I had Ganser measure and do bids for a skylight replacement, 4 casement windows, and a patio door. At the initial visit, I made it clear that the priority was to replace the skylight and the windows upstairs. I also requested a quote on a fixed skylight and a solar venting skylight. The salesman made a note of this and we set up an appointment for me to come to the showroom. I came in the showroom and the first thing I was shown was how easy it would be to clean double hung windows. I was there for casement windows. He showed me all the features of the double hung windows and never made to the casement windows. He also spent time on the patio door which again wasn't the priority. I had to ask about the skylight which he kind of blew off. We went into their meeting room to see the bids. The cost started at about $16,000 but if I signed today I could get $5,000 off. The cost of the upstairs windows were rolled together with the cost of the skylight. I asked him to separate the costs of the line so I could see the cost of the windows versus the skylight. He thought I wanted the windows itemized. He said that wasn't possible. I thought that was really telling because they were advertising buy 1 get 1 free windows. Once he understood, he gave me the prices. I had gotten a bid from Waunakee Remodeling prior to this meeting and brought their numbers with me. Waunakee Remodeling quoted me a skylight price that was almost half of what Ganser gave me. I also told him what their window pricing was. After that, his "fair" pricing started dropping like a rock. As we talked, I finally figured out that he was only quoting full replacement windows and not inserts. I opened up the brochure and pointed out that it said both inserts and full replacements were available. He told me that he didn't sell inserts but some other salesmen did. I apparently didn't have input into what I was buying. I wasn't fully sold on either but would have liked to have the option. He was also very resistant to giving me pricing on white windows. I had originally asked for color bond and he told me that white would only be a nominal saving. The savings wasn't nominal. He hadn't done a price on the solar venting skylight like I had asked. I told him what Waunakee Remodeling had given me for pricing and said he could absolutely not get that low without taking a loss. He gave me his "breakeven" price. There is a tax credit for solar skylights and Velux has posted the average savings on their website. Ironically, his breakeven price was close to the average price on the Velux website. We were talking about breaking up the bid into the upstairs project and downstairs project, one of his argument for keeping these together was that I could get a better price because they wouldn't need to bring out 2 dumpsters. I live in condos and I have never seen any window company bring a dumpster with them. The condo units don't have that many windows. I left feeling like if I signed with Ganser, I would have no idea what I was getting. There seems to be substantial padding in their pricing. I would strongly recommend getting a price from Waunakee Remodeling if you want to buy from Ganser. It gives you great negotiating leverage. I really was very interested in buying Marvin windows and probably would have spent the extra money. Ultimately, if I do buy them it won't be from Ganser.

We were supremely impressed with them. They had excellent customer service. They were pretty professional, they got the job done pretty quickly, they were on time, they were clean, and they offered a really good warranty. We've got a 20-year warranty on our shingles. They were more pricey but you get what you pay for. They were probably the most expensive people we talked to. We have used them numerous times.

We went with Ganser because I was very impressed with the Infinity line of windows. After looking at other products we decided early on that this is what we wanted, and Ganser Company is the exclusive installer in this area. Plus they have a good reputation for quality work and that's what we wanted. If we wanted cheap, pedestrian windows and sloppy workmanship we could have gotten the cost down to 25-50% of what we paid. OK, others might not have slopy workmanship but you can't get these windows at Menards or Home Depot. Or even Lowes! LOL. So we went to the showroom a few years back when we were just in the thought process. We knew we would have to save a boatload of money to afford these, so we saved and kept plastic-ing over the original, terrible windows in our 20 yr old (at this writing) Wausau home. Marc Ganser came in after that initial visit a few years back and gave us an estimate, so we'd know roughly what we were looking at. It gave us a lot to think about and research to see if anything out there could sway us. After really looking at info that's out there and having 3 other products I felt might compare to Infinity by Marvin, we resigned ourselves to not really the and quot;factand quot; but to our belief that Infinity was the best out there. Marc was a very capable and thoughtful estimator and gave us a few ideas we really liked. He had to come in again because that original estimate was so old. We both had a few new ideas and because of rising material (window) and labor costs, the new estimate was quite a bit higher than the original. They were having a sale last fall and that did help a bit. But the costs were much higher than we had anticipated, which is why I really can only give a and quot;Cand quot; mark on the price ratings. But I am naturally cheap (forget thrifty or frugal, folks, I am tight as bark on a tree, LOL) but I knew we really wanted the best we could get and still believe you get what you pay for. Skip the steak, get a $1.00 burger at McD's, and use the savings to buy the best window you can afford. Words to live by, as long as your cholesterol level can stand it. OK enough about that, back to the windows. The job was delayed about 2 months due to the unusually harsh winter we've had.Originally thought to happen before Christmas, happened more like mid-February when we had a slight let-up. The crew was set to arrive at 8am, they were there nice and early, the biggest window was out by 8:01am, I like that. (were there about 730am). I had taken the day off so I could watch the proceedings. I turned the thermostat down to about 50, a few times I could even see my breath inside the house, but the guys just kept after it and had what was supposed to be a 3 day job done in less than 2. Crew was very conscientious about keeping the house clean inside and out. It even snowed a little both days (about an inch each day) and did a great job of keeping their own runners down on the floors where ever they needed to work and keeping packing litter thrown in the dumpster. I can get a bit stir crazy just hanging out and watching and the crew had no problem with me wanting to at least drag the old windows, etc to the dumpster (which they provided). I appreciated that they didn't try to tell me and quot;you can't do thatand quot; when I really needed something to do. The crew they assigned to my job also had a few other guys come to our house. On the first day the patio door wouldn't fit on the truck, another foreman called my foreman to see if he needed help, and he said he could bring the patio door down, so he did that and actually went ahead and put it in, which is I'm sure why the job got done so much faster. Great teamwork, I love seeing this stuff, and quot;strike when the iron is hotand quot; is good thinking when the weather has been so off and on. The foreman on my team was Trooper, I think the other one was Mark, I don't remember the names of the other workers, there was so much going on and I'm sorry I can't name them all, but they were all really good workers, not taking breaks every time you turn around, not talking on phones (or if they were it seemed to be business, but at any rate some people seem to have phones constantly pasted to their ears and it's a distraction); these guys seemed to be in to what they were doing almost all the time and were working well by themselves if they had to or as a team if they needed to. JUST what I had expected, just what I would expect if I owned the place. I also appreciated that they gave thoughtful answers to the few questions I had and a few times just pointed out stuff they thought I should know. I think they realized this was a big deal to me, and sometimes you just feel like you need to see the window being cut out that we had been looking through for 20 years. So we feel we got a great product and great service by quality people. You do have to pay a pretty hefty sum for that these days, but you do get what you pay for.

We found it necessary to make many repeat calls to Ganser to get them to show up for inspections, leak tests, and finally for an estimate for repairs. They repeatedly specified a date or range of dates when they would show up to perform these tasks, but initially failed to show up. It took repeated calls to get them to show up. In the end, they told us their leak warranty does not apply in winter. We asked for an estimate for a repair that would likely (though they would not guarantee it) stop the leaks in the winter and their proposal was 40% higher than a bid we obtained from another highly recommended roofer. On top of this, the other contractor promised a more complete job than Ganser was promising, the same materials (even more in quantity) as Ganser proposed, and would guarantee no leaks in winter. The other roofer was recommended by Sweeney Construction and has been in business for and gt; 40 years so it is not a fly-by-night operation. Given our new roof cost of $70,000, it was very disappointing to get such poor service and finally an apparently inflated proposal to fix their own roof job.
Description of Work: Ganser Company installed a all new roof on a large house July of 2010. An attempt to get them to honor their warranty followed in the summer of 2013 after numerous leaks were observed during the winter of 2012-2013.

I did some research through Consumer Reports and on the internet before I contacted any vendors, and had already fallen in love with the idea of the Infinity Windows. Almost no maintenance required and a lifetime warranty as well as being able to wash the outside of the windows from the inside were big sellers for me. Ganser is the only local company that can sell the Infinity windows due to exclusive arrangements with Marvin Windows. I did have several other companies with other types of windows give me quotes, but even though the Infinity windows were a bit pricier than some others, I chose to get them. The sales person was very helpful and always available for questions. One thing that was a bit hard to swallow is that they wont give you a window by window breakdown of the price since they charge labor in full or half day increments. The work got done when it was estimated they would be able to do it - late Oct. The installation crew did a really good job. Not everything went as smoothly as possible, but they kept at it until it was done right. For instance, the door replacement required cutting the framing at the top so that the door would clear the carpet (something the old door didn't do). The door didn't want to close easily, and I kept saying it wasn't acceptable, so they kept working until it was right! The work is just beautiful and the detail is great! The new windows/frames ended up a little smaller than the old windows so the paint lines both above and below the window were extensive. There had also been some plaster breakage that needed to be patched. Although the contract didn't cover painting, they sent in a painter the day after the installation to take care of it for me. Above and beyond service! They are also going to provide extra window stoppers that we forgot to special order, at no extra charge. Job came in at estimate! I've never heard of that happening on a remodeling job before. The cynic in me suspects the estimate may have been a bit on the high side, but the quality of the work was worth it. I've had other contractors work on the house in the past, and this was the best experience I've ever had. No surprises, quality work, professional attitudes and character.

We got estimates from three companies. We went with Ganser, even though they were a bit more expensive, because of the quality of the window product and the color available that matched our existing woodwork. Our contact was Kelly, a nice guy. We called the company frequently to pin down a date, the crew arrived on that date and replaced all of the windows. The crew leader was Trooper and he was simply excellent. The next day, they began installing the trim and when they were halfway through it was clear that the trim had been stained the wrong color. Kelly came over and without any hassle agreed to replace it. We had to rehang all our window coverings because we didn't know when they would be back. We called the next afternoon to see what the plan was and he said they'd be over the next day. Had we known that, we would have left the window coverings down. They replaced all the trim at their expense and it was beautiful. Clean up was excellent. They came back and replaced a faulty lock on the deck door. Our only problem was communication. We never knew what was going on unless we called them. They didn't seem to communicate with each other or with us.. Jim told Kelly he had arranged a start date with us even though he had never talked to us. We have asked repeatedly that our neighbors get the promised gift card for referring us. Still don't know if they have it. The important thing is we are very, very happy with our new windows, but there was a bit of stress along the way! We have hired them now for a small remodeling job. Hopefully the communication will be better.

This gentleman came from Dade County, Building concepts is what he's called. The gentleman that came he cancelled, first he cancelled but he explained that his family was sick, so that was fine. He came out, he was extremely friendly, very friendly. He seemed genuinely interested in the project. However we didn't get a bid, we didn't get a bid, didn't get a bid. And he told me it was back in the day. So then I finally recontacted him and said you know are you just not interested in the project? Then he apologized and said he was sorry he didn't give us the bid but then he gave the bid which was, when he was here he kind of gave a ball park of what he thought it would be but when we actually got the bid it was way more than what he said. The problem was he didn't listen. He bid out for things that we never asked him to do. We just wanted a bid on the bath. He said he might throw up a wall with studs and drywall on it in one area, but nothing finished. He went and quoted it as a whole finished room so that was inaccurate. That kind of threw us off as where we are at because this was stuff we didn't even ask for. When we tried to narrow out the pieces that we actually wanted his bid was still much higher than the other three bids we did get.

From the initial sales pitch to the final installation everything went very smooth and the final product looks great. The initial meeting I had with Kelly was very low key and at no time did he try to pressure me in to a sale which I was highly appreciative of. The overall process took a few months, but this was primarily due to the fact that the windows had to first be manufactured. The installation itself took only a few hours. The installers did a great job and kept the site very clean. Overall the windows look great. I've got the look of wood without the hassles of wood which is exactly what I was looking for. While the cost was a bit more than I initially anticipated, I am extremely satisfied with the finished product and wouldn't hesitate recommending this company to others.

I tried to explain to Amanda that my husband and I have discussed how we want this project to go, and that he and I have made the decision that I will handle the bid collection and manage the project as it unfolds. This makes sense for us because he works, and I stay home with our daughter. Explaining this made no difference to Amanda, and she pretty much insisted that my husband would have to be present at some appointment in order to get an estimate. Frankly, I find that insistence offensive. It implies that my husband and I cannot communicate. It might even imply that wives should not be trusted to handle these interactions. It's just an estimate, people! I find myself very curious about how this would have unfolded if my husband had called instead. Would she have insisted that I be present if he had requested the appointment? In the end, I told her we were not interested then in having them bid on the job. It would be a waste of time for everyone. Because in the end, we wouldn't choose to work with a firm that apparently feels it's appropriate for them to dictate the terms of how my husband and I handle projects for our house.
Description of Work: We need to have our roof replaced, and I called Ganser to come out and provide an estimate. Apparently, they do not provide estimates unless both partners can be present for the appointment. Their representative, Amanda, said she could schedule an appointment for me to meet with someone, but that the person providing the estimate would also need to meet with my husband at another time as well.

We felt the whole experience was so positive and we would use the Ganser Company again, Our primary contact was Marc Ganser.. He was professional and thorough in the estimate, all costs were known and he dealt w/ insurance company. They checked in 2 weeks prior to make sure we were ready to go as planned. Then had updated us as the start date moved 2 days later (their previous roof job had found unknown plywood damage and needed to replaced on a high pitched roof) The crew that did the demolition of our roof , soffits and siding was conscientious and responsible. We requested the aluminum to be put in garage, as family member wanted to recycle it for the materials. If we were undecided or fussy custromers, they supported our concerns with information and a computer generated visual to help us through the process. It was piled in a general neat manor. We had a subcontractor add electrical outlets to soffits and they coordinated the timing well. The lighting fixtures we picked were fussy, they did a great! job with the install. The leader of construction team was consistant and introduced self, as necessary, and answer ?'s or troubleshoot issues like weather.. There was a variety of choices in products, in different cost categories. The workmanship turned out visually constructually appealing. They were knowledgeable with how soffits under the front porch look best. They completed all the finishing touches before leaving the work site, (gutters, lighting, molding, calking, scrap metal clean up and lastly, the dumpster picked up promptly). We did spend more for the soffits (now white, were yellow), slate lighting fixtures and the like. We are thrilled with the result. The color was as seen in office and we are confident the resale value was enhanced with their expertise and workmanship on our house. Thank You Ganser Company! G and P (Madison's westside).
Description of Work: The house had hail damage. The roof, soffits and siding were removed and replaced. (We added white soffits to the job as the color was a yellow) The insurance estimate had some omissions that The Ganser Company negotiated an increase in the payout of our claim on our behalf. (This was handled by Marc Ganser for the job.).

Thorough consumer education, very good communication, always friendly, prompt and professional. Everything happened as they said it would. Installation was completed a week ahead of the original estimated date. While completing a walk-through following installation, they listened to the few questions/concerns I had and provided me with the additional information I needed; immediately attended to a cosmetic concern I had with one of the windows to my satisfaction. They also came back and installed quarter-round moulding along the base of the patio door to conceal a gap that was apparent between the new door frame and the flooring. Windows and patio door look great! I give quality an and quot;Aand quot; based on appearance, function and performance thus far. Given they've only been installed for 6 weeks and it's been a frigid winter, I haven't had much opportunity to open the windows. Patio door functions well - had some trouble with locking it at first, but door settled in and is locking just fine now. I was told during walk-through that I could call them back in and they'd adjust it for me if I start having trouble with it again. I have high hopes the quality will remain worthy of an and quot;Aand quot;

We first had a very thorough estimate done. The estimate was presented along with a .ppt about Ganser's service and work. For the estimate it was unclear whether we'd need to replace the boards. On the first day, it turned out we did need to replace the boards -- this was the only point during the entire roofing that I was unsure what was happening, as I assumed they would have told me. Then in 2 1/2 days they tore the old roof off, replaced the boards and put up new shingles. They even worked on Saturday. At one point, I needed to get my car out of the garage and they moved their dumpster so that I could do so. Over the next few days, different guys came to do the flashings and gutters. Overall it was a very good experience.
Description of Work: We had our roof redone. They removed 3-4 layers of shingles, put down new boards, put up new shingles, flashings and gutters.

Working with Ganser was good. They always arrived when they said they would, answered questions and concerns. When an unexpected electrical issue arose, they worked to find the problem and were willing to accept the added cost as their responsibility if it became clear they needed to do so. The work areas were cleaned up each day and the workmen were courteous.
Description of Work: New gutters, downspots, leaf guard and heating for gutters, new door, repair and reframe garage doors.

Great experience overall including great communication with Matt through out the project. I made several small changes to the project and Matt put up with my pickiness... The crew also did a great job of cleaning up after the project was done. I'm up front with contractors in terms of what I expect and that I want it done right/to look professional and Ganser Company followed through. Matt even showed up at the end and walked the roof with me to make sure I was happy with the results.
Description of Work: Removed old roof and installed new underlayment/roof/ventilation.
