+ -1 moreWe had a new gas fireplace that was to be installed in basement. We contacted great american fireplace to install it and we found out that the piping was no longer in production. They were able to get some ordered with a little lead time. This was going to slow down project, but while at their showroom we found a brick we liked for the front of the fireplace. So we were able to stay on schedule and we love the fireplace and how it turned out.
Description of Work: Installed a gas fireplace and laid a brick face to the fireplace.

+ 3 moreWe gave them the plan and signed the contract in April. Finally in August the work began. We're were on a schedule to get in the house before winter set in which we made clear at the signing. We barely made it and I was still working when the movers came. All in all, the materials were sub standard, and the workmanship shoddy. I just found out that my 12 year old roof will have to be replaced due to cheap shingles that were installed incorrectly. The roofers, and I use that term loosely didn't bother to use any flashing which now is causing the roof to leak at the seams and valleys. The concrete work wasn't packed down properly and is sinking and cracked. The windows leak and aren't sealed properly. The siding was installed unprofessionally. Exterior doors aren't air tight. Once these guys got our money, they were gone for good.
Description of Work: My husband and I were out of state transplants, retired,and had this outfit build us a custom designed retirement home on land we had owned for several years. It was made clear at the start that we would do the finishing work I.e. interior painting, interior millwork, flooring, lighting, appliances, etc. and their estimate reflected that. The owner was a pleasant enough fellow, but once the work was started he wasn't the one we had to deal with. A site forman who couldnt be bothered to oversee the sub- contrctors was the worst. The company was in charge of the foundation, construction, septic, well, roofing, siding and the mechanics. In other words the bones of the house. The sub contractors, with one exception, we're about as unprofessional as you can imagine. One thing to look at if you are considering this outfit is that they are NOT bonded or insured. That should be the big red flag! If only we had had Angie's list back then.

+ -1 moreThe project started going downhill right near the start, with employees showing up on the jobsite late and doing sub-par work. This low quality work continued for weeks, to the point where I refused to continue paying them. They then tried to file a mechanics lien against the property, which my attorney got released. They then sued me--I countersued--and the case proceeded through unsuccessful court-ordered mediation, to pre-trial conferences, to an offer to settle by Dale Amundson and Great American Homes. Since I have put this bad experience behind me, there have been additional bad things that have turned up regarding the construction of this home.
Description of Work: This company built my home in 1996. The experience was bad and this company failed on all levels with shoddy workmanship that was not up to industry standards. Our relationship ended in a lawsuit which did not go to trial due to their offer to settle prior to trial. Our case was built on a professional report by an experienced contractor who did a complete inspection of our home. I would not recommend Dale Amundson and his company for any home building or improvement projects.
