Long end short of it the service from them is a joke. I ended up installing a new tank my self. I ended up getting the whole tank replaced free by the tank supplier. I am out time, labor and money. About $150.00 Money that I paid UHW for a service call deductable plus money for additional fittings to install the new tank. Use less and worth less policy. Waste of good paper.
Description of Work: When we bought our house we picked up an extended Home Protection policy form Universal Home Protection. Woke up on 4/26/11 found that my hot water tank would not light. The hot water tank is to be covered under the extended policy we bought. And in there add it states in big letters to "Relax. You are Covered!" Uh yea right. I started off this adventure by calling them that am and got voice mail left a message. In that message I left full detailed info about the Hot Water tank Make Production date serial # etc. I got a phone call back that morning around 9:45. Reviewed the situation again was told some one would call me back. 12:00 no call. 2:00 no call. Finally I called back @ 3:45 spoke with there customer service rep. He told me " Oh yea we sent that out this AM." I then said "Did you ever think of calling someone when they didn't call you back in say the first hour?" Response I was told "That is not how we contact people in our system we send them text messages." After that about 15 min later I get a phone call. By now it's 4:00 in the afternoon. Plumber was nice. Said he was on a job in Chicago. I live just south of Milwaukee. And that he could come by st thing in the am @ 8:00. At this point what else could I do but go with it. I would see him in the AM. Next day 8:00 no plumber. No plumber at 10:00 or 11:00. So I call again. Got told oh yea it is in the system plumber should be with you shortly. 11:30 plumber called said he was on his way and showed up like 10 min's later. Looks at water heater. Found defective gas valve. Calls his office shares info with them then says ok we will get back to you and leaves. 1:00,2:00 No calls or nothing then about 2:30 got call back from UHW and was told " From what we can see here the hot water tank is under its own manufacture warranty and I needed to call and find an authorize service dealer.." Now I have spent 2 days no hot water to my house missing out on work and now now "I have to find a dealer and get it resolved??" Why did I buy this USELESS WARRANTY?? and in the paper work it states "Do not Call a contractor yourself!"
