It was a repair and a new molder. They were prompt and did a friendly service. They did the job well.

Greg called in advance and said he was doing some work in my area and would be by after he completed his work around 11:00 AM. He called after his job was complete and arrived just a few minutes after 11:00. Greg went right to work checking out my dishwasher. I told him the problems, which is that it would fill with water, but the spray arms weren't spraying and the washer wouldn't drain. I told him I had taken apart most of the spray and drain components, but couldn't find any blockages. Greg was pretty sure he knew what was wrong before even taking a look. He was right, he found that the plastic drive shaft on the washer motor had broken. Since he noticed that I was able to disassemble most of the unit he said I could likely install the replacement parts myself! He brought up the parts website and showed me which parts to buy, walked through the basic install steps and charged me nothing for the visit. He said he was in my neighborhood and since he only spend about 15 minutes checking things out that he would waive his visit fee. I would highly recommend Greg, he understands that times are tight and did what he could to save me some money and recognized that I would be able to do this work saving me (and costing himself) a trip and service charge.
Description of Work: My Kenmore diswasher conked out, call Appliance Rescue Service to check it out for me. Greg checked out the washer, noted that I could probably fix the washer myself if I wanted to. Told me which parts to order, walked through the basic install steps and charged me nothing for the visit!

I had previously used this company for dishwasher repair and had been happy with their service, so I called them again. My Whirlpool dishwasher had been malfunctioning and the clean light had been flashing. We had looked up on the internet how to reset the appliance, but we continued to have problems, so I called Appliance Rescue Service. I didn't get an answer, so after multiple attempts to call, I requested an appointment online.I promptly received a call back to schedule a service appointment. I scheduled the appointment with the receptionist on Friday. The appointment was on Monday. Greg arrived promptly but appeared irritable from the outset. I described the problem we had been having and the reset process we had attempted. I tried to start the dishwasher to show him the problem, but it worked correctly. He asked me how many times the "clean" light would flash when we were having the problem. I said that I didn't know because I hadn't counted the flashes, and he said he couldn't do anything without knowing that. He said I should have learned that on the internet when I learned about the reset function. He asked if I had pulled out the tech sheet yet. I didn't know what he was talking about, so he removed a panel from the bottom of the machine and located an instruction sheet. I was not aware that the tech sheet even existed. He told me to count the flashes of the "clean" light and call back, and that he couldn't do anything for me that day. I told him that it would have been nice if someone had told me on the phone to count the flashes. He told me that I hadn't even talked to anyone since i had scheduled my appointment online. I told him I had actually talked to the receptionist who had called back to set up the appointment. He said if she knew the questions to ask, she would be out fixing dishwashers herself instead of answering the phone. He easily have called me himself on Friday and let me know that I needed to count the flashes before he could fix my dishwasher. In my online request for an appointment, I did include the problems we were having and I specified that the "clean" light was flashing, so he could have saved himself a wasted trip and could have repaired my dishwasher and received payment from me if he had done this. Instead, he spent ten minutes telling me what I should have done differently, and then left. If he had not been so rude and critical, I would still have called him back once I had the information he asked for. However, on reflection, I decided that I didn't want him in my home again after the way he treated me. I called the company and asked for a different repair person, but I was told that Greg is the only repair person who works in my area. For that reason, I won't be using this company again. I called a different company, whose repair person asked all the right questions on the phone before coming, repaired my dishwasher in a single visit, and I will be using that company instead from now on.
Description of Work: Technician looked at my dishwasher but performed no services.

Hello Member. I'm sorry that you weren't happy with me our our company on this most recent visit. However, you haven't really related our discussion the way it went in person. When I arrived, before you allowed me to examine the appliance, you informed me that "the control must be bad because you read on the internet that this is a common problem" and it was you who became irritated with me when I tried to politely explain to you that we need to check things over before we replace an expensive part, and perhaps that's not what you needed anyway. As I tried to tell you that day I was in your home, the last thing we want to do is sell you an expensive part and then have you become upset when the machine still does not work properly. You didn't seem to want to listen to that advice. Regarding the tech sheet, I asked about that because you sounded as if you had done extensive research on your dishwasher before you called for service. I also took the time to show you the tech sheet, and took the time to show you the various fault codes and how the flashing clean light was indicator of what the machine is trying to tell us what it thinks is wrong with it (It's a self-diagnostic system) . You also left out the fact that when I arrived, your machine was working properly and that I did not charge you anything for the service call that day. ;) The machine was not displaying any fault codes, and it started and ran fine. I believe I tried it several times in your presence. You told me yourself that the machine could go "as long as three weeks" without malfunctioning. You demanded an answer anyway, you wanted me to tell you what was wrong with it, when it was not malfunctioning. it's no different than expecting a doctor to know what's wrong with you if you have a stomach ace, and when you get to the doctor's office, you don;t have one any longer. I wasn't able to tell you what was wrong at that moment in time, and I realize when I said "Member from what you are telling me I could have been here every day for three weeks watching your dishwasher run thru cycles and not malfunction, so how would I be able to tell what's wrong?" that you REALLY became agitated So, rather than charge you anything, I said "Just keep an eye on the machine and if the clean light begins to flash, please count the number of times and then we can get the fault code and zero in on the problem. You were not charged for the service call, nor the time I spent explain things to you in great detail. I told you to have a great day and went on with my route. Then you called a few days later and gave a different name. Just like you list here your name as "Member", you filled out our online form, which i still have, and said your last name was "another name", so when our dispatcher asked me if I had been to a customer by the name of "Member" I did not recall any customer with that name. Then she asked if you were "another name" and you said "Yes" (?) As for your positive previous experience with our company, I was the technician that time as well. I guess you liked me better that time. I repaired your machine quickly and went on my way. If you and anyone else reads over the many, many positive reports, you'll find a common theme is people mention how well I explain things so they understand exactly what I am doing and why. I am not rude to our customers, it's actually quite the opposite. For whatever reason, when I arrived at your home that day, you seemed to be in an unpleasant mood fro the get-go and I said to myself "Maybe she's just having a bad day" and shrugged it off. You didn't seem to be very receptive to me trying to be HONEST and not take advantage of your suggestion that the computer was bad. It very well could have been. But it worked fine when I was there and you told me it could go "a long time without malfunctioning" Anyway, the bottom line is, you found someone else to fix your dishwasher and they did a good job so that's a good thing and I'm glad that you now have a working dishwasher. Thank you for your past business, and for taking the time to let people know about your experience with my company. (I happen to be the owner)

Greg was at my home in the time frame he said he would be there. He spent time trying to find the problem...not just an in and out job. He took the time to explain everything to me. Very knowledgeable. Cleaned up everything before he left. He didn't charge me anything since he couldn't fix it. I would definitely use him again.
Description of Work: I had a problem with my dryer not heating up. Greg came out to take a look at it. He spent time trying to find the problem. He replaced a part he thought could be the problem but the dryer still didn't heat up. He checked everything else and thought the motor was the problem. Since the motor is a more costly fix and the dryer is older we came to the same conclusion... replace it. I felt he explained everything to me in terms I could understand.

My oven stopped working. I called Appliance Repair and was told I would receive a call back from the technician. Gregg returned my call in a timely manner and worked with me to identify the heating element that would probably work in my old oven. He was able to schedule me for the next day! He came as promised. My oven was fixed within 24 hours of my call! Excellent service!!
Description of Work: The baking element in my VERY OLD built in oven needed to be replaced. The part or "substitute part" had to be located and installed.

The technician moved the fridge carefully and cleaned up any debris - both from him and from dust caught under the fridge. He was thorough, kind and considerate. We were charged only one trip charge - although this required two. Should something go wrong with an appliance in the future, we will give this company a call first.
Description of Work: Although do not have an ice-maker, our refrigerator was leaking water. The technician determined the problem - which was likely due to a manufacturing defect. He provided options - which included getting the part from the manufacturer or having him get it. He explained the pros/cons of each option. After I received the part, I scheduled the second visit, for the actual installation of the part.

Excellent experience. Great scheduling. Communication couldn't be better. They called to schedule when they said they would and arrived when they said they would. Greg also showed me what was going on with each burner and explained how to resolve one of the problems myself should it crop up again. It is great to have a company to call upon for repair needs, as calling the big-name appliance store for service seems like quite an undertaking.
Description of Work: Called with two issues on my gas cooktop. One burner would not ignite (no clicking) and another burner had the clicking ignition but was slow to light. One burner had been non-functional for a while. Greg came out, explained both issues and how to resolve them, and fixed one on the spot. He pulled out his computer and ordered the part for the non-functioning burner right away. He explained that as soon as the part was in, within several days, they would call to install it. Indeed, 2 days later the part was in and we arranged for a date to have it installed. Piece of cake.

Appliance Rescue Service helped me quickly and efficiently deal with a wiring problem inside a Frigidaire stove that was causing our breaker to trip. The owner was delayed in arriving to our house but he communicated very well with me, giving me a couple of updates on the unusual delay he was experiencing. Once at my house, he dug right into the problem and quickly diagnosed the issue within 10 minutes. He was very friendly and helped to educate me about the appliance while he was repairing it. All told it was a very good experience and the price was right for the work performed.

The food in my refrigerator was getting warm while the freezer compartment was over-cooling. I called in the morning, was informed of the service call charge, and was told someone could be here between noon and 2pm. The technician was here before one, discovered the problem immediately and fixed it on the spot. I'm a very happy customer!
Description of Work: After I explained the problem, Greg went right to work and exposed the errant fan, which he set to working immediately. He explained that the work is guaranteed for 30 days, so if it malfunctions again, he'll come back and replace it with no further trip charge.

I was able to schedule a repair appointment within a few days, the technician arrived within the time window they gave me, and was very concerned about not inconveniencing me by getting the job done quickly. He took apart the dryer and replaced 3 gears (or wheels) and put it all back together, all in under 1.5 hours--and he had to make a trip to get a part. The squeal was gone!! I had let it go on for a while, so I was very happy it was an easy fix and my delay hadn't caused damage to other parts. The technician also informed me that my model of washer has no parts that needed to be lubed or checked, as long as I was having no issues, nothing needed to be done with the washer. I was impressed by his honesty and professionalism, I would definitely use them again in the future.

He didn't charge me but he said to call me if it happens again, he thought it might be something in the back but he couldn't tell. We got mouse traps the next day and the following day we caught a mouse and the dishwasher has been working fine since then. He called me back to see how it was working I told him about the mouse and he never billed me. I thought he was great, he never charged me for the visit. He saw the mouse droppings that I had never seen. He didn't try to sell me parts or anything which I thought was very honest of him.

See above. That's my story and I sticking to it.
Description of Work: The mechanic responded to a call that the dishwasher was getting the dishes clean. He looked it over and could see that the pump was not functioning properly. He then went down into the pump area. In the process, he cleaned out a lot of debris that had accumulated down there. He discovered that the "chopper" had broken. He replaced the chopper and reassembled the lower part of the machine.

I contacted ARS via e-mail and NO SOONER than I hit enter did they call me back. Wow! Made an appointment for three days in the future, exactly at the time/date that I requested. The technician Greg called me at first on my home phone and must have realized I said 'mobile' as my preferred so he called back right away on my cell to let me know that he was nearby and would arrive in a few mins. When he arrived, he got a quick explanation of the issues from me (dryer not getting hot) and wanted exact details...like it is hot for 5 minutes when you turn it on and then after the dryer cycle runs its course you come back downstairs and your clothes are not dry....for the washer, it sounds like a freight train when it spins and it leaks somewhat out of the bottom....He had the washer apart in about 1 minute and explained with a flashlight every single thing that was wrong with it, and if he fixed x then 3 months from now y might give way, the cost of the parts, the age of the machine--he had so much experience that he knew EXACTLY what was wrong. He said he didn't recommend repair at this time. Put it back together and explained that it was usable until the next big thing gave way (rusted springs, etc) and what sound I will hear when it finally does give up the ghost. He took off the front cover of the dryer, cleaned out some of the lint (a bit embarassing) and turned it on...we got down on our hands and knees and he showed me what he thought was wrong, and lo and behold it happened right in front of my eyes. $22.00 part, vacuumed out the inside of the motor compartment, tested it and he was on his way out the door. He was here a total of half an hour, was nice to my dog, and was completely and utterly amazing with his level of knowledge. Even told me that my other appliance repair guy was a great guy, too. WIth an Angie's list coupon the whole trip cost $87.07 and my dryer is working and my washer has been blessed to go to washer heaven.
Description of Work: Analyze washer leakage and source of noise; analyze source of dryer heating problem. Make recommendations for both; ultimately fix dryer and put washer back together to die a slow death.

It want very very well. He can within the window of time that he promised. The part came in quickly, and we were called immediately to inform us and to schedule the next visit to do the repair.
Description of Work: The technician checked out our dishwasher which was making some noise and the top spinner was not operating, leaving some residue on the dishes..He said it needed a new spinner attaching device and would need to order it. He did not charge anything at that time. He explained that the noise was the grinder chopping up large pieces of something that was washed off the dishes. Then he returned the following week with the new part and put it on, at which time I paid him. He also encouraged us to perhaps use hotter water than using the water heater in the appliance.

The repair man made an appointment that was convenient for me. He called before arriving, and arrived on time. It took about one minute for him to diagnose a transmission problem in my washing machine, and he advised me that the repair would cost around $300. I decided that it made sense to replace the washer. The service man did not charge me for the call, because he stayed less than 5 minutes and did not do a repair. I appreciate this company's efficiency and great customer service. I will definitely call them again.

Thank you for your kind comments and for choosing our company. As the the tech who went on this call, I would like to clarify for anyone reading this report- I did take the time to remove the machine's 3-sided cover and properly determine the issue, I didn't just walk in and say "bad transmission". Also with the economy being like it is, we decided not to charge you for a trip so that you could use that savings toward a new purchase. (Our company does not sell appliances, we only service them) Again, thank you so much for taking the time to come back to Angie's List and and complete a report on our company.
