Initially, we felt Randy was the best candidate for our project. He has over 40 years of experience in the field and spoke as though he knew the trade well. Not long after he started working, we started to realize he was not all that. The first day he worked for us, he had invited a couple, (family or friends) to visit with him...at our home. They were here for at least an hour, which I am certain we paid him for. He did not come back after that until we had moved out of our home. Due to the fact that our home was literally moved from it's existing location, we could not live in it. We did, however stop by everyday to check on the progress. Every day that Randy worked, there was always a mess to clean up. Debris and scraps were just left where ever they fell. Countless Pepsi cans and bottles were left everywhere. Very unprofessional! At one point, a batch of concrete needed to be mixed. Some of the concrete powder had found it's way to our patio table, which was leaning up against our garage for storage. Randy failed to clean up after himself...again. After several rain showers, the concrete powder became wet and eventually hardened. I found this to be very disrespectful to our property. Several inaccuracies had been found in his craftsmanship including crookedly nailed studs, missing studs and unfinished studs throughout the perimeter of our basement. When brought to his attention, his answer was "that was not part of the original bid". So, I guess if something is not in the original bid, it does not need to be done right! Unbelievable! Upon sharing all of the unacceptable work that had been done. He had no remorse or care for the fact that the job was not well done. After Randy was told that he was done with us, he became a bit hostile and threatening. All he wanted was his money. No attempt was made to work things out or reduce any fees. We had requested copies of all materials receipts and a log of hours worked. He refused to supply this documentation. Instead, we received a call from the title company stating Randy was planning to place a lien on our property. Because we just wanted to be rid of Mr Durst, the final bill was paid. If we did have the extra money to pay for court costs, we would have pursued that route. We are not unreasonable people. The several other contractors we employed were wonderful. Guess we just found one bad seed!
