They did the work on time for the painters. They missed some spots on the chimney since the paint had not been scraped and cleaned, and covered the bricks. They returned promptly and made everything right without holding the painters up. They were cheerful and available throughout. Their advice on the work was useful and excellent.

Art's crew was efficient and professional. The mortar match was exceptional, Before and after pictures confirmed the quality of their work. They left no mess behind. Their main goal was to make it look as if they were never here (mortar match, repair, etc). They certainly accomplished their goal. The cost was well worth it.
Description of Work: The upper 1/4 of our 2 story chimney needed a moderate amount of work, including a crack in the cement cap, loose and cracked mortar, and mildew on the upper brick. After assessing the remaining brick around our house, some mortar and cleaning work was needed in a 2-3 other areas. Art answered my first call immediately and personally. He did his initial assessment the next day, and the work was done within 4 weeks or so.

We were very pleased with Art's work. He responded the same day to come out to provide a bid for the work and accommodated our schedule in light of a closing on the home to get the work done in time. He did fantastic work, and honored his bid even though ultimately he did more work than he originally estimated. We would definitely use him again if needed.

Art and his guys did an excellent job opening a doorway on our brick home so we could install a new door out onto our patio. When they finished it looked as if the doorway was there originally from 1930. They also did a great job on the tuck pointing on the brick exterior of our home. They are very friendly, fair priced and really care about the quality of their work. I will use them again and recommend Art and his guys to anyone.

I was surprised at how good of a match the mortar was. They did a very nice job. I've seen other houses where someone put regular standard cement between bricks and I'm glad I called Art because his guys knew that my mortar needed to be dyed. My chimney cap was cracked and since it's a bigger chimney, his guys mixed the cement on the ground and hauled it up the ladder and poured it right there! The next day they came back to take the wood forms off and I was surprised at how nice it looked.

WOW! Where do I begin? Art Karos responded the day I initially called him and he came to my home on the south side the very next day for an estimate and texted me that same night with the bid amount. VERY quick and painless. Art and his team is an absolute pleasure to deal with all around. He always picked up the phone and responded to text messages. His crew fulfilled their promises and then some. For an example, when Art replaced one of our sills the wooden quarter rounds that hold in the windows was rotted out and Art replaced it for no additional charge. One less thing to worry about. Art and his team meticulously tuck pointed our entire home even the chimney! He blended in the tuck pointing so it won't show in a few weeks after it dries all the way through! Very professional all around! We feel for the price we paid we got an unbelievable VALUE for the dollar. Would hire again in a heart beat, but I don't believe I'll have to because they did such a great job. Hire this mason today.

In addition to the good work, another thing that stands out about Art's team is their being courteous and extremely respectful. His son called me Ms. [my last name; to explain I may be writing this review under my husband], which was a first by any contractor, and I've had several at my current and last house.
Description of Work: Previous masonry work had been done on the house, and it visually stuck out because of the mortar color not matching the original mortar of the house. Art and his team were able to match the color. Also, below grade work had to be done on the top two feet of the basement foundation to repair brick work. I thought the basement foundation work looked like a good job, and another contractor who was doing work at our house said the same thing. The team also was willing to seal coat the top two feet of the basement foundation as another preventive measure from water getting into the basement.

We were so pleased! The bricks match beautifully, and the whole chimney looks new. It turned out that his crew had to replace over three times as many bricks, but Art honored his quote. And they cleaned and polished the chimney cap! The crew was pleasant, polite, and did a terrific job of cleaning up. They asked to store their ladders in our garage overnight, and when they were all done, they left the garage cleaner than they found it!
Description of Work: We had noticed that bricks were starting to come loose from our chimney. One chimney professional told us we had to tear down and rebuild the whole thing for many thousands of dollars. Art said he could replace the missing and damaged bricks, grind the mortar joints, and seal the whole chimney for a quarter of that cost.

Went very well. At the time of the estimate he told me it will take about 4-6 weeks depending on the weather. He came with a crew and did it in one afternoon. Replaced top piece of flue, installed new preformed chimney crown, and then reinstalled our chimney cap. Also did quite a lot of tuckpointing on the chimney ( more than originally discussed). Did not charge extra, and gave me 10% Angie's discount. Cleaned up well, had a good mason and assistant working about 4 hours on this chimney.
Description of Work: Had damaged flue and crown on top of chimney. Also the bricks needed some tuckpointing done.

Don't Look Any Further, Art Karos, LLC. Was and Is the A-TEAM, DREAM TEAM from start to finish!!! I've never wanted to jump on Angie's List in less then 24 hours to review a company/business until our flawless experience - all around WONDERFUL! Like most homeowners in an older home you dread any and all repairs. The age of the house always plays a big part in not only what you need to fix BUT what needs to be fixed first to fix the current issue. In the last year our Brick really deteriorated in specific areas that had water damage. Even after a new roof and the eaves, soffits, boards etc being replaced the damage to the brick was already done. We realized that we had to call someone to evaluate and hopefully fix what was already a lump in our throat we were dreading. I hit Angie's List and did my homework as far as who to call to give us estimates. We chose 3 companies to come out and look, this is where it gets good. I emailed all of them and Art replied first the same day I sent the email and was able to schedule us very quickly for the estimate. Art came with his son who was obviously just as well versed in the process and very nice. We walked around the house, discussed what needed work and my mind was blown! I knew the brick needed to be fixed but I never thought we could address the sills deterioating algae stained look. I had told him I knew they just had to be replaced because of the condition. Art could have told us we needed to replace some sills and create a more lucrative job for his company BUT HE DIDN'T!! To my surprise he said it could be power washed, cleaned and new grout/caulk applied around the sill. The honesty within the first 20 minutes of meeting him was a first. In past home improvements the up-sell, extra's and top of the line whatever's is the part most of us dread. I was actually getting excited, hopeful and optamistic about fixing something, that was a First! We have City Drains that are no longer allowed by the city to use. We had gutters in some places but either way leaves, mulch and some Nerf Darts find their way down those drains. He said he could seal them up so no worries for debris getting in the drains. He mentioned just cleaning up the chimney cap/area which sounded smart, especially since we want to put our home on the market. I informed him we still had 2 other people coming to give us estimates. He said he would write it up and email it which he had to me by the next day. There was no pressure, pestering or bad mouthing other companies. He simply said that if were interested to print and sign the estimate/contract and mail it to him. I was beaming with happiness when he left knowing we could make some improvements that weren't going to kill us financially. Art Karos, LLC., set the bar so high I wasn't sure if the next 2 companies had a fighting chance. As a women you are always on guard talking with a contractor, car salesmen, etc because in most cases it's not our expertise. I was however the one to take on this project due to my spouse's busy schedule. He could not have treated me any more normal, something I respected more then he knew. Art's team arrived early to walk around and go over everything. His son arrived to discuss things with the other employees and work began! These men are not just good, they are excellent at their craft and masters of the masonry domain. Each person was beyond nice, smiled, answered any questions and so polite. They were neat and tidy and very OCD about what they were doing, I mean that in the best possible way. Art came multiple times throughout the day to talk, inspect and touch base with me. He said something that stick's out, "I tell everyone to work as if they were repairing/fixing their own property/item, that's how it has to be." I admire that motto, I live by it in my own job and feel like you will never dissapoint if you live by that. The crew cleaned up perfectly and they had a hard time wrapping things up because they double, triple checked all their work, haha! When my husband got home he was BLOWN away and so impressed with the work that was done. Art, my husband and myself did a full walk through of everything that was done. At this point we realized we were beyond blessed by the generosity of this man. We ended up needing more then 25 bricks replaced, our sills were more work then what was expected...not to mention they did all of them when we had only discussed a few that were really bad. I hope you're following all this because it's one of the nicest things anyone has ever done for us. I'm not done either, haha! Originally we decided that we would just leave the Chimney alone, wasn't even written in the original estimate. ALL THESE THINGS I JUST LISTED WERE DONE OUT OF THE GOODNESS AND KINDNESS OF GREAT PEOPLE AND A GREAT COMPANY AT NO EXTRA CHARGE, WHATTTT? Not once during the day did anyone come to tell me they ran into problems, needed more materials$$ or this is going to cost more etc. They just did it, Our hearts were full of gratitude. We stood around and talked to Art for awhile about other things and realized we were so lucky and fortunate to have had the pleasure to do business with him. He is very relaxed, funny and cares about his team and the job they perform. My husband and I later said he would be fun to just hang out with and shoot the breeze. Thank You Art for making this the most pleasant and amazing experience ever in the 11 years we've lived here and had other companies come and go without making the imprint you did. You have a great business sense and mantaility, don't change a single thing. I've already spread his praises like wildfire to anyone who could ever possibley use any of his companies services. I was actually sad the next day that they weren't here, I didn't mind having them at all I loved it!! One of this employee's Thanked me 3 times when I thanked him. He said, "Thank You for the Work, it's appreciated I'm happy to be working." WOW, no one has ever said anything like that to me. These are very special people. I would have finished this the day after the work when I started writing it but took my time to make sure I didn't miss a thing because there was SO much that I was impressed and touched by. Hope you read this till the end and enjoy any services with this company, They are the BEST!!!!! Like so many other people my husband and I wanted to buy a house and stop renting. We are average middle class 30 something's that bought our first home almost 11 years ago when you were just lucky to find a home with good bones but would eventually have to fix everything else, haha. Over the years we realized our home would've been a great project for "This Old House" and also had a recurring guest appearance on "Seinfeld" as the comedic home that always had something wrong.
Description of Work: We needed about 25 Flaking Bricks to be ground out & replaced on our 1950's Milwaukee home. This particular brick is very rare & extremely hard to come by. We also had our 10 concrete window sills cleaned. The old masonary caulk around the sills was removed and replaced. We had 3 City Drains the gutters ran into capped/cemented closed. Our Chimney cap was inspected and cleaned. Some holes in the brick from screws/nails/old awning hardware were filled.

They were able to salvage and reuse all of the bricks so it looks like the original, and mixed the cement with colors that match it to the existing, too Very professional..It took about 4 days altogether.
Description of Work: I hired Art Karos LLC to tuckpoint my chimney. They discovered a major problem - The original clay flue liners had completely fallen apart. They opened up the side of the chimney and installed 6 new vitrified clay flue liners , needed from the roofline up. I have a 1907 vintage 3 story Victorian home in Bay View with a steep roof. They tuckpointed brickwork in other areas, too.

Art rebuilt an intricate Lannonstone wall for me. They assembled it superbly. When the job was finished, you could not distinguish a difference from the original because of his excellent work.. I could not believe he was able to match the stone and mortar so Well. I received 4 bids. He quoted me the most reasonable amount and did such excellent work, it was hard to believe he could do such quality work for the money. I would recommend him to everyone.

I got four bids. Mr. Karos came in with the best plan to fix the problem and at the best price. Given the cold weather we had to wait until spring, but to get us through the winter months Art wrapped the entire chimney in plastic to keep water from getting in. That quick fix did the trick and we didn't have a problem. The first week of consistently warm temperatures came in early April and Art and his crew were at the house right away to begin work on the chimney. Art Karos and his stone mason Dieter did an outstanding job on my chimney. They were punctual, friendly and personable with my wife, children and neighbors, they cleaned up after themselves each day, and completed all work within 3 days. In addition, Art discovered that our radon mitigation exhaust pipe didn't have a cap on it, so he went and bought one and installed at no charge. In addition, we had our chimney cleaned this past September. We used a local chimney firm because they had a 20% off special on cleaning services. After the chimney guy finished cleaning he made a comment that whoever did our tuck pointing and cap work did an excellent job.
Description of Work: During last year's Thanksgiving dinner rain water had leaked through the chimney and began to stream down the chimney wall in our dining room. After inspecting the chimney in the attic we discovered rain water was streaming through cracks in the chimney and heading straight down into the ceiling and then down the wall in the dining room. As a quick fix we wrapped plastic around the chimney to catch the water and funneled it into buckets. The following Monday we had a chimney contractor out to take a look. We learned we needed a new cap and tuck pointing and the work couldn't be done until Spring.

I was surprised at how fast Art and his crew got the job done. Art personally came out and brought the materials as his crew was up on the roof. As they were Rebuilding the chimney, because several bricks were missing, Art went to get a chimney cap. It was a nice touch because we were getting bats in the furnace. Now we don't have that problem. I was surprised at how quick the work was done. Hats off to Art and his crew. I would use him again without question if I ever needed any work done on my chimney.
