An appointment with Madison Code Review was scheduled by our real estate agent. The owner, Steve, showed up on the scheduled date and time. He was very friendly and indicated he had been in the business for decades. He went through the house (multiple stories) and pointed out a few concerns. For instance, there was a known leak in the roof above the garage and a broken handle on one of the windows. He took pictures of main things such as the furnace and problems such as the roof and window handle. We felt that he was pointing out things which we needed to know. Unfortunately, it wasn't until after we moved in that we realized there were several other issues or things he should have noticed and pointed out to us so we were at least aware. For instance, there is a hole in the vent leading from the water heater. Not a major issue but suggested by a contractor that we should tape up. When we went to set up our dryer in the same location that the previous owner had theirs, we found out that the electrical outlet was not the proper one for a dryer. In conferring with an electrician, we learned that the electric circuit is not one that should have been used but we were able to purchase a new cord for our dryer to get it to work. The electrician was surprised that our inspector didn't pick up on this. We also identified a short circuit issue when utilizing a few different outlets at once. Something else that was missed. Additionally, we knew the appliances in the kitchen were older and would eventually need to be replaced. But the inspector failed to notice that they weren't just old, they were not all functioning very well. We ended up replacing the fridge and dishwasher a few months after being in the house and the stove top is next as the burners don't all light very easily. The oven also doesn't seem to be the temp it is supposed to be. This type of information would have been useful when negotiating price of the house.

We had previously used Steve's services for a home inspection when purchasing our house and had been very impressed with the time he took to do the inspection, as well as the very complete list of needed repairs that he provided. We contacted him for his professional opinion on our window replacement project and were once again impressed with his work. He did a very thorough inspection with us present, carefully explaining his findings as he went along and taking numerous pictures of areas of concern. He subsequently provided us with a detailed written report.
Description of Work: We had new windows installed and were dissatisfied with the quality of the work. Steve inspected the window installation and trim work and provided a thorough analysis of the work that had been done. He then contacted two contractors and obtained recommendations and estimates on necessary repairs, consulted with us on those findings, and sent us a detailed written report.
