Within 2 years the siding was warped in many places and the siding nails were poping out in many many places. The stain was not stained properly and the bare wood show through in 25% of the siding. We complained from the start but Ganser stalled until the 5 year warranty expired. I found them to do poor work and not stand behind their work. This is the worst contractor I have ever delt with and I have had 5 homes built over the years, There is much more to this story. If you want the complete detains email me. robertziino@aol.com

I now have a roof that makes drivers slow down, and pedestrians turn their heads. Ganser was the most expensive company I got a bid from (hence the and quot;Goodand quot; price rating), HOWEVER, the responsiveness, experience, workmanship, thoroughness, and quality of the products offered and the guarantee behind it made it WORTH the price. There is no and quot;Valueand quot; button to give an and quot;Aand quot; for. Bidding History: I had been getting bids (or at least trying to) from five or six different companies/contractors before finding Ganser. Until Ganser, I was VERY disappointed in the field of bidders. Some just didn't return my calls or email until weeks later. I changed my choice of shingle, and more weeks would fly by before acknowledgement and a new price. Some just gave me a flat price like and quot;$14,500.00and quot; but with zero breakdown in pricing: no materials cost, no labor cost, no flashing, no waste disposal, what they would do and wouldn't do, and no discussion of warranty, just one flat price. This is in 2011, a supposedly bleak and hungry time for everyone in the building industry, yet that didn't spur anyone to behave like someone that deserved my business until Ganser. Materials: This frustration made me start from the materials side, and I wanted a stand-out architectural shingle. That left two companies, GAF/Elk, and Certainteed. Now, my parent's house had a Certainteed roof with and quot;30 yearand quot; shingles that crumbled apart and failed after only 12 years, and the and quot;warrantyand quot; was worth ten cents on the dollar. A $40,000 roof and my widowed mother got $4,000 towards a new one... but only if it was with Certainteed. Well, Certainteed can go to hades in a leaky boat for that, which left me with a company I had been directed towards by multiple people: GAF/Elk. I went to GAF's website, and found they are a USA company, and have a factory certification program. Two companies were interesting. The first came out, made a bid, but told me that I could only use up-spray foam insulation if I installed a new roof deck, and a $5,000.00 under-deck ventilation $y$tem and cu$tom-made metal drip edge. Grrrrr. The other company that caught my eye as having and quot;Master Eliteand quot; certification was Ganser Co. I contacted them via their website, and within a day had someone contact me. I was put in touch with Tony M. with Ganser, and we started the process with a visit and measurements. Tony checked with his GAF representative, and whaddyaknow, GAF did allow warranty for up-spray foam. No need for a new deck or deck ventilation. We chose the shingle and were excited to see a faux-copper (Copper Penny) option for the flashing and valleys. There was a drip edge color (Cornsilk) that matched our LeafGuard gutters perfectly. Within a very short time, we had a bid, but unlike all the other frustrating and quot;roofersand quot; I had tried to deal with, Ganser's bid discussed, I'm not kidding, every theoretical square inch of the roof, from the drip edge, gutter care, flashing, valleys, covering the ENTIRE roof deck in ice+water shield instead of just the bottom 3' or 6', the wooden facia on our dormers, bathroom vents, removing the old antenna, chimney flashing, dumpster and clean up. The bids I had been getting all summer were for between $12,000 and $22,000. Ganser was a few thousand more than this, but offered such superior communication, advice, and the and quot;Weather Stopper Golden Pledgeand quot; warranty and a factory inspection after the roof is done. Ganser has been around Madison for decades and decades, they weren't about to disappear on me and leave me wet and un-warranted. GAF/Elk has a superlative reputation with no lawsuits like Certainteed. I am taking a gamble, a $10,000 gamble, that the next homeowner will value the quality of the workmanship and the warranty as much as I do. I took the days off that they were working on the house, to answer questions, help, and watch. The crew arrived on time, the dumpster showed up on time, and shovels were flying within a few hours. Surprise!, there were three layers of shingles, not two. This increased the bid by a perfectly reasonable amount. Tony and another supervisor stopped by, and the crew leader (Armando) had things so well in hand they stayed only a few minutes. This is mid-December, mind you, with below-freezing temperatures, but the crew stayed until near-dark. Day 2, and the shingles and all the other supplies were delivered. I'll be honest, I don't recall the specific order of the next two days, I believe the total job was 4 days of full-crew, and a morning with just two people. Attention to workmanship: Flashing was bent and and quot;cut inand quot; to the brick with care and attention, then caulked with color-matching 25-year silicone, not just caulked up flat to the brickwork. The roof deck (1926 cedar 1x10's) was meticulously flattened (all prior nails pounded in), decking holes were patched, the ice/water dam was generously overlapped, any holes in the roof were covered overnight despite no call for precipitation, damaged step-flashing was replaced, the yard was cleaned every night, magnets swept up loose nails, and they were patient while I fabricated replacement facia boards. Exposed screw heads were daubed with 25-year silicone. When it came to the flashing, without my direction, they artfully cut some of the flashing to contour around some fancy brickwork (proud soldier-course of bricks) that blends right in with the 1926 craftsmanship of the house. I was very, very happy with this. I will try to add pictures of this, as it warmed my normally cold, black heart to no end. Effort: The crew came at 7:30am to 8am, and stayed on the roof until sunset, then cleaned the yard every night until full dark. They all worked very, very hard. I had no indication there was anyone on the team that was not giving 100%. Okay, I was pretty lazy, but I can't scurry over roofs like they can. I reiterate: this was mid-December. Errors: The dumpster company flaked a 4x1and quot;chip of concrete off the sidewalk at dropoff, but this is NOT Ganser's fault, and is not noticeable now. I pointed out one 1x2 trim-board that was not replaced before being eagerly drip-edged and shingled, and it was replaced and re-drip edged, and re-shingled immediately. That's the ONLY and quot;correctionand quot; I had to point out the ENTIRE job, a single, 4 foot long, tiny trim piece that doesn't affect the water shed of the house, a piece no one but my insane attention to detail would ever notice. If you haven't gathered by now, I am a pain in the a*** to contractors and crews, and I love Ganser Co. My Error: totally my fault, and not Ganser's in any way. I thought the crew had to remove the LeafGuard gutters before working, so before Tony arrived, I mistakenly told the crew we were removing the gutters. I wasted a two-plus hours of their time, and when Tony told me we didn't have to remove them, I expressed my apologies, the gutters were carefully laid out of harm's way, and reinstalled at the end of the project with zero problems. In fact, Armando came the morning of day 5 with help and re-installed the gutters in a snow storm. I have to point this out separately. We have a 12-square roof (or is it 20? It's a 2000sq.ft home) with a super-steep entryway roof and three dormers. Two palates (four feet high) of shingles were dropped off. Leftover shingles: one pack. Not 10 packs. They didn't run short, but only had one extra pack of shingles at the end. I would normally attribute it to luck if I hadn't seen the level of professionalism and experience Ganser Co. showed. Rain/leaks: So far, so good. We had some rain with driving wind, and zero problems in the two months before the spray foam sealed everything up for eternity. Advice on the value: If you're going to be in your home for less than 10 years, don't care about the quality or warranty of the shingle, and don't care about the next owners opinion on the roof, I guess you can take a risk, cross your fingers, and go with a lower bid. Odds are, that roofer will not be in business by the time problems roll around. Odds are, you'll get nickle-and-dimed to death with add-ons and change-orders until you either have to sacrifice protection, or you're up near Ganser's bid anyways. Me? I have the sexiest roof in New Glarus, WI, thank you very much. I have my GAF warranty (with up-spray foam) in hand. The price is the highest I got bids for, but the Value, to me, is absolutely worth it. If you plan on staying in your home for more than 10 years, absolutely, hands down, go with Ganser Company.
Description of Work: Remove 3 layers of shingles, apply ice and water shield over entire roof deck, apply new drip edge, new step flashing where needed, new flashing, new valleys, apply new shingles, clean up yard.

SUMMARY Finished job is what I ordered. Workers were very polite and cleaned up after themselves. There were some inor quality control items. It's just that the whole project took sooooooooo long -- 6 months. DETAIL July 2011, Contractor rep came to measure and prepare estimate. August 10, placed order, should be ready to install in 4 weeks. August 15, without an appointment, a different rep called to come and measure. October 25, technicians installed the skylights, and the next day another technician came by to seal, caulk and paint the interior. October 27, on-site visit from contractor rep. We discussed November 9 as likely date to take care of the following punch list items: a. The installer's ladder bent rain diverters on both sides of the house. b. Part of a nail was left protruding into the bedroom and was subsequently painted over. c. Incorrect cranks to open the skylights November 4, asked rep about November 9 plans and was told, and quot;...your punch list items are in production. We will let you know as soon as we can get our guy back out there for you.and quot; December 5, asked rep for update and was told and quot;...I will swing by on Thursday (12/8) to drop your handles off and take care of the rain diverters.and quot; No mention of fixing the nail. December 8, rep stopped by and worked at straightening the rain diverters. End result was 80% better. He had only one of the two cranks and will arrange for a the refinisher to fix the nail. January 2, Refinisher called to see if he could stop by the next day. Work done on January 3. Now just missing the one crank. January 10, sales rep dropped off the remaining handle on our front porch. I ended up installing both of the handles myself. Sorry, 6 months is way too long for a routine skylight replacement.
Description of Work: Install two replacement skylights in second floor bedroom. All interior work was performed from the floor, i.e. no ladders or scaffolding needed inside.

The quality of their work was good, but their customer service was bad. They placed a huge dumpster in the middle of the driveway, without informing me. They also didn't advice when was the job scheduled for and what time they were expected. They never seemed professional on the telephone and left behind open nails on the driveway. I called them to inform about the nails and when I questioned them, they became offensive. They also had a lot of problems with the insurance company and my insurance company advised that, they have faced a lot of problems with Ganser Company, with respect to their expensive rates. I will not use their services in future.

They did the work during a big nasty snowstorm. I thought they did very good work at a reasonable price. We had priced the work out. I was a little irritated that it took a while for them to get the job done. We are waiting on them to get another job right now. They also do roofing and siding so they are busy with hail damage now. Last year they were busy with window replacements because of the energy credit so our soffits and gutters weren't high priority for them. We are waiting to get pillars replaced in the front of our house that the woodpeckers like to tear up. We are getting something that the woodpeckers won't like to replace them. We signed the contract a month ago and they had to order parts. I talked to the salesman yesterday and it said it would probably be July before they are able to start the work. I am a little irritated but for the price and quality of work, they are very good. It takes them a little while to get back to me. They are also going to be putting a front railing on.

I worked with Tony Mollner for months selecting the color and grade of siding. Tony even searched out similar homes with the siding color that I chose to help me visualize what the house would look like. He was very patient and helpful with dealing with the insurance company. The job started as scheduled and I must say they worked through some unpleasant weather. The two installers, Trooper and Dave, were very professional and communicated with me during the entire process. Tony kept in touch during the job. You could tell he took pride in his work. I am satisfied with the whole look.

Over many years they have replaced parts of the roof. We didn't use them for the latest repairs because they were a little more expensive. They were responsive and showed up on time for the estimate. They are professional and they are a good company. We wouldn't use them again though because a long time ago they gave us some bad shake. That may partly be because they are not allowed to use old growth timber any more, which is good of course. They seemed like they spaced the shakes further than they had in the past.

The sales person was very good. However, int the process of roofing the house, they broke a skylight. I received a call in the afternoon; the Ganser rep. said since I wasn't home they would just come back tomorrow to clean up! I had shattered glass all over the living space and kitchen. I said I would come home from work and let the crew into the house. I went home and helped clean it up. We have wood floors and the floor was ruined. We had to redo the floor which Gansar refused to pay for. They also said they could not understand why I was so upset because they were going to replace the window. Very unprofessional _ I WOULD NEVER USE THIS COMPANY!

We began our project by calling Ganser the end of August. We made an appointment with Mike Kand auml;hl, the sales contractor, who was personable and knowledgeable. He arrived at the appointed hour, was very willing to answer any and all of our questions. He made several valuable suggestions which we appreciated. He made two or three return trips to help with our decision-making and to finalize our contract with Ganser. Since the windows we chose were custom-built, It took a while for them to arrive (we were told about six weeks). One problem that we ran into was the US Government's rebate program that expired the end of the year. Therefore, Ganser (and Marvin Windows) became extremely busy with orders which resulted in it taking much longer (a few weeks) to get our windows from the manufacturer. A second problem was the resignation of the construction supervisor about that same time, which seemed to bury our project and resulted in more time to get to our project. It took a few phone calls to get us back on track. Once we had a firm date, the crew arrived on time, were professional, kept the rooms clean and installed the windows to our satisfaction. They thoroughly cleaned up after themselves. The windows were exactly as ordered. The insulation for the attic was also performed as promised, the crew arriving on time. This crew was also professional, efficient, and kept the work site clean. Originally, we had also contracted with Ganser to repair damage done to the corner roof on our family room (caused by a tree falling). Before that job was started, hail damaged the rest of our roof. We choose to use another roofing company to replace the roof and also to repair any damage to the roof, including the tree damage. Ganser very gallantly and with no hassle agreed to let us out of that portion of our contract, which we deeply appreciated.
Description of Work: 1) Removed existing windows from living room, 3 bedrooms and small bathroom (eight windows in all). Installed and insulated Infinity windows by Marvin. Lead containment for all windows. 2) Blocked & vented 66' truss space, Added R-40 Nu-Wool insulation to the attic.

I used Ganser on recommendation because I had so many layers of roofing, and needed big company to replace roof. Upon completion of job, roof leaked after it was out of warranty, due to nails in roof for the braces. Also there were open spaces under the bottom of siding where walls met basement - hello, mice, which I never had before. The window trim was layered in opposite way that it should be, likely to cut costs for Ganser, but will make extra caulking necessary, and perhaps leak in the future. Dealing with the front office and service reps was very unsatisfactory. They left none of the extra pieces of siding so I could match anything in the future. Nails around the house continue to appear, though I suppose they may be so with any company. In total, very negative experience and I would look elsewhere for service. Also note, BE THERE when they are doing the work, ask questions, etc. I wasn't able to and regret it.

Dear Member, I would like to express my concern about the experience you had with our company in 2005. The company has a 5 year workmanship warranty that would allow us to come back and fix any problems you are having with your roof. I had a chance to look back in our system and I did not see any warranty work orders so I am not aware of any problems that you are experienceing. I would like to have a Service Technician come over and resolve any problems associated with your project. If you had trouble with our internal staff, for that I apologize as well. I would like to add that we do not cut corners and will not cut corners. If it was installed incorrectly, we would like to fix it. I thank you for bringing this to our attention and I hope you would allow us to make it right.

Simply horrible from beginning to end. Not only did they take 5 months to complete the project, which is a ridiculous amount of time for a door installation, but the quality of the work was extremely disappointing. They installed a bronze door instead of the white color we signed off on and they refused to fix it once it was installed. They mis-ordered our replacement siding 3 times so our house was left without siding on in the middle of winter for 3 months. The drywallers and painters got paint all over the entire first floor of our house that took us days to clean up. Additionally, they left shards of metal siding, pieces of old dirty insulation, and countless nails all over our yard, which created an extremely dangerous environment for our dog. When all was said and done, we were left with a door where the trim does not line up correctly, where the color is wrong, and where the flooring and floor boards around it are warped. To get all of this and spend $6000 just makes us sick, especially when they refused to offer any customer service through the whole process. We felt that the project manager was out to get us to sign a contract and then disappeared for the duration of the project. We would never recommend them to anyone and will never use them for any services their company offers ever again.

The Ganser workers completed the whole job in two days. They came early each day and stayed late the second (until it was dark). Everything was perfectly synchronized (from arrival of the dumpster to delivery of shingles and installation of the foam insulation). Clean-up was excellent too. The salesperson, Tony Mollner, was great. When we found that something needed to be corrected a few weeks later, he sent a worker within two days.

The work done by Ganser was done on time and done right. The crew cleaned up meticulously after the work was done.
Description of Work: Ganser Company employees removed the entire roof, including the plywood and replaced it with a new roof and soffits. The entire project should have taken about 2 weeks (we didn't have a large home - and that was their estimate), but instead ended up taking over 6 weeks. That was 6+ weeks with a large dumpster sitting in our driveway, not being able to use part of our garage, shingles/roofing material sitting around our yard and killing our grass. Their excuse to us was they had a lost one of their few crews - so every 3-4 days, a team would show up, work for a day or 2, then not come back for a week, we'd call and complain, and same thing over and over. We complained - A LOT. Their response was "Sorry, nothing we can do" but here is a $50 gift card for your troubles, we stand by our quality not our schedules, because that's what matters. In the end, even the quality was OK. The house looked nice, but come to find out they sealed over our dryer vent and never cut it out - so we thought our dryer was broke, nope, just the siding never cut out. They never did clean-up on the outside of the house so for a year after, we were still picking up nails stuck in the deck and all through our landscaping and afraid to walk outside. It was just an overall very poor experience, with poor customer service, from a supposedly reputable company in town. I would never use them again, or recommend them to anyone I know.
Description of Work: We had our roof/siding completely re-done after a major hail storm that went through town a few years ago. They were very prompt - up until the point the actual contract was signed and they started work. The entire project should have taken about 2 weeks (we didn't have a large home - and that was their estimate), but instead ended up taking over 6 weeks. They just replaced the seals instead of the entire roof. Saving me lots of money.
Description of Work: They came out and repaired my rubber roof.

We went with the traditional shingles and wanted a clean, flat look. The price estimate was higher ($1,500 higher) than the other three estimates we got, but we went with Ganser based on their good reputation. The roofers came in a team and in a single day did the complete roofing job. We were puzzled why we didn't get a "Ganser" sign in our yard before, during, or after the job--but now we know why. Once the entire job was finished, we had water leaking into one of the soffits from the corner of the roof and the roof itself was very irregular with shingles sticking up in various places. Called and had a repair person come out. He fixed some of the shingles and sealed the leak by the soffit. He said that the rest of the shingles would smooth out once summer came and the hot sun hit it--they never did. Called again toward the end of summer. Was told that it looked pretty good--I asked if they wanted to post a picture on their web site--they declined. Not a good experience.
Description of Work: Company did a complete tear off of previous roof and replaced all shingles and gutters. Roof isn't large--gently sloping on a raised ranch.

Our roof had a slow leak. They came and trimmed some shingles about 5 months ago. Then it started leaking again, so they came back. The guy, who could barely speak English, came and ripped off some of the shingles and then came and left without telling us where he was going or when he'd be back. Eventually he replaced the shingles with new ones that didn't quite match. He tried to explain what he had done, indicating that he thought it was fixed. Two days later, it started raining again. Instead of the old slow leak in the attic that was controllable by a few towels, we now have water gushing in requiring 2 buckets. We have been calling them but they only say that so-and-so will call us back, and that person never does. They also keep saying that they don't guarantee repairs, but in this case they actually made it 10x worse. We continue to call them but they continue to give us the run-around. We are not impressed at all.
Description of Work: They attempted to fix our leaking roof but actually made it worse.

The salesman/estimator was straightforward and not high pressure. His estimate was accurate. The work was performed on time. The crew was courteous, thorough, and tidy. The job appears to have been very well done. No complaints whatsoever.
