We received a quote from J. Van Horn that was reasonable. At the time, they said that they would do the job in a continuous way and not transfer workers on and off the job. They also said they would put a drop cloth down when they did the scraping for the exterior of our home and try to minimize damage to plantings. Near the date that the work was to begin (about two months later), we called to ask what the estimated start date would be. We heard nothing. Several days later, we phoned again asking if they could give a few days notice so that we could move some things away from the house. Again, no return call. Then, about 5 days later, without notice two workers arrived on a Monday morning. They did not come to the front door. They started unpacking to begin spray washing and when we went outside, they knew nothing about the details of the contract we had signed. They said they would not put anything down on the ground and that plantings around the house were not their concern. They said paints chips would probably be everywhere when they finished - up to 30 feet from the house. These men only did the paint removal and a different crew would paint. We asked them to call their supervisor, who arrived about an hour later. He was also unwilling to honor what we had been told when we signed the contract. We said this was different than what we had signed onto and told them the job was off. Our experience with J Van Horn delayed getting our house painted a year because it was too late in the season to find another painter.

He finished the work in a day and a half. He had good amount of men to work with him. They did a really nice job. He has been in the area for a long time. His son also works with him. He has a good team. They used a really good paint. They took everything off from my porch and patio and put it in a safe place. They were very careful while painting and did not mess up the place. They were very quiet while doing the job. His price was probably a little high.
