Description of Work: I had a half wall that was hit by a car and destroyed. It took a month of calls to finally find a mason that could do the job this year, that didn't cost a fortune. He called back right away, my wall is almost done, it looks great!

Description of Work: The estimator seemed rushed in checking the masonry cracks. I found more after he left. I am uncomfortable with the proposal - it seems to low for the work required. I am an architect and have extensive experience with contractors who underestimated - they try to make costs back with every change over an that leads to tensions and delays.

Description of Work: Last fall AO Handy redid the tuck pointing in the bricks trimming our front sidewalk. They also did some small patching in our concrete driveway. They were very professional and prompt. What really impressed me was their response when I called to report that a small area of the repair was again cracked. They were out in two days to redo the area. I would definitely use them again.

Description of Work: We hired A.O. Handy for badly needed and extensive masonry work on the exterior of our c.1927 Tudor Revival home. They completed the project today and we couldn't be more happy. They responded very promptly to my initial request for an estimate. We had solicited estimates from three different masonry firms and we felt their quote was most in line with what repairs we deemed necessary and affordable. | |The work began promptly after the contract was signed and Andy and his crew worked steadily everyday until the work was completed. The masonry repairs we had done included a partial rebuild of our chimney and front stoop, together with extensive tuckpointing as needed. I was especially impressed with how closely they were able to match the color of the new mortar with that contained in the old joints. Another aspect of their work which we were very impressed with was how tidy they kept the job site and how well they cleaned the area up before they left for the day. | |In summary, if you're looking for quality "Old World Craftmanship" at a fair price, I would highly recommend A.O. Handy. It truly was a pleasure dealing with Andy, his son, Arthur, and the rest of the crew.

Description of Work: He came to look at our foundation and masonry. We have some leaks and I wanted to know what my options were for fixing them. He explained how the issue could be fixed (a combination of things I had planned to do such as caulking the gap between the foundation and the driveway and fixing cracks/holes in the foundation). He gave us an estimate for the work, and for a few other minor issues he found with the masonry. We will most likely have them do the work once the foundation has warmed up sufficiently.

Description of Work: AO Handy did not do any work for us. I did initially purchase a masonry assessment from them, as an Angie's List special. I was supposed to have been contacted within 5 business days. It took 2 weeks. They continued to blow deadlines to followup. I got tired of dealing with them and asked them to refund my money. Their customer / office mgt is awful. Will not do business with them again because of that.

Description of Work: He showed up and gave us an estimate. He appeared to have the knowledge and experience to tell us what needed to be done but he didn't seem that interested in getting our job. We felt he gave us a high bid because he didn't need or want the work. That is very subjective but that is how we felt.

Description of Work: This was my first purchase of a "Angie's List Big Deal" and I need to find out how to get my money back. First I was never contacted by the contractor like I was told I would be twice. I called the number listed and was welcomed with a 'Hello'. The phone# is a work and personal/home number so obviously this is a business ran out of a home. I did get a call back a few days later and was told I'd get anouther call back to schedule something this week but that has not happened. I've had good experiences and bad experieces with contractors but this was a complete waste of time and money so far.

Description of Work: We received an estimate from another contractor prior to calling A O Handy but then saw Handy's review on Angies lists. We needed tuck pointing on our front entry, and a masonry rebuild under our front entrance. Andriy came on Wednesday afternoon and quoted us. We called on Thursday, and he arrived with a contract and assistant and got right to work. Matched the brick perfectly, tuck pointed and finished Friday afternoon. A beautiful job. Additionally, his price was much less than the original estimate that we received. He sized up the problem and completed it with a job that exceeded our expectations. We highly recommend and would call again.

Description of Work: Work Performed: Brick repair, tuck pointing, and sidewalk replacement. A.O. Handy (Andy) performed above my expectations. He and his crew started working the day after I requested his work and was very prompt at finishing the job. All of the work that I had done was finished within a week. No interaction was needed to be sure the job moved along. I'm serious when I say these guys performed above expectations. My house has brick that is rare is not easy to find. Since I had cracks in the brick on 3 sides of the house I was thinking that repair would include cutting and rejoining the brick (like tuck pointing) with a similar material. Instead Andy searched and was able to find the brick and cut it down to the correct size. Sections of the brick wall were replaced which is the best way to fix damaged brick work. Additional tuck pointing was done in areas where it was needed. I also had sidewalk replaced on 2 sides of my house which turned out great. The quality of the material was the best, re-bar was put in place for reinforcement (which I wasn't expecting), concrete was poured to 5 inches thick, was graded properly, and was insulated properly near the house and opposite side. Some minor landscaping was even done to make his work blend in with the existing surrounding. Andy and his crew were courteous to my neighbor which I was grateful for since our houses are so close. He gave me an update on the progress every day when I would come home from work.

Description of Work: I needed to have the two brick walls on either side of my garage door realigned, This involved removal of the bricks, the mortar removed from the bricks and the wall reassembled. I also had tuckpointing done to several other places.

Description of Work: Rebuilt a smaller chimney; also replaced bricks that had been removed during a phone/cable repair. He then went beyond what was asked and replaced any other bricks that he saw that needed replacing, and worked on tuckpointing as needed--all for the quoted price.

Description of Work: Exterior cinder block underneath wooden front porch was "back-plastered" and gaps between bottom of porch and ground were sealed in with bricks. Also, gaps between wooden steps and brick areas were sealed.
