Firm was responsive and punctual which I greatly appreciated. I called Overhead Garage Door Services after hours on a Thursday evening asking if they work could be my job in late on the next day, Friday, before the weekend. It was the only time I had available to be home. They called back within an hour of start of business on Friday and said they could fit the work in and gave me a particular time. They arrived on time, came with the right parts, and completed the job within a hour. They called back early the next week to say that there had been an addition error on the bill and I was due a partial refund. I appreciated that they caught the error and offered the correction before I noticed it. Service man was polite, professional, and answered all my questions.

A spring on my garage door broke (loudly) on the night of 3/5/13. I called this company and left a message at 7am next day then called back at 8 and talked to a person who scheduled the job for one hour later. The technician arrived promptly at 9am and the job was finished by 9:30am without any fuss. I followed the technician's recommendation to replace the other spring (that had not broken) as it was old and probably would go within a year or two. A very positive experience start to finish. I was delighted that they could come so quickly, so that I arrived at work only an hour late. The price seemed reasonable, and in line with what others are paying for this job.

On a Friday night at 7 pm I discovered my garage door wouldn't open. After examining the door I figured out that the tension spring had broken. I found Madison Overhead on Angie's List and called them at 7:45pm on Friday night. Someone amazingly answered the phone and a repairman was at my house at 9:45am Saturday morning. It only took about 40 minutes for the repairman to fix it. I'm very happy with their quick response, fair price and overall great service.

I've used them prior to this and that's why I went with them again. They were great. The people that I saw in the office were wonderful. They gave me multiple estimates. Both guys that came out to do work were very nice young men. The second guy had to do all of this work in the freezing cold and snow. They were just great people to work with.
Description of Work: They came to install a 16 x 7 insulated garage door. They put in all new tracks and any accessories needed for the new door including the trim work. I had a little trouble with the trim they had just installed and they came back twice at no charge, and discovered that they would have to replace everything again. They just pushed the new trim closer and I was very gracious.

I had a garage door spring break on my overhead door at 8:00 p.m. on a Monday night. I expected to leave a message for someone. I was pleasantly surprised that a friendly and knowledgable woman answered my call. She booked a service call for me right there, for first thing in the morning, as I explained I had a meeting by 10 the next morning I had to attend. The service technician that came to our home was professional and just as friendly as the woman I'd spoken with. Overall, it was a quick an painless process. I have since referred two other people from my office to this company and they've had a great experience as well.

Our garage door opener had broken just before Christmas. I called Madison Overhead and got an appointment for a replacement the morning after Christmas day. The service was excellent and the technician did a good job explaining what needed to be done. He also did some adjustments on the door tracking to reduce some of the the binding that was straining the garage door opener.

They got there right on time and diagnosed the problem just by hearing what happened and they knew exactly where to look for the problem. Within a second he knew it was the springs. He got to work right away and had the parts with him right there so we didn't have to wait for them to make another trip out to replace the springs. He got our garage door working again like new within about a half hour it seemed...it was really quick anyway. We are very pleased!

Madison Overhead Garage Door Services showed up quickly after I called, was very courteous, diagnosed the problem quickly, and within a very short amount of time the work was done. The work was explained to me, they answered my questions, and the price was reasonable. Also, it was convenient to pay because he used a handheld credit card machine. Madison Overhead Garage Door Services was very cheerful, very helpful, sincere like you can trust them, they did exactly what they were supposed to do, were hard working, were straightforward, responsible, and are just basic good people.

I was pleased with the punctuality and professionalism. I would not hesitate to call this company again. I like the fact that they are locally owned business in Dane County. I appreciated the extra step of providing me with steps that I can take of maintaining my garage door in good operations
Description of Work: I had an issue with garage door light burning out all the time. Also, door seemed to jump quite a bit when opening/closing. The service rep. checked track of door and found nothing wrong. He lubricated all hinges, track, springs and rollers. He pointed a future issue involving a cable attachment (salt corosion). Checked the light bulb socket. I learned to use a garage door opener buld not just a standard light bulb. Otherwise light bulb socket was reported as having no issue. He wrote on receipt that if the new bulb burned out within the 30 days of visit he would come back with no addtional service charge. He recommended a lubricant spray for garage door that I can buy at the home repair stores and apply myself. To date all is good.

They actually came on time. The dispatcher set it up so they would come the day after I called. She let me know that if it was an emergency, they could come that day. They were there maybe two hours. I wasn't home at the time but my wife was. He gave me a call and let me know what needed to be done and what the cost was. It was a quick job and I was happy with the service.

They were very professional. They were right on time (early in fact), and did a great job staying in communication, and did a very good job explaining what they saw and why they made the recommendation they did.
Description of Work: We only asked that they come out to repair the door. Once they had a chance to look at it, the recommended replacement rather than repair. This was good advice and they offered a fair price. We did not go forward with the new door because we cannot afford it at this time, not because we thought they would not do a good job. We found someone willing to do a temporary fix for the meantime.

I used Angie's list to select three places to get estimates. This was the only one that really seemed to want my business. Mike came for the estimate. He was punctual and professional. He explained the options and did not push too hard for the expensive options. There was a scheduling mix-up that was related to the new Wisconsin lead-paint rules - we were their first customer that fell under the rule and they had to get appropriately trained before they did the work. The abatement added a couple of hours to the work, but since they were still learning about the process, they didn't charge us for it. The new door works perfectly and we are very happy.

Justin was wonderful. He knew what was wrong before even taking anything apart. The previously replaced sprocket hadn't been greased. He gave it to me and there wasn't a bit of grease anywhere. The teeth were sheared off. He didn't try to sell me anything more, just advised that the rollers may need to be replaced in 4 or 5 years. He greased the parts of the door that were squeaky and then swept out my garage! Very awesome! Needless to say, I will never do business with the previous company.

My garage door opener failed a coupe of months ago, and after some consideration I decided to replace the opener (it was 15+ years old) as well as the 50 year old, wooden garage door (original on the house). I did some research online and found the style of door I wanted. I found several companies on Angie's list that I decided to call for quotes. Concurrently, I was talking to a few folks (friends and coworkers) and explained what I was doing - three different people in three separate conversations recommended Madison Overhead Garage Door. I called them one day and set up an appointment for later in the week. The gentleman arrived during the scheduled time and I showed him the door and explained what I wanted. He took his measurements and we discussed a few prices. He started in the middle of the price/quality tier of the doors that matched my desires and explained the differences between the other doors and the one quoted. At no time did he try to up sell me or pressure me. I called their office the next morning and booked an appointment for the following week (the door I bought is one they stock). The installer was timely and worked for a solid two hours removing the old door and installing the new door. He was friendly and polite and cleaned up very well after himself. Overall a very satisfying experience. This appears to be a very well run, customer focused company and would not hesitate to do business with them again.

Madison Overhead Garage Door Services replaced the two door sensors on our 14 year old Chamberlain garage door in December, 2008. We had been having issues with the door going part way up, stopping and going back down again. After replacing the sensors, putting in an outside keypad, and adding weather stripping on the bottom of the door, the door stopped working altogether a few days after their visit. The cost for this was about $150 for parts and labor. We called them back to the house in early January to correct the problem and were told that the logic board must be bad, and we would have to replace the entire door. The door could not be replaced at that time due to a non-running vehicle in our garage, but we were told to contact them when they could have access to putting in a new door. In fairness to the company, we had this car stored in our garage until July 2009, at which point we recontacted the company to have the work done. The company has a "do-it-right-the-first-time" policy and we requested that the initial cost of the work done on the door (minus the stripping at the bottom of the door) be deducted from the cost of installing a new door purchased through them. Madison Overhead at first was reluctant to give us anything back on the intial parts/labor but eventually did meet us part way and deducted about $30 for the two sensors. We ended up paying about $120 for the initial service call, stripping, and keypad (which was useless with the new door) and $350 for the new door and a second extra car remote. The installer was courteous and professional. The door they sold us is a belt-driven Chamberlain Liftmaster to replace our old chain-driven door. It works fine and is much quieter than our last door due to it being belt-driven.
Description of Work: Madison Overhead Garage Door Services replaced the two door sensors and stripping on the bottom of the garage door on our 14 year old Chamberlain garage door in December, 2008 due to problems we were having with our door not opening and closing. They also added an outside keypad at that time. They were called back in early January, 2009 due to the door still failing to work properly. A new Liftmaster garage door was added in July, 2009.

Response from Madison Overhead Garage Door Services
On 12/04/08 (the date of our first service call) – the operator presented with symptoms consistent with safety eye sensor problems – which were subsequently replaced. The customer also wanted an exterior keyless entry installed. On that date the customer was charged for the parts used, and the initial service call. He was given the option of replacing some bottom weather seal on his door at that time, or we would come back within 30 days at no additional service call. When the customer asked us back to his home on 12/11/08 for installing that weather seal, he indicated to his service technician that the operator still was not working as well as he would like. The technician said we could replace a logic board to see if that would work – or we could replace the operator unit. The customer was informed that if the operator unit was replaced, we would be able to return the keyless entry and the safety sensors. However, there was a dismantled automobile in the way. Our technician said we would be happy to do the work if we could get to the operator unit. On that date, the bottom weather seal was installed. We never heard from the customer again until August of 2009. This was when the customer indicated the dismantled car was no longer in the way. Due to the length of time from the initial service call, and this return call, before any pricing information/returns/refunds were agreed to – we thought it was best to pull the original service records. We agreed to refund the safety eye sensors. It was determined that the service call was not eligible for refund, as we did install the weather seal per the customer’s request. It was like having two service calls for the price of one. The customer paid for a service call and the bottom weather seal. The safety eye sensors were returned as a credit towards the new operator unit installed. If the customer had called us and said he would not be able to fix/replace his opener for many months, we would have been happy to go to his home and remove any parts not needed/used –and we would have refunded him the cost of the returned parts with no question. However, because of the length of time between the initial service, and the call for the return service – we were unable to do so. After eight months, any parts that had been in possession of one customer, is obviously not eligible for resale – only disposal. This was all explained to the customer in detail, before we performed any further service work. We appreciate feedback and information regarding the service of our company. Our company is willing to make additional trips to accommodate a customer, and we are willing to refund for parts and/or service as needed. It was simply determined that 8 months was too lengthy a time to do a 100% refund. However, we did want to make sure our customer was happy with the work performed, and that is why we did a credit of some of the 8 month old service.

Response from Madison Overhead Garage Door Services
When this customer called and requested service, he was informed that all service call appointments that were available during normal business hours for that day were taken. Normal business hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday. He was given the option of either what we refer to as "emergency after hours service" or "regular service" the next business day. The difference was made clear to this customer. The customer opted for the "emergency after hours service" knowing the service call would be additional. Unfortunately, when service work is needed after normal business hours, there are additional costs involved as a business. One example is overtime for the service technician, etc. That is one reason for a higher cost after hours. It is in no way an attempt to take advantage of anyone -- however, the cost of employee labor is more after a normal business day. It is not only right and just to pay an employee overtime wages, it is also Federal Law. We are happy to service our customer's garage doors, either during normal business hours or after -- the differences in the pricing is made clear to any customer. We are willing to dispatch a service technician on request at any time there is a need; however, there is a difference in cost between a service call at 7 or 8 in the evening and on Sunday's vs. 3 p.m. on a Monday. (for an example) Our company always offers the option of waiting until the next available appointment at regular service costs vs. the emergency service cost. This pricing structure is not that unusual, a plumber will charge an additional emergency service charge for after hours service. Electricians, carpet cleaners, and most other service based businesses offer emergency service – however there is an additional cost as well.
