Shackelford HVAC vendor the builder used on my dream home I built in 2021. They were really a letdown & I'm here to remind all people building homes, you have a choice in your HVAC provider & I recommend you choose someone other than Shackelford. I built a large 4K square foot home with a basement (50% above grade) that is absolutely frigid during the winter. It was impossible to get the temperature above 62 degrees & it was in the 50's during the coldest days. I reached out to Shackelford about this &, after being ignored frequently, they finally replied & said I, "should have installed a zone system like we offered." This sounds reasonable EXCEPT that I never spoke with them during the build. I only indicated to my builder that I wanted top of the line equipment, which Shackeford was all to happy to price. So there is an element of dishonesty, and I have full proof of their claim & our email history. As mentioned, picked out all top of the line equipment from the Carrier Infinity Greenspeed & Renewaire lines. I even added a humidifier & an ERV air exchanger. I was willing to spend whatever was required to get good indoor air quality. And Shackelford never thought to tell me during the build that 1/3 of my home, which had a bedroom, living room, 6 above grade windows & a kitchenette COULD NEVER get warmer than 62 during the winter. Nobody told me. When you spend many thousands of dollars upgrading your HVAC to a top of the line system, you have a reasonable expectation you would be told keeping almost 1/2 the house above 62 in the winter would be an issue. Shackelford never gave me this courtesy. I asked Shackelford to help me find a solution, so they said they'd contact the electrician & get back to me. They didn't get to me for almost a month. When I expressed frustration with the timeline since winter was approaching, they threatened to not help me find a solution unless I did everything their way and didn't complain when they missed contact deadlines. That's when I withdrew from dealing with them. I realized then that they absolutely refused to stand by their work (design counts as work) Also frustrating about Shackelford is whomever managed email wouldn't communicate with the person you spoke to on the phone. So then I'd get denials via email about prior conversations. They have no way to track communications or responses but are happy to revert to blaming you if there is any confusion, even though I wasn't the one confused. But It's really frustrating to deal with them when they make things up out of the air (like the zone system). Save all communications with them. I solved Shackelford's problem with a high-powered, in-wall, electric heater from a local firm. It was over $3500 & while it does warm the basement, the quality of the heat is not great. The high demand economy has made Shackelford very arrogant & convinced that they never do anything wrong, so they never try to fix problems & ignore problems they created. Until their are financial consequences where builders stop using them, they will continue to design bad systems & run away from the customers they inflicted them upon. In some areas, the system Shackelford designed wouldn't even be up to code. If you are considering building a house, ask your builder to use a different HVAC vendor than Shackelford. If you are finishing a basement, DO NOT USE THEM. Shackelford is happy to take your money & happy to blow you off + blame you. But they're terrible at fixing problems. I've built 4 houses since 2006. Shackelford is the worst vendor of any sub-contractor any builder used. I referred friends to this builder, who built a Parade home with them based solely on my recommendation. I have to move to the West side so I'm building again. But I won't use Weber again because of Shackelford, & I'll show them the receipts when I'm done. Until financial consequences occur, Shackelford will continue to treat you badly. My advice is don't create a risk where Shackelford can treat you as badly as they did me.

I would definitely NOT recommend Shackelford heating and cooling. We purchased a Parade home built by Bill Weber Jr. The moment we turned the furnace on we heard a loud banging sound in the duct work. They came out to assess and the suggestion was to place a towel in the outside vent to see if that would help. After several calls he stopped by when he was in the area again. At this point, he could clearly hear the loud noise but said there is nothing for him to fix. He stated that the electrical components were placed after the duct work and something must be hitting it when the heat goes through it. There was no money exchange due to it qualifying under a one year warranty. We have now lived in the house for 2 years and it's getting worse. We have to turn the heat off every night unless we want to be kept up with the loud noise.

They are very responsive. I had contact with them last year because I had a problem and I called them up and the thing I like about Mike is, he doesn't race over and charge you a bunch of money. He will sometimes just give you advice over the phone. I have done that a couple of times and he will call me back and he will say blah blah blah and I will say thank you very much and we're fine. I think he is very professional. I think he does a good job and I think he is very honest about things. He seems to very knowledgeable and very honest.

Furnace was not working. Fast response. Just some clogged item preventing condensate from draining. Did a nice job checking everything out. Gave me a fair assessment of the system. Very nice guy. I feel like I got my money's worth.

Everything went flawlessly. They did the work while I was out of the home; by the time I came back, my house was cooled to a nice 73 degrees as I would expect with absolutely no signs of construction or trash. I could not ask for better service!

Everything was great. They even completed our Energy Star rebate paperwork!
Description of Work: Our furnace started acting funny over the weekend (wouldn't kick on; funny smell). We thought we might need a new furnace but were worried it would take forever to replace it. We called Shackelford Heating and Cooling on Sunday afternoon and they made an appointment for Monday morning -- good things, because our CO2 alarms went off in the night, and it was the furnace! They arrived Monday, made a recommendation on a new furnace, and it was installed by 3pm THE VERY SAME DAY! The technicians were very friendly and explained everything to me (after explaining it to my husband). Before leaving they gave me a tutorial on our new, easier-to-use thermostat, too. Great guys! Great service! Great price!

I have recommended them. Their pricing was always fair. The quality was good. They were punctual for the appointment. I've moved so I am not handy to them anymore so I will probably not use them because of geographical issues.

We were told that we had a cracked heat exchanger in our existing Lennox Pulse furnace. We solicited bids from 7 different contractors - all that we found through Angie's List - and Shackelford Heating and Cooling. We invited a bid from Mike at Shackelford because a co-worker had them put in a furnace recently and was very pleased with their work. For our initial meeting, Mike was on time and very nice. We looked at the existing furnace, talked about options and he gave me a quote. I spent the weekend researching the three brands we had narrowed our selection down to: Lennox, Bryant and Carrier. We ultimately chose the Carrier because the Infinity 98 was the MOST energy efficient furnace on the Energy Star high efficiency list, and we were very impressed with Mike and Dan White from Footville Heating. In addition, the prices from both of these contractors were very competitive. I called Mike and asked him to revise his bid if he was able to account for our late decision to include the Infinity Control thermostat and an Aprilaire humidifier/dehumidifier. We really liked him, and wanted to steer our business to him, if his bid would be competitive. His new bid came back as very competitive and he had checked on the change in Focus on Energy rebates after the first of the year. If we waited, we would save an additional $125 from the expanded rebate. Mike was really great to work with and his guys did a great job in installing the furnace, Aprilaire and thermostat. The only thing they left behind was a pair of gloves and a sheet metal screw on the floor (which my son stepped on). They were in and out by 1 pm. I had to call Mike that night because the furnace and thermostat were so smart that they were giving me error messages because our ducts were not as big as had been expected. Mike again was very pleasant and talked me through the programming that needed to be done. He then called back the next day to see if everything was still okay, and invited me to call him at any time if we had a problem. We did not choose the least expensive furnace for our replacement, but we chose one with a great return on investment if we stay in our home for 20 years (our current plan). Mike was knowledgeable and supportive of the research and calculations that we had done. I would strongly recommend Mike and Shackelford Heating to others. We would use them again.
