It took over a month to get someone out to my house. They sent a young guy named Will. I told him I didn’t use my fireplace because it always smelled like gas. He checked it and said there was no gas leak. I called the company back for another service call and this particular gentleman was wonderful. But, he found a very big gas leak. The lives of my family could’ve been compromised very easily!!!!

Wonderful experience from Brian, our salesman, to the installers. Brian was able to expedite this for us as our schedule was tight which was much appreciated. The price was great. We had shopped around and were told it was a 3-4 month wait due to high demand. Brian was able to turn this project around in less than one month. Would definitely recommend to anyone.

Very well. The 2 men (Brian and Rob) worked very hard. Brian was up on the roof cutting, flashing and working in 95 degree heat. When there was a problem with the installation height, I called and they scheduled right away to take care of it and install it to our specifications.

Working with them to schedule an appointment was painless, and when they arrived they were prompt, friendly, and professional. When I smelled some gas the next day they came back within an hour of me calling, and diagnosed and repaired the issue (we hadn't used the fireplace in years and the valve had corroded). The inspection and cleaning was $225 and replacing the gas valve was $75. Would use them again without hesitation.

We worked with Chris Mitchell on the estimate. Chris was responsive and helpful. We got quotes from a couple other companies including a lower priced option. American Heritage was able to meet us in the middle on price. The work at our house was done by Carlos & Ruben. They did a great job on keeping the mess out of our house when they removed the old tile liner. They explained all of their work along the way (about 4-5 days of work) and did a great job! We would use American Heritage again based on our experience.
Description of Work: Removal of existing clay fireplace tiles in chimney and remove existing crown on 100-year old house. Install custom-sized stainless steel liner in wood-burning fireplace and separate liner for furnace/hot water heater. Insulate chimney with Thermix and pour new chimney crown around new clay tile extensions and install new stainless caps.

This company was wonderful! They came 2 weeks after we started this process and worked for 4 days on replacing the entire gas fireplace, raising the mantel, and replacing all the brick on the front. Things were not up to code and they fixed it all. They were very professional and did a fantastic job. They cleaned up the area everyday and took great care to keep the dust/dirt contained. We would definitely refer them and continue to use their services. My mom may be using their services also and she is very particular.

We purchased a gas fireplace insert at American Heritage and had them install it. Initially I thought installation went great until the crew left and I went to the basement and found they have left a huge hole in the cinder block walls and left a lot of cement debris from drilling a hole for the gas line, it was clear they made no effort to clean up in the basement. I had to call them back to fill in the hole which was inconvenient. Then, at the time of initial purchase the salesperson had made it seem as though getting a permit for the work was optional. It is partially my fault that I did not research it beforehand, but after installation I found out a building permit was required for this work where I live, and therefore I ended up having to pay 4 times the normal permit fee for getting it late. Then when I had the work inspected by the building inspector, it was not up to code and required many months of phone calls and appointments to get the work fixed and up to code. Finally, throughout the two years we have owned the fireplace, if it is on or even if just the pilot light is on, it gives off a faint gas odor. If we turn fireplace on, after just a few minutes there is a horrible odor to it, like something is burning. We followed all of the recommendations that come with the fireplace regarding burning it for 6 hours to let any residual manufacturing oils and paints burn off. Despite following the recommendations, we can't even use the fireplace because of the horrible smell that comes from it. Purchasing this gas insert and choosing American Heritage are my biggest regrets when it comes to any home improvement we have done in the past 10 years.

Called the company, explained the problem. I sent pictures and the service manager got back to me with various quotes. Based on my explanation and pictures, he was able to determine it could be one of a few problems. He quoted me a range of prices depending on what needed to be fixed. The service technician arrived within the time window given. He did a great job, fixed the problem, cleaned the fireplace. A very good company.

I had a Lopi woodburning stove and the flue bypass damper would jam occasionally so that it couldn't be closed (letting all that nice hot air go up the chimmney!). We also had the CO alarm go off in the middle of the night and the firemen said the woodburning stove was the source of the CO. Furman from American Heritage came out and put some sealant around the flue liner and tightened the doors--that solved the CO problem. The jamming bypass damper was a bit more problematic. It was covered by the warantee (parts and labor), but Furman said the coverage was for only $40 of labor (which was a small fraction of the labor required), so I had to pay the rest. I guess that's Lopi's issue, not American Heritage's, but as a Lopi dealer, I expected more from them. Furman could not figure out why it was jamming on the first visit so I had him come out again, which involved a second trip charge. On the second visit, he shortened the height of the yoke controlling the damper by 1/4 inch, and that fixed the jamming problem. He also lost a part to my stove on the first visit, so I could not use the stove for a couple weeks until that part was ordered and replaced, but he provided that part free of charge (I installed it myself).

We were very satisfied with the work and information provided. Jim the owner was very helpful and patient on the phone in deciding which services we needed. They were professional in all of our contacts, prompt, and did good work. The price was very fair, as they accepted a local coupon deducting $25 from their normal price. We were very happy overall and would use them again.
Description of Work: We asked them to inspect our gas fireplace logs and clean them, check the gas connections, and all parts. They gave us a 3 hour window of arrival and the young man was right on time. He spread out cloths over the carpet and we moved objects out of his way. He laid out the logs and proceeded to brush off black soot. He checked the gas connections, rearranged the embers; and added some new ones; he visually inspected the chimney and checked the grate and damper. He then replaced the logs in a pleasing way and tested the flames. We rearranged the logs several times until we liked the look. He was very informative about proper use of the damper, about the type and height of flame, and chimneys. He rolled up the sooty cloths without a problem.

There is no other way to work on any type of unit without doing it step by step. For that, they did a grood job.
Description of Work: First call was on 9-19-2012 for checking out why the gas didn't ignite. Found out that the thermal coupling was cracked, which was replaced. A few days later started the fireplace up to find out the back light or the blower didn't work. Service came out a week later to find an elect. plug loosened up. Light worked. No charge. A few days later again started the fire up to find that the blower still didn't work. Came over to check the sensor that didn't quite work right. No Charge. Called again in which service dept. informed me that they contacted the factory about the blower, which they stated that they had some problems with the blower sensor. Serviceman came a fourth time with a new sensor to correct the problem. Even though it cost me for the sensor, which I figured, but also another service call. Since the blower was one of the problems from the start we agreed to a reduced charge for the service call. All in all, They did a good job in trying to locate the problems one at a time. Even though it took almost a month to correct I realize that this is their busiest time of year. I would definitely use them again. Especially since now they are very knowledgable on my unit.

Originally had Firplace Ltd. come out & try to fix my gas fireplace (I bought it from them originally). That experience was terrible - out $150, no working fireplace & they said all they could do was sell me a new unit for thousands of $$. These guys were completely different. Fermin came out as scheduled, analyzed the problem, had the part with him & fixed it within an hour. Works great! It was a little pricey @ $415 for a new valve, but I'm satisfied. They have won my business.

My fireplace wasn't working. The tech came out and did some tweaking to get my gas log fireplace working. He tested it and found that the thermopile was still working, but was starting to go. He gave me the option of whether or not I wanted to have it installed. Called and got the part cost instantly. I opted to have it installed. I paid $125 for the fireplace cleaning and repair and only had to pay for the parts to have that installed. Excellent value and a great experience!

The work was done over 5 days because of staining/drying work. The major tear out and removal of the old damaged system included sealing off old fireplace, removing old firebox and chimney liners. They did gas and electrical work (including permits), then installed the insert. I supplied the tile surround, but they did a beautiful jov of installing it, and fitted and trimmed the new to the existing area with some good design suggestions for how it all would work.

These guys were GREAT from start to finish. LOVE their showroom. No pressure selling, just a desire to give us what we wanted. I was particularly fond of dealing with Melvin, who was so down to earth and well-informed. They managed to get what we wanted VERY quickly and installed it with ENORMOUS attention to detail. This included the fact that they had a MUCH harder time drilling through our 1960s basement wall for the appropriate piping, and spent several hours getting it done, with no additional charge to us. We had hoped to get a mantel too, but their careful safety inspection revealed that the place we needed to put it to accomodate some existing stone work, was too close to the fire itself. I miss the mantel but appreciated that they were more interested in our safety than making another $400. We shopped around quite a bit, and they beat other place's prices by a mile. After our great experience, our neighbors asked about them, and used their service a month after us!!
