Kevin did a great job on the bed. He knew what needed to be done and it looks great. His was the only quote I got so have nothing to compare it to.

Very happy with their service. I typically shovel my driveway, but after 9+ inches of snow fell it was too much for me to handle. I didn't think I would be able to find anyone to clear my driveway on such short notice, especially being such a high demand day. Grass Roots LLC returned my call promptly and had my driveway plowed out within a few hours. He did an excellent job, was very friendly, and charged a very reasonable rate. I will definitely use their service again!

Kevin was wonderful. He came out quickly and provided an estimate and some suggestions. He was very knowledgeable. We were able to schedule the services during the winter and didn't have to wait until spring. He did an awesome job removing all the trees and bushes and cleaning up the debris. I was amazed how quickly he had the job done. We have several other projects for the yard and wouldn't think of calling anyone else.

We needed Kevin's service three times since we signed on with him. Each time he was prompt, efficient, and fast. My husband found him to be professional, courteous and friendly. Although we understood he would do our property sometime after 8 or 9 each morning, after the last snowfall we awoke at 6 a.m. to find our driveway already done.We would recommend Kevin and Grass Roots LLC highly.
Description of Work: My husband and I were looking for snow removal from our driveway mid- season in February. Although I contacted approximately 8 snow removal services, the majority responded they could no longer add another client. Kevin Kabara called us, came to the house and gave us an estimate for his services. Stating that he already had a number of clients he asked us to understand we would added to the schedule he already had in place.

I called Grass Roots for a quote to remove shrubs and Kevin arrived promptly for the estimate. I was pleased with the quote and made arrangements for Grass Roots to do the work. Kevin arrived the following morning and proceeded to remove the shrubs. Please note that the two clumps of Junipers were very large (approx. 25' L x 10' W.) and required a lot of work to remove. After Kevin removed the shrubs and ground the stumps he did a great job of cleaning up the area. I am very pleased with Grass Roots and would use them in the future.

It went well. Just be very specific in the work you expect to be done and it will be priced and completed with no problem. For example, I asked for the flower beds to be cleaned up and re-mulched. I assumed this meant weeding and shrub maintenance which it did not, had I asked for weeding and shrub clean-up it would have been done also.

He shows up when he's supposed to, does what he's supposed to do, and cleans up after himself when he's done (the only reason I rated the quality a B is because the cuts aren't that clean - probably nothing a little blade sharpening wouldn't fix). A good job for a good price!

Quick, professional, appropriately priced.... $35 per cut for my 1/3 acre yard which includes weed wacking/edging. Very responsive, I've had a couple minor yard projects that Kevin is quick to help with and very fairly priced, including yearly mulching, building small flower beds, etc.

The guy came out and did some yard clean ups for us. He cleaned out some bushes and did a very good job. He's very clean and neat at his work. He's got a very good work ethic and his yard work is excellent. He does not do things in high and one really does not have to go after him to clean up as he does a very good job.

Great - would definitely recommend.
Description of Work: Summer 2008 Kevin took over my regular lawn mowing - he doesn't come every week, he makes the judgment as needed depending on weather and grass growth - the cost is always the same $35 per mowing and very reasonable based on other quotes I rec'd. I really like his flexibility and that he's not locked into a weekly schedule, as it makes for a much healthier lawn, and I'm not over charged for unnecessary work. I also contracted him for fall cleanup and he did a great job and hauled away all yard waste - I never even knew he was here except for the immaculate yard. He does such a great job that I asked about contracting him for snow removal of my long driveway and front sidewalk for the winter. And again, the service was terrific - he was at my house within 12 hours after every snowfall resulting in more than 3" of snow.

Date of work done was postponed from original start date due to rain but Kevin called to update us on new work dates. Very efficient. Was done in one day. Flower beds were completely weeded, re-mulched. Transplant of Hosta and installation of four new perennials. Saved us weeks of doing it ourselves.

For the back yard, we gave a rough idea of the layout we wanted. We assumed the landscaper would either draw out the actual plan or at least use a garden hose to show us the layout before going ahead and laying sod. He did not. The backyard sod was laid without adding soil to the area to raise it to the level of the drive. So there's a drop. In the front it seems like he laid sod designed for sun in an area of obvious shade. And finally, we assumed that since it was his idea to put a patio between the drive and the front walk, that he would address the different levels of the drive and the walk. We were stunned when he laid the patio on a noticeable incline and even more stunned that he didn't think it would be a problem in terms of aesthetics. We had to pay the labor costs for the pavers to be re-laid so the patio would be level. When we told the landscaper that 2 pavers were loose, he only fixed one. The landscaper just didn't seem welcoming of our input after the initial visit.
Description of Work: Install pavers between house and drive for garbage carts. Install pavers as sitting area between front walk and drive. Rototill and sod entire front yard. Reshape plastic edging/rototill and sod backyard. Spread mulch in non-grass areas of front/side/back yard.

Response from Grass Roots LLC
I pride myself with the work that I do and am willing to make changes or adjustments in order to met all the clients needs. With this project I felt I met all the requirements and fulfilled the changes requested. The customer was informed to water the sod when it was installed and again when I returned to make corrections to the property. I have not heard of or purchased sod that is specific to sun/shade. I have completed many other projects with satisfied customers from Angie's List and have received an award from the website. My goal is to find what the customer's needs are to improve their landscape and install or maintain those needs in a professional, timely and profitable manner.

Kevin is simply the best at what he does. His costs are reasonable and he does his own work, which I think makes for a better, more honest company. After having problems trying to get an estimate back from another company, I called Grass Roots in June and Kevin showed up soon after. He made great suggestions at our initial meeting, when all I knew is I wanted more color in my yard with some low maintenance perennials. He was up front about his schedule, telling me he could get to me in early August. This was reasonable considering that the landscaping season had been in full swing for a while. When Kevin did the initial cleanup of the yard in August, I was surprised how much was already done by my lunch hour. He answered all my questions about caring for the new sod he had planted. Kevin did the plantings of perennials in late September, again giving me advice for caring for the new plants. The yard looks great now, and I'm sure when the blooms come in Spring I'll have that curb appeal.
Description of Work: Kevin cleaned up my yard in August, removing weeds, cutting back both a Hosta bed and Fern bed on the side of the house, and removing dying wooden barrel potted plants in the back. He installed mulch to all planting beds with the idea of planting some perennials in the fall to add overall color to the yard. He removed some brick pavers which were functioning as a poor patio space and installed sod to expand my small yard in the back. He came back in late September to do the plantings, installing nearly wild roses by the front walk and various smaller perennials under the front bay window. In the back he installed a row of Hydrangea plants in a bed next to the new sod, along with some low level plants to color up the bed adjacent to the central air unit. In the corner next to the central air unit he installed a burning bush.

Kevin did a great job. I received five estimates for this landscaping job, and his bid was very reasonable. He came out right away, and we scheduled a day for the work to start. He was open to changing the original plan, as we had some extra money to spend and wanted to do some more plants and bushes than we originally thought. The work, from start to finish, took 3 days. I'm a "neat freak" and Kevin took the time to clean up after each day he worked! Kevin's a truly hard worker who did a great job with our landscaping. We are the talk of the neighborhood and everyone who passes by. I hope others look at our yard and want to improve their own. If they do, I will recommend Kevin; he was the most personable and professional landscaper I met. He's also the one who does all the work, he doesn't use anyone else. But don't let that scare you off, as he's extremely efficient and accommodating. For the quality of his work, the price is amazing. I wouldn't choose anyone else!
Description of Work: Our yard is a small city lot in Bay View. Kevin came out and removed both the front and back yards, including existing bushes that were no longer needed. The front yard was redone with a small retaining wall, mulch, a Japanese maple, arbor vitaes, Japanese barberry bushes, flox and pachysandra ground cover, hydrangeas, hostas, perennial grasses, mixed perennials and there's a hydrangea vine on the side of the porch. The foundation of the house was built up with a tan crushed stone. The back yard has a lilac bush, apple tree, cherry tree, hydrangeas, russian sage, mixed perennials and climbing clematis vines on the fence. The beds were mulched and feature a brick edging.

Kevin was very responsive to my call for a quote and I felt that it was quite reasonable. He performed all the landscaping himself (no subcontractors), was timely and an extremely hard worker. He assisted me in developing an excellent plan to create a low maintenance mulched bed, at the back of my property. Kevin was extremely neat and left the property in tip-top shape.
