Description of Work: Ridgetop tore off the old roof and put a new asphalt roof on. The RIDGETOP rep was awesome. The installation crew on the other hand, I would rate very poorly. A -100 if that were possible. Here is why... | |Where to begin. Tear off. | |They made a huge mess. I have a white house and they not only got small holes and cracks in my siding, minor... but still there... but they also got black marks and streaks all over the place. It took HOURS to get them all cleaned off. They did not care and professionals would have said, "hey all, white house, let's get the tear off as far away as possible". But no... tear off with this crew meant that the old shingles where hitting up on the side of my house... all over the place. | |When the Ridgtop rep came back the next morning to see how it all went I showed him how unacceptable this was. He went and bought tar/degreaser cleaner and brushes to help clean all the black scuff marks and apologized up and down. He also helped me clean areas for about 30 min's before I said that I'll just do it. I was angry but appreciative too that he changed into jeans (out of his suit) and got his hands dirty helping me. | |The crew also smashed some of my gutter downspouts. The Ridgetop rep also replaced 2 of them, although I had to install. Not that big a deal since it was the pieces on the ground vs. the down spouts. | |Now we move onto the installation. | |During install, I was there the entire day. I was excited to watch and see how it all works. I was also excited to finally be rid of a leak that I and my carpenter could not find, one which caused damage inside the house. So I was really excited! | |Since only 1 member of their crew spoke English, there was no worries about my talking anyone's head off, so they were all able to work. I was just watching and observing. | |The job must have been a touch bigger than they thought because they were up on that roof well after dark. In fact, it was ME... who brought out the 500W Halogens and extension cords so they could see and finish up. It was also me that pointed out that they were about to miss installing a vent as the shingles went down, so that they could stop and put it in vs. having to go back and do it over again, taking up more time. | |They finally left somewhere after 9pm. It was pitch black out. | |I wish I could speak Spanish because they seemed friendly. They at times tried to talk to me, so it seemed and there was a lot of smiling and laughing and they seemed like a nice group. Unfortunately it was all in Spanish which I don't know. | |Turns out they didn't know my wife could speak Spanish. I'm guessing that because she's Asian, they made certain assumptions. | |She told me that night that they were making fun of me all day long, calling me all kinds of nasty names and putting me down right to my face. Apparently they found it very amusing to call me names and talk about how hot they thought my wife was and different things they'd like to do to her, right to me and I'd be smiling and nodding. | |She said that's the reason she stayed in the house all day instead of being a part of this. She was totally uncomfortable with all the lewd things they were saying about her. | |I was a bit miffed with her that she didn't tell me this until after the fact but she also knew I would have thrown every one of them off the property had I known and then what happens with the roof? It would cause more problems than to just let them do the job and leave as quickly as possible. | |When the Ridgtop rep came by the next morning, prior to his changing and helping me clean all the black marks off the house, I told him all this. | |He seemed genuinely concerned and appalled and promised he would address it. In fact, he seemed genuinely p*****. I do not believe it was because they were busted but because of how appalling it was that one of their crews acted in this way. | |Since he had to go get cleaner, brushes, downspouts and change... he said he was going to go to the site they were at this morning and he would address it immediately. | |He returned with the cleaners, helped clean, etc... but nothing more was discussed about "how" he addressed the crew. | |That's all I know. I have to assume he did what he said. | |So... that is my experience. | |Ridgetop provides 20 year bumper to bumper warranty on the roof. Part of the package. I like that. It's been 2 years now, maybe 3. Ironically enough, it's hard to remember just how long it's been. Still looks new so.. that's good right? lol | |About a week after the install, one section of the roof looked really, really bad. It was SOOOO noticeable. The shingles looked like they were lifting up vs. laying down. It was uneven and looked terrible. I called my rep back and he came out promptly. He explained that the roof was put on in cool weather and once it warms up and the sun really heats it up, everything will lay flat and look wonderful. But since we are late fall, I need to wait til late spring or early summer. | |I assure you... it was a leap of faith, but I agreed to wait and assured him I'd be in touch if what he said does not come to pass. He smiled and reminded me that I have full warranty so I should not worry. | |By the following June the roof looked awesome. He was right. Once the sun really heated it up, everything laid down beautifully. | |The following summer there was some flashing or T Moldings, that were coming off in one spot. I called Ridgetop back and they came the next day. They went up, put in a few nails and fixed. They told me they do not warrant that as this is "siding related" vs. roof. I don't agree since THEY installed this at the time of the roof but ok... I guess. I have a few other spots that need taking up, now today... but I'm on my own for that. | |So, at the end of the day... I wish I could rate Ridgetop separately from the installers here on Angies List. | |I give Ridgetop an A. I probably should not since they are ultimately responsible for their roaming crews... but I do. They have been responsive, polite, professional and they have treated me with respect. | |As for pricing, the rule is... never go with the cheapest because you get what you pay for. Also never go with the most expensive because they are simply ripping you off. Try to stay in the middle. | |Ridgetop was lower middle as I got several quotes. I would go with them again for a roof. | |I also referred them to my Father-in-law who ultimately had them come an fix his porch that had a leak "somewhere he could not find after years of searching" and they fixed it. They also put I a few windows for him. | |I tell ya... it would have been nice though to get some kind of REFERRAL BONUS from Ridgetop for that... but we got nothing. I still think that's a fail to this day. LOL | |I can say that despite the crew that we had and how utterly unprofessional they were... I would go with Ridgetop again. I know they have other crews. Next time, I will simply require a crew made up of a majority of English speaking so that we can communicate. | |I still have a garage that needs to be done. Due to not having much $$ we are putting it off until we just can't any longer. I WILL be bringing Ridgetop back, to at least quote it and I would not hesitate to give them the business, conditionally as mentioned above. | |I hope people find this review useful.
