cost prior to billing the client. Quite simply, I can't take responsibility for an inexpensive, imported ceiling fan's proper manufacturing (or lack thereof) nor to replace something I didn't furnish at my cost nor can I make a defective unit heal itself. We take great pride in the A grades nearly all our Angie's list clients have given us on all aspects of jobs we have actually completed for them. I don't know what I can do at this point to satisfy you, but my office is open anytime to discuss what we might be able to do to resolve this issue.

Dave is fantastic and his assistant Adam is TERRIFIC!!!! Sometimes a homeowner has a big fun project like a kitchen or bathroom remodel and I am sure based on their work ethic that Dave and Adam do wonderful work in those situations. They have all the equipment and they really know their stuff. But sometimes homeowners need help with less glamorous projects like mine and that is why I appreciate Dave and Adam and would recommend them to anyone needing help. As a new homeowner the village of Shorewood gave me a compliance list of items that weren't to code or needed replacing or removal. The ugly broken, wooden fence in my back yard along with a dilapidated wooden garden shed needed to go. Adam worked SO QUICKLY and efficiently he had the items removed and very neatly stacked in my driveway for the removal service to pick up. Adam's work it great. But then there was another very unpleasant part of the project that I needed help with and Adam was wonderful. No kidding, there were a couple of dead rats (oh yuck!!!) hiding out in all the fallen debris and Adam shoveled it up and put it in garbage bags for me. As a women working alone on this project I can't tell you how nice it was to have someone I could trust help me out. I know when I need other work done that fits Dave and Adam's usual skills I will be calling them again. But I really, really appreciated their help on this ugly project!

We are very happy with the service that was preformed.
Description of Work: They replaced a leaking toilet shut off and installed a new faucet in the bathroom. I was unable to loosen the shutoff and was afraid that the toilet would have to be removed. They did what I could not do. The only minus is that the technician did not replace the drain or suggest it even though it was available. Unsure what that additional cost may have been.

We had a golf ball-sized hole and cracks in a window pane in one of our basement windows. We were curious about the cost to replace only the one window pane, as well as to replace the entire window (these are 1930's windows). Dave was punctual, friendly, and had been very responsive via email when I was arranging the estimate with him. We got right to the estimate, and he informed us that he could fix our window pane, but that his minimum fee was $95 just for doing any work. He said that would be all we'd pay, since this job wouldn't take him more time than was initially included in the $95 service fee (he asked if we had any other jobs he could also do in the time to make it more worth our money), but he wanted us to know that we could either replace the pane ourselves (which we knew but are afraid to do) or we could take the window out of the frame and bring it to Lumen's Glass, where they could replace the pane while we waited for $20 or so. He said he wanted our business but wouldn't want us to waste our money either. We deeply appreciated his candor and helpfulness, and we will definitely think of Dave the next time we have work to do around the house!

Dave has been wonderful to work with. Our basement had flooded and we lost all of the flooring and baseboards. He was very prompt in returning my phone calls, coming out to give me an estimate and with follow up. He was able to proceed with the job quickly which was important to us and his price was very fair, in fact a little lower than his original estimate. He also found someone for us to install new flooring so with one call to Dave, everything was done well and in a timely manner. Dave and all of his crew were very prompt, professional, and courteous. This was not a quick job from start to finish and Dave did a great job walking us through the process, discussing options and he does quality work. He is very trust worthy and honest and I plan to use his services again soon.
